USA Today Bestselling Author, ES Carter, lives in Cardiff, South Wales. The home of castles, dragons and folklore.
Her family joke that she was born with a book in her hand, and the urge to write stories soon followed.
At eleven, she won her school's literary prize. At ages fourteen to sixteen - her poetry phase after falling in love with Dylan Thomas and e.e. cummings - she had a few poems published, but life, love and family overtook her dreams, and she was in her thirties when she began the scary journey of self-publishing.
Her debut and internationally best-selling series, 'Love by Numbers', are a set of interconnected stand alone romances, all with varying themes of love. From second-chance to romantic comedy and M/M romance. These stories do not need to be read in order, in fact, she is often guilty of advising readers to start at the last book and work their way back through.
Contemporary romance is not the only genre she writes, her second series, 'The Red Order', is as dark and twisted as you can get, but there is beauty there too if you can open your eyes and look.
With many more stories bursting to be set free, she hopes you stay along for the ride.

"Sometimes flowers grown in cracks. Some people call them weeds. I don't. They're the strong ones. The resilient ones. The ones who survive anything.”

The Definition of Fflur is an emotional coming of age story that has an addicting quality and a fair bit of angst. I really loved this character driven story.

Fflur’s life gets turned upside down as a teenager when her parents divorce. She and her brother Rhys start spending every other week with their dad, and the other with their mom, along with her new beau Max and his son Galen. Galen and Fflur have an instant connection. Once they get over the awkwardness of their situation, they become fast friends. Galen is a little older than Fflur, but they are a pair. I loved some of the scenes when they were younger, watching their friendship build. It was one of my favorite things about the book.

As they get older, things get more complicated. The feelings of friendship they’ve always had turn into more. It’s always been more right there beneath the surface. When those feelings come out, it’s confusing for them both in different ways.
"I know you didn't choose to have me in your life. I know all of this was out of your control, but if I had a choice, Fflur, if anyone had bothered to ask me what I wanted, I would have picked you.”

A romance between Fflur and Galen would be forbidden in more ways than you’re aware at the start. But they can’t help the feelings between them. Instead of giving in to them, Galen starts to distance himself. As his music takes off, Fflur starts college and they start to grow apart. A tragedy in their family will bring them back together.

The romance element of this book wasn’t my favorite part, it was the friendship and the family ties. Families come in all shapes and sizes and I loved this family. There were a few things about Galen and Fflur’s romance I wasn’t crazy about, which is why this wasn’t a 5 star read for me, but overall I still really enjoyed the book! I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

Disclaimer: Copy provided by the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of the most drama-filled, cute, angsty, taboo, mind-fucking romances I have read in a long, long time. But most importantly it was a story about family, which really had me feeling stuff. I don’t think this story will be for everyone out there as most romances out there dah, and the author knows it, but she owns it and I love how unapologetically she was saying she knows there are gonna be people who love and others who hate it. I happen to fall with those who highly enjoyed the book.

We follow Fflur through her teen years until she is an adult, after her parent's divorce and family secrets come to surface. Is the story of a very unconventional family, based on lies and how after many obstacles the people in it make it work. Now the secret made me connect to Fflur so tightly, I went through the same journey of confusion, anger and finally acceptance. It has been a long time since I have connected so much with a character from so different background and situation from me.

This book for certain has a very unconventional romance, partially because is a taboo romance between step-siblings, and actually it has more mind-fucking twists on top. Twists I was not exactly a fan of but I did applaud the author to surprise me when I didn’t expect it . This is also my very first new adult book with the male character being bisexual, which I was pleasantly surprised by. I will say although the tension and angst this relationship gave me was like a drug I was not a huge fan of how long the whole thing dragged. And as always I always wish our heroine was a bit more independent and detached but I could see why she wasn’t. I did enjoy how the author executed the hate-to-love trope, in which I could actually feel the hatred and the reason why, and how their friendship finally developed to love.

What the author did so well for me was connecting me to the characters and the story as a whole. Her writing was descriptive and touched my emotions. I felt and that’s always my requirement to like something. This book is not entirely focused on the romance between Fflur and Galen. As the author explained in her, not at the end, this is not only one love story but three. Fflur & Galen, Flur’s mom and Max and finally the unconventional love story of a family. And I loved this, I was invested in the storyline as a whole. All this makes the novel a very refreshing and unique storyline from all the books I read this year.

Finally, some punctual stuff that I disliked will be tagged with spoilers because well they have to do with some twists.

For me is very difficult to recommend a taboo read without having a general knowledge of the taste buds of the person I am recommending it to, and I know all of my friends have such different tastes but I will try. If you like an addicting step-siblings/ taboo romance, you are a fan of drama and family shenanigans, stories that follow characters through an extensive period of years, then I would tell you to pick this one up.

Fflur's heart was shattered when she found out her supposedly happy family was nothing but an illusion. Her parents' divorce bred contempt that quickly eating her from the inside. That was until the boy that was supposed to be the enemy started to warm up her heart.

Galen was everything that Fflur was not. With an infectious grin that could brighten up any dark day, his charm and talent helped him breezed through life. Their animosity turned to friendship and begging for more, but what brought them together could very well be the reason that could pull them apart.

I’ve let him take comfort in our friendship. Because that’s all it is and can ever be. Despite the gnawing ache in my heart.

When I first met Galen, I thought he was going to be a typical cocky asshole. But that notion was quickly squashed by his kindness and patience.

“Wishing is for naïve kids that blew on dandelions and whispered their dreams to the breeze. Wishing is for a boy and a girl who picked buttercups with glowing yellow skin. We aren’t kids anymore, Gal. We don’t get to wish.”

Fflur was quiet and quirky. Some of her actions were downright kooky, like her "flowers and secrets" thing [insert awkward smile gif lol!] but somehow I could relate to her view of life - specifically the dandelion significance.

I may have laid myself bare for Galen before, but this is him doing it for me now. Every word. Every syllable. Every soul deep note.

The story was weaved with pain and angst throughout the book which is something I've always enjoy in my reading. I like how their relationship developed organically. There was more friendship than romance, but that's what made their story meaningful.

The Definition of Fflur is an evocative family tale of acceptance and forgiveness. It would appeal to readers looking for a semi taboo slow burn romance.

"Sometimes flowers grown in cracks. Some people call them weeds. I don't. They're the strong ones. The resilient ones. The ones who survive anything."

The definition of FFlur teaser_Fotor.jpg 4-08-18

Fflur grew up in a happy home until it wasn't.  At age fourteen her parents split up; the new changes and her mother's betrayal was so bad that left Fflur and her brother angry and upset.  After a while they finally started to accept that now they had two families and not just one.

"Sometimes everything has to break for something new to be made, something better, something stronger."

Galen and Fflur were both complete opposite from each other.  Galen was older and his charm won Fflur's friendship over.  As much as she hated to feel happy when she was with him she couldn't helped it.  Soon their friendship becomes much more than they expected and everything becomes complicated when they are forced to go apart.

"We're both connected by this fragile thread, yet both going in opposite directions."

I really enjoyed this story; it takes place from when Fflur is fourteen and then up until she's in her twenties.  The path's for her and Galen was very long and very painful.  I was actually kind of upset with her; I wanted her to be stronger or more independent but I understand why she was that way.  I was angry at Galen for all the wasted time but again I understand him and so this book ended up causing so much pain and heartache but overall it was very well written with so many awesome feels I wouldn't have had it any other way.

"When your foundations are rocked so irrevocably, it's not something you get over. Even years later, the aftershocks can still be felt."

The Definition of Fflur is about family, forgiveness and accepting to learn how to deal with life struggles and changes in life. This book would be appealing to readers looking for a angsty romance story.

Exciting news about Fflur!
TDOF is no longer available as an ebook and paperbacks will no longer be sold after Sept 11th.
TDOF is a new adult book, but the reworked version coming soonish will be for young adults.

Keep your eyes peeled for THERE WAS THIS BOY. It will have additional scenes, some new characters and a few chapters from Galen's POV.

This isn't a whole new story, but a reworking of the original.
If you've read TDOF you will not need to purchase TWTB.

If you're part of my reader group, Eli's Elite, you will know this has been coming for a few months. There are some very valid reasons for the update, and, dare I say, very exciting reasons ;)

""Do you regret it?" I ask him. His forehead rolls against mine. "No, I could never regret anything with you.""

While writing this review, I'm still shaken and thinking about this book my gut still wrenches and my heart still aches. It's only a few ours between finishing the book and writing this review. And I know, no matter how hard I try, I probably can't do this great book justice with my review. But I try.

"He holds onto me so tight that it hurts. I can feel it all; his pain, his fear, and gives it over to me willingly. I am Galen's flower."

The Definition of Fflur has all the feels, stirs all feelings you can possible think of. Right from the beginning I got caught in its delicate woven webs of emotions. Throughout the whole book my heart ached and I had constantly burning eyes threatening tears to fall.

"One night will never be enough. One night will have to last us a lifetime."

The story of Fflur and Galen and their family pulled all my emotional strings and played them well like a rock star plays his guitar. My mind was in a constant state of denial, because it couldn't believe what it just read. So many things happen on so many different and sensitive layers, touching your soul deeply.

"We kiss. We touch. We grasp. We pull, We stumble. But he never lets me fall."

E.S. Carter worked magic with this book. She handled so many topics so perfectly well, created a family with different and deep layers of love. The characters come to live so vividly, you feel every heart ache, every moment of happiness as your own.

"Let's blow wishes on the wind and try to make them a reality. Let's see beauty where others see weeds."

Fflur is a quirky and easily lovable girl which loves flowers, they are her sanctuary as much as music is for Galen. Their family doesn't meet any standards or ideals, but it's packed with deep and true love as much as understanding for each other. Their story is about loss as much as it is about love and what should be important in life.

"My Fflur, my every flower and the definition of all that's good in my world."

The Definition of Fflur is heartbreakingly and breathtakingly beautiful and it put itself easily on my All-Time-Fav-List. Thank you so much Eli for this deeply soul touching story. I can't even tell you what this book did with me.

"Love, even if that someone can't love you in return. Live, don't waste time on the little things."

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

The Definitions of Fflur by ES Carter is an absolute masterpiece. And I don’t say this lightly. I was so invested in these phenomenal characters and storyline that I did not want to move. I just wanted to immerse myself in their world and watch the whole picture unfold.

Carter is a rare gem. She is one of those authors who can make you relate to any character she writes. She draws her readers in to the point you feel as though you can envision the scenes taking place around you. And she doesn’t just pretty it up. She gives you the raw truths with honesty and brute and depth. And most of all she gives you the feels. The kind that when you finish her work, you still feel as though it’s a part of you.

That’s what The Definitions of Fflur now is. It’s a part of me, and it will continue to make an impact of my life for years to come.

So, do not wait. Grab this stunning book, and immerse yourselves in the lives of Fflur and Galen, and all the supporting characters who come to life in this extraordinary book.

“Sometimes flowers grow in cracks. Some people call them weeds. I don’t. They’re the strong ones. The resilient ones. The ones who survive anything. And I need a strong flower, a warrior flower to help me right now.”

E.S. Carter is a new-to-me author and when I read the synopsis of The Definition of Fflur, I was intrigued. This is a heart-breaking, twist your heart story and I adored Ms. Carter's writing. Filled with the elements of love, family, hope, and finding your way through this crazy thing we call life, The Definition of Fflur was a beautiful story.

Fflur was an amazing character, I loved her immediately!! I wasn't sure I'd like Galen at first, but God, he turned out to be one of my favorites. The secondary characters added so much to the story. Once I started, I couldn't wait to see how it would all turn out. Again, fantastic writing, a unique plot, and the perfect amount of angst.

First, I will allow you to let that sink in what you read above. Because truly, if a blurb checks off all my no-no rules when selecting a book, it's right there in front of your eyes.

~ It's a story of someone under the age of 25. YA and me are a no.
~ It's a story that is going to have some pretty heavy angst. No hearts and rainbow unicorns, and I'm out.

But what if I get off the high horse of self imposed pickiness and actually gave the book a chance? Seriously, didn't I JUST complain about insta-love haters in a blog post? Now, in full disclosure, I did beta read the story, and Ms. Carter gave me the opportunity to say no. Yet, I decided to take a chance on this awkward old soul who is the center of probably the most wonderful story that will grace your heart and mind. My earlier initial thoughts were radically changed:

~ It's a story of a girl trying to understand her world after it all comes apart. How it molds and shapes her as the reader experiences her life in coming of age.
~ It's a story that will evoke a lot of feelings as you read: anger, shock, sympathy, loss, understanding and most of all great love.

Many have asked and I have answered firmly: Yes, there is a HEA. I know as a reader, Ms. Carter put me through hell - read that as yes she ACTUALLY made me cry - but there is a happily ever after in the end. I would never steer my fellow book friends into a non-HEA.

But did you catch that? She made me cry. The person who watched Titanic and asked when the people drown. That piece of information should make you rethink any decision not to read this story. If someone's words can touch me so profoundly to move me to tears, it is well worth your time.

ES Carter creates a world where your mind travels there. The characters play out their lives with vivid imagery. Her words are beautiful and brilliant. As a reader, you want to reach out to Fflur, counsel her in each misstep, hold her when she breaks, and praise her when she grows resilient.

I think I'm done. Because honestly, there is nothing else that I can find that will tell you why you should read this story. It is something to be experienced, treasured, and most of all - shared with all your book friends. In short...Buy The Book.

This is an emotional read, looking at relationships, love, loss and forgiveness. There are a lot of elements to the story, the family as it grows and develops and the different forms of love that bloom within it.

Fflur is quirky, and sweet but she has an inner strength that shines, I admire how she knows who she is even at a young age. Her friendship with Galen comes from a shaky beginning where lies are exposed and they are surrounded by conflicts, from this friendship strong bonds are created and you can see the difference between this and her relationship with Rhys.

For me, some of the most poignant moments were between Max and Fflur, they have some conversations that really hit you in the feels.

I cried. A lot! Thats unusual for me with YA/NA but ES Carter always seems to reach a depth of emotion with her stories and this one was no different. I loved it!

I've had this book on my kindle for ages - and with no new ARCs over the holidays, I finally had the time to read it. And I loved it!
I just found out that it's not available on amazon anymore because it's being released as a slightly changed YA book soon. THERE WAS THIS BOY will be the new title, and there will be some little extra thingies in it, like a bit of Galen POV! I think I might read it again once it comes out.
But back to this book.
I didn't have any idea what to expect when I started.
And what I got was a very sweet and adorable and heartbreaking young/new adult/coming of age rock star love story.
I loved Fflur and Galen and all the others too. The parents were amazing - even though they hurt their kids a lot with everything in the beginning.
I loved the friendship between Fflur and Galen and how he just gets her and her need/love for flowers.
I kinda hated Galen a bit here and there for his decisions. And I also kinda hated the second thing that stopped them from being together. I'm totally okay with the step-sibling thing, but the other thing was a bit too much for my tastes.
BUT I still loved how it all turned out in the end. I cried a lot. But it was a really sweet book.
I can't wait to see this on Netflix or the big screen one day!!

description

The only thing that bothered me a bit - stopped my reading flow - were the many many typos and mistakes. Another editor should've gone over this book. Also - not a mega fan of the über-british expressions like SHE WAS STOOD BY THE TABLE. Ugh, no idea why I hate it so much - and we are in Wales, so it should be totally ok for me, but I just hate it.
I would've loved the book sooo much more as an american love story!

If it were possible, I would give this story 10 Stars!!!

E.S. Carter has proved she is able to write pretty much anything, with this wonderful YA/NA novel. It touched me on so many levels, I don't know where to start with this review, so I'll try with points.
1. Writing as a teenager. Difficult in itself, but with each word and situation covered, I heard the voice of a twelve/ thirteen-year-old girl who grew into a beautiful and intelligent teenager. If I didn't know better, it could have been my 15-year-old daughter I was listening to at one point. Just the simple details were covered so beautifully. Buying make-up in Boots, contouring (which I still don't understand), boys, homework and the language. Teen language is different and E.S. got this down to a tea.
2. A family split. I've read many books about families splitting but nothing quite captures that heartbreak and anger. Again, E.S. has got it right. I felt Fflurs initial blame towards Max, the new man in her mother's life and her lack of understanding as to why. How could her mother do such a thing and split their ideal family apart? It's a look at a modern family through a child's eyes and the innocence of Fflur's reasoning behind it is captured and explained to perfection. I felt it all. Even the parts about her brother and his reactions were just spot on.
3. Introducing new family members. The torment at seeing a parent with someone else is bad enough, but then to introduce another sibling? Again, this situation is described to perfection to a point where I felt her anger and jealousy towards her new brother.

Bravo E.S. You did an amazing job with all the feels on this part, then...oh my sweet Lord, a relationship that goes beyond the realms of sibling affection. As a reader, it's a difficult one, you want this for them, then you don't, but then you have to ask, why not? What harm can it do?

At this point, I'm babbling and in danger of spoiling it all, because I want to tell you how this book made me feel on another level. I won't do that, but I will say that The Definition of Fflur is to date, my personal best YA/NA read EVER. I wouldn't be surprised if it was, in fact, my best read of 2018 because it hit all the spots for me. I want to sing from the rooftops about this gorgeous, intelligent, well-written, heartbreaking love story of teen infatuation, fascination and love. I could gush for hours but instead, I'll say it has everything. IT IS EVERYTHING. PLEASE READ IT.

The Definition of Fflur is one of those stories that is heartbreaking and uplifting in turns. It deals with real life, real love and some really hard decisions.

“No matter where I go, you follow. I’ve travelled the world these last few years, and you’re still in every flower I see.”

I absolutely loved quirky heroine, Fflur. She has always been different and a loner, but when her family seems to be falling apart she turns to the flowers that have always been a source of solace to her.

“Wishing is for naïve kids that blew on dandelions and whispered their dreams to the breeze. Wishing is for a boy and a girl who picked buttercups with glowing yellow skin.”

This story is part angsty, coming of age tale, part slightly taboo but epic romance. It is a story that is all consuming and it was so easy to get caught up and be unable to put it down from start to finish.

This book is just wonderful! It starts with a young Fflur, and her brother having their life torn apart by their parents seperation. We follow some of Fflur's moments in life until she's a young adult.

ES Carter has such wonderful way with words. This book is not just a taboo-ish romance, it's so much more. This book is Fflur, it's life with all it's good times and bad. It's love and family, albeit a family living in separate homes. This book defines Fflur - it's brilliant!

This was one of those books that I couldn’t quite decide about. There is just so much thrown into it but it did all work together (apart from one part that I still can’t get my head around, but no spoilers here).

It worked together so much that I couldn’t stop reading once I got to about 70%. Bus read on the way home, became sit down on the sofa when I got in - emptying the dishwasher had to wait.

Fflur is devastated by the separation of her parents, even more so that she has to split her life between living with dad and living with mum Jenny, her new man Max and his son Galen. Fflur finds her comfort in flowers and little by little she and Galen become friends.

ES Carter gently builds the relationship between Fflur and Galen, then throws in a few spanners to mix it up and keep the reader on their toes.

Apart from the one plot thread that I didn’t think fit with the character, I thought it was a lovely read.

I have mixed feelings about The Definition Fflur. I’ll start off with it’s extremely well written and that’s always a plus for me. It also gave me some really deep feels. It had wonderful moments of life, love, family, friends, acceptance and forgiveness. But it also had, in my opinion, a few unnecessary plot twists that actually threw me off and took me out of the story. I was still questioning one of those twists all the way up until the end of the story. So this isn’t your conventional romance and won’t be for everyone, but it is a story of love in all its many forms and that’s what reading romance is all about.

This was a book I received via the Quirky Blind Date With a Book group on Facebook and I’m so glad I did. Had I seen the title of this online I probably would have thought it wasn’t for me. Receiving books blind has given me the opportunity to discover some brilliant books I would otherwise have missed out on.

The story is well written, the storyline held my attention throughout, and the characters were so well written. The anger from Fflur toward her mum is, in particular, very well described.

Great story.

This review is hard for me to write. I’m still emotionally wrecked from the rollercoaster this book took me on.

From the outset, I felt a strange affinity for Fflur, the main character, who tells her secrets to the flowers. I’m not sure what it was specifically that drew me to her, but once I’d picked the book up I found it almost impossible to put down again.

The story drags you kicking and screaming through painful moment after painful moment, with writing that sears right down to your soul. We see pain, loss and loneliness intimately through the eyes of this character you can’t help but love. I laughed with her, cried with her, felt her heart splitting open so many times.

At the centre of the story is a fractured family just trying to get through difficult times and we’ve all been there. It was utterly relatable and soothing in a way to be able to heal through the lives of these characters.

And Galen... be still my beating heart. I have a new book boyfriend, people, and his name is Gal. I heart him so hard. Seriously. I want to sink into those lawn green eyes of his and let him sing me lullabies every night.

Ever since I first opened this book, I’ve been recommending it to friends and family alike. It’s one of my favourite reads of this year so far, and I’m so very glad I decided to pick this book up. I can’t wait to try out more of this author’s work.

Five heartbreakingly beautiful stars
Flipping heck! Talk about emotional. I normally keep away from anything that will break my heart, however I had no prior warning about The Definition of Flfur. ES Carter is a go to author for me, I just jumped in head first. More fool me. It’s a long time since I have cried so much reading a book, a book that I loved, so much so that I could not put it down. I loved Flfur, I loved all her family, blood and extended, and I loved all the complicated relationships that ensued. The story follows Flfur from the age of 12 when her life as she knows it falls apart, and her perfect family becomes utterly and completely dysfunctional in her young eyes. Wonderful writing and a beautifully broken story, with so much feeling. The flower references were the icing on the cake, just perfect. A full five stars from me. I received and advanced copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.

Before I write my review I need to preface it with the fact that this is not the type of book that I would normally read, but I won it and I gave it a try, and I must admit that, although there were plenty of things about this book that I enjoyed and loved, it is still not a book that I would have read, and in the end, it was not a book that I enjoyed from beginning to end.

The Definition of Fflur, is a very original, complicated, and extremely complex story, with characters that will either make you love them or want to shake some sense into them. I thought E.S. Carter's writing was excellent. She made me feel for the characters, their predicament, and the very tangled situation that they were living in and trying to maneuver within. The first half of this book was absolutely brilliant for me. I could not put it down and I wanted to know so much more about Fflur, who was such a different character from any other character that I had ever read about before. I loved the fact that she did not do what every typical teenage girl did. I loved that she lived in a world of flowers, and did not care about what anyone thought of her. She was free--free to be herself. And then I was introduced to Galen, and I fell head over heels in love with him. I loved how he opened his arms to Fflur and just accepted her for who she was, no questions asked. What a talented musician Galen is!! And E.S. Carter did a masterful job of unfolding the absolutely beautiful story of friendship and love between Galen and Fflur. I was rooting for them, and then, in what I call the second half of the book, the revelations were revealed, and I just could not continue to root for them. It was at that point that I felt the book took a turn and things started to come out that I felt made the story a bit unrealistic, uncomfortable, at least for me, and it began to feel as though way too much was being thrown into the story for shock value. I also started to feel as though Fflur's character had changed, and that instead of being the independent girl she was in the first part of the book, she became extremely whiny and annoying. I felt like her character was reverting while every other character in the story was growing. I have to say that I wanted more of Fflur and Rhys' dad's story. I really liked him, and felt as though his story was not given enough detail or time. I felt like Fflur and Rhys' mom was given way too much of a pass in regards to her behavior and what occurred. I really liked Max, Galen's dad, and his story broke my heart and made me cry. I would have liked a little more on Rhys and his feelings about a lot of the things that were occurring in the story, because, he, too, was a very integral character in this extremely emotional story. And Rhys totally provided the comedic element to this intense story!! I really enjoyed his character.

So, although this was not the book for me, the book was beautifully written and the story was masterfully told through the voices of very original and complicated characters.

I almost died when one of my go-to authors ES Carter sprung this release on us. The cheeky madam really did outdo herself with The Definition of Fflur.

This beautiful story is one that’s raw, emotional and most importantly REAL! It portrayed the real life dilemmas that families go through. Positive and negative. The emotions no matter how raw, were evident on the pages and a credit to this wonderful author.

Excerpt:
Sometimes everything has to break apart for something new to be made, something better, something stronger.

The relationship between Galen and Fflur was fraught initially with two homes colliding, and the teenage angst (between Fflur, her older brother Rhys and the new step brother, and Galen). But, seeing all the characters grow in their own way, through emotive life changing events, also made this story for me. The Fflur we meet at the beginning of this story was just a girl, a teenager, but by the time we leave her, she’s a different person and on her journey to happiness, right alongside her family. The ones she loves.

The connection Fflur has to flowers, was also beautiful and I wanted to mention here. Flowers are what she seeks solace and also almost the only thing she’s able to confess her secrets. Need I mention the beautiful formatting for the chapter headings too?

Excerpt:
“Why do you tell the flowers your secrets?”
“Because they listen, and they keep them.”
“Why do you collect them?”
“To remember.”
.....”They’re not memories, but they hold a memory.”

An angst ridden romance that made me frustrated in the best possible ways, but also cry in sadness. A beautiful sincere story of family, forgiveness, strength, self-discovery, goodbyes and of course; love. There was such a sense of innocence from young Fflur that just endeared her to me instantly. But a sass also. She’s just an amazing girl who captured my heart, and female characters don’t do that often!
I can already sense my book hangover from this beauty of a book, and I sincerely hope I will own this paperback sometime soon!

Final Excerpt:
To me, dandelions are beautiful. Any place there is a pinch of soil or a crack in the pavement they grow. They may be common, and you may be able to find them everywhere, yet one day you’ll look and see a bright, yellow flower bending towards the sun, and the next day you’ll see fluffy clouds full of wishes just waiting to be set free. They get to be more than one thing. They get to be both sunshine and life.

An absolute must read, and it’s a stand-alone too, so I urge all you new and old-time ES Carter fans out there to one click this story right now. You won’t be disappointed.

I'm in awe of this story, and the writing and most of all the characters. I still am a little shaken up over the entire story. I cry a lot when I read. Doesn't mean this is a crying book for you, but there's were so many touching moments in this book that I couldn't stop.

"I know you didn't choose to have me in your life. I know all of this was out of your control, but if I had a choice, Fflur, if anyone had bothered to ask me what I wanted, I would have picked you." My breath sticks painfully in my throat. "What I’m trying to say is,” he continues, his voice strong, his words emphatic. “If we hadn’t been thrown together, in what has to be one of the most ridiculous situations, I think I would’ve found you any way. You were meant to be in my life, Fflur.”

Galen says this to Fflur in a part of the book when they are young, but still had a lot of meaning to the story. Reading this passage was the first time I cried. I could see that Galen truly did love her, but felt that he couldn't do anything about it. Their situation is very unique and could be just wrong in many ways, but they love each other anyway. Only Fflur is truly honest about it, from the beginning.

This book is gut-wrenching, emotional, secretive, and full of love. Just pure love straight from the heart. I voluntarily reviewed this book from the author. It is one of the best books of 2018. I hope you love it as much as I did.

3.5 Call me Flower Stars
description
This book started off really well and it really made your heart for Fflur. It was almost a coming of age story in my opinion. The emotions placed in this book due to divorce, unrequited love and sibling rivalry and friendship are all well done. The rest of the twists and turns don’t work for me. Oddly I have lived almost all the other twists (except the final one) and it was just too much. There was too much going on in this book. Galen becomes the friend she never wanted but they became thick as thieves as children. This book is long so it does not lack in character development and can be considered a taboo romance. There was soooo much angst it hurt my face ha-ha. This book was filled with parts that just confused me in terms of characters I will say the author has a lovely writing style and you really felt you were connected to the story in general there was just moments I didn’t care for. I won’t ruin the TON of other twists in the book because you should be surprised

My mind, my heart, my soul. This one shook my world.

When a book makes you feel connected with the characters, not because you share personalities or experiences but because you are feelings for them and with them, you know you have found a piece of art. Because not everyone has the ability to surprise you with it.

The book this journey takes you in is not an easy one. With every turn of the pages, my heat broke a little bit more. Page by page and piece by piece, I was shattered. I wanted to scream and knock some sense into the characters but that’s the thing, life doesn’t occur as planned or as wished for. It’s a journey filled with ups and downs. And probably, at one point you’ll feel that you’ve had more downs than ups, but aren’t the ups worth it? Where is the challenge in life if you get what you want without work or trouble? There is no denying that the road is filled with rocks that will make you misstep but also, when you go through them, you’ll end up with valuable lessons.

And that’s actually what this story is about. More than an angsty romance, this book represents the beauty of acceptance and forgiveness-

Emotional and meaningful.

4.25 Stars. E.S. Carter is a new to me author and I have to say I lreally enjoyed this beautifully unique love story. This is a story of self discovery, family, and love. Fflur might be quirky in her adoration of flowers and their meanings, but it’s what makes her unique. With her parents separation, mother moving in with Max, she’s angry....more than that she’s hurt. Max’s son Galen, close in age, slowly (and I mean slow burn) befriends Fflur, he understands the situation is not ideal. Galen is such a sweetheart, he loves his family, loves music...and is drawn to Fflur in ways that seem wrong. E.S. Carter takes through the ups and downs of this blended family, you can’t help but love them all. I smiled, I laughed, my heart hurt and I got teary eyed. I will definitely read more by this author
