C.D. Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping a single cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

I honestly cannot get enough of this series. As soon as each installment is released, I’m devouring it. I keep wanting to savor it, but my hunger is relentless. I’m impatient for each release and I only wish that I could get my hands on the complete story sooner.

Caden has reported for duty and nothing has been resolved. He’s still not okay and Greyson is worried sick. She’s so worried that she decides that the only way she can truly take care of him is to report for duty as well. So there’s Caden trying to manage the best way he can, compartmentalizing, saving lives and taking numbers and wishing beyond all hope that he can deter his wife from joining him in the war against terror. But he should have known that was a lost cause. When does Greyson ever listen?

This entire story gave me anxiety. I was constantly wondering if Damon would show up, would the military figure out the truth, would Greyson be able to keep everything on track, and whether a happy ending would be truly feasible for this couple. I’m still crossing my fingers and my toes on that one. CD Reiss has continued this series with this next installment of delicious goodness. As I stated, I cannot get enough of these characters and their incredible story and I’ll be waiting on the edge of my seat for the next part.

Dynamite story to read!

“I wish you hadn’t come. I’m so glad you came.”

This was amazing, but I'm not at all surprised because I've been loving this series. Broken Edge was just brilliant in the concept and how it all played out! The love between Grayson and Caden was so intense, so strong and so emotionally powerful, it blew my mind away.

"Your strength keeps me upright when I think I’ll fall. I can’t shake you or forget you, because you run through my veins.”

"He and I were made of a single solid mass that could not be separated."

CD Reiss demonstrates once more her ability to weave together gripping storylines with powerful emotional complexity, she really makes you feel so much. She builds compelling characters, each with his strengths and vulnerabilities, giving us more about them, their past, their inner and outer fights, their doubts, who they really are deep inside. The raw emotion, passion, devastation, love and loss that occur throughout this series made for an exceptional read.

Type: Book 3 of 4 from The Edge series

Greyson Frazier's love for her husband Caden St. John had no boundaries. While she was willing to sacrifice everything, he was not ready to face the possible consequences. They must learn to find a balance or risk breaking their souls apart.

My bones were made of iron filings and he was a magnet, drawing my body’s brittleness to the surface.

I liked that this book felt fresh with new locations and cast of characters. I also enjoyed seeing how they settled into new routines. However, I didn't feel the intensity I felt in the first two books.

Both characters had to overcome their personal demons but I thought one of them had it too easy when there was potential for it to be expanded. The sexiness was also a little lacking here. I would prefer more passion considering the situation they were in.

I could fix this man, but when he talked like that, I didn’t want to.

Broken Edge continues the story of Caden and Greyson's struggles in saving themselves and their marriage. I'm looking forward to see how the series will wrap up in the next book especially with the change of plot direction.

5 Mindblowing Stars

I’m afraid that I may be a Broken......my mind is all over the place after reading book 3 in The Edge Series. I thought this book would be narrowing the plot towards completion. Instead, it completely shook me with the ending. I had some suspicions about one of the characters and throughout this book my suspicions were validated but then this genius of an author took a left turn into WTFville. I really have no other word for it than that!!

Caden and Greyson ground each other with an extraordinary love. They will do anything and all for each other even if it’s to their own detriments. While their love is fierce, there is a toxicity as well. And that toxicity is dangerous and has a brutality that I wasn’t fond of. But as the story kept going, an understanding developed of the toxicity. Even though I understood more, I still am not sure I fully comprehended. So while some aspects of the story became clearer, other parts got cloudy and murky. And my fear is, can 2 broken souls survive the traumas of their past, traumas of war, traumas of manipulations and traumas of a renegade passion?

I know to never expect an easy road with this author when she writes “dark”. It’s always full of bumps and potholes and curves that have you careening over they rails.

I know I didn’t really tell you anything. This is a series that needs to be experienced page by page in its organic state. I liked finding the OMGs, the WHATs, the NO WAYs, and the IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING parts all on my own. I can promise you that this series will push your comfort zone and push you over The Edge!!

No One would ever call C.D. Reiss a P@ssy. She takes on subject matter most would never attempt. She has all the skills to paint pictures that are horrific and beautiful at the same time. She does her research and it shows. For those of us who either were overseas, had loved ones there or even had been news junkies, this series will bring flooding memories back making every chapter feel real.

Caden and Greyson experience true connections, sharing, breaking boundaries and fulfillment.
There had been risks and delight. They had experienced all of it. Now Caden was called back... back to the reserves to serve again. It will be a test of where his head is...what is hiding now.

Greyson decides to take measures into her own hands. Caden is who she wants, needs and cannot live without. With connections, Greyson accomplishes her goal. She is back as a contractor in the green zone by the grace of the program Caden had been part of...

This segment was so intense, you felt the heat radiating of the sand and cement. When the scent of copper became overwhelming you needed to clear your head.

When Greyson and Caden are together the layers of intensity goes through the roof. Everything has more than one meaning... a stroke of an arm is never just the touch to the flesh. Each person has needs that can only be satisfied by the other.

This segment revealed each person's core and what they were willing to be and do for the other. We are left with the end all be all cliffy... and I wouldn't expect anything less of Reiss. August 19th 2018 can't come soon enough.

In the third book of the Edge series, Caden’s demons are tested as his surroundings have the ability to recreate past trauma. Determined and detached, Caden is willing to take the risk in order to feel complete again. However, Greyson isn’t about to stand down while Caden’s mind and body are ranging a battle. Stubborn to a fault, Greyson makes certain decisions and sacrifices that are potentially destructive.

“The very things I loved about her were the things that made her difficult to keep.”

As more about Caden’s past is revealed, the balance between detachment and emotions becomes a necessity. Forced to confront what was hidden, Caden relies on Greyson to enable his healing. Faced with an enormous sense of duty, Greyson discovers factors that could inhibit or harm Caden and that’s when it all shatters.

“Sometimes you have to stop pushing. That’s all I’m saying. Let things be the way they are. You could make things worse.”

Divided into three parts, the reality of their current situation is intense and it forces the issue at hand; however, I was hoping a more emotion and more depth. With a steady pace, tension continues to escalate as the direction begins to shift to an unexpected plot point.

In Broken Edge, the author continues to test boundaries with her characters by showing their vulnerabilities and how love isn’t always logical. For Caden and Greyson, the struggle isn’t over and I look forward to reading how it will all end.

“Dynamo…BROKEN…WHISPER…CYBORG…SYNERGY…ACROPHOBIA”

The continuation of Greyson and Caden’s riveting love story in this book is rich in original eroticism, heart stopping action, suspenseful mystery, profound psychological and personality explorations written as if captured in literary “high definition”. And…this is just what is at the surface of the read. There are underlying themes that manifest to the reader who is alert to the consummate genius on display in the composition of the words used by the incomparable C. D. Reiss throughout the series.

Caden is leaving for Iraq. This is Greyson’s worst nightmare come true and the very thing she promised she would never become…she became…the wife left behind carrying more burdens…alone and lonely…sick with worry…learning how to function as a single person rather than a part of a couple. Compounding the toll on her emotional energy that the worry for Caden’s mental and physical well-being takes, Greyson begins processing the turbulent experiences of the months prior to Caden’s deployment mentally and emotionally.

“The last months had been stressful. Damon’s appearance had thrown me, and the months before that, with the unexpectedly rough sex and the more unexpected reason for it, had been a slow crawl of emotional tightness that unwound just as slowly without the day-to-day chaos.
In the unwinding, my own feelings were freed. Disappointment unraveled to reveal anxiety, which dissolved into a puddle of worry that boiled with anger that steamed into sadness before soaking into resentment.” - Greyson

As loving as Greyson is, she is analytical. After examining all the deconstructed events and emotions of the past months, Greyson still sees that the love she shares with Caden exists outside of all the turmoil and is not connected to the turbulent circumstances or her raw emotions. Greyson’s love for Caden stands alone and only her love will be the basis of her every decision going forward.

“Caden. Me. The love that bound us together wasn’t connected to the skein I’d built around it. It stood discrete. It was at the heart of every decision I was about to make.” - Greyson

Caden is angry that Greyson would put herself in danger by returning to Iraq as a military contractor overseeing the contractor’s top-secret PTSD treatment protocol. Caden’s anger is its own pathological entity. It’s only satisfied with adrenaline, danger and…Greyson’s pain. Caden needs these things to reign in this "entity", this beast and to feel some semblance of being whole. Caden also questions Greyson’s motive for returning to an active war zone because of her former single-minded commitment to her military career. A career she abandoned for a civilian life with him.

“…But admit it to me, your husband, that you want to be here because you never wanted to leave the army in the first place.” - Caden
“I wish you hadn’t come. I’m so glad you came.” - Caden

This is the framework for the revelatory chapters of Broken Edge which is the continuation of a remarkable love story forged in the violence, destruction, madness, heartbreak, sacrifice, valor and the fear inherent in war. A love story that progresses through further horror and trauma. A love story that tells of a love that needs to crawl across psychological wounds like a captive forced to crawl across broken glass to be free. A love story in which pain is a panacea, cure, pleasure and perhaps more.

While Caden and Greyson traverse the scarred earth of a war-torn land, they search for their truth as individuals and as a couple brought together by either circumstance or a God that Caden can only define as the capital U in Universe so long as Greyson walks the earth. Along with the constant pressure of living in a war zone…there is something or someone insidious that is at work threatening Caden, Greyson and their marriage.

I thought long and hard and I have so many theories about the meaning behind the title, “Broken Edge”. To share even one theory of the meaning would be too much of a spoiler. And of course, the story continues because not all has been answered. Actually, it seems the more information we gather through the series the less we actually know. I cannot...can…not wait for the last book in this epic, “ edgy” uber erotic romance.
BTW: I was intrigued with the words above…which I quoted from the book and used for my title. This author is so sly. Maybe it’s a message in code? Maybe not? I promise you’ll understand more when you read this book.

If you read the previous books: Cutting Edge, Rough Edge, On the Edge, certainly you must continue with Broken Edge and then onto Over the Edge.

This series is truly transcendent in its genre. The imagination of storyline is unmatched and quality of the work in total is superior. If you love your romance intense, intelligently creative in its eroticism and wrapped in a plot that has your head spinning in all the best ways…well, friends what more can I say…go...begin…read… Start with the prologue it's free…Cutting Edge.

“I saw the three bright stars of Orion’s belt. Caden was under the same sky, and he was looking with me. He was my blue sky, my clear day, the protective shell over my world. At night, we were strung together by the stars.”

The title's of this series is very appropriate because I am literally on edge reading each book! There should be background music playing as you read. The kind you get in movies that tell you something is about to happen. My nerves are shot. Especially after that ending. It's going to be incredibly hard to wait until book 4. I have no idea what's going to happen next and I can't even guess as to what's going to happen. I had a hard time moving onto a new book after I finished book two and I think I'm going to have the same problem with this one. There is just so much to speculate about and I can't mention any of it. Read this series but make sure you read it in order...that's very important. ARC provided by author.

This series is part of the reason why I don't read series that aren't all available. Cause now I have to wait to see what happens and I'm not a patient person. Like not at all.

I had preordered this book and got the notification that it had downloaded at 5 in the morning and I seriously considered not going to sleep just to read it (yes I sleep during the day, it's a whole thing).

Of course this book is just as good as it forefathers. I couldn't put it down it drew me in almost of the first page and didn't release me until the very last word. Just like it's forefathers.

August can't get here fast enough!!!

This series keeps getting more intense and complicated as hell. I did not see that ending coming. The final book is going to be crazy. What can I say about Broken Edge. Greyson and Caden love each other so much that they’ll do about anything to help and save one another. Their love and connection is what drives this series and what I enjoy to read. Then add CD Reiss masterfully way of constructing a psychological romance with her famous twists and you have a smash of a book.

I absolutely adore Greyson. Her strength and determination to help Caden with his psychological issues is what’s keeping her going when he’s stationed in Baghdad. The same can be said for Caden. His love and need for Greyson is what’s keeping him sane and grounded. When they collide it’s a ball of heat and emotion. A mixture of soft, sensual and rough and dark. A CD Reiss specialty.

I needed answers and some of them was answered. Now with this ending I’m yet again left with new questions but I don’t mind at all when I’m this entertained, thanks to this talented author who knows how to spin a web of intriguing characters and a very thrilling storyline.
I’m really impressed and so excited to read the final book. What a ride.

It's LIVE!

'Broken Edge,' is the third instalment of, 'The Edge,' series, there's one more to go and I need it right now! I'm not entirely sure what just happened except the fact that it is brilliant and addictive reading. Of course, I know what happened on the page, but what the heck is going on? My mind is working overtime trying to figure things out.

Caden and Greyson continue their turbulent and highly passionate and fiercely loyal relationship where boundaries are there to be pushed to the limit and beyond. Pain is desired and experienced. Their love for each other may ultimately lead to desperate consequences and devastation, all of which will no doubt climax in the final part of this compelling series when I hope the layers will all peel away with clarity and positive results.

The ending or this part is utterly gasp worthy and left me with high anticipation for the next.

More of the same. But I'm glad the "real" Caden, the man from prequel, the man Grey fell in love with, is back. Somehow wartime brings the best out of both of them. In fact, I only really enjoyed reading this book in the wartime bits. Both of them were "allowed" to be a little on edge (pun intended). You could excuse the extremes, even tho it wasn't all that extreme since Caden was more fully himself.

But now Grey has leapt off the deep end. Wasn't the brightest move. Probably should have found a dessert animal to stick the needle into instead. A split personality bunny would do a lot less damage in general to in particular to their relationship.

But what do I know. Maybe Greyson always wanted to push the boundaries and cannonball into the deep end.

Get ready to see how freaky she can be. Haven't ordered the last book. We'll see if I still want to read the ending when it releases...

5 "Always find my edge." Stars

I'm not sure I have any clue what's even happening in this installment of the Edge series but found myself obsessively reading it. C.D. Reiss once again proves capable of drawing you into this mind-bending series without you ever knowing which way is up. Broken Edge is another deliciously woven dark tale between two married people caught in the most impossible of circumstances while they're willing their minds to stay whole even though they're lost in each other.

"Hold that feeling."

There's something very profound about the base nature of Caden and Greyson's relationship. Primal instincts and base feelings make their connection buzz with electricity and feel more important than them individually. Reiss's way of making them as vulnerable as they are strong under such duress and pressure is truly remarkable to me as she's still continuing down a dark path of possible destruction amid the most dangerous of settings. The whole series shines through the dark with danger lurking in every shadow.

"You never really know a person."

This whole series is addictive. Twisty with so many turns; expect the unexpected in the most dazzling way. C.D. Reiss is at her finest with this series and I feel utterly entrenched in this world where I'm a total outsider. I've been caught in this web from the very beginning without even realizing how we got to where we are now and having zero clue as to where we'll end up when the Edge series concludes. It's a beautifully told, tragic story of mental illness, perseverance, and ever lasting love. I'm still completely hooked and one hundred percent connected to this on-going plot and these fascinating characters thanks to C.D. Reiss's brilliant writing and unique style.

Oh My Qunbula what an explosive story!

description

Trust CD to write a heart thumping story which is thrumming with danger, there's a buzz in the background, ebbing and flowing and we get a scary ride into the dark tunnels of Caden's mind!! I was as anxious and apprehensive as Greyson, she's a saint I tell ya. And all the other military wives whose husbands suffer from some from of anxiety and PTSD, a huge salute to you ladies !!!
I feel this story is about FAITH. Faith in your country to protect you, Faith in your partner to pull you through hard times, enough to make you want to be a better person and faith in yourself to try and control the demons in your mind. What happens when Faith is not enough and demons overpower your attempts ? You compartmentalize and lock some doors and pretend those cells don't exist. That's a brain's survival mode!
Human beings were capable of selecting memories to suit their attitudes about present circumstances. We forgot the pain of childbirth to have more babies. We leaned over the toilet, swearing we’d never drink again, then said “thank you” when offered a fresh glass of wine.

description

Unnecessary wars create casualties of all kinds and this series is expertly touching upon the adverse effects of Iraq War on US personnel. The daily dangers The twists and turns made me dizzy, I gasped, I swore, I was shit scared and I hurt.
I Knew it !! Knew that snake Ronin had the key, the ground zero of all this shitstorm! I effing knew it!!
CD highlights the dangers these brave men and women face in the war zones on a daily basis. Bombs, mortars, suicide bombers, IEDs, insurgents, snipers, constant gunfire........ it's a critical and deadly lives they lead. This is more true of life saving Doctors who work round the clock, saving lives and treating patients, driving their bone tired bodies on caffeine shots, vitamins, and amphetamine.”

description

And their spouses suffer with them
In the unwinding, my own feelings were freed. Disappointment unraveled to reveal anxiety, which dissolved into a puddle of worry that boiled with anger that steamed into sadness before soaking into resentment.
Snipers being the deadliest cause they hide in minarets and shoot these people like flies.that leads to the need to constantly be hyper alert, looking over your shoulder or scopaesthesia , which may result in paranoia and ultimately PTSD.

description

Caden is already dealing with remnants of Balad & Abu Ghraib war in his mind, add to this Baghdadi posting under the constant bullets flying around and bombs exploding heightens the trauma. Now he's dealing with a new THING. It's buzzing like a swarm of drones or bees.
I knew sanity was a slippery concept, but Damon was gone, replaced by a buzz I didn’t know well enough to fear. I didn’t have time to attribute it to the pace of the work or even pure necessity. I only had time to get pieces of metal from a guy’s lungs.
This new Thing wanted her pain like a thirsty man wanted water. Damon was gone, but I was still broken in two.

description

Greyson wants to be there for him to pull him at the critical moment and offer herself up as therapy or cure, if you please.
This perilous move on her part results in a disaster.
Fucking Greyson hard was the way to get rid of Damon. This new Thing craved danger.
I won't say, I can't say because my attempts are too tiny and puny in trying to explain. I'll let CD do this job, go read this eye opening series and revel in the master craftsmanship of Christine. She's a maestro in writing complex stories that deal with heart and brain.
I'd happily be MrsVitaminG to MajorRabbitsFoot. . Caden with sky in his eyes, your beauty and bravery just devoured me whole. I was enamoured by you and fallen completely in love with you. I wish I was your Greyson, your Vitamin G, to hold you, take your pain and talk you through it! Till then I'll keep my small self folded and tucked between the pages of this story and call my self a part of it by association
You just can’t see the big picture. None of us can.”
“Maybe the picture’s too big for me.”

CANNOT wait for the next and hopefully last book, cause the ending gave me jitters!!!

War. It's an ugly business.

We all have our personal demons, our wars. But imagine facing a personal war while engaging in a literal one. That's where we find Caden and Greyson in Broken Edge, book three of The Edge series.

All too often war is a distant thing. Something that happens somewhere else, to someone else. Not here. The author doesn't candy-coat war. She makes it a living, breathing character with a central part to play, giving us an unvarnished look at its devastation and its impact on Caden, Greyson, and the secondary characters. With already steamy and mysterious plot elements in play, this pushed me over the edge and broke me emotionally. I was a crying, blubbering mess by the end. Which is fitting, really, because that is how war should make you feel. It's an ugly business after all.

*This series must be read in order. Please read books one, two, AND the prequel before reading this book.*

I knew it!

I called it!

I was right.

Wasn’t I?

Ronin!

Baby!

Cellar.

Drugs.

Dujon, ohhhh! Now it starts to make sense.

I thought she would.

But then she did that!

Oh my word! I can’t tell you how invested in this story I am. I can feel the fear of the bottle room. I can smell the blood. I can sense the electricity as it zaps between Caden and Greyson.

One may seem safe. One most definitely isn’t.

Such a fantastically written series.

Mind tripping quotes:

“Your strength keeps me upright when I think I’ll fall. I can’t shake you or forget you, because you run through my veins.”

“Disappointment unraveled to reveal anxiety, which dissolved into a puddle of worry that boiled with anger that steamed into sadness before soaking into resentment.”

“You break like a queen.”

This series is becoming one of the BEST OF THE YEAR! This kind of mind-fuckery is NO JOKE, people! This is why I love reading CD Reiss’ work. She brings the bold. She brings the edge. She brings the sexy LIKE NO OTHER! You just never know what she’s gonna surprise us with next! I absolutely LOVE IT! I love Greyson and Caden’s insane, twisted, and dark story. It’s original. It’s seductive. It’s beautifully chaotic.

With BROKEN EDGE, the author gives us one more layer of deep, mind blowing, emotionally draining romance. This author had me at book one, but she’s kept me on my toes and on the edge through book three, and we are one step closer to an EPIC finale we will never forget. These characters are a part of me now. I’m invested in them 150% and I can’t wait to see how Reiss wraps this one up. One thing I know for sure…it WILL NOT be wrapped up in a bright and shiny bow. This author is going to make us work for this happily ever after, I guarantee it.

The Edge Series by CD Reiss keeps getting better and better. The turbulent relationship between Caden and Greyson has completely captured my attention and heart! This unconventional couple is intense, real, honest and completely breaks the marriage mold. Nothing they do or say is obvious. Just when I think they’re going to turn left, they turn right. I am on the edge of my seat anticipating their next move and have a delightful case of whiplash trying to figure them out.

Plain and simple, Caden and Greyson beat to their own drum and it is LOUD and POWERFUL! The love these two share bleeds, truly bleeds off the pages. I am consumed by every encounter they share. It’s like Caden and Greyson live in their own little world and everything around them is just white noise. Greyson is stronger and more determined than ever to stick by her husband’s side through better or worse. Caden continues to put his beautiful wife on a pedestal, he realizes she is the glue he needs to stay sane through their difficult journey.

I’ve never been so excited to read cliffhangers in a series before. You know they’re coming, all you can do is ride the wave and bask in the craziness. This story has it all; truth, lies, passion, questions and more questions. We’re getting answers, but I know without a doubt CD Reiss is going to keep us hanging by a thread in the final installment. I honestly cannot fathom where we are going to end up with this incredible couple, but I will be first in line to find out!

4.5 stars

Three books into a four-part series and this author still manages to keep me on my toes. I thought I knew the direction this installment would take . . . and was 100% wrong.

Despite all of Greyson's fears and everything that could go wrong for Caden, he proceeds with the deployment oversees. I had two main fears with this.
That Damon would make an appearance at a critical time in the operating room.
That Damon would move forward with his treat to hurt Caden.

Greyson, sharing the first fear for me, surprisingly made a risky decision, with the idea that she could protect him. I don't think this was a rational decision along with the huge risks. Since I haven't trusted Ronin from day one, teaming up with him drew up major warning flags. And some of my fears were justified, but not in the way I expected, AT ALL.

"I sold my soul to you, you fucking asshole!"

I'm not a war expert, but I was a little skeptical at how often Greyson and Caden were able to interact while on their deployment. Yes, it brought the heat to the story in true CD Reiss fashion. HOLY HELL, Greyson is a naughty minx!!! So, given that the passion was so good, I gave the unrealistic nature of their reunions, a pass.

"I want to tear you apart. I want to stretch you open until you scream. I want to take your air away."

While this couple release their anger and frustrations out sexually, the looming issue remains. Can Caden stay Caden while on deployment? Also, what role if any does Blackthorne, Ronin's group, play in Caden's condition? Did their treatment create dissociation, control it, or make an existing condition worse?

Those are answers I hope to get in the final installment of this series. Given what goes down in the final moments of this book, I fear we are in for a bumpy ride. BRING IT!

Holy Moly….that cliffy is something else.
I am not one for cliffies but if you have to have one that is the way to go. I am thankful I have time before work to start the last book because man I would be so pissed if I had to stop right now.

Understanding the Mind is something I don’t think any of us truly get. How easy it is to break? But how hard it is to put back together.

I am glad Greyson followed because I don’t know if we would have had the same outcome if she didn’t.

Interesting and wow the narration on point. I loved it and that’s saying something because sometimes Joe isn’t my favorite but in this book he was outstanding.

Broken Edge by C.D. Reiss is another prime example of a book done right. It was intense, riveting, complicated, lascivious, erotic, and passionate. It was like enter a proverbial rabbit hole where you just know that Reiss will give you the unexpected. She allows her readers to feel the connection of her characters and at the same time left you guessing. So if you are looking for a wickedly devious and sexy book that will have you eager for book 4 then I highly suggest you read this series now. A must read for 2018!

Reiss is an expert at leaving you hanging on a precipice. Fortunately, for those of us who are hooked lock, stock and barrel on this series, the wait for Broken Edge wasn’t at all long. I couldn’t get her two protagonists out of my mind and was anxious to see what the author had in store for them. Surprises, there are! Book three picks up where On the Edge left off and if you’re like me, the last maneuver Caden made probably left you aghast. I didn’t think he should have done it; however, there’s quite a twist going on here and much to his wife’s dismay, nothing was going to stop him.

Actually, this is the first time I really got annoyed with Caden. I thought he could have solved his personal issues alongside his wife who would do anything in her power to help him. But oh no, he had to go and complicate matters. Of course, in his eyes he was only trying to make a really complicated situation better. Now then, in this story, everything goes haywire. Greyson’s decision to indirectly join forces with him didn’t please me, either. Yet on reflection, I shouldn’t have expected any less of her seeing as she’s madly in love with her husband. Believe you me, there’s never a dull moment in this read and since the author wouldn’t let her readers have it any other way, the build up to an unanticipated scenario is excruciatingly angst-ridden. In general, the plot’s pace is fast; nonetheless, there is a lull just before halfway which gave me some breathing space. I kid you not! From the second-half onwards, it felt as if I was on a collision course, waiting for the impact to happen.

My lack of trust regarding one of the characters who plays a crucial part in Caden and Greyson’s story, got worse as the story evolved. Man, is this guy bad news or what! His self-importance and pretenses, false or not, enraged me no end. I saw through him though, or at least I think I did. Question is, will this couple and is it really what it seems because I should be used to Reiss twisting the truth by now! When Caden eventually confronted his fears, I let out a sigh of relief only to be thrown back into a turmoil. The ending which isn’t the ending…well, I’m at a loss for words.

I really don’t want to spoil this must read for you; therefore I shall cut this review short. What I do I have to mention before going is that I was in two minds whether or not to give Broken Edge 4.5 or 5 stars. The previous books were like, what the heck am I reading! Even though the setting in this one is harsh, emotions don’t seem to run so high and gave the read a different feel to it. I cannot deny that Reiss’ wizardry storytelling and spectacular prose kept me stuck to the pages throughout. I liked the books structure too, and as always, narrated from different points of view in past tense is my kinda stuff. The banter. Bloody marvellous! So five stars it is, and well-deserved I might add. Bravo!

Broken Edge (The Edge #3) by CD Reiss
4.5 stars!!!

“Fucking Greyson hard was the way to get rid of Damon. This new Thing craved danger.”

This series is incredibly addictive and as soon as each new instalment drops onto my kindle I’m on it. Greyson and Caden’s story is not easy, but to be honest, I don’t expect anything less from CD Reiss. When this author takes something on, she goes all in, warts and all and in my opinion, this series is CD Reiss at her best. The next book cannot come quick enough.

Broken Edge picks up where On the Edge finished and for those that have read this series piece meal like me, you knew that Greyson was not going to take it sitting down and she doesn’t disappoint. The love that these two have for each other holds no bounds and in all honesty that could be their greatest demise, especially given how this book ends. CD Reiss certainly knows how to keep her readers on the edge and that was definitely how I ended up reading this one.

“My bones were made of iron filings and he was a magnet, drawing my body’s brittleness to the surface.”

For me, the intensity that the previous instalments had wasn’t as prevalent but given the situation that these two now find themselves in maybe that isn’t surprising, however I wanted to feel that when they were actually together. This book is set in similar circumstances to the prequel being that we are back out in the battle ground and that intensity remained.

“…but between us? It’s older. Bigger. My cells are tied to yours…I know you’re still there. Your strength keeps me upright when I think I’ll fall. I can’t shake you or forget you, because you run through my veins.”

There are so many characters I still do not trust, some old and some new and it is this that really had my grey matter whirling a mile a minute trying to read between the lines and look for ulterior motives. CD Reiss really nails this aspect and definitely has you chewing your nails throughout.

Greyson has always been strong willed, head strong and assertive when she needs to be, the bedroom excluded of course, we know she lets her guard down there 😉. However, her tenacity in this book and her fearless attitude is what really comes to the fore and the decisions she makes…well, makes for some entertaining reading even if a few more grey hairs have sprouted since. But despite all that, the love that she has for husband is what really shines through.

“I love you, Caden.”
“I know you do. No one would do such stupid shit unless they were in love.”

Surprisingly, Caden is a little quiet in this book, but considering what happens, he won’t be for long. I can’t even anticipate which way book four is going to go. I assume nothing when it comes to this author. I just cannot wait and hope upon hope that somehow, these two, can find their well-deserved happily ever after.

I don't think my mind and heart can take more.

This series will be the end of my sanity, and if this will be the last series I will ever read I can go in peace.

It just keep getting more "I'm gonna fuck with your mind" and complex with each chapter.

I won't get into details because everyone needs to experience this book (and series) without spoilers but be prepared. Be certain that you will enjoy the ride but there are bumps and holes on it.

Enjoy each page as I did, laugh, worry and cry with them, because even though is rough and your heart will beat fast and your mind will try to comprehend what's going on without being successful it's a Beautiful ride that I won't forget in a long time...
