Craddock

When Victor and his paramour Anna stumble upon the abandoned town of Craddock, they discover a mysterious old oak with a pile large dried leaves nearby. The next night, Victor's uncle is found dead. He reads the man's journals to discover his grandfather was a witch and that his aunt was sacrificed to lift a curse. Victor and Anna return to Craddock to find the town isn't as abandoned as it seems.

A good, quick read.

Witches, an abandoned town and a creepy tree. A good quick read. I would be interested in reading a full length novel about Craddock.

Craddock was a weird story for me but I did love it. It reminds me of a historic movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. But it's not really like body snatchers. It's actually a witchy type book but set in a historical stting. It's quite a short book but it's really goid. I think everyone will like this little thriller. It's weird but good.

This short story had some real spooky elements in it: The oak tree, Florie, the witch, the deserted town, the mysterious grandfather. But the denouement was a bit quick for my taste. You won't regret reading that short story though!

Let me start with the disclaimer that typically, I neither read nor enjoy horror as a genre due solely to my own fragile constitution. However, I must say that Craddock might just have swayed my preference otherwise. This was a wonderfully eerie tale that found me mesmerized and riveted till the very end. Jerry Gerold is definitely a natural storyteller with an extraordinary flair for crafting stories in this genre. I can't wait to read more of this author's work!

I normally try to refrain from posting reviews on books by authors for whom I edit, but I couldn't resist this time. Technically, I read it before doing a second edit for him, so I decided to break my rule this time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It grabbed and held my attention throughout. The characters were lovable and the plot was engaging. Mr. Gerold has many good stories to tell. This one is definitely worth checking out. If you like stories that are a little on the weird and sometimes creepy side, you'll likely enjoy this author's work.

This was a relatively fast paced story, with good character building and an innovative storyline. Short, but all of the components needed, were there to make for an interesting, no cliff hanger, attention keeping, quick read! There were a few spelling and gramatical errors, but not enough to distract me from the story. I really appreciate when author's offer their stories (novels...) for free. Especially when they're as good as this one.

Craddock

A well written short story, Craddock pulls you in from the beginning and waste no time getting to the "root" of the matter. A great little tale. The only negative point, I think the timeframe should be established for those of us who tend to obsess about things like that. I spent way to much effort trying to figure that out. Aside from that, truly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more from Jerry Gerold.
