Formerly title Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew

A sea-captain with a score to settle. A gently-bred matchmaking hellion. A love that won’t be denied.

Captain Oliver Whitehouse has two goals: make the final payment on his ship and exact revenge for his grandfather’s murder. He certainly shouldn’t interrupt years of planning to save a damsel in distress and see her safely to England. Nor should he foolishly entertain romantic notions about a future with the impulsive beauty that her guardian has warned him away from. Even if she is the loveliest creature he’s ever laid eyes on, and only she makes him forget his past.

Ward to a powerful earl, Blaike Culpepper once craved adventure and excitement. Until her impetuousness nearly caused her ruin. Now shadowed by scandal, and pursued by a madman, she finds herself obligated to the darkly handsome sea captain for rescuing her. A man she’s been attracted to since they first met at a ball and she’s grown to love. Though Blaike saves the swashbuckling scoundrel’s life and they enjoy a tantalizing kiss, the infuriating man won’t woo her.

Once Oliver returns Blaike safely to England, he must make an agonizing decision. Dare he risk everything to pursue her, despite the vast difference in their social stations? Or should he sail away, leaving his heart behind?

You’ll want to read this heart-warming class difference Regency historical by a USA Today bestselling author in one sitting! A tender, sigh-worthy tale of unrequited love, Oliver and Blaike’s story will have you wondering what’s going to happen until the very end!

If you enjoy reading strong heroine, sister series, romantic comedies, and redeemed rogue love stories with a pinch of mystery & suspense, a dash of humor, gripping emotion, and a naughty dog, then you’ll adore Collette Cameron’s captivating THE BLUE ROSE REGENCY ROMANCES: THE CULPEPPER MISSES. Buy THE BUCANNEER AND THE BLUESTOCKING and settle into your favorite reading nook for a page-turning, entertaining Regency England world adventure you can’t put down.

The Culpeppers have knack for trouble, so it should come as no surprise when Blaike and her twin sister Blaire find themselves stranded and penniless at the docks in France after fleeing a scandal at their school in Geneva. When a stranger introduces himself as Capt. Landon Abraham and offers to assist them, the agree but feel uneasy. When they learn that the ship they are supposed to take to England has no record of a booking for them, Landon says he will take them, they decline, but he insists.

Oliver Whitehouse is upset, merchants are refusing to ship their cargo with him and someone is spreading lies about him. He is sure the villain is Abraham, the scum who killed his family and burned their home/office to the ground, leaving him homeless. Olivier is the illegitimate & acknowledged son of George Talbot, Viscount Willoughby. Payment is due on his ship and the lost cargo could mean disaster for him, but he refuses to go to his father for help. He is wondering what he will do when he sees the last woman he ever expected to see again - Blaike Culpepper!

When Olivier intervenes to save the girls from the dastard Abraham, his reward is being shot! His men manage to get Oliver and the girls back to his ship, where Blaike insists on tending him. She doesn't answer his questions about why she was in Lyons, but instead turns the conversation to her family. When Oliver falls asleep, Blaike crawls in the bunk with him, thinking he is asleep. She wonders out loud how she is going to explain leaving Geneva and to her surprise, Oliver asks why she left. Blaike spills the entire sordid tale and Oliver comforts her. He in turn tells her his suspicions about Abraham These two have always had a connection, one that Blaike would like to explore, but Oliver doesn't feel that the bastard son of a Viscount is good enough for her.

The chemistry between them is hot and after a harrowing and dangerous journey back to England, they part ways. Oliver never plans to see her again - he loves her, but is steadfast in his belief that they can't be together leaving Blaike heartbroken.

But fate is not done with our lovers just yet, they will both have to confront their pasts, deal with their families and fight for their love before they can have their HEA.

This is a quick read, it is well written, flows nicely, has some warm love scenes, a foul mouthed cockatoo, cameos from the other Culpeppers, really nasty villains, surprises and shocking revelations and finally a very sweet and satisfying ending.

This is the fourth book in the series and while it could be read as a stand alone title, you will enjoy it much more if you read the series in order.

Wherever those Culpepper girls are intrigue, adventure, and laughs are sure to follow.

A near disaster has Blaike Culpepper and her twin scurrying back to England and family only to meet with a potential worse fate. When Blaike runs into Captain Oliver Whitehouse, a family friend, and savior. However, Blaike may suffer heartbreak anyway.

Captain Oliver Whitehouse loves his ship and nothing else. Well, there may be someone he loves but he knows deep in his heart she’s someone he’ll never have and he’s spent months trying to forget her. Until he spies her in a most unlikely place and in trouble. Can he rescue the damsel in distress, spend weeks on a ship taking her home then walk away without losing anymore of his heart?
The venture home proves to be adventurous, entertaining, and frustrating. Both for Blaike and me; there were many times I wanted to whack Oliver upside the head and yell at him to quit being such a dunderhead.

Collette Cameron’s Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper series will have you rolling in the floor laughing and her latest Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew is no exception. Love the appearances of all the Culpepper Misses and they prove to be just as entertaining as they were in their own books. Anxiously awaiting Blaire’s story to see what adventure she takes us on.

While part of a series, Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew can be read as a stand-alone.

*** I WAS GIFTED AN ARC COPY OF THIS TITLE, FROM THE AUTHOR, IN EXCHANGE FOR MY FAIR AND HONEST REVIEW***

Blaike Culpepper's reputation is in shreds, having been set up by the madame of a prominent French finishing school for young ladies. Now Blaike's only option is to run away from this "academy". But when she and her twin make a run for it they run into much more trouble than they anticipated. They encounter some seedy individuals and are ver nearly sold into white slavery. If not for the dashing Italian captain, Oliver Whitehouse, coming to their rescue the ladies would have most certainly suffered a fate worse than death.

Oliver Whitehouse is the dashing and daring captain of the Sea Gypsy. He's the bastard son of an English lord and a humble Italian woman who died during childbirth. Although his parents had a love for the ages, they never married. This has convinced Captain Whitehouse that nobles and commoners should not marry... it only causes heartbreak for everyone involved. That is until he meets Miss Blaike Culpepper, the fairy haired beauty who whisks onto his ship and into his life.

Blaike is a determined heroine who isn't afraid to go after what she wants... and what (or rather who) she wants is Oliver. She'll stop at practically nothing until he's her husband.
Oliver is a headstrong man who's running from his past. He has no room for a wife in his life, no matter how enchanted he has become with a Miss Culpepper.

Oh those Culpepper girls are very very delightful, Blaike is a joy & Oliver swoon worthy but it’s m’lady Lottie who steals the book, her turn of phrase had me laughing out loud! Another engrossing well written read by the author the story flows very well & I read it in two sittings, it would have been one but I needed sleep. The characters are well fleshed & have plenty of depth. I now really look forward to Blaire’s story

Blaike Culpepper and her twin Blair’s find themselves in a heap of trouble at the docks in France. But the Culpepper ladies have a knack for finding trouble. Luckily, Captain Oliver Whitehouse recognizes them and comes to their rescue. Oliver has loved Blaike since meeting her and bringing the Miss Culpeppers to school in France on his ship in the first place. But he knows, as a bastard impoverished sea captain, he can never divulge his feelings for Blaike. Wounded in the rescue of the ladies, Oliver and Blaike find themselves together as his ship brings them back to England. Enemies, a foul mouthed fowl, and Oliver’s own feelings of inadequacy surround the couple as they make their way to their HEA. I have loved all of the Conundrums series and Blaike and Oliver do not disappoint! I was gifted with an ARC for review.

Once again Cameron has created an absolutely unforgettable novel. The seamless combination of romance, comedy, and danger creates a tale that any will love.

This novel is simultaneously comical and heartbreaking. Cameron’s writing evokes emotions in both the characters and the reader. Not only is the story heartfelt, but the characters are unforgettable. I love that we met these two earlier in the series but get to know them so much better here. They are amongst my favourite of Cameron’s couples.

Cameron’s eloquent storytelling combined with the imaginatively vivid descriptions brought this world to life in a big way. It’s also 100% unique, original, and captivating. It is a story that I have to recommend, but would also suggest reading the series in order.

Captain Oliver Whitehouse and Blaike Culpepper
I enjoyed this story that was filled with humor, danger, grief, and heart warming joy! The characterization including all of the side characters was top notch, especially the foul mouthed M'Lady Lottie. This story has a complete and very satisfying HEA.

Blaike Culpepper and her twin sister, Blaire are trying to escape a school in France that lured them under the guise of being an educational institution when it really isn't. This puts them in the path of a very dangerous sea captain and a few members of his crew. When they think all is lost, Oliver Whitehouse intervenes.

Oliver is a sea captain, too, but he's honest. He's not out to hurt anyone. He wants to help the Culpepper twins, but Blaike ends up helping him. Oliver is handsome (I love long hair on men), has a sense of decency, and is chivalrous. I loved him from the moment he was introduced into the story.

The story was quite captivating, but M'Lady Lottie added some humor to it. That bird said some of the raunchiest things, cursed in British English, and said things at the most inopportune times. I laughed more than once.

Oliver was relieved that Blaike thought Lottie was amusing, too. The bird was annoying to her for awhile, but she was never really offended by what Lottie said. I thought that added to Blaike's character. It showed that she's not such a goody-goody and isn't pampered. There were other places in the novel that showed that as well.

A great story with great characters and an amusing sidekick in Lottie earned this book five stars.

In case you missed it, this is book four of the "Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper" series. I haven't read any other books in the series, but I wish I had just because I liked this book so much. It is easily read as a standalone novel.

The fourth installment of the Culpepper Series, this was a fast paced adventure that grabbed my heart from the first page. Blaike and her twin Blaire had escaped from a terrible situation in Geneva making it to France to board a ship to take them home to England. Little did they know that they would be accosted on the docks by a scoundrel and were barely saved by Captain Oliver Whitehouse. Luckily the girls knew Oliver, who had secretly loved Blaike for awhile. But getting the girls on ship left him wounded in the scuffle and Blaike devoted herself to his care. The trip back definitely was explosive with the chemistry between the two and with a fowl mouthed bird to keep everybody entertained! Collette Cameron has a gift of bringing the settings and characters to life while keeping the story fresh and entertaining. This book had a little of it all - suspense, humor and of course a heart pounding romance that made me love Oliver and Blaike. With a visit from the other Culpepper sister's from books 1-3, it reminded me how much I have loved this entire series. I cannot wait for Blaire's story and I know it will be just as wonderful as this one!! Well done as always Collette Cameron!!

Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️by Collette
Cameron

When Blaike and Blaire find themselves in an all too familiar conundrum in France, Captain Oliver Whitehouse comes to the rescue. The ladies find themselves apprehended by Oliver’s arch enemy to become sex slaves and shipped off to the Middle East.

Blaike and Blaire sailed previously with the Captain and both he and Blaire were attracted to each other. As a roguish sea captain, born on the other side of the blanket, he had no right to think of any aspirations of love with this gentle born beauty.

It is on the voyage back to London when Blaire is enlisted to doctor Oliver who received a gun shot wound. The couples closeness becomes evident. They each confide personal stories about their lives and Blaire learns of Oliver’s need to seek revenge on the man who murdered his grandfather.

I just loved the character of Oliver. His roguish behavior and mannerisms. Blaire too was not a typical Miss she was mischievous as well as sensitive. These two were a perfect fit as only Ms Cameron could pen. I have followed this series completely and I am never disappointed.

Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew is the fourth installment in the Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper series. In this book, Blaike and her sister Blaire have been in France attending the Les sames de l’Académie de Grâce when Blaike is nearly ruined. They quickly leave, heading home to England; however, they encounter some rather nefarious characters while waiting on the dock for their ship.

Oliver Whitehouse is a sea captain who holds a tendre for Blaike. However, having grown up believing commoners and aristocrats shouldn’t marry, he keeps his feelings for Blaike to himself. He comes to the rescue of the Culpepper sisters just as their future looks like it can’t get any worse. The journey back to England on his ship is not easy and Oliver and Blaike find themselves spending a lot of time together. Will they set aside their secrets to let their feelings grow?

If you are a fan of the Misses Culpepper series, or if this is your introduction to the series, you will be extremely happy with this latest story from Collette Cameron. This romantic tale features a handsome sea captain, a beautiful heroine, a reliable first-mate, and a hilariously foul-mouthed cockatoo (who almost steals the show). Hopefully, one day Hawkins and Blaire will have their own HEA, as will M’Lady Lottie. I truly enjoyed the story and am eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series!!

I was gifted an ARC without compensation or expectation of a positive review. My review is my own, honest opinion.

I so loved this book! I'd give it a 4.5 if the ratings allowed it. It has been the most interesting book in the Culpepper sisters series, and just dethroned Brette's story as my favorite. It's both sweet and exciting at the same time, and has wonderfully placed bits of humor to diffuse some of the tension.
Blaike is still the lively, strong and smart lady I really liked from the previous books, yet in this one we get to meet Oliver Whitehouse with more detail. And he's such a wonderfully complex character, with many new things to add to the narrative.
I'm so in love with M'lady Lottie, I cannot even start to say how much I want a foul mouthed cockatoo right now.
I so recommend this book (and all the series in general, it's among the most fun romance series I've read in a while), and I really cannot wait for Blair's book to come out. It already looks like it's going to be great.

“Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew” is the fourth book in the Conundrums of the Misses Culpeppers Series. Blaike Culpepper and her twin Blaire have spent several months in France attending a ladies academy called Les Dames de l’Academie. But once there, they realize that the head mistress Madame Beaulieu is a deceiver. This is the story of how the young ladies escape to the safety of England and of how Blaike finds true love on that journey.
I truly enjoyed this book in the series. I especially enjoyed the salty character of the cockatoo named M’Lady Lottie. The cockatoo was raised in a brothel and her vocabulary is highly offensive and funny.
I highly recommend that these books, and that they be read in order for continuity. I was gifted a copy of this book.

Hooray for Blaike and Oliver. A charming and fun addition to the Culpepper series, complete with appearances from our earlier Culpepper friends, a horrible enemy and a laugh out loud foul-mouthed cockatoo.

When twins Blaike and Blaire Culpepper find themselves stranded on the docks in France trying to make their way back to England, things quickly go from bad to worse when they find themselves about to become victims of human trafficking. Captain Oliver Whitehouse knows something is amiss when he sees his nemesis and some of his men skulking about the docks and follows them. He is astounded to find the Culpepper twins about to be sold off, gathers his men and quickly comes to their rescue. When Oliver is shot during the rescue, his men manage to get both Oliver and the twins back to the ship and on the way back to England.

During the trip, the feelings that both Blaike and Oliver have harbored for each other for some time resurface and grow while Blaike tends to Oliver's wound. Being illegitimate and without funds, Oliver believes that he will never be worthy enough to marry Blaike, so he pushes her away as they arrive back in England, over her protests that those things don't matter to her.

Events conspire to bring these two back together and we will find that, once again, love conquers all.

This is a witty, quick read that will leave you waiting for the final book in the Culpepper series to see what happens between Blaire and Mr. Drake. While each book in the series can be read and enjoyed on a stand-alone basis, I would recommend reading from the beginning to get a feel for the other characters involved.

2.5 stars.

This wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The story was sweet enough, but the angst was too silly and unsubstantiated for me to find it all that compelling. I appreciated that Ms. Cameron didn't fill this book with references to the H's sordid past; there were no mentions of any past at all, which was nice in its own way. There were also no sex scenes, which I appreciated. No OP drama, totally safe, but ultimately forgettable.

What can I say besides I LOVED Blaike and Oliver's story! The trials Blaike went through and yet she never changed her loving outlook nor doubted herself. Oliver who never thought he was good enough for Blaike even though he loved her deeply. I thought the part Hawkins played was great, but I have to admit, Lottie stole the show and my heart! The Epilogue made it all worth it! I can't wait to see if Drake ever comes up to scratch! Thank you for my ARC, I'm so glad I was able to read this so soon!!

As there are many reviews telling this story (some spoilers), I will just say I enjoyed this book.

I received this book as an ARC. Blaike like the rest of the Culpeppers is a unique character. She is full of fun and fire. Her antics will astound you and also cause you many moments of hilarity. The story has some unique human and animal characters that lead to great fun. Of course the lovebirds get their happily ever after.

As always, I wait with anticipation for the next book in this Culpepper Series & this was so worth the wait! I loved Oliver & Blaike together - it was just "sigh" worthy throughout the book. They loved each other but Oliver never felt he was good enough for Blaike & she didn't care where he came from & only wanted & loved him. I always enjoy the revisiting of the sisters from the previous stories, along with their new titled husbands. The supporting cast of Hawkins, who was just wonderful & M'Lady Lottie was the star - what an absolute hoot she was! Collette Cameron pulls you into to her books & I always feel like I am part of the family. I, once again, will be waiting impatiently to see if Blaire & Drake have a HEA or if she finds someone else. I was gifted this ARC to read & so happy I received it!

Blaike and her sister Blaire attend a finishing school in France. Well the school is finishing something and that something has to do with unsavory gentlemen and lightskirts. Blaike and Blaire escape quickly thinking they have passage home. When they arrive (early) they find themselves in even more danger or so Blaike thinks. They are almost kidnapped and sold into sex slavery. Handsome Oliver Whitehouse is Captain of the Sea Gypsy and knows the evil man who is trying to force the girls onto his ship. He steps in and rescues both girls and heads home. He is injured in the process and Blaike takes care of him. He does his best to fight the attraction because he is a by-blow and feels he in not good enough. That fight along with a few mishaps (pirates attack, evil schemers show up and tragedy hits the Sea Gypsy) get in the way of a peaceful travel home. Plus there is one foul mouthed Cockatoo who could make the most unsavory sea pirate blush! Blaike feels Tristan must come to senses...for she loves him dearly and cannot see life without her handsome Captain. It takes another injury for Tristan to realize he loves Blaike and will do anything to have her... This is Collette Cameron's best one yet!

A Culpepper Caper on the High Seas

Another hilarious and at the same time poignant love story. Blaine is by far my favorite of the Culpepper family of "B" heroines!. But then, I say that with every one! Oliver proved to be a hero among hero's as he rescues the twin sisters from a fate worse than death and denying his profound love for Blaine when he deems her to be above his station of a sea faring Captain with no title of fortune to his name.
I have to recommend this book if for no other reason than to read the hilarious antics of the raucous kooky cockatoo, M'Lady Lottie. She is definitely the life of the party - even when the going gets rough on the high seas during a storm.

You will be hooked from the start with this one! I was holding my breath as soon as I realized what was happening in the office. I loved how they were together from the start because they couldn't hide anything from each other. M'Lady Lottie adds to everything with how she interrupts and the things she says. I did not expect the reason for why his grandfather was murdered or everything surrounding it.

Blaike is one of a kind in many ways. I loved her right away because she wouldn't go down without a fight for anything. She knew what she wanted and went after it. When she did what she did in front of everyone I couldn't keep from laughing.

Oliver believes they can never be but is very wrong. I loved him from that start because of how open he was with her and the way he treated everyone including Lottie. He had no clue what secrets were buried about his family.

I loved that it also involved some Italian.

The courage of two sisters, so much the same and yet so different is delightful.

The adventure of Blaike and Blaire to return home kept me reading. The growing relationship between Blaike and Oliver is fun and at times sad. But when you add in the crew and M'Lady Lottie, oh boy! Absolutely enjoyable to read and sail with them into the storm and out again.

This is romantic, exciting, suspenseful and highly amusing. Oliver is honorable, charismatic and captivating. Blaike is strong, spunky, brave and caring. Having previously met and developed feelings, attraction and longing become harder to ignore after Oliver rescues Blaike and her sister from being kidnapped and they end up on his ship sailing back to England. They're very entertaining, as are the crew, but M'lady Lottie is hilarious. I loved everything about this book, and it's a great addition to the series. Which I recommend adding to your TBR list.
