Rate this book
Mysterious symbols written in the blood of murder victims, a respected government official no longer in possession of his own will, a High Priest clever enough to work the political system and ruthless enough to dispatch anyone who gets in its way.

The list of challenges facing Namzu, High Priest of Eridu, is as long as it is daunting. Skilled in the dual arts of investigation and judicial enforcement, Namzu must navigate an ancient world of superstition, myth, and intrigue; a world in which demigods from Atlantis walk among mere mortals; a world inhabited by loyal servants, simple fishermen, mythological cannibals, and unparalleled evil.

Unbeknownst to him, the dark hand of vile corruption has swiftly taken hold and ready to unleash unspeakable evil upon what was previously the peaceful, well-ordered city-state of Eridu in ancient Mesopotamia. With the help of a mystical people known as the Anunnaki and one loyal house servant, Namzu will need every arrow in his investigative quiver to track down and stop the power behind the murders before it’s too late.

A fantasy world built on mythology and the oral tradition of the ancients that will immerse you deeply in stories that are unforgettable!

Born in Homestead, Florida, Ravek Hunter grew up in the United States and Belgium. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Florida International University and went on to become a sporting goods executive. He currently serves as a consultant in the same industry and occasionally assists his wife of twenty years at her floral design company. The proud father of two boys, Ravek counts reading, exercising, and family travel among his leisure hobbies.
Over the past four decades, Ravek’s passion has been researching ancient civilizations with a focus on the origin stories behind their mythology. His writing style attempts to immerse the reader into the story by bringing to life historically accurate, rich details of the culture and time-period that frame the narrative.
Inspired by classic fantasy authors like Robert Jordan, H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, and R. A. Salvatore, Ravek writes to entertain and provoke his readers, who, he hopes, share his fondness for mythology.

Just the book which I really like to read.

The book is about a demon who controls the Sanga of Eridu, which makes him do the evil deeds. The demon along with seven others were trapped in the underworld with the help of spells used by the higher priests but one of these big demons become loose and start controlling the minds of people.

He even results in the death of En Ipqu-aya, the highest priest in the hierarchy. He was like the ruler of Eridu. The demon could only be trapped again by banishing him with his true name which was only known by heavenly figures like gods, but in a reward the true name is being acknowledged by Arwi-a, wife of sanga so that he can tell this name to the other who she was very close to so that he can defeat the demon.

Just quite amazing read. Just obsessed with the series by Ravek Hunter.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review with many thanks to the publisher.

I always wait at least a day before doing a review of a NetGalley novel so that I can make sure that the review is thoughtful and not just a knee jerk reaction one way or another. In this case, even though I stuck to my routine, I really didn’t need to because this books author just knew how to draw me in and allow me a good romp through his world.

Though this plot is predicatable, the writing and richness of character and world building totally make up for it. This was just a really fun read. The authors’ world was so rich and plausible that, at times, you could ‘hear’ the crowds, smell the atmosphere, see the tapestry of the characters surroundings and almost touch the different materials that surrounded them. I loved the characters being true to themselves throughout the read without suddenly having some characteristics to just serve the plot suddenly thrown in.

The author made sure to show how underneath the supposed god endowments, the Atlantians shared the basic emotions and life challenges as the humanity of this age. Even without comparing magical abilities or advanced technologies, this core sharing embude all the characters a true richness of inclusion instead of seperatism because of skin color and other sect attributes.

I would recommend this book to anyone just looking for some imaginative fun!

I received an ARC of this novel via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to love this book, but for some reason, it just didn't quite sit well with me. While there were a number of things that I liked – the world, the magic system, the research behind the novel, the suspense didn't quite work for me neither did the characters. The only character I grew truly fond of (and got to know in such a way that I actually cared for him) was Ashmadu, the others seemed simply 'puppets', plot devices to move the story forward and couldn't feel an inch of emotion for them.

The story was also hard to follow for a while because of all the foreign phrases, names and titles; I do not know many things of ancient Mesopotamia or the sumers so the language and all these names were confusing and up until half of the novel I actually had to keep track of who was who and what their titles meant. This kept me from getting more deeply involved with the story.

My main issue was that the mystery simply wasn't interesting, especially because we get to know who the culprit is in the beginning; and from then, I just simply couldn't care. It could've been interesting to see the other characters trying to solve the mystery and figure out, who's behind all the murders, but it wasn't written in an interesting way. Also, I found the villain extremely dumb and cliché. There was nothing unique about them. It's such a shame because the writing itself was good and the world was super interesting (seriously, Atlantis! how cool is that), but I was just honestly bored with most of the novel.

After reading Ravek's other book, The Fallen, I wanted to read more by this author. Saving Eridu was a completely different story unrelated to his other book except that it was set in a different part of the same world.
The story was fantastic. A paranormal murder mystery based in an ancient civilization in Mesopotamia. I was extremely impressed by the depth the auther went to researching this world and laying it out so visually that you could imagine being there.
Loved it.

I absolutely loved this book. A great combination of fantasy, myth & current situations wrapped in a story of wonderful characters involved is many different problems in a tightly plotted well thought out story. I will definitely follow this author & read his other books.💜💜💜

Not your typical crime thriller, this one is set thousands of years ago in Mesopotamia. Surprisingly good story, the characters are addictive. Wonderful mix of crime and fantasy.

The author has created a rich and wonderful universe. Brimming with different races, histories and characters. I think I would have enjoyed this story a lot more of o has read it's predecessor first. It's now on my tbr list and if my theory proves true I'll likely bump this up a star.
