Buried in Lies

Rate this book
His lips told me he knew me.
His hands touched like we were old lovers.
His eyes held secrets of a past I’d never known.
I was lost, you see.
Lost as the flowers that grew in the meadow.
The devil told me he knew me.
But lies had a way of unraveling, even if we didn’t want them to.
The devil had a trick, for his love was full of acid. Acid that burned at every touch, every linger, and I let it scorch me to my core.
A devil made you sin. And my devil was the worst.
But now that devil wanted my last kiss, and it wasn't one I was willing to give.
He could take the acid and leave the burn behind.
I was keeping my heart even if I died trying.

Interesting storyline, compelling character development,
great heroine who acts like naive lamb, hiding her inner lion perfectly, confused, broken but charismatic hero!
Don’t forget Taj, deceiving, dangerous but alluring character. And of course our irritating, disturbing woman villain who is also sister of our hero!

A suspenseful, dark, raw, gritty read which had me devouring the pages like a blood thirsty vampire seeking blood.

BURIED IN LIES: Is a full length standalone dark novel by T.L. Smith. In two parts, flits from past to present effortlessly.

This isn’t a fairy tale with fluffy cats and farting unicorns sprinkling glitter onto the pages, because nothing and I mean nothing can really prepare you for this book, yes it’s dark, it’s gritty and pretty much as fucked up as one can get, it’s gory and many times I’d be sitting there wondering what the hell I was reading but by that stage the author had gotten her claws into me and I was hooked.

So onto the story we go though I’m not going to write this review up how I would normally because you NEED to go into this book BLIND.

This surrounds three characters: Jaya (Mouse), Syler Hunter (Wolf) and his sister Toska.

Run little Mouse

All three broken beyond repair, dark black souls that call to each other in their own way. One more broken than the other.

Syler has many layers, a brilliant computer hacker a man who welds a machete who doesn’t like to be touched. He will do anything for his sister, he’ll not only protect her but maybe just maybe he might even kill for her.

She’s a bad apple, and he’s a puppet that she controls

Toska likes to play and by playing that involves blood, lots and lots of blood.

Jaya the daughter of a CSI agent, she’s just as broken as the two siblings, losing a mother to a tragic event left her just as damaged as them.

This book was cray cray CRAZY I feel like I've had a trip on a looney train do not pass go straight to the looney bin for you, this book drained the crap out of me, if there is a way to get whiplash sitting on a couch reading a book then I have that symptom. I should've known what this author was capable of before I went in but nothing could prepare me for what I encountered within the pages. Such a cuckoo unique un-put-downable read!!

3.75 "The Dog, The Mouse, The Wolf Stars"

Have you ever stood in the middle of a storm?
Felt its power?
The high you got from it?
That was how I met Syler Hunter.
He was unforeseen…

***
"Be careful, Jaya. Those who play in the dark carry handfuls of acid ready to eat away at your heart."
***
"To fall for the madman you must first taste the devil."
***
"I’m the big bad wolf. It’s me you need protection from."
***
He was like my poison chalice. Because I knew drinking from him one day would kill me. Yet, I still didn’t run. Instead I drank heavily from that chalice. What a fool I was.
***
"He calls you Mouse, but how far can you run when the dog is chasing you. Because I am the dog that catches that cat. Can you imagine what I will do to the Mouse?"

It was my first read by this author and won’t be my last! It’s well-written and a bit fast-paced. Told in dual POV (mostly in single pov), 1st person. It’s a standalone, dark (but not really that Dark) romance. Overall, I enjoyed it and hope you like it as well!

"A devil made you sin. And my devil was the worst"

Holy shit and Oh My God was all I could think while closing the book. (I know I have to re-write some parts of this review before putting it on amazon). Well, actually I closed my kindle HAHA but anyway. Let me say this first: Going for this book, be prepared for a hell ride you won't be prepared for. No matter how many reviews you might end up reading.

"I needed him more than I needed my next breath. He was hypnotizing. He was my storm."

I somehow KNEW that I wouldn't be able to put this book down. Yet I started reading it pretty late, ending up in my bed reading, eyes glued to the pages until 2am. This is one of the books where you keep thinking "only one more chapter" over and over again until it's finished. A page turner incomparable!

""Because, baby girl, to fall for the madman, you mus first taste the devil.""

So far T.L. Smith is one of the only authors I have no problem reading dark romance books with fucked-up characters. The last book I ended up loving so much was Lotus. And I can honestly say Buried in Lies at least reached the bar that Lotus has set.
I love those weird minds which aren't normal. No they are far far away from normal. And I know that those characters are way no standard for real life, nor are their fucked-up relationships. They are toxic and unhealthy and no way I would approve in real life. But hey, this is fiction par excellence, and I love it!

""I'm the big bad wolf. It's me you need protection from.""

Written in the the heroines POV we are within the head of the less fucked-up character. But that's no bad thing. It's refreshing. However, Jaya is still a broken and troubled characters pulled into the dark webs of a sick game by the she-devil herself, Toska. More importantly this game made Jaya the mouse to the wolf, Slyer. The mysterious man, sick, haunted and captured in the claws of his sister Toska and their past.

"He was my poison chalice. Because I knew drinking from him one day would kill me."

""You'll always be mine, Mouse, even when you aren't.""

The suspense in this book is thick and almost unbearable. That is what keeps you turning the pages until the end. Buried in Lies is spiced with highly complex and well created characters, twisted mind games and manipulation top-level. It's so beautifully full of darkness that it will blow your mind.

"I'd just given my soul to my own devil, and he took it with a kiss from my lips."

The attraction between Syler and Jaya is something from another star. They are drawn to each other like the moth to the light. As you as a reader will be drawn to them. It's addictive and you know it's wrong but you can't stop. Addiction is never good, never healthy. But you won't give a fuck.

""I'm full stopping it, Wolf! Before I fall deeper down a rabbit hole where I cannot escape." "I'll chase you, Mouse, right down that rabbit hole.""

I need to stop here, otherwise I will give away too much. You need to go on that perfectly dark and unique ride on your own. Keep your seat belt fastened because this ride will shake you to the bones.

"It took me losing her to see what I had."

"She's all my moments."

"He steals my kisses just the same way he stole my heart, in pieces then all at once."

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This book was DARK and TWISTED AF! I do not do Dark Romances. My anxiety cant handle it and yet I couldnt stay away from this story. I was too weak to fight the pull 😫It gripped me from the start! I found myself pulling my hair and chewing my nails and sometimes doing both at the same time cause my emotions were all over the place. This story is a complete mind fuck and I loved every minute of it. My name is Kelly and im addicted to the wolf they call Syler. I was immeditely drawn to him and even though he was as fucked up as a person could get, I wanted him anyways 😈 I dont want to spoil anything and I was glad I went into this book blind. which is what I recommend you do. This author is a genius and I may be a lil scared of how her mind works but like a moth to a flame, I cant stay away. She's so damn sweet and just when I thought she would wrap up the story with some sugar(finally) she went and fucked it all up by keeping the ending crazy. And thats exactly how I would describe this story. CRAZY!!!

“ It took me almost dying more than once for you to choose me. That isn't healthy, none of this is. We aren't good for each other. We'll keep on burning, until there's nothing left. ”

Nessuno.

Ma Syler dovrà fare una scelta. O la sua Mouse, o sua sorella.

“ A devil made you sin. And my devil was the worst. ”

{The Mouse didn’t stray from the Wolf. No, she stayed with the Wolf.}
-
This book was a new kind of dark for me..the mystery, the anticipation of finding truths, the craziness that the character oozes and the lies that were told.. was nothing but in all a compelling and captivating story.
-
{my devil was stronger. For him, I couldn’t forgive. For him, I was going to punish.}
-
Jaya and Skyler were not your normal kind of couple.. they lived in a twisted kind of reality, but the chemistry they shared was charged with uncertain craziness, it was bewitching.
-
{If our hearts hadn’t already been stolen, I could have wanted more, but selfless people stole them from us.}
-
Love n Hate, Lies nTruth all were wrapped in one story and delivered to You. T. L. Smith have flawlessly written a story that is unique and sensual.
-
{To be loved by Syler Hunter was in a book of fiction. Because a man with no heart wasn’t capable of love.}
-
Their Love was Dysfunctional, it was Chaotic. Bounded by their situations and the people they were surrounded. It was impossible for them as it was doomed from the start.
-
{ I don’t feel hopeful, I feel broken and in need of escape.}
-
The best part of this book were the side characters. They played an integral part and their personality riveted a startling and enticing turn of events that lured the Darkness.
-
{"Because, baby girl, to fall for the madman you must first taste the devil .” Her words made no sense.}
-
In all If you love something dark, different and love to get lost in a world of crazy delusions, then Buried In Lies is IT! for you.

I really enjoyed this one, the writing was very nice, the characters were written nicely as well.
It wasn't really dark though but It still worked.
My main issue is that I wanted more to see of Jaya and Sylar, like more chemistry and the romance blooming those moments. It was quite ffast paced and even the ending felt rushed.
Still i enjoyed it mainly the plot and the writing made it work.

Look I am not going to hide the fact that I am a HUGE fan of T.L. Smith and that I have read everything that she has ever written, because quite simply I absolutely adore her and her writing hand. So I knew, I just knew when Buried In Lies fell into my kindle I was in for the ride of my life. I knew the queen of darkness (yes T.L.) was going to again blow my mind once again.

But without using any profanities because lets face it I seriously want too but I know I can't, I cannot believe that T.L could possibly top twisted and dark like she has in this novel.

People this is not for the feint hearted. This story is sinfully twisted, edgy, dark and a serious case of mind manipulation. It astounds me how a novel can completely consume your soul with so much darkness, grit and broken all-consuming love with every page turned.

In this novel you will meet Jaya, Syler and Toska.
Each unique
Each broken.
Each with black hearts.
So you can only imagine what happens when three broken souls get together.
What havoc will they create?
What secrets will be revealed?
Who will fall into a love that's like acid in your veins?
Who will bleed?
Who will live?
Who will find their ending?

A story that needs to be read with a no spoiler review.
A story that needs to be read without any knowledge of what is contained within the pages.
A story that needs to be read because lets face it.....Darkness is beautiful.

5 stars.

Looking for something a little different? How about a lovers to enemies dark romance? USA Today bestselling author T.L. Smith has written an exceptionally dark tale about friends, lovers, enemies, hatred, and lies. Buried in Lies is not for those that are looking for a happy ever after filled with rainbows and butterflies.

Jaya Elmor’s closest friend is her coworker Toska Hunter, and they are merely acquaintances. Then Jaya’s eyes land on the mysterious Syler Hunter and everything changes. She finds herself immersed in a deadly game of cat and mouse, unable to trust anyone, especially not the one she loves.

“Don’t fall in love with me, Mouse.”
I nodded my head. “I don’t plan to, Wolf.”

What was that? Wow, that was so unexpected and different from anything that I have read before. This is one of those reads where you need to stick it out until the end to have the complete understanding and enjoyment of the book.

“Not everything is instant. Sometimes you have to lose to win.”

Jaya is freaking awesome. I loved her. She grows so much throughout and becomes an amazing, strong, fearless woman. She doesn’t take anything from anyone. Whether you’re her best friend or her lover, don’t mistake her quiet nature for docile.

Toska and Syler, I went back and forth between hating them, liking them, hating one then the other; they were a labyrinth of lies that I didn’t have figured out until the end. Both are dangerous and terrifying, but Toska is someone that creeps me out beyond belief.

He steals my kisses just the same way he stole my heart, in pieces then all at once.

A well-written and engaging story that drew me. I just had to find out what was happening. If you like to have your world turned sideways, this is the one for you.

Strange, absurd, brutal and bloody but still a love story in a triangle that you do not even know it is.
A lot of things are unexplained, but nevertheless a good reading.

This is book is brilliant, jammed packed with WTF moments that leave you with your mouth gapping and are at a total loss for words at what you have just read. This is all completely typical when you read a book by TL Smith but she just seems to go that step further with every book.

The story is unique, if I can call it this but yes a little quirky, and most defintely a total and utter mind fuck. The main characters are some of which I have never read before. Jaya, Sylar and Toska are just something else. Their twisted relationships are intense, heated and just damn right toxic.

In saying all this crazy stuff there is a beautiful if not tainted love story that runs through this whole book. No just a present one but one that runs in the past too. So although you get all the crazy you get the beautiful too.

This clever crafted book is a huge recommend from me as we all need a little twisted in our lives from time to time. And no one seems to deliver it any better than this. You will be hooked from the off and wondering what, where and how. But what a fun journey it is.

“Those who play in the dark carry handfuls of acid ready to eat away at your heart.”

Attraction, addiction, a need so compulsive that you know it might kill you but you just can’t resist temptation... one look was all it took for his green eyes to capture her, to taunt her with everything she ever dreamed of. A willing pawn in their game, lost to the sensations and strangely addicted to the burn Jaya is not blind to the consequences, and decides its time to fight, this time she is no longer the prey...

Buried in lies is a story of blackened hearts, that are too damaged to love in a conventional sense yet hunger for warped and tainted love. Acts of violence prove that love, death and blood equates to affection in their twisted reality. Jaya is drawn in by her addiction to Syler, the brother of her work colleague Toska. Needing to feed her addiction to him by just being in his proximity Jaya accepts the offer of friendship from Toska although her instincts scream for her to run... and so begins a dark romance as the fall deeper under each other’s spells, weaving a web of deceit and lies that slowly begins to unfurl.

This story caused a cavalcade of emotions, the characters are dark but so easy to fall in love with even Toska has her moments where your heart breaks for her. Devils are sometimes made, created by other devils in their likeness to just survive the horrors and for those a tear may be shed without guilt. How the mouse dons the mantle of the wolf and stalks her prey is a wonderfully dark twist and I loved how the story was full of suspense, intrigue and drama. Taj and Miss Betty were excellent secondary characters and I hope that maybe Taj will get his own dark love story at some point too.

A fantastic start to the year with another smashing story from the queen of darkness TL Smith. Unique characters that break the stereotypical mood, a plot that is deviantly dark and a love that is raw and consuming - perfect!

A five star I want to be his mouse read.

"She and I Fell into the pages of that book and got lost in the words".

One thing you don't get with TL Smith and that's hearts and flowers. What you do get is characters that are complex, a puzzle you think you can solve and you just can't, they are what they are but likeable in their own dark and messed up way.

TL Smith has once again written characters that lure you in by their actions which in the real world would be hard to comprehend and once again TL Smith has blown me away with her creativity of words, characters and plot..

The beginning of this book introduces you to Jaya as she shares in her pov how she meets a girl from work they became friends, it sounds quite normal but as the story progresses you will also discover her friend Toska is anything but normal, her actions aren't normal and Jaya is caught up in a dangerous friendship that she knows she should run far away from but at the same time is intrigued and the attraction intensifies when Jaya meets Toska's brother Syler and she enters the very dangerous and dark world of this brother and sister.

Toska is a killer, her brother her protector, Toska needs to kill and Syler helps her feed her need by watching over her and getting rid of the bodies after her need is fulfilled.

There are a lot of moments that are twisted, I was definitely on the edge trying to figure out how this book could possibly have a happy ending but it was exciting too.
I loved the dark side of TL Smith's mind that creates these dark and cryptic characters.

Jaya and Syler have a relationship but it's definitely not conventional. Syler is a man who has never experienced love, he is drawn to Jaya and claims her as his, he's almost primal and never loving in the normal way and for two years Jaya takes it all because of the need to have this dark, silent and puzzle of a man in her life and her bed.

Jaya doesent realise she is Toska's plaything, a friend who was hand picked with a time limit until Toska decides she's bored with the friend who now spends more time with her brother and her brother no longer gives her all his attention and Toska goes from friend to dangerous foe.

"He was like a poison challace. Because I knew drinking from him would one day kill me".

I was hooked from first page to last.

Buried in lies is in a league of its own but if I had to compare to any other book I have read and it's not even similar but it would have to be Sick fix by Tillie Cole just to give you an idea of the messed up world Jaya enters.

There is sex within Buried in lies but no abuse or rape. There is murder but no descriptive detail.

A good dark, gripping, psychological and thrilling read that does eventually lead to a hea.

This is a story about a girl who gets involved with two murderous psychopaths. Nothing about Toska or Syler was remotely appealing. They weren't psychopaths with charm who lured you in. They were nothing but demented from the start. I didn't find them interesting because there was no depth to them. There weren't deeper layers to be revealed. They simply did the fucked up things they did because they liked to.

Around a third of the way in, I realized that I didn't give a shit about the characters or their fates. They were all demented in their own way, and quite frankly I couldn't have cared less if they all died. I kept reading thinking something truly shocking would happen, but it did not.

Plenty of things were far-fetched. First of all, Toska and Syler would have gotten busted for the shit they were doing. They weren't taking the right precautions to not leave evidence or witnesses behind.

What if I was to tell you this is a story not for the feint hearted, what if I was to tell you it will consume you to the point that you won’t be able to put it down. Buried In Lies is like no other and it’s going to screw with your mind.

I was Addicted, I was Captivated and I was completely blown away by this book. T.L. Smith is renowned for her Books with a dark soul but she has out done herself. Her characters are Deliciously Dark and oh so twisted, the perfect mix for this psychological suspense.

In Buried In Lies we meet Toska, she’s the kind of person who looks harmless enough but she’s also the sort of person who will rip out your heart and walk away smiling, something Jaya should steer clear of. If only it were that simple....maybe if Syler Hunter wasn’t always around looking Hot as sin and menacing with the way he looks at her she wouldn’t be drawn into a world where she finds herself as the hunted. It’s a sick and twisted game one that may never ends! Are you afraid of the big bad wolf?

Recommend Read, loved it.

Well played T. I love getting inside your dark little mind. Ladies and Gents if you haven’t already added this baby to your TBR make sure you do because you may just find yourself with a new Bad Arse (somewhat psychotic girl crush or two!)

This book is a total mind fu@k in the best way possible. This story is twisted, dark, and utterly delicious.

Syler is mysterious with the penetrating green eyes and is a wolf. Jaya is his mouse and that my friends equals and amazing story.

Even the secondary characters Taj and Toska will leave you hoping for more! And I do hope this book becomes a duet or perhaps a spin off will happen in the future.

Absolutely brillant story telling. ☆☆☆☆☆

She was an mouse seeking acceptance, he was the devil surrounded by havoc . He showed his darkness, she showed him the light. Together they conquer the evil surrounding them , the darkness engulfing them to find a beautiful forever through twisted beginnings .

Buried in Lies is beautiful yet twisted love story .
A twisted love story , filled with monsters in the dark ,. A roller coaster ride with twists at every page turn . Some downright smokin hot smexy times , the chemistry was volcanic and moments of uncertainties .

The author has weaved a trail of intrigue from the very first page to an ending that’s unpredictable . A story line that will keep you intrigued till the very last page, and many moments that will have you gasping and thinking WTF !!

A Fast paced story, that is well delivered, characters that are damaged but as the pages flip by , we see growth within the pages . Lots of secondary characters that you will enjoy and an over HEA that all readers will grin after turning that last page.

What a dark, deep and dastardly mind wreck!!! What the heck?? I read it, but I don't believe it!!! Might need to read this again. Not only to ensure what I read reaply happened, bht also because it was that good. I am struck speechless. This talent just has this supreme mindblowing effect. You will be in such a book slump after reading Buried in Lies, you may be ruined for all other authors.

Buried in Lies had me in state that was not recognisable. I had sweaty palms, rapidly beating heart, shortness of breath and shaking all over. I was in a state of hyper awareness at all times, but never sure what event would unfold next. This story will mess with you, intrigue you, and impress beyond anything you could prepare for.

T.L. Smith has totally stopped me in my tracks with the unmasked and uninhibited talent that is blindingly obvious in every book that is created. I become one with the story and it's characters. The ride was tense, emotional and one I never want to leave. 5 brilliant stars.

Edit: what are all of these reviews??!! Did we read the same book? With the same Syler? Hahahah :)

It was so vague and confusing. He was so boring and bland and had no personality except to spout random possessive lines and fuck her. I don’t get her obsession with him from the second she sees him. Part 2 was just a mess. She wakes up not knowing what happened. Everyone’s trying to kill each other. He’s always picking his psycho sister. And then at the end everything was perfectly resolved. Even her relationship with her dad and even HE began to date. Just ugh. So boring. Taj was the only interesting character.

Sabe aquele livro q é tão errado, mas
ainda assim vc gosta?

Wtf was this?! All the 5 stars seem like a joke to me! Did we even read the same book? It felt thrown together by a teenager. What a mess! None of the characters were likable, especially the main one. I kept waiting for some reality/twist in the situation,

To fall for a madman you must first taste the devil

Wow this book is crazy hot. This book will definitely be in my top favorite book. So much rage, possession, addiction, and steam. This book is incredible.

This is a dark story about three characters. Jaya, Syler and crazy girl named Toska. Without details. Go into this story blind if you think you can handle the darkness.

Bizarre and unbelievable stuff happens here! Some kind of darkest and most disturbing Little Red world..... "weird shit pulls in more weird shit". I just did not get it. I also did not care for single character in this story.

Buried in Lies by Author T. L. Smith is a dark romance novel.

“Your eyes are buried in lies, did you know that?”

You know how sometimes you just crave a certain type of novel? I love dark romance, and I needed a fix. From the moment I opened this novel and began reading, an air of mystery settled in around me. I was completely enveloped in the strange and intoxicating setting created by Author T. L. Smith.

“Be careful, Jaya. Those who play in the dark carry handfuls of acid ready to eat away at your heart.”

Syler was trouble with a capital R. U. N. But good grief if I didn’t want to see Jaya get trapped in his gravitational pull and give into him. Jaya was his drug of choice. One glance, one hit, and he was desperate for the next before the current ended.

“He was like my poison chalice. Because I knew drinking from him one day would kill me. Yet, I still didn’t run. Instead I drank heavily from that chalice. What a fool I was.”

The suspense in this novel kept me right on the edge of going crazy. I wanted to scream! I needed help breathing. I wanted answers. I wanted change. I wanted redemption. But, as screwed up and insane as this story was, there was a line of sweet that ran through it, at times permeating what it touched. This line made me slightly hopeful for healing and true love.

“I didn’t just love her. She and I fell into the pages of that book and got lost in the words.”

Book endings. Sometimes they falter. Sometimes they make me feel like I wish for an alternate choice of finality. Not this one. At the last pages of this novel, I felt whole. All the freaks were in their place, and the world could keep on turning. It was fantastic!

“You loving me will destroy us both...”

It’s only the second week in January and I’ve already read two of my favourite books EVER and this story is one of them.

I believe this is a book that it’s best to know nothing about the story and to be honest I’m not sure I would be able to describe the plot adequately. What i do know is that it is unlike anything I’ve read before the premise is totally unique.

There are three main characters, Jaya, Syler and Toska but how to describe them complex, compelling , fascinating, manipulative, thrilling, crazy everyone of those words fits. I’m not going to tell you how they meet or what they do but hold onto your hats because nothing will prepare you for what you are about to read.

This is one of the most compelling books I’ve read, never knowing what was going to happen or where the author was going to take the story next kept he enthralled from start to finish.

Wow oh wow!
For those of you who know's this author works, you know how twisted she can be and this book said it all!
Love Buried In lies. Love the author with her twisted story line. Love how the characters connected. Not sure if my words can describe how good she is, but if usually you want to crawl in a book you read and live in it, i swear to God you would never want to live in any of TL Smith's books! Cause this author sure know how to write her twisted story and make you jump on your seat and curse her in every five pages or so.
Congrats! Another great job from TL Smith!

That was a helluva thing! I'm slightly questioning my moral compass after this read. It was dark, messy, and intriguing. You couldn't help but read on. While the acts were definitely of a questionable nature, it was still too easy to fall in deep with a certain green eyed monster.

Buried in Lies will pull you in quicker than you like and won't release you until it's done. It's captivating and gets your fight or flight instinct tripping. It was a ride I won't forget.
