Smoke is a character written for the MALE gaze and the MALE gaze only, indicative in the way that ALL the men envy him and ALL the women (young, old, and everything in between) trip over themselves to get to him.
Need proof? One woman literally JUMPS IN FRONT OF HIS MOVING CAR just for the CHANCE to get some action with him. BULL. SHIT. And the way that EVERY woman, including Sid’s sister, is SO aggressive in trying to “tempt him away from Sid” is also pathetic and unrealistic. SOME women are like that, but every single one in these ridiculous books?
It’s clear this author is far more interested in catering to the male gaze and writing the ideal fantasy life for a character he DESPERATELY wants to embody, than he is on actually writing a half-decent plot and engaging storyline.
The fact so many males believe THIS is the kind of man that ALL women will just throw themselves on and fight each other over is both sad and pathetic. Male authors? Do better. Y’all have NO IDEA what women really want. Smoke is a man’s man, and nothing better.
This isn’t a story. It’s a sad excuse for a prepubescent young boy’s sexual fantasy. Again, do better.
Even though I was excited for this book from the start (because it's from Smoke pov) it sort of lagged during the middle of it. I think the reason being is because all the other books are fast pace action and this one had a lagging moment.
This didn't stir the awesomeness of the series and it's characters though! I always wanted to know what smoke was thinking and this book helped with that. Still lodes of unanswered questions on why he is such a great fighter and so fast....But whereas in Sydney eyes he is this big and tough guy. In this book we learn he is like everyone else...and he bleeds just like everyone else too.
Lodes of action and mail biting moments that will leave you excited and wanting more after its over!
Sydney was coerced into joining the Drake Corporation at the end of the last book and Smoke isn’t dealing with it very well. That’s bad for him—and, as you might imagine—bad for Sydney’s new bosses.
This time we also see some of the Drake Corporation’s supernatural competition, but the enemy of his enemy is not necessarily Smoke’s friend. Smoke’s in it up to his ears and every time you think it can’t get any worse for him—it does.
If you’ve been wanting one of these novels to be all Smoke all the time, you’ve finally gotten your wish.
Not the type of book for everyone with all the descriptive words for sounds. But this is an action book filled with fighting helicopters and lots and lots of guns. I enjoyed this read slow to start but I’m invested!
This book adds to the first with move characters and development of the originals while it is a Bit repetitive it’s still and enjoyable read.
Addition of new things and twists and turns is awesome !
I have to say I’ve never really taken to sid’s character but the story is certainly more enjoyable with her and John as partners, probably because it’s all action but this one had a bit of a lull with John tracking down Sidney after she was kidnapped. I still can’t get used to the weapon sounds though. All in all an enjoyable book.
I know it is said that everyone has a dobbler ganger but this just hit too close to home. And the only way they stumble on it is when Smoke proposed and the but head and Mrs show up to show out. Sid quits to save her sister and niece only to feel trapped in more was than one.
This is the absolute best series I've was in a long time. It just keeps getting better. There are a lot of amazing authors out there but I have to admit that you Mr. Halloran are my favorite.
Audiobook review- Good story with plenty of action. Likable good guys and bad guys. Entertaining storyline. The narrator did a nice job bringing the story to life. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Another good entry in the series, but as some have said it was a bit short. All in all, it was an enjoyable read and adds to the series. Now I just have to wait for the next entry in the series.
We find Smoke just where he flourishes best.......against the odds. Separated from Sid and growing desperate with worry, some touchy alliances must be made.
