Wings #0.5

Before These Wings

Rate this book
Phoenyx and Cole survived the end of the world. The alien invasion that took out most of the population and crippled any form of government—they’d fought that, and they’d survived. Or at least, they’re trying to. They battle starvation, fear, exhaustion, and death every single day, and while the future doesn’t look bright, at least they’re fighting for it. Hope is hard to come by, but when they need it most, it does come—in the form of a different alien entirely—beautiful, with the wings of a fairy, the voice of a siren... And the teeth of a vampire. Sometimes hope is most devastating of all. Never Trust Beautiful Things.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. But it just didn't click with me completely.
Phoenyx, her boyfriend Cole and his sister Enika are all fighting for their lives against these aliens called Garce that don't seem to have much smarts just instincts to kill all human kind. After months of hard living, hiding, and starvation they find some solace in another type of alien showing up to kill off the Garce. They are these beautiful fairy like creatures called Empyreans. They have brought life back to the land including vegetation so that humans can eat freely. But these beautiful creatures are not what they seem and even worse than the Garce.

The story of the trios survival was fast paced and was riveting, but I felt no connection to the characters. Even the MC Phoenyx. I especially found it hard to believe how cold her mother and sister were. I just can't picture a parent acting like that especially as the world is pretty much ending.

I am gonna stick this series out though. It is part of my Kindle Unlimited plan so I'm not shelling out any money and who knows maybe it gets better? Here's hoping!!

I got his book on a whim and I’m quite surprised that I enjoyed it. It was a rocky start for sure. After reading the first six chapters and digesting them over a wonderful 8 hours at work I found my mind kept wandering back to the book to find out what would happen next.

The story is absurd but my interest sure is piqued.

I had a hard time figuring out what book I was supposed to read first in this series! I tend to prefer to read stories chronologically, but this book had JUST come out, whereas I've had the other 2 books for a while now. So at first I thought I was supposed to start with With These Wings instead. As it turns out, Before These Wings is indeed the beginning of Phoenyx (Nyx), Cole, Enika and Keven's story. And I'm really happy I started there! I'm moving straight into With These Wings and truly can't wait to find out how everything turns out! This prequel left me on the edge of my seat; it was totally engrossing and exciting! Ms Knight is one of my favorite authors and I always find her stories to be unique, imaginative and utterly engaging. The characters she develops never fail to be relatable to me (in this case, despite the dystopian world they live in). Each member of the main group in this story is really smart, incredibly strong, fiercely loyal, and exhibits an inspiring selflessness. I'm glad Ms Knight shared this story and these characters with the world!

I loved getting a glimpse into what happened to Phoenyx before the events that took place in With These Wings, which I read first, but the books can be read either way. This reads like a prequel since I read With These Wings first, but Before These Wings does stand on its own, and will definitely make you want to read With These Wings right after! I love the world Wendy Knight has created, there's really interesting enemies for the characters to combat with, and I enjoy Wendy Knight's take on a dystopian world. I love Phoenyx's strength, she's definitely a strong female character, and it's easy to root for her. I love the friendship between Phoenyx and Enika! Enika is a really great friend to Phoenyx, and I love seeing how much they are there for each other. This series is unique and really entertaining, I love the action and the whole alien scenario. I'm excited to see where this series is going to go! Strong and interesting writing with wonderful characters!

I highly recommended this series esp if you love adventure, Romance and fantasy

An alien invasion basically brings on the end of the world. Phoenyx for the most part stays with her boyfriend Cole and his sister Enika. This lost me pretty early on with Phoenyx's obsession with her bitchy mother and sister. She basically puts the only two people who care about her in danger to try and help two people who don't want or deserve her help. I get that she is just a teenager and the end of the world is pretty new but that was just really messed up to me.

This is that keep you on the edge of your seat, heart going wild kind of book. Aliens have invaded and the world is thrown into helpless chaos. Great start to the series, chocked full of action and intense heat between Phoenix and Cole. Though no steamy love scenes in this its still got some steamy moments of inner monolog.

Highly entertaining short prequel to the book With these wings. Loved getting to know more about the people in this magical world. This story differently gives you a whole new side of Phoenyx and Cole and it was very engaging and emotional reading. Loved it!

Aliens invade

If you look into the stars and wonder if we are alone this book is for you. It has 2 separate invasions that are connected but you don’t find out how till the end of the book. Once you read it you will be hoping they aren’t real and don’t find us in this lifetime.

This is the prequel to With These Wings by Wendy Knight, this is the story of Phoenyx and Cole and how they survived an alien invasion, starvation and fear. When a new alien arrives and wants to take all the women and make them beautiful, only one problem they would be made to look like themselves, their DNA would change and they would form wings.
Phoenyx, Enika and Cole were now on the run from both sets of Aliens and it was taking their tole on them until Phoenyx saved Enika from being caught and got caught herself.
We see how Phoenyx changed and how she survived the torture from these new aliens and then escaped to search for Cole and Enika.
I loved this story and hope to see more in this series.

An exceptional read!

They fought. They survived...
But are they really surviving?
They survived the end of the world...
But can they survive the after-effects?
One thing remains: Never trust beautiful things...

I'm stunned! Stunned, I tell ya. All I can is the writing is brilliant, the concept is 100% and the characters are survivalists and fighters as well.

A purely imaginative and well-written read! I cannot get enough of Nyx and the gang. I loved reading about how they survived before the events in With These Wings.

A highly recommended read for sci-fi and dystopian lovers.

Full of aliens, war, survival, danger, hurt, action, adventure and love.

Perfect for readers of dystopian romance/sci-fi/Post-Apocalyptic.

Everything about this book, from the beautiful cover, the flow of the story, the chemistry of the characters is wonderful. Before These Wings gives an in depth view of the struggles and fears that came with survival. Aliens have come to Earth and taken over and the world has fallen. But there are still some that live and have found a way to survive. Phoenyx, Enika and Cole only have each other to depend on. When they first see the Pys, they are surprised at their beauty but they soon learn that there's more that lies beneath the surface.

Delve into their world and experience life after the fall along with Phoenyx, Enika, Cole and Keven. See what life was really like before With These Wings takes place, you won't be sorry.
