A Fabrian Books' cosy crime novel, with more than a hint of medical drama and romance...
DI Hannah Blair has returned to Scotland to head up a small team of detectives investigating the whole range of crimes that occur in the wild Highlands. When her team is asked to investigate a suspicious death in the rural town of Balloch Pass, Blair isn’t just looking for a potential killer, she’s also chasing the ghosts of her past.
Dr Noah Bradshaw has only been in town for a year. But as one of three GPs in the small medical practice, he’s already well-liked in the community… until the finger of suspicion points at him, and some of his patients start to believe he really could be capable of murder.
With a local priest also under suspicion, Blair is preoccupied by her strained relationship with her father and her unwanted attraction to one of the suspects, until the investigation seems to be slipping through her fingers. But when Noah reveals the secret that brought him to Balloch Pass, everything changes…
Blair faces a race against time to stop the killer striking again, and grab her own chance of happiness with both hands.
What a fabulous down to earth read. Fantastic plot that you can see happening in any community whether rural or urban. Plus characters that are so real you could be living next door to any of them. A wonderful setting of rural Scotland and the imagery used actually makes it come alive in front of you. He has moved to Scotland after the death of his wife from a terminal illness. Now he is faced with the prospect of being a suspect in a 'suspicious' death of one of his patients. The tongues are wagging as the local detective, in charge of the investigation, starts questioning him about the death. Worse he feels drawn to her romantically but he is unaware of her own demons. Another death occurs but this time he is cleared as he was in London with his in-laws. As more and more is found that lead to the assumption that more deaths had been done by this serial killer both he and the detective have to make hard choices on where they go from here. Will they find the killer before they strike again? What will they both decide to do - stay or flight?
This book was nothing like I expected. It was great to see what was happening with Evie and Alistair . It has had so many twists and turns. I was on the edge of my seat reading about the murder only to find out there was more than one. The true story of Noah. The ending was not what I expected either. I just hope there’s another book as I’ve enjoyed the 2 I’ve read so far about the highland practice. I recommend this book 100%.
I was hoping there'd be a sequel to A Highland Practice so I was thrilled when this was out the other day! And what a fantastic surprise, too! Not your usual romance, but a thrilling and well balanced blend of a detective story with a love story. It had me glued to my kindle screen until I knew who the culprit was. Loved it, and as usual, I can't recommend it enough.
I really enjoyed this book as there was lots of detail regarding the characters and not like some books I couldn’t work out before hand who had committed the murders. Hope to read more books like this one.
Another feel good story (even though it involves a serial killer). Plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Hope there will be more in this series.
