Carefree and in love with each other, Alex and Liam are preparing for a college ball. To make the evening perfect, Alex comes up with a plan he hopes will surprise Liam big time. Nothing can go wrong and their happily-ever-after seems inevitable. Just when Alex and Liam least expect it, two people from their past arrive in Eddington with bad intentions. Alex does not realize the seriousness of the situation before two lives are lost. The Death of the Good Guy is the fourth book in Jay Argent's bestselling Fairmont Boys series. It's a story about the kind of love and friendship that is larger than life.
Jay Argent is a novelist in his forties who lives a peaceful life with his husband. His favorite hobbies are music, movies, and romantic novels. He obtained a degree in engineering in 2001 and started his career in a management consulting firm. Right now, he is pursuing his true passion of writing.
Tyler was a great guy for helping and saving others.
High school and college are the place where individual characters begin to exert their moves as they shape their moves. Motivations may be hard to identify, but the track record of bullies is easy to spot as it gets worse quickly. The bodies pile up everywhere. The petty thieves move up to bigger and better things. The good jocks get better scholarships. The alcoholic and druggie suppliers get more hooked but do not care. The chaos created by mixing drugs, hormones, greed, jealousy, friendship, love, fears, fantasies, and hopes of fun bring out the true values and attitudes of the mix of students in amazing ways. The fall out rate may be high, but the lucky ones who avoid the problems quickly learn how to survive in life.
I read the first book of the Fairmont Boys sequences as a standalone novel and I would recommend reading that first, if possible, as it provides more plot and character development and nuance than is givende in the series of five stories available in the Kindle download series. Overall, this is a very enjoyable series with characters who are, on the whole, recognisable and empathetic, discounting the bad guys of course! It may be best to read each story and take a break rather than swallowing the whole thing at once as that does show up the repetitive elements more than night otherwise be obvious. The phrase "cute boyfriend" became a tedious description, for example, due to its overuse. The plot does become fairly melodramatic by book four, but I don't mind as I really did want to see the two main characters, Liam and Alex, face adversity and overcome it. That may be a spoiler, but overcoming adversity is pretty much what this series is about. If the series is ever revised, a little more tight editing and more detailed description would raise this by another star in my rating. Is the series worth a read? Definitely.
Wow, what a way to be feeling at work after finishing this book. When I say I was trying to contain my emotions given where I was, I mean it.
I’ve never done well with losing characters in movies or even real life people, which is expected and understandable I think, considering, but losing this particular character surprised me a lot and I wasn’t expecting it at all.
Whilst there were some grammar and punctuation errors, particularly spelling and certain word choice, and while yes throughout this series it has been distracting, it was still another enjoyable, 4 star read.
Writing and style are maturing in book 4, and author now has a good grasp on creating suspense rather than just telling a story.
However still sets up some pretty unbelievable situations. Don’t want to include a spoiler that gets the review hidden but the situation at the end of the book with their friend is my complaint - it could be handled in a more realistic manner.
I can’t explain how much I have enjoyed this series. It has made me smile and it has made me cry. This is hands down my favorite book and series of all time. Thank you to the author for writing something so amazing. It really touched my heart in ways I can’t explain. As a 20 year old gay man it really hits home with how real this story was. Must read!
It’s been a while since I read books 1-3 and had to reconnect with the characters. Jay did a good job refreshing my memories as I read the book. The ending snuck upon me. I expected a little more concern by others after the big incident. I still managed a few feels and so on to book 5. 3.75 for great friends.
This instalment of the series was hard for me to get through. Some authors when the story goes a little stale they make something 'blow up'. It was exciting to see Sam again. I say give it a shot. Just because I didn't enjoy it doesn't mean that you won't.

This book had some seriously powerful issues and messages and really was a whirlwind of emotion. It was incredibly powerful and even made me teary eyed.
Focus of this part is a little bit shifted from Alex & Liam to another two boys so the chapters with the main characters are like the breath of fresh air. And yeah, it took a long and winding road to rearrange candles and buy cheesecake, this time by Liam, to complete that what should had to be done much earlier.... Having read the book, one needs to listen George Michael's "You have been loved".... So sad and loving "The Death of the Good Guy"....
