The long-awaited sequel to the USA Today Bestselling Story in After Twilight!
Jason Donavon walked in darkness, seeking release from his curse. It has the power to destroy everything—to take his humanity. In a world where he no longer belonged, he felt eyes watching him. Someone or something even more sinister than himself stalked the night.
But there was beauty in the night as well. The woman who materialized to save him from the forces of darkness seemed from another age, another world—but her mysterious eyes held answers to the questions he’d been to afraid to ask. She took him to her world, to the wilds of the North, to the forests. Yet in a place of such primitive ancestral customs, where nature ruled supreme, Jason knew greater dangers awaited. He would be forced to battle the beast within, fight his love for a woman forbidden, and discover whether salvation would come from resisting the seductive light of the moon—or in surrendering to it.
Ronda Thompson lived in the great state of Texas. Ronda had been an avid fan of romance for years and was published in several different genres. Paranormal romance is one of her favorite genres to write because anything can happen and usually does!
There were a couple of things that kept me from wanting to finish reading this:
1. The FMC, is entirely docile while supposedly being a BA werewolf slayer. She's a virgin to keep her pure (gag) and is treated like crap by the people in her tribe. 2. Her tribe is of American Indians who have been staying away from civilization in isolation, haven't become inbred somehow, still have enough wildlife and wild fauna to sustain them, and have never been discovered by white people. 3. Werewolves are bad guys in this book, even though the MMC is one. 4. The FMC feels like she was written in the 80s, with no spunk, no self-confidence, bad ideas, never questions her lot in life, and falls for the first guy she touches. 5. The MMC is a horndog from the beginning and wants to bone her without knowing anything about her and barely respects her when she says to back off (since she always has to tell him at least twice to stop).
It just wasn't worth continuing to read when my TBR list is a mile long.
I was kinda surprised to find it's actually a contemporary romance, yes, I did buy this based on the title and cover alone, admitted. Isn't it a beauty?
Really did enjoy reading the story, it's well written, with a Buffy like chosen heroine, with flow and constant changes to keep the reader guessing what's next, some fun banter between the characters, and the book handles the curse as such, an affliction the hero has to learn to control lest his dark side takes over.
It doesn't get higher marks from me, however, because some of the tropes, like the virgin heroine and an idea of purity culture, which are just not mine.
Sadly, it took myself over a month to read this book. It wasn't due to the size; it's not a huge book, rather I would classify it as a normal sized length. It was due to my recent brain injury and short term memory loss. I finally picked it back up early this morning after my youngest threw up all over myself and my bed, and read the entire book and am now finished.
The ending wasn't quite as I expected, there was a pleasant surprise in certain aspects that were revealed to the main character, Jason. It was nice to have that occur. Honestly, until that point, I found the book a little slow moving. It may have been the setting that I was having issues with, I'm not certain.
It was a good book, don't get me wrong. It just seemed to not be "wowing" me like I've had other books strike me. It was good enough, though, that I would not hesitate to try another from Ms. Thompson.
3.5 rating When your life has been altered, how far would you go to correct it? In a world unable to see the truth around them, caution is warranted. How far will you go to hide the truth? how much would you sacrifice for love? Can a small group get beyond their fear and suspicions to save a life. This story takes on love, betrayal and the inability to change with the world around you. Good read, recommended for all
This is probably my least favorite of Thompson's books. About Tala and Jason. He is looking to find the werewolf who made him what he is. In the process he finds Tala, an Native American Indian whose job is to destroy the evil werewolves. When Jason saves her she decides to see if she can save him.
I read this book way back when I didn't know about GR. I was looking for werewolf stories all over. Hard to believe in 2006, I was not hooked into the internet much. This story is okay with a 2.5 star. This is lighter and not as erotic as the more current books.
