I cannot find enough superlatives to praise this book. So I’ll only say that this book is THE BEST POPULAR MEDICAL SCIENCE BOOK I have ever read, and I have read many.

If—heaven forbid!—you or any of your loved ones should have cancer, drop everything you are doing right now, go buy this book and start reading it immediately.

If—as I hope—neither you nor any of your loved ones or other people you care about have cancer, don’t wait until you or any of yours come down with this terrible disease. Buy this book and study it, so that you are knowledgeable and well prepared for any situation involving cancer you may ever find yourself in.

Upfront: Should you—like many people—think that alternative treatments are bogus, “snake oil”, or at least, unproven, unscientific methods thought up by unscientific people and offered by “quacks”, you may be right in some cases, as there is no profession that does not also have its bad apples, but ten of the twelve non-toxic treatments discussed in the above book are highly scientific methods developed by renowned scientists (doctors, microbiologists, biochemists, bacteriologists, biophysicists), one of which a Nobel Prize winner, another nominated for a Nobel Prize numerous times.—Only two of the alternative treatments discussed in this book, namely the Hoxsey therapy and Essiac tea, are made of herbs only, and their effectiveness is without strict scientific proof. Yet there is ample of anecdotal evidence that they do work in an astonishing number of cases. I myself can testify that Essiac tea has performed miracle cures. (In 2013, we had two stage IV cancer-stricken cats jump death from the shovel—one within days, the other even within hours, after we had started administering them the tea. One of these cats died in 2016, not of his metastasized throat tumor, which had disappeared, but of old age. The other cat, suffering from a brain tumor that had metastasized to the bones, is still alive and well, and jumps better than any of our other [presently 20] rescue cats.)

So why won’t your doctor tell you about these non-toxic alternative treatments (most of which are affordable, and Essiac tea is even dirt cheap)?

The answer is quite simple: Follow the money trail.

The pharma industry invests many millions of dollars into the development of each new chemotherapy drug, and it makes many billions of dollars selling these drugs. The pharma industry donates to universities, medical schools, hospitals, medical associations, medical societies, government health institutions, and whatever other organizations and institutions have anything to do with medical treatments. Not only does the pharma industry donate to associations, societies, institutions, and organizations, it also grooms influential individuals of these establishments, and of course, it also grooms politicians; that is, it donates to their election campaigns or finds more direct ways to please them. And because the pharma industry is so very nice to so many people, these many people are also very nice to the pharma industry.

It so happens that the pharma industry has a big problem. It cannot patent any unaltered natural substances. These not only include herbs, veggies, fruit, mushrooms, and nuts; these also include enzymes and hormons as they naturally occur in human bodies. And without a patent, there is no way to make big money. So all these many people who are treated so nicely by the pharma industry go out of their way to treat the pharma industry nicely; that is, they suppress any non-patentable treatment that could compete with what the pharma industry is selling.

This gratitude to the pharma industry already starts with what is taught in medical schools. Your family doctor (or oncologist) has probably never heard of alternative non-toxic treatment methods that work. And if any of them were mentioned in medical school, I am rather sure they were classified as bogus, “snake oil”, and quackery.

Nobody says that alternative non-toxic treatment methods are successful in each and every case, yet it seems that they are much more successful (and definitely, less painful and less damaging to the body) than mainstream methods, that is, radiation and chemotherapy. These alternative methods even make surgery obsolete in some cases, as tumors, quite often, shrink to a size where they don’t obstruct vital organs or even disappear completely.

So what has radiation to do with the pharma industry? I am not sure who supplies the radioactive substances. But I know that modern equipment to apply this radiation is highly sophisticated and a big investment for any hospital. When a hospital has made such a big investment, it wants to see a profitable financial return. So it wants this equipment being used.

To sum it all up: The pharma industry, the hospitals, and all the aforementioned “very nice people” work together. They form the Cancer Industry, aka the Medical Mafia (or more precisely, parts of it).

Am I too harsh using such words? I don’t think so.

When you read the above book, you’ll find that the ways to suppress alternative non-toxic treatments that work are, in many cases, just simply criminal. Not only are doctors who apply them ridiculed, harassed, and quite often, driven into bankruptcy with trivial law suits that drain their assets, they are even prosecuted and arrested in most American states (and also in many other countries). Still, for the the doctors it is rarely a matter of life or death. It is, however, for the cancer patients.

Yes, it is, indeed a mafia-like conspiracy and a crime when deadly-sick cancer patients are denied affordable non-toxic treatments that are proven to be more successful than what mainstream medicine has to offer. And if this even happens to stage IV cancer patients, for whom mainstream medicine no longer has anything to offer, this crime is beyond words!

So why do most doctors play along with these practices?

They play along for the following two reasons:

(1) They were brainwashed in medical school to consider alternative treatments as harmful quackery.

(2) Many doctors (and particularly oncologists) are paid by the pharma industry to participate in clinical studies. Doctors participating in these studies have to sign that their patients are not using any other treatments on the side. So the doctors scare their patients and tell them that using other treatments along mainstream treatment will adversely affect the result. And it DOES. But it works the other way round. It is the efficiacy of the alternative treatment that is usually reduced by the toxic mainstream treatment, as killing cells (cancer and other) by poisoning them (chemotherapy) or burning them (radiation) is counteractive to strengthening the immune system, on which most non-toxic methods are based. (Nevertheless, it seems advisable to use non-toxic treatments along with mainstream treatments when mainstream treatments are chosen for whatever reason.)

The Cancer Industry works hard, all over the globe, to keep cancer patients from using non-toxic alternative treatments, and it is very successful at it.—Several years ago, in Germany, the husband of a dear friend of ours was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Our friend, who had heard about the miraculous recovery of our two stage IV cancer cats with Essiac tea, asked us where she could obtain the tea, and we had a pound shipped to her. Unfortunately, her husband’s oncologist pressured her husband not to use the tea, threatening him that mainstream treatment would not work properly if he took the Essiac tea along with it. Well, mainstream treatment did not work properly alone either. Our friend’s husband died 5 months later. Would he have survived had he taken the tea? I do not know. Yet one thing is for sure: His oncologist denied him the chance for no good reason.

You might say, you have heard that the War Against Cancer is about to be won, as the statistics sound very promising.

Well, let me tell you: Churchill once said: “I don’t trust any statistic I haven’t falsified myself.”—Besides: What does 5-year-survival mean? Does this mean that when you have survived cancer for 5 years, you can consider yourself cured? (That’s how I had always understood it.) Don’t let anyone fool you. It means nothing but that mainstream treatment has been able to keep your cancer in check for 5 years. By this time, they might have used so much chemotherapy on you that another treatment (with assumedly an even more toxic chemotherapy drug) is likely to kill you before the cancer would. Furthermore: There are so many ways one can play with definitions and numbers. Even educated people can easily get fooled this way.

Fortunately, this doesn’t always happen. In May of 2011, my husband received a—thank God! false—prostate cancer diagnosis by our (then) urologist. Right after this shocking diagnosis, the urologist tried to pressure my husband to schedule a biopsy. (Prostate biopsies are not very safe procedures.) We refused and said we wanted to do some research first.

After researching various (mainstream and alternative) options, we decided on traveling to a huge hospital in another state, where my husband would have an MRI spectroscopy done. Yet the radiology department of this hospital was rather booked up, and the earliest appointment my husband could get was for early August. So we made the appointment and kept researching cancer treatments. My husband searched the internet, while I read books.

I think it was shortly before our trip to this hospital, when I came across a book about Essiac tea. So we bought the tea but didn’t prepare it until after my husband had this MRI spectroscopy. (We drink it off and on, to this day, for our chronic bladder problems and also “for just in case”).

The radiologist who performed the MRI spectroscopy refused to give us the result, but I went from Pontius to Pilate to get it and finally succeeded having the radiologist ordered to give us the result verbally. It turned out that what the urologist had felt when examining my husband was definitely NOT the (relatively rare) very aggressive prostate cancer and HIGHLY UNLIKELY any cancer at all, but scar tissue from a previous, unnoticed prostate infection or inflammation.—Back home in Utah, the urologist tried to interpret the written result he had received in a somewhat different, more scary way. He now tried to talk my husband into surgery, PROMISING him another 5 years to live if he had the surgery done.

It just so happens that the life expectancy of untreated prostate cancer of the slow-growing type is 8-15 years. (Most prostate cancers are of the slow-growing type. Only about 7% are of the aggressive type that kill a man fast. Yet this aggressive type had been absolutely ruled out by the MRI spectroscopy.) Come to your own conclusions about the ethics of this urologist.

Then, in August of 2013, when our favorite cat lay dying from brain cancer that had metastasized to the bones, and another one of our cats already had an appointment for being euthanized because a tumor in his throat, assumed to be cancer and have metastasized to his head, was expected to suffocate him within days, my husband thought of Essiac tea. And as I mentioned above, the latter cat recovered within hours, while the former cat recovered within days. Our veterinarian declared the recoveries of these cats a miracle. (We later learned that his wife is a long-time cancer survivor. We also learned that she had received mainstream treatment AND had also taken Essiac tea.)

Ever since these two miracle cures, we have been administering Essiac tea to any of our cats who are suspected to have cancer, even when there isn’t a firm diagnosis. “If it won’t help, it won’t harm!” And I am rather sure that we have prolonged the lives of several of our other cats with this tea. Mind you, most of our cats are, meanwhile, very old, and no one lives forever.

So you are not interested in cancer or cancer cures for whatever reason?

I still urge you to read this book.

It not only contains potentially life-saving info about cancer treatments, it also explains better than other books I have read how the human body and its immune system works, what happens when things go awry, and in how many different ways things can go awry.

Further, this book is an eye-opener about how money greed of corporations and individuals sacrifices your health and wellbeing, not only with toxic cancer treatments but also by poisoning our environment. This you may have already been aware of. But I am rather sure that this book contains relevant facts you have not heard of yet.

I should also mention that this book is not only immensely thoroughly researched but also very well written, and it lists pages of interesting secondary literature. Furthermore, it gives addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses for still existing alternative treatment centers as well as online addresses from which one can obtain Essiac tea and other substances that can be used without professional supervision.

For in case you should still think that I fell for some quackery, let me tell you that my husband, a retired physicist with sound chemistry background, also admires how this book is thoroughly researched and scientifically written. This says a lot because my husband is very critical when it comes to popular science.

So why did I read this book? As far as I know, neither my husband nor I nor any of our friends or acquaintances have cancer.

This book must have been recommended to me a number of years ago, and I must have bought it from Amazon Marketplace, “for just in case”. It fell into my hands a few weeks ago when I sifted through some of my many boxes with unread books.—Unfortunately, I have the 1st edition (published 2004). So I just ordered the 3rd, revised edition (published 2020), as this book is not something you read and put aside but a reference book you will return to more than once. Actually, I plan to reread this book as soon as the 3rd edition arrives.

PLEASE NOTE: If you order this book from Amazon, make sure you order the 3rd edition. (For some reason, when you click Amazon from Goodreads, the old edition pops up first.) The 3rd (= the newest) edition is even a lot cheaper than the 1st edition.

P.S. The orangy book cover on this page shows the old edition. The new edition is more yellowish.

The premise of this book is that conventional cancer treatments don't work and alternative treatments do. The author discusses the political and economic reasons why "effective" treatments are unknown to most people, even to most doctors. The medical establishment is presented as profit-driven and corrupt.

These alternative treatments take many different approaches to cancer. Some attack tumors with X-ray frequencies, or starve them or inhibit their respiration. Others supply enzymes or fatty acids or vitamins or amino acids. Some are herbal. One stimulates endorphin production. One uses nitrogen to "unmask" tumors. Some detoxify the body and open bile ducts. Some alkalinize the body or boost its immune response. Most involve very complex science, which the author tries to clarify. But before considering these approaches one should get clear on what a tumor is and isn't. Is it a mortal enemy to be destroyed by any means? Or is it a defense mechanism, a toxic waste depot created by the body to isolate toxins from the bloodstream? If the latter, attacking it would be dangerous and counterproductive.

The testimonials in this book prove nothing, of course, but there are also detailed explanations about how these therapies are thought to work. You will have to make up your own mind about the plausibility of the explanations. On pages 257-258 you will find a very interesting theory of how normal cells become cancer cells. Interesting, but only a theory.

This provocative book is well-written, mostly clear and understandable. It provides much food for thought about the nature of cancer, without necessarily resolving or proving anything. Are these alternative treatments effective? Who knows? Are they all as non-toxic as they claim to be? I doubt it. It is impossible to generalize about so many different approaches, but most of them circumvent nature to some extent, and have side effects. Still, they are far less toxic than conventional treatments. But there is no mention here of the only 100% non-toxic program I know of: Herbert M. Shelton's Natural Hygiene protocol, which I believe to be superior to any in this book.

Good survey of alternative remedies. The book does seems like a marketing piece for one: Protocel. I would like to know how the book was funded.

When diagnosed with cancer there are so many decisions to be made and research is key. This book covers the many alternative cancer therapies that have been around for quite a while. The trouble with case studies in this book is there are so few compared to clinical studies that are done for new drugs by drug companies, etc. One size does not fit all and while I cannot dispute that some of these remedies save lives, without working with an Oncologist and monitoring your progress, this could be a very dangerous way to go if you decide to go it alone. The other tips in this book are worthwhile to learn and the author has done her homework.

This book had multiple alternate treatments for cancer. It gives many chapters on Protocel, a liquid you take daily. There are case studies, many on late stage cancers. I guess each person would have to decide what is best for him/her. I had pancreatic cancer and was given 6 months. I did not know about this book. I’m not sure if I would have made the choice to do any of these protocols. None are insurance covered. On retirement money, I could not afford them. I’m alive with radiation, chemo, and surgery from my great team of doctors. Alternative treatments have worked for others and I say God bless. It is an interesting book to read.

The most comprehensive works I have found on the subject. Should be required reading for anyone dealing with cancer. Also points out the issues with our medical system.

Excellent resource for alternative cancer treatments. The author has done her research. Each treatment is clearly explained including history and how it was suppressed by allopathic institutions in this country. At the end of each chapter are resources for learning more about the treatmeant. A wonderful book. I highly recommend it!
