Rate this book
Victoria's journey continues in the heart-pounding second book of the Royal Replicas series.

Victoria has escaped the palace, but not with any of the people she intended on saving. Now it’s up to her to retrieve the coveted information the Queen so desperately desires. Victoria’s life is safer if she never returns. However, her remaining sisters are counting on her to come back for them.

After watching Victoria leave, Prince Byron feels terrible about his inaction at the Choosing Ceremony and vows to win back her favor. Victoria doesn’t know if she can trust him anymore and she’s ready to move past that small, but sweet part of her life and remain steadfast on her new mission.

To free her sisters from the Queen’s grasp, Victoria will need to enlist the aid of unlikely allies, some of whom may have far from altruistic intentions. And once again, Princess Amelia may be the key.

Victoria is determined to return for her sisters. She’s determined to free Princess Amelia, who remains locked away within the lower maze of the palace. But the costs of such actions may be much higher than Victoria expects… and may end up costing her everything

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book, thank you Michael Pierce.

There were a lot of things I loved in this book, enough for me to give it a 5/5 on Goodreads.

I loved how simple and easy is was to read, as well as fast, but that also came to be because I literally could not put it down! I loved the introduction (as well as an epilogue) and how it was from the point of view of Queen Dorothea. It does make her more human, and in a way it helps the reader understand how she thinks as well as how she feels. Then when we get to chapter one, I thoroughly enjoyed how this book was laid out - bouncing back between the point of view of Victoria and Prince Bryon. This honestly gave me hope that these two would reunite again and it would be a happy reunion #TeamBryon. I am a sucker for books with different point of views.

Getting into the book, I loved how it jumped straight into the story, like it was another chapter following the last chapter in the previous book - there was drama in the first chapter and it ultimately made me want to keep reading. It is said that the first chapter can make or break a book, and it made me want to continue reading. I understand that it is important to do a little backtracking in a sequel. Not everyone will remember exactly what happened in the previous book, but some authors will take the first few chapters to do this, and it won't be til chapter...five, let's say, for anything to happen. I enjoyed how this book had drama in the first chapter, while Victoria was explaining everything that had happened recently and how she was feeling. Honestly, I wish there was a little more review [I had to go back and reread the last few chapters of book one, for me personally to get an idea of where we left off], but overall, the book was very smooth and easy to read.

I feel like after reading this book, it was more about Prince Bryon. I remember how I thought that in book 1, Victoria was kind of just going with the flow of everything, and it is the same with this book. I felt like she has a plan, but everyone else around her is executing it. On the other hand, I feel like this book was about Bryon and him realizing what he wants and what he is willing to do to get it. We got to know more about Bryon in this book, which I completely loved.

I also liked how this book was very straight to the point in terms of there was no unnecessary fluff. Maybe this is just me and my college English teachers rubbing off on me, but I enjoy a story that is easy to read as well as gets to the point. Would I have loved to have a chapter in-between here and there almost as a breather for me as a reader as well as for Victoria and Prince Bryon to collect their thoughts and emotions? Yes. That would be nice. Maybe that is what's missing. This book was centered more towards Bryon, in my opinion, and his some of his internal struggles, so I felt like I started to get to know who he was, but I can't say the same for Kale or Victoria. I mean, yes, Victoria a little in the first book, but I feel like as the books go on, we are only scratching the surface of one character.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I wanted to know what was going to happen next and if Victoria and Bryon would meet again after their last encounter and how it would be like. Also, with what happened at the end of this book....that cliffhanger, I honestly cannot wait to see what is going to happen next! Are there going to be new alliances that will be formed?? Will Victoria ever chose which guy she wants to be with?? I cannot wait for book 3 to find out!

Thank you again for the advanced copy!

With the perspective of the queen added, she seems more humane.
It must be incredibly hard to have your kid withering away because of an incurable disease.
But all the decisions she’s made have affected so many people, and not in a good way.

This is full of twists, secret passageways and conspiracies. But also love and forgiveness. Defending the weaker is also a good theme.
I’m looking forward to the next book!

I received a free copy and this is my honest review

oh man....this book is DEFINITELY 1.5 stars. let me just list the pros and cons because i don’t have the energy to do anything else.

CONS:

- this book is slow. not a slow burn, just extremely slow. i hadn’t even been half way through yet and i already wanted to drop it.

- the whole book had one major storyline that didn’t change until the last like five chapters meaning there were barely any plot twists. it upset me greatly to no end. give me a bumpy ride please!

- VICTORIA IS A PLAYER!!! DO I EVEN NEED TO ELABORATE????

- i needed background information. the author should’ve included details about how the world got to how it is and what went wrong and all that jazz. i care about that kind of stuff so give it to me!!!!

- every last man in this book is horrible. EVERY. LAST. ONE.
i read fictional novels to escape reality, so give me at least one worthy male character. i’m begging.

- the characters who are actually good didn’t get enough dialogue in this book. for sure. like victoria is a mess. prince byron is a mess. i don’t care about them!! give the good side characters some extra, well-deserved scenes!!!

PROS:

- there aren’t any.

this time, i swear i’m not clowning myself into reading the next book. it’s too much trouble on me.

Review: I really love this series and I think this is a great series for people who are looking for more adult content in their ya fantasies ala The Selection. The book has well developed characters and the settings are well described as well.

However, I didn’t like this one as much as I did the first one. I think there were too many characters and too many subplots going on. There were backstabbing backstabbers who were double and triple playing both sides and this just made for mass confusion. The action scenes were chaotic at best as well. Also, whenever a player was playing a part, it made it hard to realize that if they were acting or if that’s how they really felt. It was a weird one for sure.

Verdict: Not my fave novel, but still interested in continuing it!

What can I say - ever since I read Royal Replicas and the ending of that book left me with a hunger I knew I just HAD to read Royal Captives. Royal Captives is part two of the series and it's just as captivating! This time however, the POV is from both Victoria (the princess) and Prince Byron. I think it's nice when an author can write different point of views and have the stories mesh together. In the case of Royal Captives, seeing how Prince Byron felt really helped me understand his motives and his decision in the first book. Prince Byron is regal, brave, and of course dashingly handsome that he almost makes the "perfect" prince. When I say almost it's because he has flaws that make him so likeable and so perfect for Victoria. I'm sure others might feel different, but with the blending of Kale, who is an old friend of Victoria, there is a constant element of heartache and indecision for Victoria. I personally hope Victoria will choose Prince Byron but I guess it's up to the author! :)
If you enjoy reading dystopian royalty with danger, mystery, and romance all mixed into a novel, then you'll enjoy Royal Captives. Be sure to pick up Royal Replicas first although the recap in Royal Captives makes it easier to read for those who didn't read the first book.
Micheal's writing is very detailed and gripping and Royal Captives was a lot of fun for me to read. And once again, he left me with an ending that makes me want him to hurry up and finish the next installment already!
Thank you for the ARC of Royal Captives!

Wow. Another great episode for this series.

Our heroine, Victoria Sandalwood, has escaped the palace but now is determined to return so she can free Princess Amelia and also free her sisters from the Queen’s grasp.

Prince Byron is back, determined to win back Victoria’s favor.

Kale is still in the picture and hoping Victoria wants him.

And don’t forget Queen Dorothea, whose motivations are finally (somewhat) explained.

With a cast like that you know it’s going to be great, and the book certainly does not disappoint. Full of twists and turns, action, adventure, romance and suspense leading to a shocker of a surprise at the end and .. a cliffhanger. That cliffhanger is actually my sole complaint about Royal Replicas 2, and the only reason why I rate this 4 rather than 5 stars.

This is actually a pretty easy review to “bottom line”. Here it is easy to do: if you enjoyed Royal Replicas then you’re bound to enjoy Royal Replicas 2: Royal Captives. That’s fairly simple. If you’ve not tried book 1 yet then by all means do it now as you won’t regret it. In the meantime, as for this book: highly recommended.

This book picked up right where the first book left off...and was so much better. The story was easy to read, flowed nicely, and was written well. I enjoyed the introduction where we got to see a glimpse of Queen Dorothea's mind. I also enjoyed the multiple POV's between Prince Byron and Victoria. I got to know the main characters so much better in this book than the first book.

Prince Byron plays a bigger part in this book instead of letting everyone else save the day. He focuses on what he wants and needs to do and takes more action to execute these plans. I enjoyed his character much better this time around and I can't wait to see how he evolves in the next 2 books. There are many new characters in this book, but they play an important part as a supporting character.

This book was full of action...twists and turns and drama...but it was so good. The ending was such a brilliant cliffhanger. I did not see that coming at all. This was the best part of the book and I can not wait to get started on the third book.

First off let me say I loved the prologue and epilogue! It gave the story a touch it needed. I was thinking about the prologue the whole book! They are in the point of view of Queen Dorothea and gives you a better understanding on what is really going on with her. The rest of the story is in Victoria and Byron’s point of view which I also liked. I am totally Team Byron so I loved his POV and gave me high hopes for Victoria and Byron’s reunion!

A little under 250 pages, but packed with so much. I was surprised more than once, by twists I didn’t see coming! There’s also some action and plenty suspense. Just when I thought the story couldn’t get any better, the ending left me with a face kinda looking like this O.O and needing to know what happens next. I cannot wait for the third book! It should be here early 2018 and I am so excited!

OMG, this book was just as hard to put down as the first one in the series. It explained more about the Queen and Prince Byron. The mysteries, twist and turns, and everything else that keeps you wanting to read is in this book. The end of the story is really a shock. I can't wait for the next book to see how all the twist and turns end or keeps going. I received a arc copy for my honest review.

The action and suspense is never ending in this second book in this series. At one point I thought Victoria and Prince Byron we’re home free, until another twist in the story left me saying “Nooooo...No...No...No!” Then another breather and another twist! And another Aaaagggg! And then a surprise you could never anticipate! Then finally a cliffhanger! Nooooo!...aaaagggg! And we have to wait...how long for the next one? Yeah, that’s what I thought! (I’m pulling my hair out now!)

This is the second book in the Royal Replicas series. Wow this series just keeps getting better. In this book, Victoria has finally escaped the palace. A roller coaster of emotions. So many twists and surprises that my head is spinning. I liked the POV of Queen Dorothea as I was better able to understand her thoughts. Quite a story. I received an advance copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.

Many other reviewers felt compassion for the Queen - the one that I feel the most sorry for is Victoria - I will say that the author did so many switch backs - that at the end of the day you will be surprised at the outcome.

Sexual violence in this book is hinted at - clones, fighting parents, double crosses and triple crosses.

Also leaves much thought about cloning - i.e. is your "original" child your only child? Do you owe any obligations to the clones?

Knowledge is power and everyone around Victoria seems to have too many cards. Yet the end of the book holds a big surprise on who really has power. I just loved how the book goes from one dire situation to new revelation and back to the start. Characters gain deep contrast and their relationships evolve and flip around with every page turn.

I jumped right into this one from reading Royal Replicas! I couldn't wait to continue the story and find out what happened next. I was not disappointed This story has quickly become one of my favorites. This author is a new to me author and I am officially a fan. The writing is superb and flows wonderfully. There is no lacking description. My imagination gets sucked right in and keeps me there anxiously turning the pages to see what becomes of our Heroes and Heroine.

Captivating

Excellent and well written. Captivating storyline with the continuing saga of a whited sepulcher of a queen. Horrifying how some people end up from the choice they make along their life. Great twist at the end. Eagerly awaiting the next in the series, but at some point Ramsey and Mackenzie have got to have their comeuppance.

Didn’t really like the last book but kept reading/ skimming to see how the crisis was resolved. The novel only got worse. I really can’t even put into words how ridiculous it got. No. Just no. So many plot holes and world-building holes and stupid characters, and I just cannot suspend disbelief long enough to find out how things work out. I honestly couldn’t care less about it anymore. Bu-bye.

Victoria’s constant indecision over Byron or Kale is a little taxing. However, the story holds so many twists it’s worth the read. Fans of Frank Herbert’s Dune will also be happy to find sand worms make an appearance in this book. Overall this book keeps the reader reaching for Royal Threat (Book 3).

The first book was interesting but this one meanders around and doesn't quite make you want to continue. I won't be reading the third. Premise was interesting but not enough to keep you invested in sequels.
