Rate this book

Zeke is the older man. The richer man. The man who plans to give Korey the world.

As MMA’s Light Heavyweight champion, Zeke’s million-dollar matches and multi-million-dollar sponsorships have given him the freedom to do whatever he likes. It pleases him to spoil Korey. Before Zeke’s best friend Charlie was deployed two years ago, he made Zeke swear he’d care for his brother Korey if anything happened to him. When Charlie is killed by a roadside bomb, Zeke takes the young college student in, determined to give him everything he requires to succeed. He never expects to end up hoping he can keep Korey under more than his roof. He needs Korey beneath him.

If Korey had been in his right mind after Charlie’s death, he would’ve turned down Zeke’s offer. By the time he realizes his mistake, he’s already addicted to Zeke’s powerful presence. He never meant to end up dependent on the man’s smiles and hot glances. The money, Korey could live without. The man has him hooked. There’s only one problem—neither man wants to cross the line from friends to lovers, ruining what they have.

Sugar Fighter is a short introduction to a new series by Charity Parkerson, Sugar Daddies. This series will feature male/male May/December romances where the men are hot, rich, naughty, and don’t like to be told no.

Well that was disappointing. I wasn't expecting so much from it as it's a rather short book and is probably meant to be more of an introduction to the series. But somehow the tiny expectations I had for this book were also disappointed.
The two stars are for the spice, because the short sex scenes were good.
The idea of the story is also very good and honestly MMA fighters ... yummy.
But the writing style didn't do anything to me. I mean, I don't need something poetic in every book, but the texts shouldn't read like the summaries I write for my clients, so it should read like a story and not like a list of facts ... I don't know how else to describe it, here's an example:

Zeke Armstrong was the Light Heavyweight MMA champion. He had fourteen years on Korey, more money than Korey could ever dream of having, and no obvious interest in anything beyond fighting. Korey was nobody. He was a college student whose brother found him a place stay in a state where he knew no one. Living with Zeke was heaven and hell. Korey wanted him. It would never happen.

Then we're talking about sugar daddies here ... hmmm, shouldn't that also be a theme in the book, so Zeke is rich and Korey lives at his expense, but that's it, there's nothing else behind it. If it's titled like that, shouldn't there be at least a tiny bit of kink in it?
Well, I don't think this book whetted my appetite for the series, missed the mark ...

To say this is so short, it really packs a punch and I really enjoyed it.

It's the start of a new series which is focusing in on May to December romances, one of my favourite tropes.

Here we're in the world of Mixed Martial Arts with hot World Champion Zeke and the younger brother of his dead best friend who he promised to look after.

As I said, it's short but effective and seriously sexy. I'm looking forward to more in the series.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Sugar Fighter is the first book in the Sugar Daddies series. So far there are 16 books in the series and I believe they feature age-gap and are standalone each. This installment features Zeke, a rich older man who is taking care of his deceased friend’s young brother Korey. Zeke is the Light Heavyweight MMA champion, so this gives you an idea about his physique. He is gay and attracted to the much younger Korey but tries his best to remain as a father figure to him as he promised his best friend. But will he be able to do that? Will Korey accept it that way?

This is the first book I read by Charity Parkerson and I liked it a lot. The chemistry between the characters is really good. Of course, there are conflicts between the two but they know how to make things right so expect a happy ending. The sex scenes are beautiful and filled with love and lust. The ending is hot and will bring a smile to your face for sure. Keep in mind that the main feature here is a sugar daddy without any kinks or fetishes. So in case you are looking to read something kinkier you need to look somewhere else. This is more the romantic age-gap story with well-written erotic scenes. A very good start for a series. It has an awesome cover too.

This was a cute short read based on misunderstanding and fear of rejection. I liked the premise, the plot though not complicated at all appealed to me at the time of reading. Without it the book wouldn't have that little oomph that it needed to start the series. That way it gives indication of angst in the future books.

Zeke and Korey are so oblivious to their mutual feelings as only two people in love can be. Their closeness is apparent, their passion is almost too desperate but they still are in the fog. So a good Samaritan and mutual friend Maverick decides to help the couple along by stirring Zeke's possessive instincts. It both has positive results and messed up consequences as no one is brave enough to speak about their feelings out loud. So from then on it's drama but I loved it anyway! When those two are together they burn the sheets, but make me sigh when they finally confess their love. Two years is long enough, guys, thank you! They are happy, I am happy for them and moving on to the next book!

A little to OTT in the unnecessary “misunderstanding” department for my taste. It did make me roll my eyes excessively. I also think the characters overreacted very dramatically.

Taking into consideration that this is a short-read I decided to give it a try anyhow. I need the distraction, (Wolfsong and all that).

I like the idea behind it and I’m going to read the next one in line to give it a fair chance. I think if this book was longer the characters would have had a better chance at making the reader “understand” or get to know them.

For me, unfortunately, the length of this book worked against it.

This was a good, short and succinct start to this series, Zeke and Korey are the touchstones on which the characters of the Sugar Daddies series lean on. This was not so much a Daddy story as a straight up love story. Zeke took in Korey after his entire family passed as a promise to Korey's dead brother. They've been in love with each other for years and the time is just about right for them to face up to it. Silly miscommunication was had as a drama note. But it worked well to get the story going. In the end, they are perfect for each other.

Plus, first glimpse at the figurehead for this and the entire Kings of the East series (and then some). Zander.
I've already read all of the future books so for me this is a time capsule where I get to see Zander's story first hand. (in the next book).

This was a nice quickie, helping me get out of my book-funk. There wasn't a lot of character development but I thought there was enough background info to get into their story. Zeke and Korey were sweet together, but it was kind of aggravating the way that everything played out. Maverick seemed like an interesting character and I like the chapter from his POV, I'm sure it was meant to get everyone interested in his story, and it definitely worked on me. Lol!

This was a pretty good start to a series. Yeah, it had some issues and was way too short to delve too deeply into these two guys complicated history, but I do love a growly, alpha mma fighter, and Zeke fits the bill.
For those interested...this has no daddy kink. Just a regular old age-gap. :)
Next one's out soon on KU.

Quick, easy and sexy

This was short, but we still got to see a lot of the characters. And I actually really enjoyed it.

It’s a M/M romance between Zeke and Korey. Zeke is a World Champion in Mixed Martial Arts and Korey is Zeke’s dead best friends, little brother. They been living together since Korey brother died in war.

This is book is a short introduction into Charitys next book, Sugar Daddy, and I can definitely see myself pick that one up soon.

Overall thoughts: This was quick and very easy to read. But even though it was short, it packed a lot of punch and the sex scenes was so good!

Steamy Eighth romance

Another case of hidden feelings. Two people afraid of losing their current friendship. Zeke told Charlie he would look after Kori well he sure did that and plenty more.

This is my first read by this author, and it most definitely won't be my last.

This is a short book, but I didn't find it lacking.

Short, sweet, and full of sexy fun times.

Now onto the next.

I know it's only an introduction to the series, but it still felt far too short for me. I finished the book barely knowing anything about the characters that wasn't stated in the blurb, and I had no sense of attachment to their relationship at all.

The writing was also choppy. Every sentence felt so short. Barely any complex sentences. Just like this. My goodness, it was sort of the simplistic writing that I can't stand, and the entire story could've used more conjunctions and complex sentences. There was no sense of flow in the writing at all.

Regardless - I'm curious enough that I'll probably check out the rest of the series. I may or may not be masochistic.

DNF. This is probably a strong case of it's me, not the book but I just couldn't get into it. Once I got to the habitual lapsitting part I just knew that I was not going to be able to get into them as friends with long denied feelings.

A short, sweet, hawt intro to the series. Well written. I enjoyed. Note that there is no Daddy kink here. Even the sugar daddy angle is kind of just on the periphery. Yes, Zeke is wealthy and pays all the bills, and Korey is a college student who lives with him due to his deceased brother's friendship with Zeke, but there is no real spoiling, and the money angle isn't used as a central part of the romance. The title of 'sugar daddy' is misleading IMO.

I also agree with the reviewer who said that Korey's practice of sitting in Zeke's lap while he read was just fantastical. They're grown men...yet they did this and didn't know there was an attraction??

I'm very much looking forward to Book 2! Hopefully there is more of the sugar and/or Daddy angle since the book will most likely be longer. It's weird to have a sugar daddy series that is NOT on my Daddy kink or even my sugar daddy shelf. Really, it's just an m/m romance where one has alot of money. 3.5*

Book: Sugar Fighter

Author: Charity Parkerson
Genre: Romance, MM
Main Characters: Zeke and Korey

Age recommendation: 18-30+ Years
My feelings:

Ok so I grabbed this on stuff your kindle day. I also grabbed the audio cause I love me some steamy audio.

“Zeke knew Korey was uncomfortable with how dependent he was on Zeke. The thing was, it was all intentional on Zeke’s part. He’d purposely overtaken Korey’s life. Korey was the only person Zeke couldn’t live without.”

What I didn't realise was this is a MM book. This of course didn't leave me disappointed at all. The steam in this is delish! I just wasn’t expecting it to MM. (Totally still would have grabbed it anyway)

“one day soon, Korey would find himself tied to Zeke for life with no clue how it happened. Zeke would know. He planned it that way.”

This book follows a young man who is in love with his brothers Best Friend, and lives with him while he is studying at uni. What he doesn’t know is that Zeke is also in love with him, but to scared to make a move on him cause of the best friend code. But with his brother having passed away, the friend code is invalid. And Korey makes a move.

“Before Zeke, Korey hadn’t known a person could die a little every day from loving and craving someone unrequited.”

Then end up having sex but then it gets super complicated and they fall apart for a few days. Zeke follows Korey after he runs away, and explains to him that he loves him and they have a HEA.

“No shit, Zeke. You think I don’t know that? I’m the one who sat around here for two years, waiting for you to notice I fucking love you, while you were wishing I’d figure out I’m a goddamn burden. Tell me what you want because I can’t pretend anymore. I want to be with someone who wants me too. I don’t want to be someone’s mistake.”

This is a super short story with plenty of steam and drama.

“You’re hurting me right now. Leaving wasn’t part of our deal,” Zeke said, his voice turning harder by the second. “You were supposed to stay. I was supposed to retire and spend my days bragging about my sexy husband the doctor.”

Highly recommend.

Sugar Fighter is a pretty quick read and a good introduction to this series. It does have a bit of angst going on, and the main characters of Zeke and Korey are definitely flawed, but this story gives readers a good taste of the May/December romance dynamic even if it did leave me wanting more about both Zeke and Korey.

Zeke is the older, successful one of this pairing, and though he’s attracted to Korey he has held himself back from acting on it since he’s in the position of taking care of Korey at the request of Korey’s late brother. Korey is just as attracted to Zeke, but also hasn’t acted on it yet. You know it’s just a matter of time until they both cave; but once they do that’s when the angst and tension sets in.

I did get a little frustrated with both of them once they finally gave in to each other, each for different reasons (though I’m going to have to leave that as a tease because if I don’t, it will be a spoiler), they both did respond to each other a bit more extremely than I would have expected (hence my frustration).

Even so, I was still very happy with how the story ended. And though with shorter books like this one I always clamor for more—I’m a greedy reader when it comes to short stories and novellas and always want the authors to expand on them—the author does do a good job of telling a full story in this shorter length book. My interest was also piqued for Maverick’s story (a supporting character here), so I can’t wait to get started on the rest of the series.

Sugar Fighter gets 4 stars from me, and I’d recommend this book for anyone who likes age-gap M/M romance. This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Hmmm, hot older guy and the younger brother of his best friend from the army who had passed…. Sounds good right? I thought so too!

So, first, we have Korey, who when he lost his brother, he lost the last person he had. Having moved to a new state where he didn’t know anyone just before, he was surprised that his brother’s best friend Zeke stepped up and offered him a place to stay so he could continue school…..He had plenty of money and plenty of room, and he’d promised to look after Charlie’s little brother.

Zeke was a professional MMA fighter and a good one at that. He had more money than he knew what to do with, so it allowed him to take care of Korey; and he loved doing it. He had feelings for Korey and wanted to be the one that he relied on. Korey was in the same boat, but never imagined Zeke would return his feelings.

That was, until hiding their feelings was too much on both of them and they finally gave into each other. Should’ve been great, right? But of course it wouldn’t be that easy…. Zeke reacted badly and Korey got his feelings hurt, and the more Zeke messed up, the more he didn’t know how to fix it.

I really felt for Korey, who hasn’t had that one unrequited love? It’s the most painful feeling to know that your heart is with someone and then them not feel the same way. Of course, Zeke did, but it took a while for him to admit it to not only himself but to Korey.

With the help of Maverick, though…. They got there. Overall, it was a short and sweet read… I’m looking forward to Maverick’s story… he deserves someone amazing. I have a feeling his story will be just as bittersweet.

4 stars from me!

The Blogger Girls

I am not normally a reader of short novellas, nor of May-December romances, however Sugar Fighter called to me. I do love the idea of an MMA fighter being the older guy. When I think age-difference, I normally think gray haired men vs no haired boys, but this was so not that. Zeke is in his 30s, fit, hot, gorgeous, and kind. He took his vow to his best friend, Charlie, seriously and went after Korey to help take care of him (after his brother Charlie died). Korey is a medical school student who has been silently in love with his benefactor. What he doesn’t realize is that Zeke has been silently in love with him, too.

Like I said, this is a short story, one that can be read in one sitting, but the relationship between Zeke and Korey was easily portrayed. I felt nothing was missing or left on the table. It could have easily been turned into a full length novel, but it was a nice ice-breaker on what is in store with this series. For me, it worked. It is nice to get a pretty well-fleshed out short story sometimes without wallowing in the angst and misery. Yes, Zeke and Korey have a moment of discontent, but it was resolved quickly and I ended this story well satisfied.

Overall Impression: I really liked it!

Super quick intro to a new series - left me wanting the next book now!! This story focuses on Korey, a college student with no family, and Zeke, a millionaire MMA fighter significantly older than Korey. When Korey’s brother died, Zeke agreed to look out for him until he finished medical school -- though he never planned to fall in love.

Korey is tired of fighting his feelings for the fighter and the story makes the reader examine life and what we choose to do with our time - at least it did for me.

This quick read really worked a lot into a few pages and I enjoyed meeting both of these guys and really can’t wait for Maverick’s story.

Sugar Fighter is a quick, enjoyable, and hot m/m read. The two main guys already know (and have feelings for) each other, so nothing feeling rushed or insta. Just a steamy read that also gives a quick look into the next couple, which I'm definitely interested in reading! I'd recommend to m/m romance fans who like the older man/younger man trope (although I'm not sure that was played on much here) and looking for a fun way to spend a couple hours that won't leave you stressed. It is complete and can standalone.

I didn't really care for this one. This book did not draw me into wanting to read this series at all. In fact, it had the opposite effect. Maybe it was because these two characters had way too much in their past, and between them to try and make it work in 78 pages. I had a hard time believing their connection at all.

I'm still undecided if I'm going to continue with this series or not.

I'm intrigued about book 2 from the hot little interaction between Maverick and Zander in the bar, but I don't feel compelled to read it right now. Throwing it onto Mount TBR and we'll see how long it takes to get back to it... Anyway, Zeke and Korey were entertaining, but not really setting my world on fire.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This is a sweet and steamy short story. MMA champion Zeke was honoring his fallen comrade’s wishes when he took his younger brother in and became his unofficial guardian. Over the years since Charlie’s death, Zeke and Korey have carved out a slightly unconventional life together and their relationship has become something that neither man fully understands.

For such a short story, the storyline is surprisingly complex and the chemistry between Zeke and Korey is electric. As a reader, I can get a bit squeamish about Daddy stories but this one is pitched just right. The age gap isn’t too crazy and Korey easily holds his own in the relationship. I like the way Zeke’s physical power is complemented by Korey’s intellect. I liked both men and I loved the sexy scenes.

I liked this short about roomies living together in a GIANT house and yet not recognizing their feelings! Or rather, they know their feelings for the other but are fearful about acting upon them. Men! (When they're clueless they're dumb as rocks.) Sex scenes were HOT!!
