Modern Toss: Tossary of Terms: A Glossary of Terms for Pointless Modern Phenomena

Rate this book
Tossary of Terms by Modern Toss is the first in an illustrated dictionary series. Produced by cartoonists Jon Link & Mick Bunnage this book identifies and defines, with new words and phrases, a random pisspot of contemporary social phenomena which has so far gone unnamed. The fast changing modern scene chucks up stuff faster than we can nail it down and label it. The ear grease on a smart phone screen, wearing a hat that makes you look like even more of a tit, the DNA rich stew in the bogs hand dryer trough, paying extra money to sit in a plane before the rest of the passengers. This invaluable tool for navigating the 21st century shitscape is printed on paper, rendering it impervious to cyber attack.

A short read but a high hit to miss ratio on inventing punny terms for modern trends and things previously unarticulated (e.g. screen margarine: the grease that accumulates on a smart phone screen). Great words and art, a well executed (brief) read.

Reflections and lessons learned:
“back sack twat [bak sak twaht]
Swinging a lump pack around in a public space with all the care and attention of a drunk driving toff who’s forgotten he’s towing a horsebox”

Do you like comedic simple satire laced with mocking apathy? Do you like stretching language and putting it alongside a slightly uncomfortable drawing? Do you like acerbic and inventive swearing to sum up the idiocy and selfishness of humanity? As the classic clip sums it all up, which will always make me smile… Tony did it
