I've lost count of how many times I've read this. Final essays, guys. Sometimes you need a 20-something page shot of happy. Anyway, since the final issue comes out this week (next week? - I heard the 30th, but now I'm hearing the 23rd, so...), I figured I'd put a few of my thoughts down.
First of all - and this has been bugging me for over a month now - why doesn't Damian take his cape off ? The drag on that thing has got to be massive. Like, I don't care how committed you are to your aesthetic, if you suddenly find yourself underwater you take off the damn cape.
The dynamic between Jon and Damian is what makes this series. One's idealistic and eager to help, and the other's a brilliant little s**t. I didn't read the first arc all that long ago, and the contrast between their relationship at the beginning of the series and now is startling. They still bicker non-stop (and it is still glorious), but the first time they faced Kid Amazo Superboy flew off, Robin kept going, and they both ran into trouble. This time, Robin's absolutely determined to go after Superboy. Character development.
I'm trying to work out what this terrible secret is that's supposed to come out by the end of this arc. Earlier in the series, Damian dropped some pretty heavy hints that Lois had asked him to train Jon and I figure that could cause some friction. That said, whatever this is sounds like it will be revealed by Kid Amazo. By the looks of things, he's about to get inside Jon's head so maybe it's something he knows?
For the first issue in the last arch of this series, it felt very bog standard to me. Not bad per say, everything just felt slightly weaker then normal, Robin and Superboy's banter, the way they deal with their foes, the league involvement, it all felt a bit off. I'm hoping Tomasi can pick it up in the next issue because I would honestly be real upset if this series went out on anything less then a bang.
It's quite upsetting to find out that Reggie died because Kid Amazo became a separate entity and went rogue. Damian and Superboy are in big trouble now. It's nice to see Cyborg helping Damian out, but in the meantime, the Justice League is having their energy drained by Kid Amazo. Have to wish the boys good luck for next issue.

Awesome chapter. Action-packed. It is the last arc of the series so they brought back the first villain and made him even more powerful and evil. Can't wait to see how the series concludes.
