Food Wars is a manga about Soma, a teenage cooking prodigy whose food is so incredible, you’ll imagine yourself sans clothes, writhing in ecstasy as you taste it! Soma has been admitted into the mega-elite Totsuki Culinary Academy and instantly made enemies with the head of the school’s daughter, Erina Nakiri, who’s also a brilliant chef with an impeccable palate - except (for story purposes) she’s evil!
In this second volume, Soma goes to the Polaris Dorm and makes friends with the fellow students before meeting his latest rival and entering his first shokugeki (cooking duel) challenge!
Yuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki’s second book is a bit underwhelming as it only slightly builds upon the first volume. Not a lot happens for the majority of it. Soma meets new characters but they’re basically students who do student-y things like sit in their dorms and get wasted. We learn a bit more about the mysterious Totsuki Council of Ten Masters but all of this feels like table-setting more than anything - not gripping reading.
The cooking duel was the fun part of the book, if predictable. It’s a lot like what happened in the first book - Soma is amazing, etc.! Two volumes in and it’s already starting to feel formulaic. I still like drooling over the dishes though, staring at the pages to will them to appear in front of me! The seer fish rice ball chazuke looked heavenly and I’m pretty sure I ate part of the page showing the chaliapin steak bowl…
Maybe in a bid to appear equally exploitative, a new (buff) male character is introduced who gets naked - a LOT. So even though there are the usual naked big-boobed girls squealing with joy over rice balls (restrained to only a few pages), there’s also a pretty boy showing his bum. There’s also a new character called Ikumi Mito who looks and dresses like a porn star so you can’t help but feel like a perv reading this one!
I didn’t like this volume as much as the first one because it’s like a less interesting version of that book with fewer things happening. However it had its moments and where the volume ends makes me curious to see what’ll happen next (and what new dishes will be created!) so I’m still on board. Those whacky Japanese and their sexy food comics!

I don't think my reviews for this series are really going to vary from volume to volume, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The attention to detail with the food and recipes is topnotch, Souma is a likeable character without any of the usual traits that I sometimes despise in shounen characters, and the supporting cast is full of interesting people that I actually want to know more about.
I'm not sure how long this formula will work for me since this series is quite long, but I'm enjoying it now.

I really enjoyed learning more about how the school works and meeting the people in Soma's dorm! I can see myself getting more and more into the series as it progresses.

This series seems like it's just going to keep getting better! I hate that almost everyone looks down on Soma and his abilities because he isn't from a well known company. However, I love that Soma doesn't let what anyone says to him get to him and he always backs up his bragging with his cooking.

LOL still the crazy foodgasms but those dishes make my mouth water.
World: The art is solid, the characters are over the top and hilarious add to that the dishes look fantastic, this is a very solid looking Shonen manga. The world building here is in little bits and pieces and much like the previous books the scope of the world is only shown when the story needs it. There is no huge info dumps that would bog down the pacing of the story. The new dorm and the characters are a fun little bit I enjoyed.
Story: The story is moving along as expected, we get to see the place where he lives and the people that make up this quirky dormitory. Everything about this book is about food and this new locale is just the same. The dishes at this place were fun and the I want to try to make some (I think that’s the best thing you can say about this series). The descriptions of the food is over exaggerated but the recipes themselves do look enjoyable. The Don event was fun, it was ridiculous and over the top but the final bowl looks amazing and I really want it. What about the foodgasm and female characters, yeah it’s a thing, it’s very staple Shonen and if you can get around it it’s okay. I feel uncomfortable and giggly at the same time when I see how it’s used.
Characters: Soma is a cliche and that’s fine, this is a Shonen hero and that’s how he is. So are the rest of the characters. So far there has been nothing of depth in terms of them but overall they do serve their purpose to drive this story forward.
It was a fun second arc that had some really mouth watering dishes I kinda want to make.

❝Let's prepare for the battle.❞I really enjoyed Food Wars! Volume 2. It's compelling and eventful, and I love the way the plot is progressing! The second volume is without a doubt more entertaining than the first volume.
I'm already acquainted with the general storyline of the manga because of the anime, but of course the anime is way behind on the manga.
The anime has a very interesting story arc right now, and it's absolutely excruciating for me to wait a week for one episode, so that's why I'm reading the manga!
I still have a long way to go before I catch up though
I'm looking forward to reading the third volume!

Still enjoying this series. Not quite as much as the first volume but still enjoyed it. Felt like a little less was happening and the bride thing and the brief girl-hate (though the b**** thing was well deserved) put me off just a little bit. The new characters are fun getting to know, including a guy who is apparently allergic to clothes. It's just overall a funny and light read, even though the cooking stuff goes completely over my head. Still on board with continuing this series.

Everything that made Food Wars fun started with this volume. In the second volume, you have your school setting, cooking battles, the Polar Star dorm and its inhabitants, and the icy aloofness of Erina Nakiri the tsundere.
The early volumes of Food Wars were really fun to read because the recipes were actually feasible and did not yet reach the realm of the absurd as they did later on. That and the ecchi fanservice panty shots this book was peppered with regularly.

A bit different from the anime. A little more fan-service-y, and also ups the ante on Megumi's adorkableness. I really liked it as she is my favorite character.

ISSHIKI MY BESTAE <3 polar star dorm is so precious to me i swear. i rly enjoy seeing them cook + i get to know more ab food. although im not entirely sure if its 100% accurate lol. megumi and soma's friendship is so cute :( i still hate fanservice tho

*Looks at shelves* Realistic fiction might be a bit of a stretch.
The majority of the story takes place on a high school campus that covers acres of land, with buildings the size of mansions covering it. All for a cooking-focused high school (though they way it works in the story, it honestly seems more like a college - the character designs only add to this effect).
The characters solve various disputes with iron-chef inspired battles, generally ending with a bit of fan-service as a character tries the food experiences a 'foodgasm', transporting them mentally to some other location, where they're generally scantily (if at all) clothed. I do have to give the author some credit here, though - in addition to all the female characters he's had as pin-ups in this and the last volume, he's added some eye-candy for those playing the other team as well (which is actually rather unusual in manga).
Overall it's a good story so far, though (I have a fondness for cooking-based stories). The fan-service is a bit annoying, but tolerable. The characters make for quite an eccentric cast, with a wide range of personalities, and are quite entertaining. The art style is good as well, and the character designs unique, so each character is easy to tell apart.
As an added bonus, the authors include recipes for many of the dishes featured in the book!

And so the hilarity continues with Food Wars part II where we now follow Soma's journey with the Elite school this time settling on school campus dormitory and doing cook offs with the school master chefs.. Ignore the busty blonde on the cover the illustrations don't focus on her or her 'assets' ..still love the way the art portrays the cooking skills and reactions to delicious meals.. 4.5 stars!!

By the second volume, I've come to a point where the fan service doesn't make me uncomfortable anymore. I'm able to ignore it and focus on the plot, which is quite interesting. I like that there are recipes for the food prepared in the Shokugeki. Despite not being able to cook them because I'm a vegetarian, I still loved reading the recipes since it is fun and intriguing to learn about food made in a different country. This manga has makes me want to dine in an authentic Japanese restaurant.

Soooo, finally I finished this volume, and I must admit that I enjoyed it.
In this second volume, Souma goes to the Polaris Dorm, ruled by and elderly woman, and he makes friends. He meets a Toutsuki's Elite Ten Student and he challenges the first student in a Shokugeki, the Toutsuki's traditional one-by-one cooking challenge.
Characters
-Yukihira Soma is the protagonist, who's the son of a cheap restaurant owner. He'sa bit ambitious and he truly trusts his cooking skill, since he has grow in that kind of envoironment. His father suddenly decides to close the restaurant for a couple of years and sign Soma up for Japan's best cooking school, Totsuki Institute. He enters the Polaris Dorm after succeded the skill test.
-Nikiri Erina, also known as God's Tongue, grand-daughter of Totsuki Academy's Director.
-Tadokoro Megumi a fellow student. She's really skilled but she's not self-confident. She also lives at the Polaris Dorm.
-Isshiki Satoshi , Seventh seat Toutsuki Elite ten member.
-Konishi Kanichi founder of the Don Rs club. He was challenged in a Shokugeki by Mido Ikumi.

Nothing really happens in this volume, but it was quite gripping. I love how dishes are meticulously described, and there are recipes at the end /(*^*)/ *insert an emoji of me fangirling about food that I'm not able to cook because I'm not good at cooking*. I'm still enjoying it, so I will read the next volume asap!

In this volume, Soma learns that he doesn't have a clue where the school dorm is at all. After going all over campus to find it, he finally arrives. And yet again faces a cooking trial to be able to move in.
Next he battles the master of beef for the sake of the Bowl Society.
Finally, the dorm is informed that the first year students are required to go to an overnight camp that includes food battles where each day can see students being expelled.

Volume 2 contains chapters 6 - 14 and includes some of the recipes featured throughout. Volume 2 is the continuation of Yukihira Soma's first few days in the Academy, as well as the introduction to some of key characters in the manga. It also features the 1st of many, in what the series is mainly about, Shokugeki or Food Wars.

In this volume of Food Wars, we are introduced to Ikumi Mito (aka "Meat Meat" from the anime). She's basically one of Erina's apprentices who pretty much works for her. Now, this may cause controversy, but I HATE THIS GIRL SO MUCH! BEFORE YOU START YOUR CLAIM SHE- wait never mind. I'll wait until those bits show up in one of the volumes.
Volume 2 is mainly about Soma getting into the Polorias (or Kioksai - I probably spelt those wrong) dormitory and about the potential loss of Bowl Club. I highly doubt I need to explain what that club's about.
If you haven't guessed, Meat Meat handles with meat. But like, good quality meat. And I thought bacon was for royalty, but this girl's over here cutting up A5 beef-
In the end a food war (shokugeki) forms. But I won't go into detail what happens during that.
