*sees Magnus Chase and automatically adds it to my cart*

Wow, I think my brain just might have had a little drop out.
I only saw Magnus Chase and it was like my fingers were moving by themselves.
I didn't even know there was more to come but since I love Magnus and Alex and all their friends this is so going on my TBR.

Thank you Uncle Rick! <3

Some stories were good and some were better than good (Odin, Mallory and T.J) but I'm just not a big fan of short stories. Nevertheless, the fact that all of them are connected via Thor is simply marvelous. I mean, he is trekking around all the nine worlds without observing his surroundings, farting and singing like crazy and creating havoc unintentionally. I like him in this one because he doesn't talk.

Thank you, dear author for the new image of Thor in my mind.

Did I mention that Thor's story was my favourite. Why you ask? Well, because his goal was to rack up ten milion steps to earn a cameo on his favourite tv show. Did he achieve his goal? Yes he did...
But..."I’d do it all over again if I had to. Which, apparently, I will have to, because I forgot to turn on my FitnessKnut."

On the bright side, I'm done with this series.

“I shouldn’t have been startled that he could speak – after all, I’m dead too and I can talk just fine – but I near about jumped out of my skin when he did.”

There is one thing in which I can always count on Riordan to do and that is to make just relax and have a good laugh. This was, of course, no exception.

What can I say about this one? Not much I don't think. It's a nice collection of short stories that take us to this almost ridiculous adventures that our beloved characters are encountered with there is no greater purpose to them or great problem.

It is simply nice and fun, which is not a bad thing at all.

“Most people would have been relieved when a potentially deadly task turned out to be non-life-threatening. I am not most people. I prefer to earn things, not have them handed to me.”

We follow Thor - not really - through the Nine realms of Norse Mythology combining fun and remembering about them neatly.

Each story/adventure has a different narrator and a different, senseless, purpose, which I like without any complaints but the idea that they are all connected, somewhat, through this one comic event was really nice.

If anything else, it made the story/book feel very connected and purposeful.

“My Einherjar have a saying: Some days you are the ax, some days you are the decapitated head.”

I had the best of times and enjoyed myself to no end. Plus, the illustrations are always, always, a bright side.

Now, I would very much like a crossover and I'll be perfectly happy. If it's not much to ask.

“We are not destined to win, but we will fight with honor.”

LIKED
-overarching story of Thor running through all the realms to get his 10 million steps so he could be on a midgardian tv show
-the variety of characters
-the taster of what this series has to offer. It doesn’t really spoil anything, let’s you meet the characters
-the funny feel good vibe

MEH about
- the actual short stories
- Very specific feel to it (I.e it really does feel like a middle grade book)

I was really hoping to like these stories but for the first like 7 shorts, there was no personality in the narrations.

Each story had a different POV from the ‘side characters’ of the main series. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure I only learned one new thing about Halfborn (who’s narration actually carried some of his personality).

If you’re finally going to give us different POVs, at least let us see who they really are!

Anyway, I was also kind of hoping to learn something new about each of the worlds; however, again, the only surprising thing was that Mallory actually interacted with Nidhogg in Niflheim.

I did like how this wasn’t just more Magnus Chase stories. It’s just a shame it missed the opportunity to let us learn more about these characters as individuals.

I was actually kinda hoping of more Magnus and Alex interaction but sadly there's none. Nonetheless it was still a good read.

PS. I badly needed more of Rick Riordan's humor. Please publish another series huehue

I didn't plan to read it right now, however I'm glad I did. it was the best option (one of them; the fastest read probably)
so, funny story (how I ended up reading this, though the book was also contained of funny stories), I was in MG mood, Riordan mood, & trying to avoid another reread of Heroes of Olympus (because I missed them!)- still tempting
so maybe it was not Greek or Roman, but I'm satisfied.

not only better than Camp Jupiter Classified (intended to compare Riordan's companion books in one set), but even slightly better than Camp Half-Blood Confidential too (CHB confidential was funny, good times, & while I adore any new material for my fandoms, this one felt like it had a deeper meaning for being existed, like some mini quests for each character & in the end, all the 9 tales threading together in some ways)
especially since we had everyone's pov s (like CHB confidential) & real stories (but better!), not just commenting on something.

It was hilarious, not as funny as the series of course (we all know Magnus Chase is talking & walking in Sarcasm!, & nothing can win against that!)
& Thor popping up in almost every story! *choked with laughter*

& I was happy to see Alex & Sam & Hearth & Jack & everyone again
& Nidhogg, awwwwwwww, I didn't know you were so cute! (was he in the series? I remember Ratatosk's presence, but Nidhogg? I can only remember his name, not a scene)

Wisdom can be gleaned from any source if only one looks hard enough.

I enjoyed this little continuation of the Magnus Chase trilogy with characters from the series that we really didn't get to hear much from or we heard little from them during the series. Hearthstone, Blitzen, Samirah, Alex, Jack, T.J, Mallory and Halfborn all have their own little story telling what they are getting up to after the events of the last book in the series

Story ratings:

Just another Decapitated Head: 3.5/5

This Is Why I Hate Clothes Shopping: 4/5

This Little Light of Mine, I’m Gonna Let It Shine: 3/5

Speaking of Trolls... 3.5/5

My Eighth-Grade Physics Actually Comes in Handy 5/5

Nice Doggy 4.5/5

So’s Your Face! 4/5

Well, That was Surprising 4/5

I Play with Fire 4/5

I enjoyed the short stories they were all different and a good fitting for each of the characters in the series and i was glad to revisit these characters again

"Somedays you are the ax, some days you are the decapitated head".

I enjoyed seeing more of these characters (especially Hearthstone and Alex), but some of these stories (despite being enjoyable) were just too short and I felt disconnected! Still-I'm glad I read this, and I would definitely recommend reading it if you were a fan of the trilogy!

Of course this book didn't have Magnus Chase because it was the time for the rest of the gang to shine. Like the title says this book has 9 stories set in Nine worlds of Norse mythology and has a story set in each World. And the Cover tells you about another common theme Thor is running through all the Nine Worlds to complete 10 million steps to be able to appear on a TV show on Midgard (Earth) and he does all this while wearing only a leather Daily Duke, oh how I wish that it would be on the cover. :D.

The stories are simple and fun and easy to go through in the end there is foldout image of the world tree which is awesome other than that there is complete information in the back about pronunciation and information about the characters if somehow this is the first book you are reading in the series though you shouldn't do that read the trilogy first and then read this companion book. And then just Keep on Reading.

I SEE A RIORDAN BOOK, I BUY THE RIORDAN BOOK. I'm sorry but I'm just a huge trash for every book that he writes. If ever Uncle Rick decides to write a collection of haikus or say... grocery receipts, I will still buy it.

Of course, when I saw the opportunity to buy this one, I TOOK IT and I regret nothing. I absolutely love the Magnus Chase series and I am CRAVING FOR MORE CONTENT. I was sad when I found out that Magnus won't make an appearance on this one but I still loved every word of this book because my favorite side characters finally got the spotlight they deserve. Uncle Rick's humor never fails to light up my day and all nine stories made my skin clear in a blink.

THERE ARE ALSO A LOT OF STUNNING ILLUSTRATIONS INSIDE THIS BOOK THAT I SCREAMED. They're so beautiful okay? Hail all the illustrators who work so hard to feed my eyes.

I loved all the nine short stories in this collection but I must say that Alex's tale was my favorite. That snark and that ending line??? TOTALLY ENDED ME. Alex can step on my face and I won't even bat an eye.

I LOVE MY EINHERJI CHILDREN SO MUCH. I hope Uncle Rick writes more Magnus Chase books but even if he doesn't, I can always reread all the books. I'm grateful enough that I met all these characters and that I lived in the nine worlds even just for a small amount of time.

NO I'M NOT CRYING I'M JUST COSPLAYING AS A WATERFALL RIGHT NOW.

"Some days you are the ax, some days you are the decapitated head."

There was a distinct lack of Magnus in these stories. While I enjoyed hearing from the gang, especially Hearthstone, there was nothing exceptional about these stories.

It's always fun and refreshing reading one of Uncle Rick's works. I just like his writing so much. And his sense of humor is literally the best.
Really wished Magnus was in there though.

First of all, one story for each of the nine worlds is a genius idea for a short novel.

And the best thing is that they are not just any stories; they are all interconnected by Thor doing his ridiculous run through the nine worlds. So basically, every story is about one of our characters getting an important mission full of danger and then randomly, Thor runs by, mostly messing things up because Thor is a massive idiot.

The missions themselves were all incredibly entertaining and very different from each other. It was cool to spend more time with the characters I’ve grown to love so much.

I just wish we would've seen more of different characters together instead of them going on solo missions, since seeing various weird character pairings was my favorite part about the finale in the series. Like Alex and Halfborn together? Or Sam and Mallory? I had no idea that I needed to see that happening before The Ship of the Dead.

Buy anyway; it's quick, it's fun, and of course I am still head over heels in love with the Magnus Chase series and would still sell my soul for more, so nothing new here.

It was so much fun to revisit the worlds and friends of Magnus Chase, whose series ended much too soon, in my opinion. This short collection is a fun jaunt through all nine worlds of the Norse mythologies, as the title implies, but it is so much more. The combination of literary detail with contemporary, light-hearted writing and characters gives Riordan a place of his own in the genre and in the hearts of his fans. Another winner, for sure.

Getting the opportunity to read about these characters again was a huge blessing because I missed them enormously since the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series had ended last year. This time we get read short stories which were told from different pov's and it almost felt like coming home to Hotel Valhalla
