In this busy world, people don't always have the time to prepare for job interviews far in advance. For job seekers who wait until the last minute and need to speed up fast, there is Next-Day Job Interview. This book distills Mike Farr's revolutionary and proven interview advice into eight quick chapters covering self-assessment, company research, key questions, a system for answering any question that might come up, unusual situations, following up after the interview, salary negotiation, and getting more interviews.
Of the three interviewing books I read and relied on this year, Next-Day Job Interview was the one I came back to most often. It always got straight to the point and even included instructions for which chapters could be skipped if the reader was exceptionally short on time. It had advice not only for the interview itself, but also for mentally and physically preparing oneself in the day preceding. I used it both when I had weeks to prepare as well as the one instance when I really did have a next-day interview. I was highly complimented on my interviews and there's no doubt that I have this book, among others, to thank for it. If you're looking for a book to learn or refresh your interviewing skills, this is my top recommendation.
Pretty easy and to the point; there were some written in italics to give examples how to deal with gaps of employment, long time out of work or unemployment, and career changes which are all examples of mines. I may use some of the lines to help patch up those loose ends. With library jobs, there questions tend to differ than the corporate or contracted interviews via staffing agencies.
Although I do side jobs or freelancing, it is not guaranteed income. (Sadly I heard this time and time again when helping people enroll for health coverage with current job but hoping to get a state one soon!)
Next Day? I needed a little more time than one day however this box was very valuable. Other than getting me a job, I think it helped me realize my capabilities. I have attended several job seeking workshops and this book has included everything in a nutshell. I would recommend this book to anyone getting ready for an interview but would recommend taking more time than one day before.
I have been having a great deal of difficulty in looking for my first job out of college, and I am so glad that I read this book. Now I know the mistakes that I have been making in job interviews that have cost me so much time and frustration by adding time to my job search. Now that I have read this book, I hope that I will be able to get a job soon!
I skimmed through this book, and there were a lot of points that helped me to really self reflect, think about my own skills and how I can best position them. I would not suggest this as a quick study the night before a critical interview, but if you have a few days to really go through it and apply some of questions to your own situation it can help nail the interview.
