Jonathan was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada with his identical twin brother Drew Scott, and older brother J.D. Scott. His passion for entertaining started at the young age of 7 when he began performing in small theatre productions and on weekends as an apprentice clown. His acting eventually segued from the stage to screen and his clowning evolved to performing as a magician. He continued to hone his skills over the next decade or so, winning many awards and accolades. In 2005, Jonathan started getting more heavily involved in producing and promoting independent film & television. With his brother Drew, Jonathan founded Scott Brothers Entertainment and they began producing many of their own projects, which have now toured and gained numerous nods all over the festival circuit. Today Jonathan co-hosts the real estate show Property Brothers (2011) and oversees the operation and expansion of Scott Brothers Entertainment.

I've never seen any of their shows, so this book is all my opinion is based on. Meh. Good photography of generic spaces. Not everyone wants granite countertops or non-woodburning fireplaces or open floor plans. It does have a hilarious screw-up, though: in a spread on fireplaces (all electric it looks like) there is a random picture of a bathroom mirror. That was the only exciting moment I had going through this.

I am a big fan of Property Brothers and this was a fun book with enough of their signature humor to be a fun read, but it suffers from style over substance. The advice while good as far as it goes, seems vague most of the time. It is a lovely looking book with many pages of beautiful photography of finished projects. I just wish there was more solid advice, even about how to choose qualified pros. I have been thinking about this review and realized that there were areas where there was solid specific advice: deciding whether to sell your current home or renovate, and how to best sell a home. I had forgotten these areas when I made my first assessment as they are towards the beginning of the book.

I'm probably being a little too generous, but I thought this quick read had some good information in it. If you've ever bought/sold a house, it isn't so much new information as it is an update and refresher.

The only time I've seen their show, if you can cal it that, is when I'm at the gym. They have TVs lined up in like little glowing altars in front of the treadmills and stationary bikes. The sound is off, and I can't really see the captioning, so I don't know if that counts or not. (And my other options are FAUX news, golf, or endless Pioneer Woman, so it's sort of more like I stare at it to avoid the rest.) Myabe their picking on each other is part of the show, I don't know. It gets kind of old after a while, but the lists and advice is solid if you can scan part the pretend bickering.

Jonathan & Scott Drew are the dreamy pair who actually know who to turn a drab place into a dream home. Their new book is a practical step-by-step instruction manual for anyone who's ever thought of doing a reno. But, rather than just another how-to book, this one is more of a psychological handholding journey where they make you do the hard work of figuring out what's the right reno for you, and if you should even waste your time doing a reno in your current house.

Absolutely a must have for people who love decor and are thinking of renovating, and/or buying or selling their house. Lots of practical advice on what to do and what not to do. The book is absolutely fabulous, and I may just eventually accept the fact that I should give up my dream of The Property Brothers coming and helping me create my dream home. The dreamer in me says not just yet! But, in the meantime, I shall be practical and follow some advice from their amazing book.

I watch their show when I'm at the gym (if we had cable, I'd probably be addicted) and the Scott Brothers' likable personalities are clearly showcased in this book. I enjoyed looking through it, though it depressed me no end. Our house screams "I was built in 1995!" and after reading this I feel like we'll never sell it unless we do some major work on it. Sigh. I would have liked more before and after pictures, but they did offer some practical advice.

This book has everything you will ever need to think about in buying, selling or renovating your home. The book reads with the same funny banter the brothers create on the show Property Brothers. The ideas I have to turn my 1960s ranch into a cozy modern empty nester paradise are all in this book!

If you've seen their TV shows, most of the book will not be a surprise. There are some nice lists of information that are handy. The photographs are interesting even though most of the decorating is not to my taste.

Fun book to read with a lot of ideas whether upgrading your home or getting it ready for sale. Additional sections on home purchase and what to look for. I only wish they had a section on maintenance and repair.

Lots of useful information. Well laid out, very comprehensive, and really aesthetically pleasing. Even so, the best part for me was the introduction, and learning what kind of backgrounds the brothers had, and the circumstances that lead them to be the property brothers! :)

If I had to pick, I'd pick Drew, but I wish Jonathan would come over and fix my house. I've seen and enjoyed their show many times, but this book gives their fascinating back story and so much more.

I thought this book would be more about how to accomplish a remodel yourself so I was disappointed to find that it was more or a guide to whether you actually need a renovation, and if so what it should look like and who you should have accomplish that. It was also a little annoying that the book seems to have been written by both brothers at the same time - they both will make fun of each other in the same paragraph without ever specifying that the other person just picked up the writing and is now talking. That said though there was some good ideas of things to consider if you're thinking of remodeling even a part of your home and also for if you are planning on selling or buying a home anytime soon.

3.5 stars.

If anything, I enjoyed the earlier chapters about buying vs. selling vs. renting, what to consider when buying (plus all those fees on top of the selling price), etc. There were also lots of pictures to give you inspiration but don't always seem feasible to execute in your own home. Again, this book mostly provided a list of things to consider during home buying, renovation and decorating that are helpful, but no specifics on how to renovate (if that's what you're looking for in this, which you shouldn't be. Why would you?).

I picked this up at a thrift shop. I'd never heard of it before, and while I enjoy their show, I had low expectations. Then our basement flooded and I was thrown into a whole floor renovation. Suddenly, this book became super helpful. I liked their intro/story, all the lists of what's good for resale, what's worth a splurge, and how to decide on different materials, etc. I took one star off because the design in the photos is actually pretty generic (for that I'd go to Marie Flanigan or Joanna Gaines) but the advice was solid and practical.
