GAMBLERS, PROSPECTORS, CUTTHROATS AND GUNSLINGERS -WELCOME TO DEADWOOD 1876Veteran, outlaw, lawman and now hired gun—John Nichols’ life has had many twists and turns. After avenging the murder of his wife and daughter, John is left without a purpose. Then along comes a wealthy New York banker. He and his son are headed to Deadwood to prospect gold and need protection. Not needing to think twice, John takes the position, but it proves to be more than he could have imagined. Living up to its reputation, Deadwood is a lawless town where deception, intrigue and murder happen daily. It’s a place where few find riches but more lose them, a place of blood and gold, and the one place where John finds himself knee-deep in both.

I am definitely impressed with Mr. Hope and his wonderful excerpts of old western adventures. This story is exceptionally well written, and I am unsure how many hours the author had to spend in research to create an exceptional western episode. Great job!
Very worthy of the five stars I searchers very well written novel, and this second story is even better than the original story in the series.
I am definitely impressed with the author's character selection, as well as the great storylines. I am now looking forward to book three. I have the utmost respect for the author's excellent, and compelling, episodes of our old western folklore.
I, without hesitation, recommend this book, as well as all other novels in this series. The author has a very compelling and heartwarming effect on the reader from beginning to end. Please! Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy this wonderfulness of western adventures!
A North Dakota Gold Rush Western/Pits the Miners Against the Crooks
GNU has penned a good rush western that begins in Dodge City, KS, and ends in Deadwood, Dakota Territory. John leads a two man team , father and son, from Dodge City to Deadwood where they purchase a good mining claim. The father had contacted Smallpox without warning the other two men. They discover a large deposit of gold and then the crooks want their claim back. This is an excellent read for the genre.....ER
G. Michael Hopf's transition to Western fiction loses none of his high-quality storytellings. This is the second of his Western Genere books that I have read, and both are excellent works. This book has us following the trials and tribulations of our hero a Son of the South, as he tries to find his place in society as a War of Northern Aggression survivor. (Civil War for you of the Yankee persuasion.) This series is really worth your time in reading. I have enjoyed all G. Michael Hopf's books that I have read and think you will too. Definitely a five-star work.
Our hero gets himself into big trouble. Our author portrays humans much as I've known them to be. There are the ones who are kind and act wisely, others who are pure evil and then the fairly honest but wrongheaded and foolish.
This is an exceptional book that actually tells the life of a man who returned from the civil war, and the hardships he had to endure. This is the 2nd book, and a continues from the first. Really a great story. Now I need to get the 3rd in this series.
Some people will do anything for gold. Even killing innocent men and women. John takes a job protecting a wealthy man and his son. Only to end up accused of murdering the son.
I love a good western. I haven't decided yet whether John Nichols follows trouble or trouble follows him. I also liked the historical figures that were added into this book. Wyatt and Morgan Earp, (one of my grandson's teachers is married to an Earp but it is pronounced Arp because the great grandmother didn't like Wyatt), the James brothers (my husband taught a descendant whose name is Jesse) and the Youngers (whose line married into the Dalton line which my husband descended from). It made the storyline much more real for me. Great story, job well done.
