Ça va mal. Ça va pas bien.

What would he do to get her back? ANYTHING.

Take a journey into the exotic culture of bayou country in Louisiana's Lafayette and Acadia parishes. Cajun beauty, Angelique Bellefeuille, has had enough of bikers and their bullshit. Being put in danger because of her father's motorcycle club makes that conclusion rock hard solid.

When she's sent to an allied club for protection from a rival club, she's reunited with her childhood friend, Just Batiste. Only he's not the cute, fun, adventurous kid she remembers. He's large, in charge, and menacing.

The last thing Batiste needs is a distraction from the new joint venture with the SSMC, but Fate has her own sense of timing and her own sense of humor as well. Angel is partly his memory of her as a little girl and partly grown woman walking around in the mind-numbing form of a curvy, blue-eyed mischief maker.

Just when he thinks he can't get more frustrated with the little troublemaker, she's kidnapped by the very people he's supposed to be protecting her from. What will he do to get her back? Anything. Distraction or not, he vows she'll be returned unharmed or he'll personally initiate Armageddon.

What A Waste

I have not read a book this bad in a long time. So much so I had to write a review because it was that horrible. 1. My biggest issue was the rapid POV changes between the characters. It left me confused and frustrated. 2. The hero is a wannabe alpha but a true wimp. 3. The romance tries to be a slow burn that fell so incredibly flat. 4. The flashbacks into the story added nothing and I ended up skipping whole chapters. 5. I understand the author was trying to bring the magic of Cajun culture alive and mix it into the sub-genre of an MC romance, but the result made the characters seem backward and simple minded. 6. The fact that the H feels he can “fix” the PTSD of the h because she doesn’t need a “head doctor” (see #5) through a forced situation really annoyed me.

Probably one of the best MC books I have read in a long while. Everything about it is great: bayou setting, friends to lovers, second chance, MC brotherhood, bad guys vs really bad guys. Loved Batiste a lot! Loved the back and forth with Angelique as well.

Hurry up and give me more of this MC!

Batiste was the first book in Victoria Danann’s Cajun Devils MC series. It was a spin off from her Sons of Sanctuary MC series.

Just Batiste was the President of the Cajun Devil’s MC. He was born and raised in the MC, in the heart of the Louisiana Cajun country.

Angelique Bellefeuille was the daughter to an allied chapter’s President. She was drop dead gorgeous but she was in danger from a rival MC. She knew the life and wanted nothing to do with it. Her father made her go to Batiste’s chapter for safety until he could handle it.

I liked the premise of the story. I liked the suspenseful nature in the plot. I liked the Cajun flare. I also liked the characters. A lot. All four were spot on and kept me interested. I did, however, wish it moved to the point quicker. I felt it took a little longer than I liked to set it up. Once it began moving, then I was enthralled.

Danann also did a great job of meshing the Sons of Sanctuary MC (SSMC) into the mix, both new and old favorites. I’m not sure where Danann is headed next in the Cajun Devils series, hopefully Pickup. In the meantime, Dev Merit is up next for the sixth book in the SSMC and I can’t wait!

Holy hell...I have never been a person who condones violence, but I seriously wanted to bring down a world of hurtin’ While reading this book. I loved everything about Batiste. I loved that the characters felt real and raw emotions. I loved that every time I read a book from Victoria Danann, that I am swept away on an adventure. This adventure was a bit rougher than some, but it was awesome just the same

In honor of the many French phrases in this book allow me to provide a badly written review in French:
I apologize for any mistakes I made bc I’m sure I made some.

1,5 étoiles heureux c'était gratuit. Je n'ai pas aimé ce livre. Je ne le recommanderais pas. une lecture si ennuyeuse

Now in English
Basically stick to the original sons series this spin-off was boring as fuck. 1.5 stars

WOW WOW WOW. This book made my heart pound really loud! I was on the edge of my seat. I had to shift many times also. Usually I just sit and read. It made me uncomfortable. Made my face flush as I was reading. It is so different, yet so Victoria Danann! I will not forget this book at all! I think it might by-pass Carnal. I highlighted a passage where I just said out loud, WOW!!! I wont put it on here so as not to give away any spoilers. You have to read the book to find out.
I wish I could give this book 20 stars! For me this is an award winning Book of the Year! I have read a lot of books this year also! I can not say enough good about this book! I just loved it! Even if you are not a fan you need to read this book and be taken out of your comfort zone for a bit. It does have a very romantic HEA. Thank you Victoria for giving me a place to go to forget my grief! Love you so much! From a Forever Fan... Pam James

First, the really good news: If you are not yet a Victoria Danann reader, now is your chance to join us because this is the very first book in a new series. If you want to enjoy it to its fullest, it would be good to read the Sons of Sanctuary series first but that probably isn't necessary since the SSMC plays a secondary role here... sort of.

I was not very far into this book before I knew that I could probably predict the way we were going though it turns out there was a new side to it. It is similar in the basic story line to some other books by this author, particularly the SSMC books. So if it is somewhat “predictable,” then why the 5 star rating? Here's why, in reverse order:

3-Goodreads doesn't have more than 5 stars.
2-It is another SSMC (sort of) book.
1-Victoria Danann is the author! That automatically qualifies it for all stars Amazon has.

About this book? I won't say much because you need to read it. My three favorite states of the 50, in order, are Mississippi/Texas, Texas/Mississippi, and Louisiana. This one is set in Louisiana (South Louisiana, which is really different from the rest) and Texas. And the author lives in South Texas so she isn't relying on research – she knows the area and people. This time she writes a romance story filled with action, local color and flavor, and her own, unique way of telling a story. If you have read anything at all from this author, you know what I mean and Batiste is more of the same in that regard only “just a little bit” better because Victoria Danann's story telling skills improve with every book... if that's even possible.

If you're looking for a fun little read, look elsewhere because this one had some real teeth to it... okay, probably not different from her other books but it looks at some things about a part of human behavior the is a little dark. However, it is NOT done in a distasteful manner, as disturbing as it may be to some. That's just a disclaimer for her, not a description. Personally I was not put off by anything here in the least except that the bad guy got his just desserts entirely too quickly in the end but then my ending really might have offended you. He deserved worse, much worse... but that's just me.

So that's why the book gets 5 stars. If Goodreads gives us more, I'll go back and increase my score because this one deserves it. If you haven't read the previous Sons of Sanctuary books, I still think you really should go back to book 1 and start from there, just so you'll have a better grasp of the characters in this one and you will enjoy it while you're catching up. A lot! If you don't want to go to that much pleasure, go ahead and buy this one because it can stand on it's own. Great news! More Victoria Danann stuff will be coming soon!

Friends as children, Angelique Bellefeuille always hoped she’d be living with Just Batiste . . . she just didn’t think it would be because she had a rival motorcycle gang with a grudge against her father trying to kidnap her. She’s not sure what to expect, but Just is all grown up now and President of his club. She can only hope he remembers his childhood promises to her.

When Angelique walks into his clubhouse, Just is brought to his knees by her beauty. Everything good from his childhood is suddenly right in front of him and he vows he will do anything to keep her safe. He can’t start something now, though. He can’t be districted from both keeping her safe at all costs or his new business venture with the SSMC.

When Angelique is kidnapped by the Stars and Bars after Just has sent her to the SSMC for safekeeping, he’s torn up by guilt and vows to do anything to bring her home safely at any cost, including tearing the rival club to pieces. Angelique nows in her heart that Just is coming for her . . . but will it be in time or will she feel ruined forever?

As a fan of Victoria Danann’s writing, I have to say that Batiste was the grittiest, darkest and rawest book she has ever written, but in the best of ways. While readers can tell this couple needs to be together, it’s certainly not going to be an easy love story. In their years since childhood they’ve moved towards different lifestyles, but from the moment they walk in the room together, sparks fly and their love and attraction are brought right back into the moment.

There is fantastic suspense as the Cajun Devils and SSMC work together to find where the Stars and Bars are hiding and from the moment Angelique was taken, my anxiety levels rose waiting to see if Just would be able to save her and how she would come back to him.

I refuse to give anything away in this book, but let’s say that Just is an amazing man and one of my favorite new characters from Victoria. The end of this book is completely unexpected and gorgeous and left me needing a box of tissues and feeling warm and fuzzy in a way I could have never imagined when I started the book. 5 stars.

Just Batiste and Angelique were friends as children. They both recognised that they ought to be together but he no longer believed they could grow together as a couple and drifted away, taking a different path, including marriage to someone else.

Batiste was born and raised in the MC life, he’s now the President of the Cajun Devil’s MC.

Angelique Bellefeuille is a gorgeous MC princess, the daughter to an allied chapter’s President. She’s had enough of bikers, because of her father's club, she’s been made a target and placed in danger.

Her father sent her to Batiste’s chapter for safety until he could contain the threat. She’s reunited with her childhood friend, Just Batiste. The last thing Batiste needs is a distraction from his new joint venture that could make his dreams come true.

She’s abducted, mentally tortured and sexually abused by the people he’s supposed to be protecting her from…in the aftermath, she locks herself off from everyone everything, refusing to engage.

Manatee her abductor was dealt with, spending centuries standing upright, like a fish food statue, at the bottom of the ocean. Even when there was nothing left but bones, he would serve as a sentry of warning to those who might think involving biker women in biker business might be a viable option.

He announced that he would never marry again. Then he realised he was being a fool, made a nice donation to the parish and the priest offered him a special dispensation.

They get married, live happily ever after and have two children. The End.

"Batiste" by Victoria Danann

My Thoughts.....

What a love story! This was a story that caught my interest from the very beginning and left me saying wow...that was some story!

I appreciated the warning that the author left for the readers because it was some mind blowing read however, very well presented in a way that one will not be able to forget this novel. Now, with that being said you will just have to pick up "Batiste" and read the book to find out what all this is about.

Moving on we find that this love story was about Batiste and Angeline who had been friends since childhood. With realizing that they should have been together...fate would not allow that so different paths were taken. However, the story will not end there because it seems like these twisted paths will lead them back together once again on quite a emotional roller coaster ride before their will be a HEA.

Now, be ready for a little bit of it all from such high emotions from 'love, fear, hurt, sadness, surprise and gratitude' in the brotherhood of the Cajun Devil biker world that this author presents so well to her readers where in the end be get a 'beautiful love story while exposing some ugly truths.'

Just Batiste

Just Batiste

When I know a new Victoria Dannan book is coming, I clear the decks. Find a comfy spot, make sure I have a cold beverage, maybe some chocolate, and settle in.

She warned us this was a darker book than her usual, so I got dark chocolate.  I fell in love with the Cajun Devils. I live in Texas, I love Louisiana Cajun Culture, they are our neighbors, she nailed my idea of backwoods down home Cajun. Some favorites from another series Sons of Sanctuary made an appearance. -remind me to re-read those again.- Oh, dark. Yes it was darker than her usual, not out of the realm of possibility, but way darker, which is scary how involved in the characters I get, I felt bad, like crying bad for some of the things. And triumphant for others.
She is good at pulling you in to her world. Her characters are not perfect people, they grow in the novel as you read it.

You can read this as a stand alone book, then go look for her others. Try this, it's like a snack candy bar (I think I am just hungry?) Its shorter than her usual I think. Only took an evening to finish. So you will have plenty of time for her other books. If you like this, I suggest Two Princes, to get more of the characters you meet in this book.

BAPTISTE is much darker than most of Victoria Danann's books. She did post this warning: WARNING: This is not your usual romance. This love story takes a turn toward dark, intense, and gritty subject matter, including sexual abuse, and may test your emotional limits.

This book certainly did test my limits. But that is not a bad thing. What it says about the aftermath of sexual abuse is so important. Often traumatic events occur in books and the characters go on as if nothing happened. What Angelique goes through is difficult to read, but Victoria makes you understand as well as feel her pain. It would be false to sugar coat it. We take the slow steps to a possible recovery with the character.

But this is also a love story. What would you risk for someone you loved? Batiste and Angelique were friends as children. Each seemed to realize even then that they should be together. Then Batiste drifted away and took a different path. But sometimes regardless how twisted our paths can be, they lead us back to where we should be.

As always, Victoria Danann has written a story that is impossible to put down. The characters are complex. You cannot help but care about them. The emotions are intense, raw, and very real.

Don't Mess With Us.

The beginning of a new series, Batiste is the President of the Cajun Devils. A spin-off of the Sons of Sanctuary, the Cajun Devils were using Brant's idea to bring legitimate businesses into their club. I highly suggest readers begin with book one, TWO PRINCES, reading each book in order. Although each book is a stand alone novel, it is very helpful to know where each character belongs.
Batiste believed he would only love his childhood friend, Angelique. Although many years had gone by, it came back to Batiste in a rush of memories upon hearing from her father Rou that someone tried to kidnap Angel after work. Requesting help, Batiste agreed to keep Angelique safe. But all is not well at either club. Stars & Bars planted a mole and no one is safe. Danaan pens a darker side of club wars gone wrong. Be aware triggers are a possibility. Read with care.

This is the start of hopefully a great new series by Victoria..
As Victoria warns at the beginning this is not your usual romance. This love story takes a turn toward dark, intense, and gritty subject matter, including sexual abuse, and could test your emotional limits.
Batiste is the President of the Cajun Devils motorcycle club in Lafayette Parish La. He receives a call from the President of the sister club, the Mandeville chapter..Rou would like him to protect his daughter Angelique..She and Batiste knew each other years ago as they were growing up..
Angelique doesn't want anything to do with the Cajun Devils..But when she is forced to move to their compound for her protection..
The sparks fly when they meet again...And this story takes a very dark turn.. I have to admit I cried..
Great new start to hopefully a long series..

Absolutely loved this spin off book from the SSMC series. I also cannot wait until the newest SSMC series book comes out. I have fallen in love with the characters of all the books. The desperation and love that comes through in this installment is amazing. Just Batiste and Angelique Bellefeuille, cannot forget what they meant to each other. They share a bond forged as children that has only grown stonger as adults, even with the time they have spent apart. So when her life is in danger, (SWOON) he steps in to protect her. But danger is something Batiste cannot outrun and she is taken hostage. Her stay at the hands of her captors is horrifying and no one can reach her once she is safely back in the protevtive embrace of her parents. I can relate because I am a survivor of sexual assault, so I know how Angelique feels.

Just & Angel’s story CDMC

Batiste #1 : I would say this book was as fun to read as the others, however, it was just as good. What struck me strongly was Batiste’s character and seeing him in such a human light and not bigger than life. To read about him going into shock and later in his carful way using love and patience to help Angelique heal. It really shows a mans character when he puts the well being and her need to feel safe and loved above his own desires for how he sees their relationship blossom. We have too many men out in the real world who thinks objectifying a women is sport and other deprivation acts is ok simply because they want to. Thank you Victoria Danann for tackling another tough issue and creating a truly exceptional work of art through your writing. Keep em coming!

A terrific story

This was a difficult story to read because of horrific situations (that undoubtedly could have been much worse), the emotional trauma and aspects of those situations, as well as the greed and evilness which was the cause of it all. It was a great story with lots of love, friendship, but most of all, loyalty.
It's certainly not a story that you want to miss.
I would definitely like to see more of this series in the near future. I would highly suggest that you read the Sons of Sanctuary MC series prior to this book. It's not entirely necessary, but you will get a chance to learn more about the backgrounds of each club, the members, and the aspects between the clubs. It's a fantastic series that you will enjoy.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and fantastic author.

Angelique “Angel’ Bellefeuille, and Devils Prez Just Batiste were childhood sweethearts. 15 years after their first kill, her dad, prez of an ally club, asked Batiste to watch over Angel while he worked out issues with a ruthless rival club. Angel had never moved on from Batiste but he’d since married and divorced, one look and he was deep in feelings for her again.

When Batiste began having problems with the same rival club, he decides sending Angel to a third club for her safety would be best and he’ll help her father rid the area of them and vows he’d be calling on her to pick up where they left off as teens. But Angel’s kidnapped in the middle of transport, both Batiste and dad are angry and heartbroken but work a scheme for her return and blasting the rival club into oblivion for daring to touch what’s theirs.

Being Cajun myself, my interest is piqued anytime I notice a book with Cajun characters. I really need to stop going there though. I’d have possibly enjoyed this book more had it not been for the overuse and misuse of Cajun vernacular and French words and phrases. I’m 51 y/o and I know very few people with actual French names, much less made up ones like “Cachet”—including my grandparents’ names! (I know cachét is a real word. It’s just not a real name. To normal people, anyway.) Even Cajuns who live in remote areas leave this areas and know about the world. We know there are people who are storytellers in Cajun Heritage museums. At least this author didn’t make Cajuns look like uneducated inbred idiots, so thank you for that.

Ah, the musical sound of Cajuns! While the dialogue in this book might have been difficult (or perhaps sounded condescending to some), it took me back to the years when I lived and worked down the bayou. The author did a great job of re-creating the way most Cajuns speak to each other - a language that truly takes time and translation to understand for those who were raised beyond the bayous. While the storyline could have been stronger, it was a manner to bring characters from multiple series together. It also showed something that is rare in motorcycle club stories - a leader who has some doubts in his decisions and is very much human. I very much enjoyed the book and felt that the main character had a lot of strength.

Just Batiste fell for Angelique when they were children and shared their first kiss. He promised they would be together. As they grew older, he married and divorced someone else. Fate bring them back into each other’s lives when a rival motorcycle club attempts to kidnap her. In efforts to keep her safe, she stays in his care until she is taken again while being transferred to more secure facility. She suffers greatly while held captive. Just suffers the love he lost again and doubts his abilities. Friendship, guidance and love has restorative properties that Just is able to accept from his club members and mentor and share with Angelique.

Great read

Well and truly a gripping read, it had me on the edge of my seat.
When a good friend asks Batiste of a favour he except's even knowing it'll mess with his heart and boy does this favour cost in more ways than one.
Angel finds herself in the worst possible situation praying it's all just a really bad dream.
This isn't one of the usual Victoria Danann book's it covers abuse mentally and physically, not many Authors get this situation and go overboard with details that make you not want to read on. I found it to be sad and upsetting in parts but i also read love amongst all the pain, well done Victoria.

Batiste by the outstanding author Victoria Danann is the first book in her brand new Cajun Devils MC Series.
Meet Just Batiste. He grew up in the MC world and now he´s the president of the Cajun Devils MC La Fayette Chapter.
Angelique is the MC princess os the sister club, and when she´s in danger Just is there to protect her. Angelique is a strong and feisty woman. She knows what she wants and has Just in knots pretty fast.
But danger follows her and Just will do everything to get her back and help her heal.

Batiste is a heart wrenching and emotional MC read. The story kept me at the edge of my seat from the start. I read the book in one sitting - I couldn´t put it down. The writing is excellent and the characters are simply great. I can´t say how much I love the book and can´t wait for the next installment in the series.

Batiste starts out mellow in the first few pages then dives right into an intense story of "lines you just don't cross." Victoria's storytelling puts you in a place where it feels as though you can fall right in with the biker club mentality. You want to get in there and help. You want that revenge to right the wrongs you feel have happened. You want it now and in an intense way. Batiste and Angel's almost life long building romance leaves you eager for a HEA. This is a very emotional, romantic, and suspense filled story.

Definitely a must read

When I’m about to read a new book from Victoria Danann I always have a huge sense of anticipation. Her stories never dissapointed and this one had me with a rollercoaster of emotions. As she stated, it’s a bit darker than normal. It started with a slow build then came all the action, drama and romance. The characters were as well written and relatable as always. This is the first book in a new series but can be read as a stand alone. There are also characters from the SSMC series in this book too. Can’t wait for the next book.

Words can not express the emotions this story brought out of me. The laughing, then cursing and crying, and last the whooping when justice is served. It's all packed into this book. I read a lot and if it's one thing that will keep me coming back for more it is books like this that bring you in like family and encircle you with their words. Victoria Danann is this author for me hands down with every story she brings out. I wish I could rate this book with infinite stars, it is absolutely worth it. I highly recommend it.

Love SSMC and the Devils are following in their foot steps.

I love the SSMC but the Devils needs a bit of help to work the links out. Just was a great character. You could read the emotions as he was going through stuff that would knock anyone on their honeys.

Ms. Samsung is very talented but I wonder why nothing was ever mentioned about Coon past chapter eight? It seemed incomplete, perhaps something will be in the next book I highly recommend reading, I really did enjoy it. Happy Reading!
