Rude Sarcastic Unbending Three words which best described Varyk, King of the Green Dracol. Events in his life taught him to hold his heart back to avoid the pain of loss. To do so, he used his insufferable attitude as protection and it worked. Until fate came into play.
Fierce Determined Loyal Inez is a soldier with the Black Dracol who has no problem saying what she means. Love and mating are for the distant future. Until an act of betrayal causes her path to cross an arrogant King.
Suddenly two opposing forces must find a way to work together to ensure the continuation of the hard fought peace between their kind.
This is a direct sequel of the first book and its story continues here as a seconday one.
One of the eggs (or shells as they call them) is stolen by a madman belonging to the Green clan. So, now finding him and recoverng the shell is Varyk's, King of the Greens.
To aid him, since Rylin and Dara must remain with the other 4 shells, is Inez, Rylin's cousin and Dara's bodyguard.
Varyk is seen by all the other clans ad a jerk. He's always contrary, sarcastic and angry, but as Inez will discover that's a cover for a deeply troubled man.
He and his twin sister has almost died at the hand of their father who got crazy and killed their mother. He was killed and his mantle choose Varyk as next king. But Varyk was a child and unable to contain its power, so his father's counselor kept the mantel for him acting as king. But all that is a huge secret as it is unheard of someone taking a montle for another!
Varyk is feeling very indebted to him, so that when he was given the matle back, he preserved his friends body from death. Varyl and his sister visit him each year in secret cript, unsure what to do: wake him and watch him die, or leave him as he is...
Inez will discover all this slowly, as Varyk fights his attraction for her and denies that Inez is his lira. Inez is a very likable heroine who treats Varyk's idiocy as it deserves! She confronts him constantly and forces him to reconsider! I liked her!
I'm looking forward to the next two books, as I'm most curious about the madness that threatens the unmated kings! :)
I wish I came across this series after all the kings stories have been written! I have waiting for the next books release- it's like dangling candy in front of you but not knowing when you can get the sweet ending! Love what the author has written in all the books I've read! Defiantly a favorite author who has not disappointed! Trust me, you'll quickly become addicted to reading this series!
I really love MichelleHoward’s books - each and every one! I was so excited to learn she had written a second Draco novel and I’ve positively devoured it in a single day, it’s that good.
This book tells the story of Varyk, the king of the green sect and Inez, cousin to Rylin, the king of the black sect. One of the 5 eggs of Rylin and Dara has been stolen. With the speed with which the event took place, suspicion falls on the Greens as they possess the power to teleport. King Varyk determines it was one of his people and takes off in immediate pursuit.
Rylin authorizes Inez to go after Varyk and assist in the search and return of the egg. After entering the Green territory, Inez stumbles across a very sick and incoherent King Varyk trapped in a pit. After she climbs down to help him, he demands that she have sex with him as that’s the only thing that will help his “Mantle” rise and drive out the poison he has been affected with. (If you don’t know what the Mantle is, try reading this book or the first book, Rylin’s Fire for the explanation.)
Besides being a good mystery and an exciting action book, the book also depicts the growing attraction between Inez and Varyk, for a great HEA. Just try one of Ms. Howard’s books and see if you can resist reading more of them!
3.5 rating. Sorry, but too much sex and not enough story for me. I found myself flipping past some of the sex to get to the story. However, the story part was entertaining. I enjoyed Rylin’s Fire more. Enjoyed the suspense. Varyk and Inez’ story was not as suspenseful. It was more a mission. We learned a lot about the green king. Still very arrogant but there was more to him. Inez was tough. Loved her. Enjoyed the wrapping up of stories from Rylin. Most of my questions from Rylin and Dara”s story answered. I enjoyed Relentless, but the sex was distracting. Felt more like filler. Recommend the series and looking forward to Faris’ story.
This had sooooo many typos. I’m sorry but for a book that’s $5, I expected it to be better edited or to have been at the very least proofread.
The story was meh to be honest. Here they are, chasing this guy and time is of the essence, so what do they do? They go home and have sex. Once that is done ? Yeah, still do nothing but wait. It felt like they didn’t actively do anything to find the bad guy, they just waited. I wasn’t a fan.
Varyk had a very traumatic childhood and an unusual transfer of power. Only by the assistance of a beloved c advisor did he survive. Milans, his twin sister supported him. Inez is a wafrior. Cousin to the King of the Black. When someone kidnaps a child Inez and Varyk, King of the Green work to find the culprit. They fall in love but it is not easy. Loved it!!!!
The King of the Green, battles with the mantle of power. Invited to the hatching of the King of the Black's babies. Then the unthinkable happens ... a Green has stolen one of the eggs. Michelle Howard, thank you for writing this fantastic book. Great read
