A masterfully illustrated exploration of the beauty and complexity of parental love.
In Torill Kove's delicate and moving story, a woman joins her peers to grasp for threads dangling from the sky, each representing an unknown opportunity. Our protagonist snags a particularly special looking thread and is whisked away on an adventure.
She flies across the city and the countryside and comes down gently to meet her fate. Holding the other end of the thread is an infant girl. A mother-daughter connection is born.
As love and trust grow, the thread shared between mother and daughter is pulled and stretched across new experiences, until finally, it must be broken so that the daughter can go out on her own. However, both mother and daughter keep a part of the thread that brought them together. The love in their hearts will never truly let them be separated.
Adapted from the National Film Board animation of the same name, Kove's beautiful and touching portrayal of the loving bond shared by a mother and daughter was named one of the 10 best films at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.
Threads is a perfect keepsake for any mother-daughter relationship, and a perfect gift for Mother's Day.

I came across a beautiful leatherbound hardcover at the library and couldn't resist picking it up. This is a lovely illustrated book about the unbreakable bond between mother and child, and the threads that connect all of us. A nice, quick and meaningful read overall.
Denne var veldig fin. Kjærlighet og tilknytning blir representert som tråder og det fokuseres på tråden mellom en mor og datter. Fortellingen er illustrert med fine og enkle bilder.
A woman's "thread" leads her to an infant girl who she treasures and raises until she is ready to discover her own thread. This abstract exploration of parental love examines the connections a mother has with her child .This book is adapted from an animation film of the same name that was one of the 10 best films at the 2017 Toronto International Film festival. It's 32 pages, has full color illustrations, and makes a good gift for Mother's Day.
This is one of those picture books that you would need to explain to young ones. It contains the beautiful story of how a mother and daughter are bonded together and held together. As the child grows the bond grows stronger, and longer as in the thread. When finally they must part a piece of each other remains. I can see this as a great graduation gift.
A sweet Christmas gift from kiddo's childcare peeps. It didn't wow me because it is so similar to other books about invisible strings and connections. But kiddo seemed genuinely touched by the mommy-daughter bond and happily declared her prediction for what would happen next when we finished reading.
