Mia Hammond hates her job, but after her last career went down in flames, well, a girl needs to keep a roof over her head, right? When she finds out that her beloved Camp Falling Pines needs her help, she wonders if those burned bridges from her sports agent days can be rebuilt.
Aaron Stanek needs to turn his family’s expansion hockey team around quick, before they lose their sponsors and any hope of recruiting new talent. Except the players have no respect for him, and his father isn’t helping Aaron find his footing.
When Mia discovers her ex-boyfriend Aaron has a team desperately in need of positive press, it sounds like the perfect match…or it would be, if she didn’t have to work with Aaron, since he’s the reason her career tanked in the first place. Aaron blames himself for what happened—but in his heart, Mia is still the one who got away. They agree to keep their partnership strictly professional, but keeping their feelings in check is another thing entirely.
Book 4 in the Camp Falling Pines series. This can be read as a stand-alone. This is a multi-author series: Far From Falling by K.D. Garcia (novella), Breaking the Fall by Vanessa M. Knight, The Risk of Falling by K.D. Garcia, Falling Into Place by Stephanie Scott
Stephanie J. Scott writes light-hearted, quirky romance and young adult. She enjoys dance fitness, everything cats, and has a slight obsession with Instagram. A Midwest girl at heart, she resides outside of Chicago with her tech-of-all-trades husband and fuzzy furbabies.
I spend a lot of time on Instagram! @stephaniejaynebooks
If you want a sweet, second-chance romance, look no further. When Mia and Aaron broke up years ago, it wasn't just their relationship that ended—Mia's career tanked as well. A chance encounter brings him back into her life, just as she's trying to help her beloved childhood camp, and they agree to put their past behind them and work together on a purely professional level.
Just one problem. Neither of them stopped caring about the other. <3
While predictable at times, Scott's characters have depth and the story had enough unique twists and turns to keep a smile on my face.
Now I want to go back and read the other books in the series!
ONE INTRIGUING READ!!! If you're looking for a heartwarming, steady paced, easy to follow, smooth flowing read that captures your attention from the start. Congratulations my friends you've found it. With some twists and few surprises that keeps your mind sharp and imagination soaring. The characters and scenes were realistic and believable. I was mesmerized as I followed the characters along as their personalities transformed and blended. The two main characters faced issues that they had to work through which made this tale all the more realistic. The scenes were on point and intriguing. One read you can immerse yourself in and forget everything else. Stephanie did a remarkable job bringing this read together beautifully. Great job Stephanie and thanks for sharing.
This had a lot of heart and growth, and I ended up going back and reading it again (enjoyed it that much). Mia's and Aaron's unexpected meetup was perfect timing, as both of them was changing direction; where they were employed, what they were doing in their careers (and life), wasn't working anymore. Their past held familiarity, but they weren't friends anymore. That had to be rebuilt. I liked how the author allowed both of them to grow, including seeing some things differently, finding their backbone, and having conversations that needed to happen. Mia's standing up to 'tha snake' was satisfying, and walking away was powerful, insightful. Nice read.
Romance, Hockey and Summer Camp This is a novel length episode of the Falling Pines Summer Camp Romance Series. This episode focuses on a 30 year old former camp counselor and a second chance romance. The plot is good and tight. The story is sweet and clean. I have enjoyed this entire series. This episode has a different author, but you would never know it. A quality story from start to finish. I received this book (ARC) at no cost and chose to post my honest review.
Mia had the job of her dreams until she was forced out. Aaron was in a job that drove his blood pressure up but hoped it would gain his father's respect. They used to be a couple. This is a sweet second chance at romance story. There are hockey players who need to grow up, and a couple who have to learn what they want and the confidence to go for it. Good ending.
Second chance stories are one of my favorite books to read. I loved Aaron’s and Mia’s story and learning what torn them apart the first time. If you love reading about getting a second chance at Love, you should definitely grab this book.
Cute second chance romance. I don’t know if it counts as a “hockey” story when neither of them play hockey the entire book, but their romance was cute. He had a lot of frustrating maturing to do, and she had a lot of hesitations. They grew up a lot through out the story, so that was good.
I enjoyed the plot of this story. I did find it hard to get through as it felt repetitive and was one giant miscommunication/lack of communication. There is a lot of drama that has happened in the past that is not truly dealt with until the very end of the book in an abrupt manner. I wish the book would have had more with the past drama and less with the everyday of the camp.
I received a paperback copy from the author in exchange for a review on Amazon.
Overall, sweet story with great elements. I liked Mia’s heart for Camp Falling Pines. As a 20-something struggling to find her place in the world, Mia returns to the loves of her life — camp and Aaron. Both Aaron and Mia are searching for their path, trying to live up to unspoken standards and prove themselves in the world.
Aaron’s family dynamics and stressors beyond his control felt very real and relevant. He came from wealth but the moral of his story was money can’t buy happiness! And that sometimes you have to choose love over family loyalty.
The romance was inevitable and sweet, appropriately placed. I liked the friendships Mia had with counselors, past and current. At times I wanted more — like a section intrigued me but then moved on so quickly.
An easy read with some fun chapters and sections. In a few spots, I would love some more details, fewer short sentences, more research on hockey in the off season.
