Description: Sommer McGregor the adopted daughter of werewolves decides to open a catering business and take on a lover. Her best friend and Alpha-in-Waiting, Caleb Masters, is more than willing to help her with that challenge.
The Good: Sommer needs saving, relationship and career-wise, but she resists Caleb’s help. This makes for a surprisingly relatable emotional story. Caleb is a great Alpha. He knows what he wants, and goes after Sommer hard. I also love that they were friends first, passionate lovers second. And their meddlesome family members are both funny and lovable.
The Bad: Caleb’s tail pops out when he’s turned on, which comes off more weird than sexy. And there’s a marking of mate that never really pays off.
The Naughty: Erotic Content, Anal, and forced seduction.
A 2.5. Something was just off with this one. There wasn't really a interesting storyline, nor was there any real build up to the romance. It's just suddenly he's on top of her on the floor of her new business in the first chapter. A detailed background isn't a substitute for interaction. And I really did not like Caleb's character, he was Alpha Annoying. Not to mention a grown man having lusted after a teenager just colors everything a whole shade of awful for me. No thank you.
Sommer has lost her parents when she was only just an infant in a car cash. But it was like a higher power was looking down on her because Alpha Masters, father of Caleb Masters was there when her mother gave her last breath to tell him to keep her safe.
Now in the shifter world they don’t mix human and shifters, it would cause too many problems, and questions. Going against all Alpha Masters decides to keep the baby, and give her to his beta/best friend who just had a miscarriage.
Everything was as perfect as can be and Sommers grows up in a loving, if not over protective home. Now Sommers is all grown up and more in love with her childhood friend Caleb. Sommers is a human compare to everyone else in her community who is a shifter. So she feels like she has to prove herself worth. Even though she is deeply in love with Caleb she feels that she will never have him. Not only because she is human, but because he is next to become alpha of the pack just like his father.
But Caleb do not agree with her thoughts and feels, and is determine to claim what is his. Sommers feels like she has to pull her worth and don’t want any type of help from the alpha, her parents, nor Caleb. She just open her store and is not getting as much business as she was hoping. And as much as everyone keeps telling her let her father help her she is against it. This is something she wants to do on her own without anyone saying that her father is why her business is booming.
And even though she refuses help from those who is more than willing to help, Caleb is not one to let him woman struggle.
I love how Caleb comes into her store super calm but the minute she mention that she may be looking for a partner for herself. He is instantly on her like a rash letting her know that he is the only one that she will see.
Caleb is not playing any games when it comes to her, especially when he has already watch her grown into the woman she is today. He’s already gone through the boyfriends in her life touching what was his and he had more than enough of it.
I really enjoy this book but I can’t say I enjoy Sommers all that much. I feel like she is making her life even harder than it needs to be. Yes I more than understand why she is going about the route that she is. But the fact that she gets so mad when anyone brings up helping her.
Yes as you read more into the story you begin to understand why she is the way she is. But it starts off with you feel understanding, then as the book go on you begin to think, “why is she being so difficult. Getting help even if it’s a little is better than struggle for a failing business. Stop with all this pride and let them help you.” …. Well at least for me it did.
Other than that I love the plot and story line of this book.
2.75 Stars. I expected to like this book a great deal more than I did. It is well written with many likable characters and it has an interesting storyline; but is ruined by a whiny immature 26-year-old self-centered heroine. Sommer's constant gripping about being hampered by over protective parents and not being human and other unfounded reasons for feeling less than is exhausting to the point that Sommer becomes an unlikable nuisance. The story begins after the alpha of the Wulfin Pack and father of the male protagonist, Caleb Master, aides the beta of his pack in adopting and raising Sommer McGregor, the female protagonist and lone survivor of her birth parent's auto accident. The story centers around Sommer and Caleb acknowledging that each has secretly been in love with the other for decades. Caleb is nine years older than Sommer and has been waiting for her to come of age and to establish her independence. Sommer didn't think she had a chance with Caleb because of Caleb being the Alpha-in-Waiting due to take over the pack and is expected to chose another wolf shifter as his life mate-once he decides to end his womanizing ways. When Caleb confesses his love and his desire and intent to have her as his life mate, Sommer doesn't believe him. The storyline drones on and on for over 85% of the book with Caleb's ," I love and want you.." and Sommer's, " Oh no, you can't, I don't believe you, I'm human and unworthy ." By the end, and by the time Caleb and Sommer get their HEA, the reader is given hints that the next love story will involve Caleb's friend, Michael, and Sommer's friend, Tasha. #3 KUR
I would have liked to give this a higher rating but well, here we are. Sommer was stubborn times infinity. Who wouldn't accept help when starting out a business especially one in the food industry? I don't have statistics but I believe almost half of new restaurants end up closing. I understood her reason for wanting to achieve success on her own, but no one who is successful gets there on their merit alone. That aside, the romance in this was pretty dry and a little weird. I think the first love scene with Caleb and Sommer was the oddest I've encountered. He's two-natured so his tail popping out when he's highkey aroused, and the orangey substance he skeeted (yes I said skeeted, taking it back to 2002) on Sommer to mark her to keep other males away, had me frowning like that gif of New York. My feelings on Caleb...he didn't have much of a personality. He was a paint by the numbers character, generic in a sense. There's not much else to say about the plot besides it hit the usual notes. Need to kill time while you wait to see the doctor, or get your car repaired then I recommend this.
Let me start by saying that I am a huge Eve Vaughn fan. I love her novels because of their unique spend on the typical romance plot and the characterization of her characters is always well-developed. However, this novel fell flat for me. While I loved the aloha male persona of Caleb and the vulnerability he displayed for Sommer by openly expressing his desire and love for her, Sommer character was so immature and stubborn that she was very unlikeable. Also, the story ended before the issues with the pack accepting Sommer was even acknowledged, so the ending felt incomplete. I sense this is this beginning of a series , but their wasn’t enough details with the pack or interactions with Caleb’s beta and Sommers friend to even interest me in the second installment.
I somewhat enjoyed this book but Sommer annoyed me so much. I get that you want to be independent and do things on your own but she took that to the extreme. Her friend kept trying to explain to her why she should accept help but she was too stubborn and prideful to listen. The same thing happened with her and Caleb. She was too set in her thought of who he was to open up to him and see how he really felt about her. That's why I couldnt give this book five stars. I am looking forward to Tasha's story and to see how the pack reacts to Sommer being the alphas mate.
Caleb's Women is a good read. I enjoyed the Paranormal IRR genre. It held my interest from beginning to end. The H/h are Caleb and Sommer. They have know each other since childhood. They loved each other as friends but things began to change. I love Caleb because regardless to how doubtful Sommer was he was right there. Their chemistry was hot as were the love scenes. I was so glad when Sommer realized that their one and only was each other😊
If you are looking for a short paranormal romance to read in an afternoon, then this will fit the bill. If you are looking for perfect grammar or behavior of the characters like in classics, then why are you picking up a paranormal romance anyway? I will say that this is an interracial couple and you may find from time to time that the something about the behavior of the heroine, that doesn't seem true to the natural hair brown skinned woman she's supposed to be. It is only minimally distracting though
I liked this story. It was well written and somewhat developed. I just would have liked more interaction between Sommer and members of the pack. I want to know what happened to make her feel they wouldn't accept her as the Alpha's mate despite her being raised in their world. There was a lot of telling and no real showing when it came to that. My other problem was that Sommer couldn't make up her mind when it came to Caleb, and he seemed to push her input things she wasn't necessarily ready for. Some will see this as him being Alpha, but it kind of seemed like he was overpowering her.
This wasn't one of my favorite reads from this author. Sommer was annoying at times. All of that sulking and pride was irritating. I'm glad her dad gave her that come to Jesus moment. Caleb was extremely patient with all of that whining Sommer did. It was an okay read and I've never given any of this authors books three stars, but this one didn't do it for me. Ahhh well, I will just wait for the next chapter in the Kyrakis series. Or maybe Tasha and Cakeb's best friend Michael will get a better book
I really enjoyed the characters, especially the dads. I wish I had fathers like that, Caleb and Sommer are such a good couple. Caleb's passion runs so deep for Sommer, had me wishing I could find a love like that. Love the book, would love to read about Caleb and Sommer friend Michael and Tasha. That would be a very interesting book. Thank you for your stories hope to read more from you.
i have been flirting with this book for a while... and i finally read it . I wasn’t disappointed, i love Caleb; Sommer, however was getting on my nerves with her idea of “independence/make it on her own business woman “, glad to see she finally get it... every one needs a little help, to achieve success you will need help and have to use “whatever”means necessary. Great read!!
I hardly ever leave not so good reviews but this one. I really really tried to like Sommer but she was like a child. The story is basically every one telling Sommer she's ungrateful and she doesn't get it to the last chapter. Caleb, I loved him but he wasn't Alpha enough for me. He just whined about Sommer most of the book. I think Eve is an amazing author and I've loved most of her books but this one was not it for me.
Lovely story , really easy to read. Sommer was a bit too stubborn for my liking and if she had talked to Caleb as he was originally her friend, so she should have been able to talk to him, the story probably would have taken another route. Nevertheless, I liked Caleb and the way he loved her......
This is an author I had no prior knowledge about until I asked the members of SK Lessly’s Alpha Addicts on FAcebook. It was a good read although I skipped some of the pages when she was talk to her friend ‘Tasha’. Overall, it was a thoroughly entertaining story. I plan on reading more from this author to gain a better connection with her writing style.
I wanted so much more from this book. Sommer was annoying as hell, she felt so young to me. Refusing help in your new business is a terrible idea!! Also I hated that there was all this talk about him being a wulfen but we didn’t learn anything. It felt like I was reading a story that was part two in a series or something
I enjoyed this book about Sommer and Caleb. I loved Summer's strong will to make her business a success and I loved that Caleb wanted to help her create that success. I'm happy how the cake together and eventually talked out their issues after the misunderstanding.
Sommer pissed me off to no end. But a lot of women are like this especially black Women’s and this a prime example of how good men are pushed away. I took a lot of things for this story which is a good think. It’s a must read.
Is this the last of this series? Or will we learn more about their life? And did her best friend find love? The typo's were off putting in some places as well as the added words
This could have been easily 5⭐ if the heroine wasn't such a dodo. I can't stand flip floppers or weak minded females. That being said i loved that caleb knew what he wanted and wasnt afraid to fo after it.
I love a good paranormal romance. It's hard to find a well written bwwm paranormal romance with a good storyline, decent editing and not so full of sex that it gets boring. I hope there are more books coming set with this pack. Read this book!
I gave the rating I did, ONLY because there is a lot undone and unsaid in this book. There is a second book that's in here. Please further the plot about what happens when Brandon announces his mate and how the friends of friends come together.
I never read any books from this author. I passed up this book many times. I'm glad I read this book Caleb was in love with Sommer . This book was great! Hurry up with part two I know this not the end!
Haste that the female lead was so back and forth and indecisive . Second the author really don't know about the werewolf world. This book was boring and read like high school.
The characters was great for each other fit together. There love for each other was so. Good. The book was to short there has to be a second part please. Tell about their children and their friends up ends please?
Okay read. What I really didn’t like was the heroine. She was annoying AF. I think more could have been said about her human family and the wulfen as a species. Plot become real redundant. Ms. Vaughn has other amazing stories though, so don’t let this one put you off.
Usually Ms Vaughn writes the best novels. So when I saw this book I was totally excited! The book started with the heroine whining about her parents. I thought she would get over her whining. But she didn't, she whined from beginning to end 🤷🏾♀️
