Living Water: Studies in John 4

Rate this book
This substantial volume includes more than fifty never-before-published expository sermons on John 4 from one of the twentieth century's greatest preachers. It was just a conversation between two people by the side of a well in Samaria. One, a local woman, came to perform her daily task of drawing water. Another, a Jewish man tired from traveling, sat down for a drink. But he wasn't just any Jewish man, and this wasn't just any conversation. The man, Jesus, revealed himself as the Messiah, leading to the conversion of not only the Samaritan woman but many from her town. Now, for the first time, fifty-six sermons by Martyn Lloyd-Jones on this passage of Scripture are available in Living Water . Lloyd-Jones, known for his ability to clearly communicate profound theological concepts, digs into this familiar passage from the fourth chapter of the Gospel of John, exposing fresh layers of truth. His perceptive analysis is helpful for all who thirst for the living water that only Jesus can provide.

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones was a Welsh Protestant minister, preacher and medical doctor who was influential in the Reformed wing of the British evangelical movement in the 20th century. For almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London. Lloyd-Jones was strongly opposed to Liberal Christianity, which had become a part of many Christian denominations; he regarded it as aberrant. He disagreed with the broad church approach and encouraged evangelical Christians (particularly Anglicans) to leave their existing denominations. He believed that true Christian fellowship was possible only amongst those who shared common convictions regarding the nature of the faith.

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones was married to Bethan Lloyd-Jones

Much Needed Teaching Today

This study into John 4, of the Samaritan woman at the well is something that is much needed in todays Church. Christians need to know who and what they are in Christ and to then live in a way that shows the true Nature of Life in Christ. When unbelievers look into the Church today they are not seeing believers living lives much different than their own. The Doctor goes in depth to show how this needs to change starting with our evangelism. This is a great book!

Really a 4.5.
Lloyd-Jones develops teaching from things missed by the normal reader...at least my me. He turns John 4 into the basis for a systematic theology almost.
Easily understood yet challenging.
