He has spent his entire existence fighting the seduction of the Darkness, but it is nothing compared to what he feels when he looks at her. A woman who defies all limits... Ilsa Steele, taken captive by pirates at a young age, has grown to become one of the most infamous smugglers and thieves in all of Varalad, a woman whose reputation grows by the day, buoyed equally by both her ruthlessness and her charm. When she signs on for what she expects to be a rewarding smuggling job from a former associate, she knows it's the kind of job that will increase both her reputation and her fortune. Of course money isn’t her only concern. After a brutal attack nearly claims her life, a mysterious voice begins whispering to her, claiming impossible things. She’s either going mad, or her life is about to get much more complicated. A man at war with himself... Sebastian Orlov is a high priest of the Reverent, an army of warrior-priests who fight a never-ending battle to protect Valarad from the looming destruction of the Adversary, a hungry, evil presence that has already devoured countless worlds before theirs. Sebastian's faith, purity, and skill in battle, along with that of his Reverent Brothers and Sisters, are all that stand between life and Varalad's annihilation. But deep inside, Sebastian fears he is not the man he needs to be, that the darkness within him will prove to be not just his downfall, but the downfall of his entire world as well. Besieged on all sides, the Reverent decide that Sebastian needs protection. And when a ruthless thief and alleged murderess finds herself in trouble, they believe they may just have the solution to their someone just as twisted and violent as Sebastian's potential assassins. They have no idea just how important Ilsa will become, not just to Sebastian, but to their world as a whole. ( Faithless is a side story set in the Hidden universe. It technically takes place during and after the events of Godkiller. However, it can also be read as a standalone for those not familiar with the overall Hidden storyline.)

I love mythology and this book has an interesting mix of both Greek and Norse, with hints of other worlds. It's set in the universe of the Lost Girl series (which I loved) but I didn't realise this until after reading the book. There was a little bit too much romance for me personally. But I basically read almost anything from Colleen Vanderlinden as she's one of my favourite authors!
Getting to finally read this book was a real treat. I adore Colleen’s Hidden series and the mysterious Nyx has always intrigued me. This story itself is full of adventure and a totally badass female lead ( something that Colleen excels at) which I love! And I can not wait to see Ilsa and Sebastian in the future books as the Hidden series continues. It ties in perfectly with the Hidden stories and sets up the next book in that series fabulously! I am so excited for even more Nyx and to find out more about Oden and the story between them. Thank you for powering through and making this story happen!!
Ilsa is darkness, as bad as you get. Sebastian is light, a priest warrior, goodness with a sword. Between black and white is the world of gray where Ilsa and Sebastian exist. Hired to protect Sebastian, Ilsa finds herself far out of her comfort zone, physically and emotionally.
This is a high action novel with the sort of kick-ass heroine I’ve come to count on Colleen Vanderlinden writing. A whole new angle on an established series line was a wrinkle I didn’t count on. This was expertly crafted and toe-curling wonderful. I really loved getting lost in the world of Hidden again.
This was just as good, if not better than her others. I have been a fan of Colleen's books for a very long time, but if I needed to be harsh I would because I feel writer's learn from creative criticism. This story, however, was great! I love reading stories with heroines that kick ass! Explosive! Intense!
Why did this book have to end? I love this series and I LOVE the freshness this book adds to it. And holy priest! Sebastian, y'all. I'm pretty sure he is my favorite male lead in the Hidden world. Yes, even over Nain and Brennan. I know, I can't believe I just said that either. Now to hurry up and wait for Godkiller!! Fantastic job, Mrs. Vanderlinden!
Loved this book! What a great story about not judging people based on society's construct and judgment of them. Don't want to give anything away but I can't wait to see what happens when Sebastian and Ilsa meet the gang in Detroit!!!! Ohhh and pirates!
The introductory chapters were kind of long, the heroine trashy, loose and without redeeming qualities. Why would the hero fall in love with such a person totally beats me. The story totally fizzled out and fell flat after such a long build up.
