A train struck a man lying across the tracks, but the train didn’t kill him. The victim, a homeless vet, was already dead, murdered by a blow to the head. Tony Morrell, a detective on the small-town police force at Auburn, California, must unearth a motive for this bizarre action by the murderer if he ever hopes to solve the case.

As his case progresses, Tony must overcome his arrogant, dogmatic Chief in order to validate his suspicion that a serial killer is torturing and butchering local homeless victims. Little does he realize his journey of pursuit will require him to venture into the one dark place he has never been willing to go. What he finds there transcends his worst nightmare.

Meet Tony Morrell, a newly appointed Detective in a small California town. He's just been handed his first real case by his supervisor who doesn't seem to have much fondness or respect for him.

A man has been run over by a train, but the medical examiner says he was dead long before the train got him. When he's finally identified, Tony finds that the man was homeless, living in a shelter.

And then there's another gruesome killing ...another homeless man.

Tony needs to find the connection before anyone else is killed.

Tony is an older man, just shy of 60; newly married. He seems to be a plodder. There is little life in this character ... not a lot to hang onto. The story premise is okay, but there is little suspense and/or excitement. The murders are not described, they are only touched on after the fact.

There's a lot of technical explanations about railroads ... which is interesting enough. It was written in language I could understand, which was a bonus. Since Tony is leery of the internet, the long explanation of how the internet actually works found me turning a few pages without reading.

I'm sorry this one just didn't do it for me.

Many thanks to the author / Black Rose Writing / Netgalley for the digital copy of DEADLY VOYEUR. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

This book was okay. I figured out the bad guy pretty early but that didn't doesn't bother me. There was just something that kept me from becoming fully engrossed in this novel, and I kept putting it down to pick up other books.

I received via Goodreads first-reads program. Overall I did like the story and the characters and enjoyed reading it but there were parts that seemed redundant and there was something a little off about the character interaction to me. I saw that this was the second book which I did not realize, so maybe I was missing some background information. Still a good read, thank you!

Engrossing

This book was very well written with plenty of twists and turns. The characters are engaging and I have to say Wilkerson was a Lutz and forced a man to go outside the lines to do his job. Congrats to Tony for hanging in there and solving the case regardless of obstacles thrown at him.

Deadly Voyeur

Not my style of book. Using foul language as adjectives doesn't denote intelligence. I read a few pages but could not get interested. 👎

The flow, development of the characters, describe or persons and places made the story line real. I know this black sites.exist because I worked with pedophiles.

Somebody is killing the homeless in Auburn, CA, in horrifying ways. It's up to newly promoted Lieutenant Tony Morrell to find this sadistic murderer. He also has to do it while dealing with the police chief, who is definitely not the president of the Tony Morrell Fan Club.
.
This is the second novel in the Tony Morrell Thriller series. I have not read the first book, so the backstory to several of these characters was unknown to me. The plot was well-conceived, and the action was decently portrayed, albeit infrequently. This book was classified as a horror/thriller, but I would consider it more as a straight thriller. The horror only exists in the ways the homeless were killed, and the murder scenes themselves were never described as they happened. The dialogue seemed a bit formal, coming from Morrell talking to people he considered good friends. The overall premise of the book was interesting, but this book didn't quite deliver. Thank you too NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this novel.

An absolutely fantastic read with likeable characters. Tony was my favourite character. That was a shocker. Loved the ending.  5*.
