Talitha is the rightful ensaak of Ilios, but betrayal has left her a fugitive far from her grandfather’s city. With the usurper supported by the crazed priest of the war goddess, Talitha needs an army to free her people, even if it means pledging allegiance to another ruler.
Ashek is leader of the Hudspethites and was willing to die for Talitha. But he refuses to fight for her city unless she agrees to pledge loyalty to the Hudspethite tribe—and to him. Forced to make a decision, Talitha must choose what she is willing to give up and what she is willing to gain as they near the final battle for Ilios.
Ensaak is a 30,000 word novella and the fourth installment in the all-new Warlords of the Sandsea romance adventure series.
I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS AND I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW
Whew. Okay. So, so much happened in this book. Like I've said before, I feel like I would've preferred this entire series as longer books instead just so that I could spend more time in the SANDSEA universe, but, honestly, having it revealed bit by bit as serial installments is really fun. Sort of adds to the suspense of it all, y'know?
We see a lot of growth from the characters in this book, and if you look back at them from book one to now you'll see just how far they've come. You have heartthrob Ashek, the heir-to-priestly-lineage turned mercenary turned nation-builder. You have badass Talitha, dutiful-heiress turned dethroned-ruler turned slave turned impending-usurper. And you just have so many other characters too, from ones that we haven't seen in quite some time to new editions.
My favorite thing about Ensaak is Talitha's journey. She started this series as a young woman who sacrificed what she wanted for the betterment of her city-state, who never allowed herself to worship or live as she wished, and who consistently put her happiness last. To see her come into her own and take on the world, to avenge those she's loved and lost, to have her begin to find happiness and fight to take back what is hers is incredibly satisfying.
I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment of this series! If you're not reading it already, you better hop on this wagon ASAP. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy, adventure, action, romance, or just a plain old good story.
Interesting and enjoyable. I still think the previous installment will be my favorite of the series but this was still a nice continuation of the story.
These novellas are short but increasingly littered with mistakes such as characters misnamed, typos, grammatical errors. Would benefit from an editing team.
