I thought Melanie Shawn did a great job bringing Jade and Hayden's story to life. The book centered around her dating experiences but also focuses on two lovers who learn how to mend. I appreciated how the authors wrote about real life issues in a open and honest manner.

This couple dated in their youth when tragedy occurs. They both dealt with this loss in very different ways. Hayden choose to escape and joined the service, sharing his grief in love letters to Jade. Jade was to young to leave and had to face reality of adulthood much too soon.

The couple reconnect several years later but still need to take the time to heal. It wasn't an easy path for them but the laughter and tears kept me reading. I could have read more about these two. This was a couple I didn't want to leave.

I liked this book, but the ending wasn’t for me.

I really liked how even though this book was short, it didn’t feel like things were being skipped over. I did think that some things could have been shown in more detail or with more scenes.

I liked Hayden and Jade as characters, but I thought that their interactions didn’t show what their relationship is actually like. Jade is still angry at Hayden, but all of their interactions make it seem like they are still friends, even when they say things about how they won’t get back together.

I didn’t like how the reason for Jade and Hayden’s break up isn’t talked about, apart from at the very end when it’s mentioned and then almost instantly, it’s forgiven.

While I liked the writing, the story wasn’t really for me. The first book in this series seems to have a similar plotline so I don’t think I’m going to want to read it. I might try other longer books by this author.

A guy who runs away into a war zone risking to be killed rather than stay with you when you need him the most... yeah who wouldn't want a piece of that?!

This was a sexy, surprise release from these ladies and I loved it!! Jade is a strong heroine, who has a fun challenge set in this book. Reading about the happenings of each of these “challenges” had me cracking up, and cringing at outcome of some. Hayden is a veteran hero, and has this awesome idea for a program for rescue dogs and veterans who may face PTSD, and just need some canine companionship.

These two have a bit of a heartbreaking past together, and it was definitely a battle for them to find their HEA, but the journey was definitely worth it! A fantastic read that I would recommend!!

The couple: Hayden and Jade

Romance trope: second chance romance
Series: Wishing Well, Texas
Length: 191 pages

Plot: Hayden is back in town after an army career, and he's returned with PTSD, a service dog, and a plan to open a place that trains service animals for vets. People are happy to see him back, even if he's not quite ready for the hustle and bustle, but the one person he missed the most isn't as welcoming. Jade was his secret girlfriend years ago when they were in high school, but he tanked all of that when he hurriedly joined the army and left for good. Now that he's back, could this be the second chance they deserve? But wait - she's going on dates left and right, so maybe his chance is long gone.

Commentary: So this was another book with a young teen girl getting pregnant and dealing with it in secret with no help from her boyfriend. I'd hate to think this is a trend in this series.
That was all pretty awful - poor Jade was left alone to deal with a miscarriage. Hayden knew about it but basically got scared, enlisted in the army and took off. Now, he did write her letters, but she never read them because she was so mad. And then at the end of the book, she read them and took the blame for their broken relationship upon herself, because if only she had read the letters, she wouldn't have prolonged their separation, etc., etc. None of that made sense - he was in the army - he chose to go and didn't tell you when he was leaving and planned on making a career of it, meaning he wasn't coming back, so you being stuck there dealing with your miscarriage on your own? That had nothing to do with any letters. That was all down to a selfish, scared, teenage boy. And this is why teenagers shouldn't be having sex and babies.
I’d wasted years of my life hating him and I had no one to blame but myself. My own stupidity, or rather stubbornness, had caused me to put those letters in a drawer without tearing them open so many years ago, and now we were both paying the price and had been for a long time. How would I ever make that up to him? To myself?

Nor do the letters explain him being a jerk when he comes back, but I'm sure the heroine can find something else to blame that on other than the hero.

Grammar/formatting: needs more proofreading

Poignant, stunningly beautiful, emotional story that left me in a state of awe and a raw emotional mess.
Melanie Shawn writes steamy, sexy stories, that has plenty of humor, tight family connections, the best, most honest friendships, the kind of characters you want to fill your own life with. And the sexy times are as steamy as all get out, but even though the erotic heat is as high as possible, the emotional level goes as deep as you can imagine, balancing the stories, and at times, even breaking your heart.
Jade and Hayden got me good. The chemistry between them is sizzling, there is this amazing connection that goes all the way to their childhood. They understand each other, they get each other and balance each other ever since they were barely teenagers. But there is also the deep, consuming hurt, devastating losses of life, and heartbreak that shattered the soul.
Hayden's experiences in the military, the PTSD, the loss of friends and brothers in arms, the battle to survive the guilt, to find your place in the civilian life again, and to find his way to the one his heart has always loved, is a heartfelt struggle. I loved his honesty, his openness, his willingness to do the hard things, to do the work needed, and going the extra miles required to get where he wanted to be and with whom he wanted to share his future with.
Jade might come across as the fun-loving, directly speaking, no boundaries having, firecracker of a woman. Yet there are deep wounds in her heart, that never had the chance to properly heal, and Hayden being back at home, and now back in her life as well, is hurting more than she thought possible. The pain she knows from her past she has no desire to visit again, and if that means staying away from Hayden, so may it be.
I laughed, I smiled, I sighed, and I cried. Hayden and Jade's journey and their emotional struggles and burdens took me for a ride I didn't expect. But thankfully, there is healing, there is improvement, growth, and cure, with doses of medicine that had me even blushing, and feelings so deep, raw, honest, and sincere that went just directly to my heart. I still get emotional from all the feels in the tale while writing this review.
This is a must-read, absolutely a marvelous story you don't want to miss!

I'm so happy to have gotten to visit Wishing Well, Texas once again! This town with all sorts of great people is the setting for this engaging second chance romance.

Hayden Reed left Wishing Well as soon as he turned 18 to join the Army. While this had always been his plan, had had not chosen to share that nugget of information with one of the most important people in his life, his then girlfriend Jade O'Sullivan. Now that he's back in town, he's biding his time until he feels like it's been long enough to seek Jade out. He's also working on his new business venture, which is born out of the challenges he's faced since being injured in battle.

Jade O'Sullivan has just started a business of her own, and in order to get some much needed publicity, she enters into an agreement with her college roommate Vanessa to appear on her podcast after going on a series of six predetermined dates. She's on board to actually try to enjoy these dates until the man she has never fallen out of love with comes back into her life.

Will Hayden and Jade be able to overcome all of the hurt and the misunderstandings that manifested between them over the years? Or were their best years together the ones when they were teens?

The central theme in this book is second chances. I felt a connection to the characters and because of that, I was rooting for them to find their happily ever after. Hurt, anger and resentment can color so many things, but when you open your heart and your mind and begin to understand what others have been through, the revelations can be astounding and beautiful and that shined through for me in this book.

Kudos to Melanie Shawn for not making us wait for this one and for another fantastic addition to this series!

Whenever I pick up a book by Melanie Shawn, I know that it will be a winner. This one is no exception.
The story belongs to Jade O’Sullivan and Former Army Ranger Hayden Reed.
The history of these two during their teen years is a sweet one which later became heartbreaking . Making it more devastating when Hayden leaves to go to boot camp, and Jade is left heartbroken and desolated.
Fast forward 14 years, and now Hayden is back in Wishing Well, a changed man. He suffers from PTSD and thanks to his rescued and now service dog, he has a new life. Not only personally, but also professionally , since he plans to open a training center for rescued dogs and those in need of a service dog.
Jade, has become a successful business woman, but she too has not moved forward in love. As a means to help a friend and her podcast, Jade agrees to go out to six dates and report back to the podcaster.
Watching Jade and Hayden interact keeps the reader on their toes.
It’s a story about forgiveness, trusting someone who hurt you and risking it all for love. It’s also a reminder that many of the brave men and women who sacrifice themselves for our freedom, return not only with physical injuries, but also with psychological ones. PTSD being one of them. We as a society need to both thank them for their service and help them return to civilian life. Kudos for that reminder.
Another winner for these authors.
I was gifted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

WOW!! Words escape me in trying to describe how much I loved reading Unwrapping Jade by the amazing Melanie Shawn, the eighth book in their Wishing Well Texas series. Jade O’Sullivan has in a dilemma, how to stop caring, thinking and reacting to Hayden Reed since his return to Wishing Well a year ago. He was the boy next door, the one she always loved, the one she lied to her parents to in order to see, the one who loved her to the moon and back. But after enduring a life shattering event left her on his eighteenth birthday, without a word to enlist and basically told her they should break up. There is a fine line between love and hate and after being left behind Jade felt devastated and hatred toward Hayden. Now that he was back, Jade was totally confused. Hayden had never stopped thinking about Jade, nor did he ever stop loving Jade. After being back a year and giving Jade room to get used to his return, how was he going to make amends for the way he left her and convince he still loved her?

Through their amazing and vivid writing Melanie Shawn did an outstanding job tackling this second chance story with an emotional relationship. I enjoyed the way the authors wrote scenes showing the true feelings Jade and Hayden have for each other. Although this book is part of a series, it can also be read as a stand-alone. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next story in the Wishing Well series.

**Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**

"Unwrapping Jade" is written by Melanie Shawn, and it is the 8th book from the Wishing Well, Texas series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Hayden Reed and Jade O’Sullivan.

Hayden and Jade were high school sweethearts, but Hayden joined the army shortly after Jade miscarried, leaving her heartbroken. Several years later, Hayden is back in Wishing Well to get his life back on track. He is suffering PTSD due to an unfortunate incident overseas, but he's found his calling training rescue dogs as service dogs.

Hayden and Jade still have feelings for one another. When Hayden finds out Jade is going on dates for 6 weeks and telling her dating stories to a podcast, Hayden decides he needs to stay close. It doesn't hurt to interfere a little on the dates after all. He wants to make sure Jade is okay, and maybe, with him being in the vicinity, Jade's mind will be on him.

What will happen on Jade's dates? Will Hayden and Jade have their second chance at love?

I thought this was a sweet story! It was pretty amusing to read how Hayden would interfere in Jade's dates! Even their families got involved. One scene, in particular, was the dinner at the O'Sullivan's house and Jade reluctantly accepting Hayden's offer to drive her home since she just walked there. All of this gave me a good chuckle! Readers will definitely fall in love with Hayden and Jade!

Growing up as teenagers, Jade and Hayden were known to everyone as friends, but to each other they were more. They were inseparable. When Hayden turned 18, he joined the Army and left Jade behind thinking that it was the best thing for her. Jade refused to speak to Hayden once he left her when she was 16. Now, 15 years later, Hayden is back in Wishing Well, TX. He wants Jade back but she is still upset and wants nothing to do with him.
Jade agrees to go on 6 dates over 6 weeks with 6 different guys to help her college roommate, Vanessa with her podcast in exchange for some free advertising for her new business. Over the course of these 6 weeks, Jade learns more about herself and more about Hayden and how he has become the man he is today. Hayden and Jade need to come to terms with their past before they can move on and be happy.

This story was one about second chances. Through the entire story, I found myself rooting for these two to get past their mistakes from when they were teenagers and get their happily ever after. The way that these two characters were drawn to each other even when Jade didn't want to be drawn to him made me want them to work things out even more.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Unwrapping Jade is the eighth novel in the Wishing Well, Texas series by Melanie Shawn. One of my favorite things about this series is how even after not reading about Wishing Well for months the first page always brings you right back into it!

Jade O’Sullivan is Bryson’s little sister and just started a dating experiment for her college friend and roommates podcast. She will go on six dates over six weeks with six different guys. Jade has always been a fiercely independent woman, even has a teenager. So when her heart was broken at sixteen years old, she doesn’t really ever find it again. That is until the man that stole and broke her heart decides it’s time to make his move.

Hayden Reed is a former Army Ranger and has spent a good part of his life fighting for his country. He’s been home in Wishing Well for about a year and when he runs into Jade at her family’s bar’s Trivia Night, he decides he is done waiting and his going to make his move.

Can Hayden apologize and get Jade to forgive him? Will they be able to move forward together or has too much time and pain come to pass? Hayden may have more to discover about himself before giving any kind of explanation about the past to Jade.

I absolutely loved, Jade, Hayden and their story of forgiveness and moving forward. The story offers you real feelings that make the story that much more of an amazing read!

Jade and Hayden were childhood friends who became young adult secret lovers. Jade wasn’t able to date until she was 16, but their love burned hot before she reached dating age. Just before Jade’s 16th birthday, she suffered a miscarriage. No one knew about their relationship, so Jade had no one to share her pain with. A few weeks after her birthday, Hayden signed up for the rangers and left Jade feeling high and dry. Although Hayden sent Jade several letters, Jade refused to read them and for 14 years avoided Hayden. Hayden returned to Wishing Well after a military accident a broken man suffering from PTSD, yet Jade was still able to evade Hayden for a year before their paths crossed at a family dinner.

Hayden was starting a business for vets suffering from PTSD to acquire therapy dogs. He had found comfort in his dog Ranger and wanted to help others. Jade ran an events business and before dinner even started, Jade’s mother had set the business wheels in motion. Jade could no longer avoid Hayden or the magic spell he had cast on her.

This was a delightful story about love and redemption.

Nicely done, Melanie Shawn.

I loved this story, but I have loved all the Wishing Well stories! Jade and Hayden’s story is so good. They were the ideal girl next door falls in love with boy next door. Of course when you are young, you don’t always make the best decisions. Hayden left for the military the day he turned 18 without even talking to Jade after everything they went through. Hayden is back in town after being injured and losing his best friend. He has a therapy dog that he trained to help him with his PTSD. He is opening a center to train dogs to help vets. Hayden feels so bad about hurting Jade the way he did. He is still in love with her, but she won’t give him the time of day. It is a small town, so they are thrown together. It was so touching with what they go through together to get over their hurts. As always, I love catching up with some of the characters in previous books. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

Unwrapping Jade is the newest Wishing Well story. Jade & Hayden were teenage sweethearts. After Jade had an unexpected miscarriage, Hayden was scared it would happen again. The attraction between them was so strong, he didn't think they'd stay apart. He enlisted & surprised her with the news along with breaking up.

On the heels of a devastating miscarriage, being dumped by Hayden was the last straw! Jade was so mad she refused to read the letters he sent her from basic & while in the service. After he was released & returned home, she did her best to avoid him. Why did she still react when he was around.?

Wishing Well is a typical small town where everybody knows everyone else's business. It draws you in & you feel part of the residents. Hayden is a strong character with his own demons & regrets. Jade has to find a way to get over her hurt, anger & pride before she can give them a chance. The attraction between them jumps off the page. I enjoyed catching up with some familiar characters. Great story!!

You can’t go wrong with the Wishing Well series. As we’ve gotten to know Jade and Hayden a little from the past books, their story is now unraveled.

I like this series because of the focus on family, friends and community. Everyone is a little bit intertwined. They’re also funny and sexy as hell.

Jade and Hayden go way back to their teens. But when he leaves for the military without talking it out with her, she is beyond hurt. And add to that a horrible tragedy. Jade’s been carrying this hurt and pain for years when he returns to Wishing Well. But he is also carrying a lot of pain from combat and losing a buddy. They were first loves—can they find their way back to each other?

I am very much looking forward to the next installment of the Wishing Well series—Charming Cupid. The story of Cooper and Dr. Cupid is teased at the very end of Unwrapping Jade.

Unwrapping Jade is a beautiful sad but loving story. It’s emotional in a good way.
When you’re trying to figure out who your soul mate might be, who better than to think about than the one man you grew up loving, your “forever kiss”. You may have once been in love and think your over him but what happens when you finally give in to forgiveness and just let your heart follow its own path?
Hayden left many years ago to join the army. Unfortunately, he left behind that one woman he has always loved and will forever love. His Jade.
Jade and Hayden have been through a lot of things together, things from miscarriage, to breaking up, to feelings of hate and to realizing the love you thought were gone had never gone away at all.
I loved this story. And I love the dog rescue. PTSD is a serious issue and I loved how you portrayed it in this book and what you did for his character.

I adored this book!!
And I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
It is a touching, & sexy story.
Jade & Hayden, fell in love as teenagers.
After a tragedy occurred, life changed
for both, Jade & Hayden. Without much discussion, he inlisted in the army. Leaving Jade, broken, & heartsick.
Never wanting to see Hayden again.
Four tours later, Hayden, now a Ranger, returns home. He & Jade have not seen each other, in all these years. Wanting
to give her time, before they talked.
This story really pulled all my heartstrings. Will they finally have the chance they need,
& can they find a way to make it work,
even after all this time.
A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!!

Hayden and Jade were teenage sweethearts, in love with each other. But then Hayden leaves to join the army, breaking Jades heart in the process.
Now, 14years later he is back in Wishing well. He is suffering from PTSD and his dog Ranger has helped a lot with it. To help others he is opening a training center for dogs. Everything in life is going perfect, but still something is missing, Jade.
Jade owns an event planning and consulting business, and in exchange of free advertising she agrees to go on six dates for a podcast.
Unwrapping Jade is a great story. It was a heart wrenching and at the same time heart warming read. Hayden and Jade need to come to terms with their past before they can move forward, and I was rooting for them and couldn’t wait till they reunite.

This is the best kind of second chance romance that takes you on a thrilling roller-coaster ride of emotional thrills and heartbreak. A sweetly sexy, engaging and highly entertaining romantic journey in one of my favorite places Wishing Well, Texas.

Jade O'Sullivan and Hayden Reed have loved each other what seems like their whole lives. Years of separation over misunderstandings, meddling family and the hurt don't make for a happy reunion. They are both starting new business and looking to build a life in their home town, but will that life be together or apart? Loved this heartwarming and emotional journey.

Hayden returns to Wishing Well after several years in the Army. He plans to train dogs to help other veterans suffering from PTSD. He also wants to get back to life & reconnect with his past. Jade is still trying to move on with her life and build her career after Hayden suddenly left her to join the Army several years ago. She is trying to spotlight her even planning and consulting business by going on 6 dates in 6 weeks for a friends lifestyle blog! Can she continue to avoid Hayden and find someone who will finally help her move past him? Or does Hayden find a way to get back into Jade’s life? Second chance romances are among my favorites! I enjoyed these characters and the visit back to Wishing Well! A great read by one of my favorite authors.

I was SO excited to make the trip back to Wishing Well Texas. Even more excited to get Jade and Hayden’s story. Their 2nd chance was ridiculously sexy and full of so much emotion that I couldn’t put it down. Jade was one of my favorite type of heroines. She was strong, independent, sassy and full of life. Her heart was so broken when Hayden left, you couldn’t help but feel a bit broke for her. Hayden never let go of Jade. No matter how hard he tried. So when he came home, he gave her time to adjust then went after the woman he would always love. I swooned, cried, rooted for them and smiled the whole time. You don’t want to miss this book!

Happy reading!

I just love the Wishing Well Series. I think that Jade and Hayden just might be my new favorite couple in Wishing Well Texas. Jade was so well put together on the outside that you would never know how much she just wants to be loved by someone. Hayden is just so everything. He is my new book boyfriend. When you put Jade and Hayden together sparks fly and sometime not for the better. I loved this second chance romance. It was a real page turner. I absolutely loved this book. I love the small towns we get taken to by Melanie Shawn's books.
This is well written and gives insight into both the male and female characters of the book.

Jade and Hayden have a past that was painful for both of them. While Hayden deals with the trauma of being in the Army, Jade is dealing with the fact that Hayden left her at a vulnerable time for her.
Jade tries to keep Hayden at arms length while going on her dating experiment, but he breaks down her walls to help get to one super adorable happily ever after.
I am very much looking forward to the next one!
