Gripping crime thriller with Mikky as the main character. As a photographer and artist she sees a lot. Now Mikky has to help find an artifact and return it. Impossible to put it down. Received a free copy. Reviewed because I loved it and am ready for more.
* I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest and freely given review.*
I love this series. I learn so much about the history and the culture regarding the item in each book. The title of each book so far tells you what type of culture item is involved. Yes I can be slow at times, just kind of got it.
I love that Mikky thinks she is maturing in this book and she says so herself, since I think the the same. The book is not as intense as Golden Icon was for me, due to the character growth done is this book. However it is still a phenomenal read. it is still fast moving and did not want to put it down.
I have an idea where the growth of Mikky is going to take her, but do not want to influence the the author or you in case it does not go where I think it will. I cannot wait for the next one and one after that in this series as a result. I really want to see where she goes. Mikky may have other ideas.
This might be book 3 in the series but I really recommend reading the first one, Golden Icon. It will help with the characters and past references. The book can be read as a standalone but you will miss the character growth and development in the story. Also why there are characters popping up and you are wondering why or what their importance is.
To Mikki de Santos, artist and photographer, a trip to the island of Rhodes to verify an ancient copy of the Torah is the perfect opportunity to get away from a commitment she's not ready to make.
She meets attractive Nikos Pavlides, who matches her own zest for life and adventure. But a series of disturbing events soon follows, not least of which are her encounters with young foreign girls who seem to be dependent on Nikos, and a strange scene with his sister Anna. Soon there's more at stake than a possible theft of a valuable antiquity, and Mikki finds herself confronting the most ruthless person she's yet had to deal with in her chequered career.
Mikki's a highly complex character, and the reader can never be quite sure of her motivations. She's full of surprises, and as good at getting herself out of trouble as she is at getting into it. I have read all three books in the series, and it's been fascinating to see how Mikki develops.
In this book, I also found the insight into a true psychopath interesting and extremely well done - charming, yet emotionally immature and utterly without conscience.
Once again, Janet Pywell has produced a winner, taking the reader deep into the darker side of the world of art and culture.
If I hadn’t gotten this book as part of a set, I probably wouldn’t have read it as most of the characters are fairly detestable. But this book really takes the cake. In an apparent effort to make the heroine seem like less of an awful human, the villain in this book is a human trafficker. When “heroine” tries to confront her, there is a VERY violent rape scene. She escapes and then goes back again where he drugs her and attempts to violently gang rape her. It was just chapters after chapters at the end of violent rape images. Oh, also, the villain started raping his sister when she was 8. And after all this, he probably won’t get in all that much trouble and the heroine goes home to pretend all is normal and have a baby with her boyfriend even though she is one of the most maladjusted characters I have ever read. Maybe see a therapist before continuing the cycle, huh? I will not be reading any more of these books. The mysteries are decent, but not enough to make up for the vile nature of every single character with any depth.

What a rollercoaster ride of a thriller! Mikky takes on a job to find a stolen Torah authenticate it. When she meets the family of the woman who was to deliver it to a museum, but was killed it an earthquake, the job takes on a more personal feeling. Mikky runs in to some unsavory characters and has to sort out who is trying to help and who is trying to hurt her. This book will grab you right away with lots of action all the way through. And when you think it is all over, there is more. The history of Rhodes is told throughout the book and is very interesting. This series is so good; thrilling stories but interesting history told in each book. Not a cozy. I received a free copy and voluntarily provided this review.
I really enjoyed this book, Mikky Dos Santos is a unique character, tattooed, prone to impulsive and sometimes self-destructive actions and riddled with self-doubts, but also loyal and with good intentions. This book is mainly set on the island of Rhodes, where Mikky attempts to track down a jewish scroll that has gone missing. I really liked that I was never quite sure who was on Mikky's side, and who was against her, this aspect certainly kept me turning the pages, and the climax was really thrilling, and then there is the twist on the final page to bring the book to a great ending. I received a review copy of the book, and have voluntarily written this honest review.
And the saga continues. Mikky is off on another adventure, this time to the island of Rhodes to follow the trail of a missing Torah scroll and deliver it to its rightful museum home. There is action and adventure on every page. The cast of intriguing and complex characters sweep you away into their world with a surprise on every page.
A great read from Janet, the third in a series starry Mikky - a hot headed, artist/photographer who isn't afraid to take on the world. Lots of crime, action and agony for Mikky but a bit of romance as well.
Mikky Santos is off to Greece to find and return a stolen Torah. Mikky meets a lot of people in Greece, but who can she believe or trust. You get some history in this novel. There are twists and turns with a surprise ending. A very good novel.
After an opening tragedy in Turkey Mikky dos Santos decides to go to Greece to look for and return a stolen 900 year old Torah. The first half of the book feels like a wonderful vacation for Mikky and myself as I enjoy the waters of the Greek Islands. I lounge on the yacht and enjoy the party, the restaurants and the company but Mikky feels something is off and it is. The second half of the book kicks into high gear as she put two and two together with Nikos. She fears for her life without knowing whom to trust. The suspense is high as is the danger, and where is the torah, who has it? I really liked Ms. Pywells third book in the series with Mikky dos Santos, kick ass, high strung heroine. Ms. Pywells' characters are well fleshed out and with each series there is a core group that continues from story to story. Mystery and Europe what's not to love.
Mikky does it again! I cannot get enough of this series. It is thrilling, emotionally and culturally intriguing and addresses social issues while keeping them in the context of the plot. Balanced, awesome pace and will keep you turning pages until the end.
This is the 3rd book in my Culture Crime Series. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. As an author I strive to entertain and make my novels authentic and enjoyable.
