About the author

Alex Frith has been a children's non-fiction author since 2005. Working exclusively for Usborne Publishing, he has written over 50 books covering almost any subject you can think of, from the origins of the Universe to the meaning behind world religions, from extinct animals to prototype AIs, and from Japanese legends to Norse mythology. Two of his books have been shortlisted for the Royal Society Young's People's Book Prize: See Inside Inventions (2012), and 100 Things to Know About Space (2017).

Alex grew up in a house surrounded by comics and graphic novels, and has a lifelong passion for the medium. Beyond the comics he photocopied and passed around the playground of his primary school, he wrote the 4-part series 'Digital Graffiti' with artist Gez Fry in 2003, and has had short story comics published in FutureQuake and the Asteroid Belter.

Fab little book packed with information about computers. It covers what they are, where you find them and how they work. The illustrations are good, colourful and informative, making things easy to understand and are accompanied with information on each flap, with more details underneath.
Meant for an older child than I would have expected for the look of it. It looks very much like a board book. However, the format makes it easy to get into and follow.
A great introduction to computers and coding.

This book is a high quality (in its construction, printing) flip the flap book for older kids who are by nature curious and who enjoy attention to detail.

Unfortunately, it can be challenging to explain many of the (not simple) concepts on the fly when the explanations in the book are extremely truncated. Which, (although I couldn’t have done any better myself), is somewhat of a pervasive problem with this book. So, somewhat disheartening for little learners, even though it’s fun to flip the flaps.

I’m thinking the boys may learn a few helpful things along the way with this book.

Nápaditě řešená knížka pro mladší čtenáře - spíše na prvním stupni ZŠ. Nezavrhujte ji ovšem ani v případě, že vy, nebo někdo ve vašem okolí neví nic o tom, co se ukrývá uvnitř počítače, nikdy se to neučil a chce se dozvědět nějaký základ. Klidně bych doporučila kromě dětí i třeba pro prarodiče, kteří s počítačem začínají a nevědí ještě, co se jak jmenuje a tak :D. Kniha je krásně ilustrovaná a propracovaná.

This is an awesome book about computers. It has simple explanations of computer technology, many of them behind flaps, so you see the inside and outside views. I've been using computers for years and finally learned a bit more about how and why they work. This busy but attractive book is packed with information about the machines we use every day.
