I bought a box of old horror novels from the 70s and 80s a few months ago and this was included. Definitely a YA book that picked up the spiritualism craze following the exorcist. Our protagonist is a 16 year old female, who, for an english assignment, attends a new church and ends up meeting a journalist doing a story on it for Time. Bad Things start to happen! I am being generous with 3 stars.

The real villain all along: alcoholism

This was a dark little book and it fit in well with a theme of spooky books that aren’t really in the horror genre. With a different cover it could have been billed more as a coming of age drama. It would fit in nicely on the shelf with books by Joan Lowery Nixon.
