Being a guitar junky, player, tech, and collector, I am always anxious to read and discover more about the instruments I so love and adore. This book was an amazing find and I would recommend it to anyone whether you play, collect, or are just interested in the mechanics of the guitar. It's one thing to know how to play, but it's a completely different thing to know how your instrument functions. For an electric guitar, the pickups are the soul of the operation...without them, your guitar has no voice.
This book covers everything from the concepts of humbuckers, single coils, P90s, active, passive, pickup manufacturers, and even unique and obscure pickup makers. I was amazed to come across their awesome section on Seth Lover (the genius behind the famous "Patent Applied For" Gibson Humbucker and Mini-humbucker) who later went to work for Fender and helped them design the pickups for their 1980's Lead I and III (great guitars BTW).
This book also covers different windings and magnets and how different materials and processes can have great effects on sound and output. Have you ever wondered why there were so many pickups and pickup manufactures to choose from? Well, this book can not only answer that question, but surely any other question an inquisitive mind might conjure up. A very enjoyable, informative, and down right fun read. I highly recommend this book!
