This is a fast-paced drama filled, emotional shifter read. Cortez and Hailey had both been through a lot in their past will they find a way to move forward with each other or will Hailey’s past come back to claim her. Great characters and an entertaining read that really draws you into the story. I really liked it.

How Can You Mend?

I just loved Haley and Cortez's story, so sad and yet so full of hope, belief and love.

Haley has gone into hiding her Ex of years really did a number on her and all she wants is solitude to write, but it's been kind of hard lately, she is restless, especially when she gets a look at that Walker brother come to fix a leak for her, but she begins to wonder if it's the sink, or her that need fixing....LoL But she can't let herself hope, especially with her past and she really can't trust anything with testosterone running through their veins, but he seems so sweet?

Cortez Walker is the youngest of the Walker brothers, but he is a broken bear ever since that fateful day in the mountains. He can't trust his bear afraid that he might not be able to control what he could do. When he sees the sweet Haley, he really wants to run before he loses it, but he senses there is something broken in the sweet girl too and he would love nothing better than to fix it. How can a broken bear hope to rescue a broken human when he can't even rescue himself?

Cortez! Oh how I waited for your story cuteness. You did not disappoint.

RESCUE BEAR is the fourth story in J.K. Harper's Silvertip Shifters series and the first full length, although shortish, novel. The added length was super awesome! It provided a means for Harper to not only add some more depth to her always likeable characters but also a fuller plot. Plus ACTION! This series hadn't had any crazy shifter action yet and I think it was due.

Readers/listeners first learned of Cortez in Hunter's Moon: Quentin. He's considered the crazy screwup of the Walker family. At least that's the impression I got. And then in Taming Her Bear: Beckett it was again pointed out how wild (in a thrill seeker/partier way) he was. Only in this book we find that that's not exactly an accurate depiction of him. That there was a method to his madness. He had a reason for seizing the day all the time. It wasn't what I expected of him. I was thrilled to find out that there was so much more to Cortez.

Haley too was a character that was super easy to care about. I mean who doesn't love a romance writer? 😍 Plus she stands her ground when needed and she knows how to keep a secret. 🤐

I told you there was action in this right? This new (at least to me) aspect of Harper's writing was well received by me. I appreciated the addition to her already fantastic work. There were some OMG and holy $h!t moments too. There was one surprise that despite the foreshadowing I didn't see coming at all. 😲

PET PEEVE ALERT:
1) Due to the magic of whispersync things can be noticed about a book that wouldn't come through on the audio version. Like editing issues. The one that I see most is not knowing when to use God versus god. I found this mistake numerous times.

2) This had a few continuity conundrums. Well really just one, a big one IMO. The horses in this story were said to have been part of the Lodge and on it's property for years however in Mountain Bear's Baby: Shane it was clearly stated that they kept no animals on the property. I had made a note of it at the time so when that part came up it JUMPED out at me. Another continuity thing that bugged me but technically isn't a real issue is that this book starts before Beckett's book and ends after it. I found it weird and didn't really like it.

Yet again Harper has provided a fantastic story for her readers. It's a complete standalone but you'll get more enjoyment from the experience if you fully immerse yourself in the fabulous and wonderful world that the author has created. I know I'm completely enamoured with it.

ABOUT THE NARRATOR:
Beth Roeg gave another smashing performance. I ALWAYS love her narration. She instantly draws the listener into the story with the way she paints a scene with her voice.

SOME THINGS THAT MADE ME SMILE:
'Mr. Hottie Forest-Smelling McSexypants'

'King Lear the grumpy sorrel gelding, who Cortez was sure was perpetually grumpy because he'd only been gelded a few years ago and probably remembered his stallion days with frustrated longing'

'F@¢king fried $h!t on a shingle.'

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I own this ebook and the audiobook, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I have bought the whole series in ebook and filled out my collection of the audiobooks for this series too!

This is the third book in the Silvertip Shifters series. I own 24 ebooks by J.K., and now 6 audiobooks. This is for adults only due to the steamy content. This audiobook is about 5 hours long or the ebook which is about 210 pages long.

Haley is house sitting for the Walkers. She is human, but she knows about shifters. She is a writer, and she has a past she is trying to get away from including her ex. Cortez is trying to forget the past and an accident that occurred. They are trying to figure things out. There are some misunderstandings and some trouble. This was a great story. I couldn’t put it down. Same narrator and she does a great job. I really like the Silvertip Shifters and wonder when I will the matriarch and patriarch make an appearance because they have been on vacation the whole time so far. I can’t wait to see whose story is next.

I highly recommend to any bear shifter fans because it is a great series!

THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS! BYPASS THIS REVIEW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!

This story revolves around Cortez and Haley, a human writer who is house-sitting for Patriarch and Matriarch Walkers, heads of the Silvertip Werebear clan.

For starters, I think this was a better-composed book with some decent action/adventure through still formulaic. But I was far more satisfied, feeling "full". I guess that's means there was more balance in the storyline than the previous three books. Whoa!! (Notice how I spelled it? W-H-O-A? Not W-O-A-H! I have no clue who started that trend. It's pathetic!...) Hey! My Kindle Cloud Reader says this novel was 199 pages! (Amazon reports 214, but that's close enough for me considering font size changes, etc.) Well, of course it contained a better story. We have more pages devoted to plots and subplots! More world-building. More revelations about what is it to be a therian, what it takes to become a therian.

Continuity was maintained, considering that this book had to match the previous three. It also had to match the action found in Taming Her Bear as we had simultaneous storylines from different POVs. And J.K. Harper did it justice.

I was very sympathetic to Cortez and Haley. Cortez for his search-and-rescue experience and Haley for her writer's career. I did not uncover any continuity issues there. The editing wasn't bad. The Great Fighting scene had decent choreographics compared to other indie writers I've read. (Talk about calling out for the cavalry!) But as a reader, I already knew how this was going to turn out... sadly. For the potential I can see in this writer, I know I'll be getting an Happily-Ever-After rather than a happy-for-now ending. So this is definitely a book to read if you want brain candy.

If you have KU, definitely read this for brain candy's sake.

This series is very slowly getting more intense. Getting a little deeper into who the Silvertip Shifters are and how they live. But it still hasn’t gotten too heavy and overwhelming. This time around we meet Cortez who I think it’s just delicious. His love interest is a pretty cool chick and her own right just because she’s not ditzy. I loved reading the Little naked bear cub and then little naked boy scene. It was hilarious and sweet.

Good story and flowed easily. Liked the characters and may follow up with Riley's story. Have not read first two books yet. Haley and Cortez made a good couple. Would have liked little more development of the characters but still relatable. Both Haley and Cortez had things in their past that made them hesitate for a new relationship but were still ready to try.

Town full of interesting people that you want to read about. Sex scenes were put in where they fit with the story line which makes a book better. Very enjoyable.

Haley Adams was typing up the final scene in her book, knowing it was perfect, when a loud pounding on her door startled her. Dressed in ratty pajamas at 6:30 a.m., she didn’t intend to change clothes for her landlord when he hadn’t even called first! He had to fix a leak upstairs, but this was really early! When she opened the door, however, there was a very huge man standing there, toolbox in hand. After they stared in shock at each other, he finally told her he was the landlord’s brother, Cortez. Haley was house-sitting his parents’ home while they spent a year touring on their 3rd honeymoon.

They joked back and forth as Cortez headed for the stairs, but he offhandedly dismissed her working so hard at writing instead of having fun and it hurt her. When he came downstairs again, she told him off, only to see him turn serious and show that he had experienced similar pain and may have had a dark past like hers. But as she got to know him, she wished he knew how much she trusted him and how safe he made her feel. She would need that strength that she found in him to face down her vicious ex-husband who wasn’t yet finished with his cruelty toward her.

This is a great book. Two damaged people need to regain their sense of self-worth and value. There were painful events in their lives that needed to be dealt with before they could move on. Would they be able to heal each other? Would they be able to stand up to their past and realize there is a new path out there for them if they trust and love each other? You won’t want to miss this book. It’s a really good story line, well paced, and the characters are truly likable. Get your copy and see what the future holds.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Cortez and Haley have both had events happen that have shaded how they view themselves, even trusting their own instincts is in question these days. Neither was looking for a special attraction. After all, Haley is human while Cortez is a bear shifter, so they weren’t looking for sparks flying every which way but they certainly were. Soon those embers will flare into flame as Haley and Cortez get closer and begin to realize what they are to each other – mates. But danger also surrounds them. It wont be long before everything they hold dear is threatened when Haley’s past returns and the present they have together is tied in with it.

There are some delicious twists in Rescue Bear, and I’m looking forward to seeing where they might eventually lead – but that’s for the future. Cortez and Haley make an intriguing couple. Each is fighting their own demons but together they can overcome so much more. I liked them both and enjoyed their story very much. We’ll get a glimpse of couples we’ve met before and the hint of other attractions going on as well. The villain in this case was truly demented and vile – and deserved everything he got. Engaging sexy couple, tight knit community, danger to be faced, everything that fuels my love for Shifter Romance. I would happily recommend Rescue Bear and this series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.

To me, this is J.K.'s best story yet. I really loved the story and I would gladly give it 10 stars if I could. Haley and Cortez seem to be poles apart in their attitudes, but both are trying to come back from shocks in their lives. Haley has determined that she needs to concentrate on work, work, work while Cortez feels that life is too short and should be celebrated with fun, fun, fun. Cortex feels guilty that he could not save his friends from being caught in an avalanche and Haley was betrayed and almost destroyed by her vicious ex.
Then Haley's ex shows and he has been turned into a mountain lion shifter or as he and his snotty shifter friends call themselves, Panthers. I call him Psycho Kitty because he is really weird and is determined to get Haley back under his control. Cortez and his friends rescue Haley and destroy her ex and some of his nutty friends.
The action and the romance are both great and I really like how Haley and Cortez slowly come to realize that they are not at fault for the things that happened.
I was given an Advance copy of this book and am freely and voluntarily writing this review.
Actually I liked the story so much, that I bought it.

This book is about Haley whose ex husband has left her broke, and devastated! Her friend Pixie and her parents try to pull her together. When she gets a house sitting job in a Colorado town with shifters and humans she thinks this is her new start! Trying to write a book and restart her career as an author she meets Cortez a bear shifter! Cortez has his own problems! Working as a part of a search and rescue team two of his human friends get hurt and he blames himself! This book had plenty of romance, and unexpected action. The characters were well written. The clan and family all had different relationships with each other and different jobs as they run a family lodge! You could tell some family members had troubles of their own and different ways to solve them but in the end they are family and stick together! It had an original story line not like some of the shifter romance books. It was an easy read! I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series.

Cortez anf Haley

Haley moved to Deep Hollow to housesit for a year. She is a writer who is trying to get her life back after a disastrous marriage. Her ex did nothing but use her for five years then decided he didn't need her anymore and divorced her.
Cortez has problems of his own. He was a leader who allowed human members of his crew to get hurt. Now he has pulled himself away from everyone because he doesn't trust his judgement anymore.
Cortez and Haley meet because the house that she is sitting in is his parents'. He comes over to fix a leak and thinks she is very pretty. They both feel comfortable with each other to eventually tell each other about their problems. Her ex show up to cause more problems though.
Things eventually resolve themselves and we get a hea ending. I love the appearance of past characters in the family. This is a recommended series in my eyes if you like strong family connections with shifters and the love of mates.

Must Read

Ok ok I will admit, I read this out of order, but each is a standalone. Now I will go back and read books 1 & 2 before moving further.
Wow just freaking WOW! I highly enjoyed J.K. Harper's writing style. This is a totally different concept on Shifters then what you my be used to. But you will LOVE it. This book is about Harper and Cortez, both broken in their own way. One is dealing with a tragic accident, one overcoming verbally abusive relationship. A town that half know if shifters, a lodge in the winter plus oh yes an actual sleigh ride with jingle bells. This book was fast paced, love the way it was written, had laughs, huge smiles, a few tears, a couple "crap no!" moments all rolled into the perfect present for a writer or reader ( got to read this to understand the writer part hahaha little inside joke) what are you waiting for, go one click this and start a whole new outlook on Shifters

Rescue Bears by J.K. Harper 5 Stars*****

Ooh such a good oohy, gooey, makes your heart pound story!!

Cortez is greiving and feeling devastated inside while his Bear is so angry it's scary. I really felt sorry for him, he has the biggest heart.

Haley is just a doll, not only is she an aspirring writer but also a survivor of domestic abuse, sometimes mental is worst than physical as is her case. He ex really did a number on her worth and self esteem. So sad.

Their road to their own recovery, from forgiveness to acceptence to true love to heal inside comes to a head when trouble comes to town. Sweet.

A Beautiful and Exciting Shifter Love Story.

Mature readers, some strong language and sexual content.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book by its author. Reviewer for Nook Books and More Blog.

OK so they're not great big teddy bears unless you happen to be their mate then they'll play Winnie the Pooh all day long.....if you make their mates scared? Oh boy you'd better run and have a tanker full of bear spray and even then that's really not gonna help!
I really really really loved this book. Why? Because Haley and Cortez are definitely more human than most.....meaning that they each has a past that leaves them feeling broken and unworthy....just like the rest of us! I loved the fact that these characters are not put together go getters that make me feel inadequate, instead these characters make me feel as if I'm normal for once!
A great nights read that I thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely recommend.

I have read the first two book by J. K. Harper and loved them. This is the story about Haley and Cortez. Haley and Cortez have both has some serious stuff happen to them that's really messed up there heads. When they meet there is an instant attraction. As they get to know each other they find that they really love spending time with each other. They finally tell each other what happen to them that makes them skittich with relationships. They move past that and wow. There is action and a big fight where Haley finds more "friends" then foe. I really have loved these stories and I highly recommend them As always there is an HEA.

Two lost souls full of guilt and anger and the other a survivor of abuse. Haley ran from her ex husband and she ended up in Deep Hollow home to a grizzly bear clan, she ends up house sitting for the Walker’s who have gone away for their anniversary. There’s a knock on the door early one morning she was expecting the plumber but not this early so when she opens the door it’s Cortez he’s there to fix his parents plumbing. Both are attracted to each other and Cortez realises that Haley is his mate but both have issues that needs to be sorted out, when Haley’s past catches up to her will Cortez be able to protect her?. I loved this story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Haley was housing for the Walker family parents as a way of getting away from her old life and her Ex. Being an out of the way place in the mountains she believed she could write her books in peace with out her ex finding her. When one of the sons came to fix the sink at house she couldn't help be notice how handsome he was but like her there was something that was sad and hidden in his eyes that she recognized. Cortez felt he couldn't do anything without messing up but when he meet Haley be began to feel different, protective. As with all the books in this series they each have a unique story with evil lurking and a touching side that hits right in the heart, great read.

who needs rescuing ?

A brilliant story with very strong characters throughout and very well written , enough to keep you reading till well past the time you should have stopped ! With the two main characters both broken and in need of help who is going to help them? A typical family ( even if they are shifters ) who quarrel and call each other out but will have your back in less than a heartbeat a shifter only resort to run and a band of rogues trying to ruin a new business will keep you guessing what is coming next right to the end

Haley was house sitting in Deep Hollow when she encounters Cortez.
To get away and write her book Haley had arranged to house sit in Deep Hollow for a year. She meets Bear shifting Cortez the son of the owner when he comes to repair a leak. He offers to show her the area and the two get close but he ex is threatening in the background and has done a number on her already so she finds it hard to trust. He has problems of his own but the two seem to help each other with them. A shifter romance to relax and enjoy.

Storyline Kept Me Engaged with Storyline.
Rescue Bear: Cortez was a fast pace storyline with unique characteristics to it. The main characters, Cortez and Haley interacted as normal new people who are attracted to each other with the added knowledge of she knows he’s a bear shifter. Evidently there’s a whole back story on how she knows that the author gives us glimpses into.
There are rogue weird shifters that sneak into town and challenges put before both of the lovers before they can move on. How successful will they be?
This was a good solid shifter story that I enjoyed and recommend.
I am leaving this review for your consideration. Peace.

Haley takes on a house sitting job for a year in Silvertip a small shifter area with a town and a lodge. She is going to write a book and have it published.
Cortez is a bear shifter who runs a tour company and helps out at the family lodge.
They are both damaged, Haley by her abusive ex, Cortez because of an accident where 2 of his friends were taken in an avalanche.
Can these 2 become friends can they help each other to heal? Read the journey they each must travel to find and heal themselves, and the friends they have that help.

Haley is a writer. Haley gets a knock on the door very early in the morning and wondering who it could be and then remembers that theirs a leak up stairs and it's probably the landlord to come and fix it. When Haley opens the door and sees a huge handsome man on the other side she's not quite sure what to think. Cortez is the leader of his pack. He doesn't trust his judgement. But soon Cortez will realize that he can't control everything and has to accept that he's not at fault. I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the storyline and plot. Haley has been badly hurt, and goes to house sit for a year to write her book and hopefully to heal. Deep Hollow is a small town, home to a lot of shifters, and when she meets Cortez, she finds herself fascinated by him. But the last thing she needs is a relationship. Cortez is wounded in his soul too - and is not looking for a mate - but when Haley is threatened, he finds he must protect her. Will her ex find her and destroy her new life? This book has romance, intrigue, adventure - all the elements for a great read

A woman fleeing her past, emotionally scarred and starting to heal, takes on the position of a house sitter in Deep Hollow, a town with mostly shifters.
There she meets Cortez, a bear shifter who also still has to grapple with his past. Falling quickly they still are hesitant, until Hailey's ex catches up with her and starts to threaten her.
A well-written story about overcoming fear and self-guilting, learning to trust in one's decisions again when other's are involved, because the alternative is unthinkable.
An enjoyable read for a holiday or a quiet weekend.

Haley is moving on from her past and moving forward with her life. She's determined to make go at her profession of writing and feels that any fun in life is not needed. Cortez has suffered many tragadies in his life and one that he holds himself responsible for at a great cost to himself. Through patience and kindness Haley and Cortez prove to each that they are worth more than they give themselves credit for. With the hope of friends and family they both find out exactly how worthy they are of love and happiness.

This was such a sweet romance with some suspense mixed in. I’ve had the book a while but had an opportunity to listen to the audiobook so I jumped at it. I loved it! The narration was really great. This author is amazing. It was short but so good. I know a lot of people don’t like short books or audios but this one had a lot in it. I liked how the romance had chemistry and all the sweet meetings before the sex. I liked how the brother was scary and seemed to want to kill just because the heroine was human. I can’t wait to listen to his book. I felt like I was drawn into a magical world that really exists and I want to go back and stay.

Ms Harper continues the Silvertip story with another brother finding love and healing. Cortez is gripped by guilt and his bear is barely in control. Haley has her own demons to excorcise and has come to the mountains to do just that. The sparks fly between them, it helps that Haley knows about Cortez other half already. The beginning of the book is about character building and as it picks up steam, things get interesting. All in all a really good read.
