A collection of stunning photography and building instructions for 10 tiny cities built completely out of LEGO. The designs are amazing and the photos are striking -- but more importantly, readers get the building instructions they need to recreate their own micro cities.
LEGO Micro Cities is a full color guide to creating intricate LEGO micro cities. Readers learn how to recreate classic architectural styles using only LEGO bricks. In addition to creating entire buildings, LEGO model-building expert Jeff Friesen shows how to create interesting architectural features like bridges and skyscrapers, and will offer suggestions on how to customize your cities and make the models your own. With its collection of stunning photography and instructions for building modern cities, futuristic metropolises, and otherworldly utopias, LEGO Micro Cities is sure to provide hours of building fun and inspiration for readers of all ages.
This is one of a whole series of books I'm rapidly getting off my TBR list this month, that I would never really consider buying but that made for interesting reads through my neighborhood library. It's insanely clever, showing through hundreds of detailed illustrations how to build fantastically detailed miniaturized cityscapes on a mere 20 x 20 stud base, picking through the various specialized pieces that have come with specific types of building sets over the years (hint -- there's a lot of Star Wars repurposing here), resulting in tiny yet breathtakingly mind-grabbing edifices. To describe it does it a disservice, so just check out a few photos for yourself here, here, here and here; then don't walk but run to your nearest bookstore and pick up a copy, a must-have for any parent who enjoys building with their child, but one who is aging out of simplistic constructions and is looking for something much more challenging and sophisticated.
I have been wanting to get into micro scale builds for awhile and just need some inspiration. This book is full of ideas, building tips, and instructions all in a micro scale.
One of the best features is how the author encourages you to make the models your own and not just to follow him brick by brick.
I will definitely be using this book when I make that microscale plunge.
Nice book, almost as much an art book as one about building with LEGO bricks. The little cities have an amazing level of detail for being so constrained in size, and this book does a good job on explaining how a talented builder would do all that with all kinds of more or less special bricks.
Sometimes Lego books have pretty things but no real idea which bricks were used. And sometimes there's detailed instructions for models that I don't like. This one has a great variety of different styles of cities with detailed enough instructions (and tips for own modifications). AND it was written in funny(ish) manner. Love it.
As a modular building fanatic, I was never interested in micro cities, but after reading this book, I am looking forward to build all of the 4 cities. They will look amazing displayed.
