When you find yourself tackled by fate, do you give chase, or run and hide?
After a terrible fire leaves her friends dead, Desiree finds herself back in the house she grew up in, avoiding life. With no memory of what happened, her gut tells her the event has something to with the supernatural strength, speed, and endurance she now has. Rather than face her guilt-ridden grief, she hides in her ignorance.
When something that shouldn’t be real tackles her to the dirt, she can no longer avoid her past. Following the creature through the night, she’s drawn into a world she never imagined possible. Forced to trust the arrogant stranger who conveniently shows up to save her leaves Desiree wondering where to turn. What will the price be for his answers? Moreover, can they even be believed?
As the truth of her world becomes harder to understand, she's forced to use the very beings that are after her to supply her with explanations that might plug the holes in her memories, and maybe even allow her closure to move forward with her life. Only, will she be allowed to chose this forward path? Or be forced to move as dictated by the overseers of a long lost culture?
Created in a vat far from this world, C.M. Martens was sent to watch over this plane, to observe and witness the human condition. Discontent with simple observation, she's chosen to morph this reality into her own image through the written word. Supplied with coffee, sweets, and an endless supply of Trance and Chill electronic music (mixed with some video game soundtracks) C.M. Martens hopes to lead you on an adventure through the pages of her novels.

What a fantastic debut release from this author! I loved the dialogue between characters and how real they felt. Despite Hamal being strong and capable, he knows his limits, which is surprisingly endearing. And as for Dee, she kinda has the opposite problem - she has no idea what her limits are, which makes for an intriguing journey.
We're gradually drawn into this paranormal world, with little clues dropped in to tease and keep us wondering what's going on, pulling us along until the big picture finally opens up.
But this is just the beginning for these guys, there's so much more to come, and I'm excited to see where it goes next.
What a wonderful gem among new authors! We get to know the main character as she gets to know herself among a whirlwind of events and surprises. The descriptions of people, places, and things were fantastic; I could easily picture things in my mind without the descriptions dragging down the flow of the story. When I finished, it was hard to believe that this is Martens' first book- can't wait for the second! Also, as a fantasy lover, I do sometimes feel over saturated with the standard witch, wizard, vampire, etc elements. This book was like a breath of fresh air with new creatures that reveal more about themselves as time goes on.
This this book drew me in, and I was pleasantly surprised by the smooth transitions. The plot was well developed , the characters intriguing and a great use of language and the setting. I love the timelessness that comes through. Creatures from another time but current. I look forward to the continuation of this story in her next book.
This book was outstanding and kept my attention. The writer was very descriptive so you were able to set the scenes in your head. I just could not put this book down. At the end of each chapter I couldn't wait to see what was happening next. This author is very talented and I can't wait to see what is going to happen in her next book in this series.

Not your average paranormal story. Full of mystery and suspense that keeps you turning the page to see who or what creature might come next, I can't wait to read the second edition.
If the editing was done better I would have given 5 stars. Fun story. Enjoyed characters and plot. Hoping there will be more after 3rd cause story is not finished.
