She thinks he's too good to be true. But he'll prove he's the perfect man for her.
Kim Hansen has terrible luck with men. When her sexy downstairs neighbor shows a more-than-neighborly interest in her, she's suspicious. She's been burned too many times, by too many guys. Charlie Keller is smart, hot and successful—so what would he want with her besides a few nights of fun?
Kim does her best to shut him down, but Charlie's not put off by her attitude. He doesn't scare easy. Though she uses sex to safeguard her emotions, he sees through her tough exterior to the tender heart beneath.
He'll have to win her over. Sure, their bedroom action is intense, but given her past mistakes, Kim's convinced Charlie is too good to be true. Just too perfect. But Charlie plans to prove that he's the perfect man for her.
Please note: This is a re-issue of a previously published title.
Nona Raines became hooked on romances when she first picked up "The Flame and the Flower" by Kathleen Woodiwiss (and she's not telling how long ago that was). Romances may have changed since then, but her love for a good love story has not. She's been writing off and on for years, but it was only when she joined the Central New York Romance Writers Association that she finally gained the support and confidence she needed to complete a manuscript.
Nona lives in upstate New York with her many pets and is currently working on her next novel. A former librarian, she enjoys reading books of all genres and discussing them with others. She is thrilled to finally be able to call herself an author.
Sometimes your love life is really, really unfortunate. Kim has a history of bad ending relationships. After so many times she doesn't want to risk her heart anymore. Wrapped up in emotional armor, she refuses to give her handsome neighbour any chance to see her true self. Charlie, after the turbulent and heart breaking events from his childhood, mastered control over himself. He become the good, sensible man. And now with this beautiful neighbour of his that seems to constantly issuing challenges for his self control, can he let go and enjoy the ride? I really enjoyed their history. The dynamics between them, Kim's dry sense of humour and the way she learned how to be herself, how to express herself was something truly beautiful. And Charlie... Oh, Charlie! Intelligent, handsome, sensitivity, sensual (reeeaaaly good in bed...), just, you know: Her Perfect Man.
Kim is great at deflecting from having to have any real thought of feeling about herself ever since a traumatic even when she was only a teenager. They way her parents treated her ensured she would never excel or think she is worthy of being a better person or succeeding in life. In walks Charlie, a school teacher which repels Kim as she thinks they are all judgy and boring but she is about to find out that's not always true. There were plenty of times I felt just as frustrated at Kim for the self loathing as Charlie did but also the sadness of how things came to be. I loved how this read had you wondering throughout if they would ever really truly get together which had me hooked even more to the story.
Sweet well written story but with twists because of the sassy and feisty behavior of Kim who’s afraid to have a real relation in which she would share her past and she always tries to destroy each relation. I loved the characters. Because of her past, Kim feels she is like a failure and she can’t have a long relation : her behavior seems to be to attack every boyfriend she has until they let her down. But when she meets her neighbor (Charlie) after another break up, she discovers a man who is used to deal with this kind of behavior because is a teacher. Kim doesn’t really know how to scarre him. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Welcome back! This is the third book in the The Man series from Nona Raines, so if I haven’t inspired you to pick up this fantastic series – here I go with another try. Below you will find links to my other to reviews to books one and two.
Her Perfect Man is Kim’s book. Kim we have met in both book one and two, and right away I felt like this woman was someone I wanted to be friends with. And now I know I do. I mean, she’s got issues. Her self esteem is in the toilet. She doesn’t trust men… or women, really. Her family is for shit. But she’s got Groucho, the ever grumpy cat rescued from the streets. And she has herself.
Beeeeep…. We break in to interrupt this review process to draw your attention up up up upward to the cover. Beeeeep….. Holy Hell and Abs of Love!!!! Ahem. This is definitely my favorite cover from the series. This man needs to have shrines and monuments erected in his honor. Heheh heheh heheh. I said erected. Heheh. See, people? This is why I shouldn’t write reviews at night!!
Ok, back to my review. Sorry about that folks, my brain fell right out of my head as my jaw dropped to the floor.
Something that I absolutely love about this book is that it overlaps the last book a bit. Not a lot, but enough to fill in the timeline for you, and add something special to the mix. We get to see the breakup with Adam, which even though I feel bad for everyone involved , its still an awesome breakup. But there is definitely a new horse on the horizon, and his name is Charles.
Charles, if you remember, is the teacher who lives in the same building as Kim. Well, as it turns out, his little cameo in book two was no accident, my friends. His striking blue eyes had me at hello. But more than that, this man is a gentleman. And he wants to treat Kim the way she deserves to be treated. And for that I am so happy, because its about high time that Kim got some true happiness of her own. I mean, I loved Adam, but that situation wasn’t good for her no matter how you sliced it.
Charlie grabbed her forearm and pulled her through the doorway. “Get in here.” Before Kim could think, he smushed her against his chest and kissed her for all she was worth.
Oooooh yeah, gotta love kisses like those!! The chemistry in this book was hot. I mean it, the sparks between these two could light a fire. But even beyond that, you fall in love with them as they do. And that right there is worth the price of admission. But don’t take Charlie for a pushover. He stands up to her and doesn’t take her b.s. And that is great. You know what else is great? In Charlie’s inner monologue, he calls himself “chuckles” . Seriously, that had me cracking up! And it cinched it for me. I love Charlie. Yep, I do. I mean, I know I’m somewhat of a book boyfriend tramp, but come on… when a good guy comes around, who is learning to deal with his own issues, who will stand up for you like no one on this planet ever could (oh, you will love that one, trust me!) and wants you like the desert wants the sand, well, you stand up and take notice.
It’s not all roses and sunshine. There is some very real stuff that goes down in this book. There are lots of issues with the people around Kim, and they are very… shitty. Yep, I said it. But even then, Kim’s story made me laugh at times. It excited me. And it brought me to tears. Kim is like so many women I know. Like, ummm, me. While not everything rang true of course (hello, she is a fictional character, I’m pretty sure) so many aspects of her life reflected my own, or those of people I know. I felt very connected to this character and my heart broke for her through several tragedies. But have no fear, that girl isn’t some lonesome dove. She’s a phoenix.

After enjoying books 1 and 2 of the Man series by Nona Raines, I impatiently waited for book 3, Kim’s story. I loved meeting Kim in the first 2 books. It was obvious in the first 2 installments that she was much more invested in the relationship with Adam than he was so I looked forward to seeing if she would get her happily ever after.
On the outside Kim gives an air of being tough and unbreakable but inside she is deeply scarred from growing up in a less than loving home. She is insecure and scared of letting anyone get too close to avoid getting hurt. Then we have Charlie who is a neighbor of Kim’s in the same building. He is the complete package, sexy, smart, gentle, loving and tenacious. He knew exactly which direction he needed to go with Kim to break her tough outer exterior and get to the real woman beneath. I enjoyed watching the sparks fly between them and couldn’t do anything except root for the two of them.
This story line takes place parallel to Take This Man. It was great to see some of the same scenes however this time around from Kim’s perspective. I chuckled again and thought to myself “you go girl” when she whacks Adam with his sandwich. What a classic scene!! Even though Adam redeemed himself in book 2, I can’t help but love that part and got to read it twice!
If you are looking for a great story with lots of emotion, conflict, tenderness and steamy sex, you will enjoy Her Perfect Man. It is a great third addition to the Man series and Ms. Raines definitely did not disappoint. She has found a place on my auto-buy list and I look forward to reading all I can by her in the future.
My favorite of the 3 books I have read by this author, Her Perfect Man combines the tightly woven story that integrates well-defined characters that are not at first glance likable, with a romance with their “one”. Taking Kim, a heroine that is bratty and snarky with a penchant for acting out, she is created with a depth that leads you to discovering the why, and wanting to root for her. Although there are times you want to reach in and slap her, the underlying sadness and insecurities combine to create a character that you want to cheer on to her happy ending.
This story carries a bit more conflict and upheaval than the others, some even bringing the reader to tears: but the underlying conviction that this couple is meant for each other is sweetly rewarded and reinforced, despite obstacles thrown in the way. While there are sex scenes detailed in this story – they really do take a backseat to the emotional connection in the relationship, how Kim and Charlie deal with their own issues, and what those issues bring to their relationship. That is not to say the scenes aren’t hot: they are, decidedly so. But, this book is so carried forward by the relationship and character development that they would not be missed if they were omitted. The books in this series stand beautifully on their own merit with tightly crafted writing and well developed characters – but you will want to read all three.
I received the eBook copy from the Jeep Diva for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.
I had read both of the other books in this series so it made understanding Adam and Kim pretty easy. Even though Kim comes across as kinda nasty the story puts her in a whole different light. I really like Charlie. He might lose it now and then, such as the swimming pool toss, but overall how could a person not like Charlie. This story gave me a warm feeling that there are mates out there for almost everyone. The story has plenty of hot sex and gave me more than one laugh so I have to say I really enjoyed it. It fit in perfectly with the series
Her Perfect Man is Book 3 of The Man Series by Nona Raines. While it's not necessary to read the first two books in the series, the author does a superb job of setting up the backstory for this one so I highly recommend them.
I loved Kim in the earlier stories and am so happy that she finally gets her happily ever after. Charlie was a sweetheart. I loved how he saw through her tough girl facade and didn't settle for anything less than the real Kim.
I really loved this book. This is the 3rd book in The Man Series. Kim’s story. We met Kim in the first 2 books hooking up with Adam. This one is about Charlie who is a neighbor of Kim’s in the same building. He is the complete package but will Kim be able to figure it out? I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
I really l liked this story, probably my favorite in the series. She's been hurt, let down, not felt loved and appreciated. So she gives up on the dream and her heart closed shop. Now he has to convince her that this is worth taking one more chance.
