After several years as a college English instructor (where she savored her “fun books”—usually historical romances—on the side), Emma turned her love of page-turning, richly historical stories into a career. She lives in drizzly Seattle with her husband, their daughter (the wee lass) and a crazy cat named Oban (after the town in Scotland or the whisky made there, depending on who you ask).

Ok so this book was well on his way too a 4.25 star book UNTILL at the end it has become a trend that this is a book about Highland Warriors for Scotland and SEVERAL of the hero’s have to give up everything and move to England and now Paris to live at the heroines home ect with a lame excuse we will visit the Highlands. Give me a break it definitely takes all the wind out of the sail when you are making big brawny Highlanders live in England and France I have not written it in my previous reviews but I just hate it. It ruins the whole
Great story that keeps the reader involved and turning pages. The sex made so sense, though. A young woman who made a mistake and was almost ruined because of it, works dilligently to redeem her reputation then suddenly jumps right in to do the same thing again? And, Kieran’s reasoning in taking all he can from Vivienne - even knowing what she had went through - and offering her no more? That left a very bad taste. Also, the villain and wild chase at the end was completely unbelievable. If one can overlook those missteps, the overall story truly is well-written and full of action, suspense and, of course, romance.
#8 in the intriguing HIGHLAND BODYGUARDS series. While, part of the Highland Bodyguards Series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone. HER WILD HIGHLANDER will take you on a journey from Scotland to Paris then back to Scotland. A page turner with an intriguing storyline, engaging and charming characters, danger, treason, treachery, mystery, suspense, romantic interaction and finding love. Powerful and compelling story! Robert the Bruce's Bodyguards will not only capture your heart but their love for their country, clan, and their lasses will linger with you long after the last page. HER WILD HIGHLANDER, is definitely a keeper. I love this series, and highly recommend! Fans of Scottish romance, Scotland, history, suspense and romance will definitely enjoy HER WILD HIGHLANDER. Emma Prince never fails to capture my heart, and keep me on the edge of my seat, with her knowledge of Scottish history, her charming characters and her masterfully written storylines. In my humble opinion, another hit by Emma Prince! Pick up your copy today!
My thoughts, as I experienced the story: "After the gardener attacked, Vivienne said "Aye" instead of "Oui" when Kieran asked if she was okay. I wonder if that will be significant later, or if it was a slip.
I wonder: Is the Queen still going to send Vivienne's allowance to her father to help even though Vivienne isn't at court? I really hope so... I don't want him to suffer.
Oh my- "Neither me without you, nor you without me", the story of the honeysuckle and the hazel branch. It made my heart absolutely sing.
Aw, I loved their visit to her Dad's estate. It seemed so... real. So realistic.
Ooooo.... Captain Ganger Larsson. I like him. He's the second captain in this series that I've adored. I hope he gets cameos, or even better- his own story, in the future.
Vivienne is more dedicated to pleasure than me... there is no way I could get down while sea sick. Hard pass. I can appreciate the sentiment and how it plays into the story, but it would've been a no from me.
"Now if she could only manage to protect herself from the traitorous stirrings of her heart." Cliche.
Geez, what Bevin did to his little cousin... that was an unexpected dark note.
They really should've taken that arrow out asap. Even if they didn't stitch it completely, etc. I feel like they should've kept both horses too. I could almost get behind the losing of the chestnut mare, but leaving the arrow in was a terrible decision of Kieran's.
I'm not sure I understand why Kieran's so resistant to talk about Lynette. I mean, I get that it was painful, but I'm a little surprised that it scarred him the way it did.
I don't think Kieran's big epiphany about how wrong he was as he was held at dagger point was necessary. I feel like that was one of those things that were seen and felt, but didn't necessarily need to be explained. It sort of pulled me out of the moment.
I'm enjoying the suspense of not knowing how happened to Kieran, thinking him dead, and wondering how Vivienne is going to get away. To be fair, I know he'll live- the both will- because they usually do, but still.
I hope Kieran keeps the grey stallion, names him and he becomes his trusted steed. I'm sort of bothered that he didn't get more of a characterization, considering he playing a pivotal roll in the story and was such a good boy.
Not her book!!!! As a book lover, I cannot imagine the loss. That is awful. I know the queen gives her more violet oil at the end (along with the sparkly new copy of her book from the Bruce), but what happened to her original violet oil that they packed? Was it also lost in the fire? Or did something else happen to it that I missed? Did she just... run out?
I'm not sure how I feel about Vivienne not being hurt other than some slaps and kicks. It just seems way too optimistic. She would've been tortured along the way, even if she wasn't completely incapacitated because they would need her to be able to ride... but I feel like at the least, there would've been some SA, etc. I understand the drive to make things happy, but it wasn't realistic.
Heck yeah, off with his head! That's what he deserved, and was a realistic gruesome details.
I also enjoyed the medieval first aid for the puncture/flooded lung.
So The Bruce got his family back, I'm guessing? Since he's building them a home? The last I heard, they were held by the English, and some of his family was suspended in cages? I'm interested to learn more about that."
Final thoughts, it wasn't necessarily my favorite, but I did enjoy it.

Seriously, I really couldn't put this book down until I finished. I only paused to rest when my eyes couldn't focus anymore and I forced to sleep for a bit😒Anyway, it was worth every minute of my time. This is one I wish ,in some ways, was made longer than Emma's usual length. I say that cautiously because if it was extra long I'm not sure if my emotions could deal with it. It had just enough excitement, history, romance, danger and intrigue to keep you glued to the book. Kieran and Vivienne are both strong hero's you just can't help to rout for them to be together even when the odds seem to be ever climbing against them. My heart almost stopped when one of them was seriously stabbed in front of the other . I thought Emma wouldn't donthisbto her fans would she? You'll have to read to find out like I did. I'm sure you'll love it too. Now I have to wait till her next bodyguard corps book comes out to see how those 2 are doing as well as learning about the next pair . I think that won't be till the summer or later 😔But definitely read Emma's books you'll be glad you did. It's not time travel but otherwise it has the same elements that Outlander died in a lot smaller size, what's not to like?except the wait for the next book lol💜🍻
Kieran MacAdams is one of Robert the Bruce's special guard. He is however worried about a lady he left in Paris who could be in danger. Luckily for him, his king wants the woman kept safe as well. Lady Vivienne is one of the French Queen's ladies. She has worked hard to keep her reputation spotless. Her job might look silly to some people, but to her it´s important.
Now this highland barbarian has come to ruin everything. There is no way anyone can hurt her in the royal palace. She doesn´t need a bodyguard. The differences in personality of our lead characters is what makes this story so very amusing. They will face terrible danger and learn to accept and enjoy their differences. A fast paced romantic adventure that you will not be able to put down. This is part of a series that should really be read in order. I have loved all of them.
The sexual tension hisses and crackles from the very beginning as Kieran MacAdams and Lady Vivienne realise that their attraction to each other runs far deeper than lust. Gruff, blunt, huge, muscular and sexy, handsome Kieran fell for Vivienne the moment he met her months before. Beautiful, spirited, a young French woman who knows her own heart and mind, she harbours a shameful secret, but then Kieran has secrets of his own, but Vivienne's life is in danger, and Kieran is determined to protect her at all costs. This is one of my favourites of all Emma Prince's outstanding Highland Bodyguard series. It is humorous, extremely passionate, emotional, and full of adventure, whilst capturing the darkness of this era too. Emma has a way with words that keeps you turning the pages, I absolutely loved it!
Kieran is a big man. You know the saying...the bigger they are,the harder they fall. But not him. No way. He is fine on his own. Doesn't need any help. You know the type. And Vivienne is a thorn in his paw or gut. You don't have to read the previous story but it just shows more of the inter play between the two and how she just irritated him. And why he goes back to France. You learn more of her backstory earlier. He is the stoic one who has walked up his heart and his past. But read the series! I started late. About 3 books in. And then I had to get the previous one, then the first one and so on till I finally caught up and now as soon as a link comes out I prebuy. I don't want to miss. Truly hoping Niall is next!
You know every time I read one of Emma Prince's books I say "It's my favorite out of all her books". And this time is no different! I loved this book so much that when I received it I had a terrible head cold and cough but that did not stop me at all. I just climbed into my reading chair with a cup of lemon honey tea, my jammies and the book and read. One of my favorite parts was when Kieran stormed through the maze to get to Vivienne to save her. LOL Emma has such a style of writing that just pulls you in and takes you along for the ride. I did look up Scone Palace and made it my cover page on my desk top. It's a beautiful castle.I have come to the conclusion that anything Emma writes is pure magic!
Kieran and Vivienne's story is a romantic and heartwarming tale. Both have had their hearts wounded in the past and are reluctant to allow themselves to love again. But circumstances and danger have drawn them together to where they are having to trust and care for each other . Their banter and denial of their feelings was humorous and kept me smiling throughout the book . Also as always Ms. Prince has reintroduced many beloved characters from her Highland Bodyguard series and leaves us mouthwatering for her next book without making this book into a cliffhanger . I would definitely recommend this book for a day on the beach or snuggling down into the blankets late at night .
This is a fabulous love story full of romance, intrigue, nail biting adventure, and some steam. I couldn’t put this book down. What adventure this is. I loved Kieran, he was so Braw, honest romantic, and protective. What a hero. Vivienne was so brave, strong, and loving. Their love story is so tender. The villains are to hate, some of the worse I have seen. The other characters are so like able. This whole series is awesome, and I advise to read in order, I did and you get to know the reoccurring characters, and like them very much. I don’t want to spoil it so enough said. Read and you won’t be sorry. Needless to say, I highly recommend it and the whole Series.
Kieran and Vivienne's story was a good fill-in for the series, since the last story. This story flowed right along. Vivienne is one of the French Queen's Lady's in Waiting. She assisted the Scottish King recently by helping to foil a plot to kill him. Now her life is in danger. Kieran MacAdams, is a fierce brute warrior who is determined to help the French lass who helped them recently with saving his King. He knows he needs to protect her. She and he are so opposite from one another that it will not be easy. Each have internal trust issues.
I will say their story was not my favorite of the series, but it was still very good. I look forward to Niall and Mirian's story next.
First I fell in love with the cover of this one. Kudos to the designer, and I’m asking Santa for Kieran for Christmas! I have always vastly enjoyed Emma Prince’s Highlander novels because they are so well written that it’s easy to see the story in your head as you read. The characters are so well developed with multi faceted personalities that it’s easy to get caught up in their verbal sparing and interaction between the characters. This is a book you are not going to want to put down until your read it in its entirety. I love that the plot was very original to me, unlike any other I remember reading. This book and the entire series really, are easy to recommend. Fabulous read 😍
This might be my favorite one yet from Emma Prince. Both the hero and heroine were perfect, with the heroine being prim and proper, yet with a vulnerability from her past, and the hero being all braw, blunt warrior. They were opposites, yet perfect for each other. Their chemistry was electric, and I couldn't help falling in love with their love story. The plot kept me turning the pages, eager to find out what would happen next. From the intrigues of the French court to the Highland wilderness, every moment was a delight. I also loved that some characters from previous books (and upcoming books) in the series made appearances. Cannot wait for the next book from her!
Wishing that the next Highland Bodyguards, Book #9 will be finished earlier than late Fall. Emma Prince has captured my interest in Medieval Historical books as no other author has ever been able to do! The author's noted at the end of each book is so enlightening. I enjoy the fact that her books are based on historical facts. While awaiting Book #9, I will read her other series on Vikings, as well as, standalones
As always Emma has written a winner. I've read all of her books and am anxiously await the next one.
Emma has written yet another winner. I've read all of her books and am always waiting for the next one. Thanks Emma for your ability to combine fact and fiction seamlessly. Carry on!
The plots against Robert the Bruce are devious and dangerous to more than just his Majesté. The Lady in Waiting and the verra large member of Bruce's elite Bodyguard Corps battle more than just conspirators, they fight against their own natures. I recommend this book.
This is another good book in this series by Emma. It has been a wonderful series and I look forward to the next book. I didn't think that I was going to like Kieran, but he had a reasons for being so cold. I was glad that sweet Vivienne found her happily ever after. I really enjoy Emma's historical notes at the end of her books.
What a good story! Kieran and Vivienne are determined to stay detached from one another and their feelings. I like how this story comes seamlessly on the end of the previous book. Kieran and Vivienne are lesser characters in the previous book but are set up nicely for their own adventure and story. Love it!
What a great story! I loved seeing old friends and learning Kieran's story. With all the twists and turns, and the miracles of healing so quickly, I couldn't put it down! Great read!!!
I have loved every book in this series. Kieran and Vivienne was a story I have been anxiously awaiting. It surpassed my expectations. I couldn't put the book down but was sad when it ended. Now I must wait for book nine. This is definitely a series I will read again.
I could not put this book down. Kieran is (literally) larger than life and Vivienne is so torturously lovable. Finding one another and finally realizing their love was a joy. Can’t wait to hear the next story of the Highland Bodyguards.
Ms Prince’s novels keep getting better for the historical facts interwoven but I felt like the romance on this one was a little in the style of the old harlequin “bodice rippers”.
They needed to learn to trust each other because of their pasts. Vivienne wants to believe in Kieran but she made mistakes in her past . Kieran lost Linette his wife and bairn do to a freak accident. He closes off his heart until he meets Vivienne.
I absolutely love the medieval history in all these books! I have read the whole series and am fixing to start book 9. But I have noticed all the romance is basically the same, which has left me disappointed.
Rather bloody and gross in spots If it's also very explanitive regarding sex scenes. I skipped pages as I read. It has high possibilities if it was simply "cleaned up" some. The story was basically a good story.
Loved this book. the descriptions of the travels and building and lands they traveld and the diffrent palrents and Kings and Quing was amansing. A must read.
