Rate this book
Jarmila's extraordinary beautiful is becoming more bewitching by the day and her heart beginning to quicken with the vibrant passions of a woman, when Prague, her home, is suddenly overrun by revolutionary Czechs demanding independence from Austria's empire. The luxurious life Jarmila had taken so for granted is shattered.

In the hail of confusion, Jarmila finds herself irresistibly drawn to the dark brooding eyes and strong arms of a rebel, a man who loves her with flaming ardor although she is promised to another.

Before their illicit love can fully flower, Jarmila and Pavel are torn apart by the violence of war. Pavel must join his army, while Jarmila is mysteriously abducted to face months of shame and degradation at the hands of unnamed captors.

As war rages through 19th century Eastern Europe, two indomitable hearts struggle valiantly to reunite, for their passion demands to be celebrated...their love to survive.

DNF @ who the hell knows where, because I didn’t bother checking. 25%? 30%? Something like that. 🤖 This was beyond boring & I just could not get into it. Flat characters, bad prose, tedious meandering plot…a stale nothingburger with a side of clammy, congealed fries.

Thankfully this is my 4th & final Bancroft ripper. I genuinely liked one,** but the others were forgettable at best & crap at worst.

**That lone positive is RAPTURE’S REBEL. Either Bancroft had several extra coffees & a strong-willed beta reader or she knocked someone over the head & stole their manuscript. At this point, I’m leaning towards the latter. 🫢

{Note: This book is part of my ongoing quest to pluck tomes I’ve had unread for 7+ years & either love-and-keep or DNF-and-donate.}
