“Our love is so much more than a mere catastrophic occurrence.”
My name is Freya Wilson. I am not your typical girl next door. I’m far from it.
As my mother likes to point out since I graduated high school, I should be planning my life instead of wallowing around the house, in my pajamas all day. Girls my age are either preparing for college or taking advantage of the warm summer days that California provides in spades. She doesn’t understand why I prefer to be stuck in my room, watching the world pass by.
But there is a reason to my melancholy that she will never know. I’m in mourning. I morn a love I can never have. A love that if anyone were to learn about its existence, I would be judged and ridiculed. Branded with names too ugly to mention. Years ago, I had made the ultimate sacrifice so no one would discover my secret.
However, now my secret is being put to the test. I will need to overcome one last obstacle.
When fate brings me to live under the same roof temptation lies, I fear I might not be strong enough to hide my feelings. The moment I set foot inside it, my life takes an unexpected turn and the vision I once had of eternal solitude, seems out of reach. The chains I have weaved around me are no match for the allurement the house next door provides.
There is no running away from love, and I was a fool to think otherwise.
This love story involves five alpha knights that will do anything to get their princess back. If you believe that love conquers all, and adore all things Reverse Harem than this book is for you.
*Bad Influence is a Reverse Harem series. Each book is a standalone novel, with all new characters and brand new love stories. *Recommended 18+ due to mature language and situations.
Ivy Fox is a USA Today bestselling author who thrives on angst, yearning, and the kind of soul-crushing tension that keeps readers up way past their bedtime. A shameless connoisseur of emotional chaos, Ivy crafts stories where feelings hit hard, desire simmers low, and falling in love feels completely inevitable. She believes love is beautiful and should be celebrated in all its forms, so readers can expect everything from MF, MM, and MMF romances to one lucky heroine collecting an entire harem of devoted soulmates. When she’s not unleashing emotional devastation on the page, Ivy lives a pretty chill life with her two favorite men—her husband and her son. The only thing that truly keeps her up at night are the fictional characters in her head who refuse to shut up until she tells their story. She’s long learned to let them run the show… and honestly, she wouldn’t have it any other way. A firm believer in happy endings, Ivy writes romance fueled by passion, heart, and the promise that no matter how messy things get, love will always prevail.

This may be my book slump talking, but this FMC reminds me of dry toast 🍞 … No spreads, no toppings, no flavour. Just blandness….
I understand the FMC was young, but this woman lacked a backbone. This was a Why choose, so multiple love interests were involved. You would think with those numbers I would like one of them…nope.
Initially, she had my respect when she distanced herself from the MMCs, due to her conflicting feelings, but that was quickly erased.
She entered back into their lives (in all fairness not by choice) and came across as so desperate. This girl was so STARVED of attention, it was cringe-worthy.
I love a bully romance as much as the next person, so I was expecting meanness from the MMCs, but I wasn't expecting her to be completely enamoured with them when they were remotely ‘okay’ towards her. Giving her the bare minimum is not a privilege.
There was just no progression from bullying to falling in love. None at all, honest to god. This was how it played out :
Example One: One day Brother C gets with a woman in front of her and then gives her a verbal smackdown. However, when he hears that Brother A and Brother B are getting close to her, gets jealous and then hooks up with her on the kitchen counter. No apology and no plot occurring between the two situations.
Example Two: Brother D & E say horrible things to her and then they hear that Brother C is getting with her, so in the middle of the night they both come to her room, have sex with her and take her virginity. Now between them saying awful things to her and the sex, they haven't had one interaction. Not one!!!! There is no A to B, it was more like A to Z. Why are we missing all the steps!!!
She was spineless, she was a whiner and she acted like a princess a lot of the time. Stand up for yourself, be something more than a doormat for these men to walk over.
I ended up DNFing (shocker to all) at 73%. I honestly think I waited so long because I'm a big fan of The Frost Touched Queen. That book had such a kickass FMC, so I was waiting for my favourite writing elements of that story to come in this. Yeah.. These books couldn't be more different.
I am currently irritated with this plot, so I will reread this review later to see if I was too harsh. Maybe I'll rewrite it…😅
The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Romance: 💙💚🖤 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘 World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎 Character development: 😭😖😔
The heroine:Freya (a.k.a. Princess) - she grew up next door to the Perry family, who had 5 boys, all within a period of 4-5 years, all of which are the same age or just older than her. She grew up at the Perry house, played at their pool, had sleepovers with the boys. However, after she hit puberty, she backed off from those friendships and kept to herself because she couldn’t understand her feelings for all of them and was ashamed.
The Heroes:Mason, Tyler, Drew, Carter, Chaz (a.k.a. the boys next door) - They treated Freya like a princess and called her that as well. They were her five knights who protected her. Yet when she backed away from them, they all got angry with her since they didn’t understand what she was doing. Yet they went on with their lives, grew up and a few went away to college, but always came back on the weekends.
The Story: When Freya’s parents and the Perry’s parents go off on a monthlong summer cruise, they suggest Freya stay next door with the boys because there have been some break-ins in the neighborhood and they wanted her to be safe. Freya wasn’t treated well at first by the guys, but it wasn’t long before things started getting steamy between her and the twins, then her and Drew, then her and Mason and Tyler.
I read this book about 5 years ago and really liked it, but I guess my tastes have changed a bit since then. It is good for a super-steamy reverse harem, but there isn’t any story other than the relationship (and relations) between Freya and the guys. Also the way she starts giving up on them before the parents even get back was pretty weak.
The book was told in multiple points of view in dual narration and was narrated by Stephanie Rose and Aaron Shedlock. Stephanie Rose has a nice voice, but her reading was like reading out loud, not voice acting. By that I mean it seemed stilted and not like someone speaking normally. I guess I didn’t like the cadence. Though Aaron Shedlock did a great job and I like his voice a lot. Overall the book was OK but not awesome.
hummm let file this one under; not-what-I-was-expecting and RH Porn
First thing I would like point out is the 18+ warning is very real on this one and the language is very crude at times. From the blurb I kind of expected it to be a New adult/teenage angst love story, but it more erotica in my opinion. It's not all the fairy tale princess/knights in shining armour its portrayed as. Also a slight trigger warning which isn't mentioned
If you're looking for a quick RH read with a high heat level and HEA then this is a good choice! Its well written and I was very sympathetic to the MC, her anxiety was very plausible in her suitation.
It was the guys I had major problems with in this. It's a very short story and so seemed to go from 0-100 in 60 seconds, from the moment Freya walked into the house it was full on filth in her face and not very endearing towards the brothers. They would go from being so sweet to so cruel so quickly it would give you whip lash. Her"knights" are the ones who caused her the most heartache throughout, they didn't do much rescuing and were only good at the ravishing part. Freya is only 18 which was another sticking point for me, I maybe wouldn't have cringed or been disappointed in the bothers behaviour so much if she'd have been that bit older.
I feel like such a stick in the mud writing this as if i'm a mother tutting at some naughty boys behaving badly but I couldn't help but think that if I were a teenage girl I might pick this up thinking it was for me when it really really is not -that's just my opinion, feel free to disagree
The blurb sounded good, but I have to admit I started the book with the belief it would be another angsty, overdramatic, predictable, and cliché as f*ck story. A somewhat nice read until you started pulling your hair off. But I was wrong. Her Secret was a very well written standalone, quick contemporary RH with a well deserved HEA. It has its flaws: the 'living under the same roof' is not a trope I enjoy much, a plot twist that felt out of place -while probably necessary, and male characters that were complete assholes at the beginning. But it had also one real strength, something that would probably have annoyed the shit out of me in any other book; Freya and her doubts, her fears, and her pain. It was very realistic and I really felt for her. And I just wanted them to be happy at the end.
I am so glad the author contacted me and I really want to read the next book!
Ivy fox is my unicorn author for this genre but i really didnt like this book, there was no connection or chemistry between the characters which was shocking for me since i read some of her books and there was always hot chemistry but this one was just lacking. The heroine is weak as hell and..... it was boring. It was too predictable and cringe af, i liked the beginning and thought i ll enjoy this book mainly cuz i have been obsessing over this genre lately but as it went towards the end, i couldnt keep reading cuz i was so bored and the heroine annoyed me to death.
A tender reverse harem that tugs at the heartstrings
I love RH stories. They are usually hot and raunchy but they often have romance and tenderness involved too. This was a stunning example of an RH with both heat and emotions.
The book explores the relationship between brothers Carter, Chaz, Mason, Tyrone and Drew and their neighbour Freya. Their families have lived next to each other for years and their mothers are best friends.
They lived in and out of each other’s houses as children, the five brothers were the knights who protected their princess and they were safe and happy in their loving friendship, until they started to grow up and feelings started getting messy and they went their separate ways.
The brothers and Freya have not spent any time together for years and there is a great deal of bitterness on both sides. Then they are forced together for a month during the Summer when their parents go away on a cruise and insist that Freya move into the house next door to be protected by the brothers.
Emotions ensue! Many many emotions. I got a lump in my throat and got misty eyed a couple of times. If you like Reverse Harem stories, this is a corker. If you’ve never tried a RH story this is a lovely one to try as a first time, if you don’t mind raunch with your romance!
I read a lot of reviews before deciding on buying this book. Many were somewhat negative regarding the beginning of this story and how the guys treat the MC, Freya. After reading those, I was somewhat hesitant, but I took the dive and bought it anyways, and I have no regrets! Her Secret, a standalone in the Bad Influence series, was such a great read. The guys were definitely assholes in the beginning of the story, mad and hurt by Freya's apparent disregard for them. And not gonna lie, the first part of the book was kinda tough to read. One of my biggest pet peeves in stories (especially reverse harems) is when the guys are jerks to their girl. But, their cruelty was as painful to them as it was to Freya, and they quickly (some quicker than others) abandon that path when their true feelings start to come to the surface again. Overall this was a fairly quick read with accelerated plot (it is a standalone, not tons of time for character and plot developments) and some steamy scenes that really kickstarted their relationship. Some aspects of the story weren't as developed as others, but the main issues are all resolved in the end. Her Secret was an enjoyable read and I will definitely be checking out any future books by this author!
I was surprised that I enjoyed this book. I actually skipped the first 3 chapters to enjoy the book since I was disgusted on how the book started.
The way the mc characters flaunt other girls and treated the h like trash at the beginning ruined the book. That was too extreme and off putting. The writing was good and the steamy sex scenes were not overdone. A good attempt in writing a RH romance book. I think the author was able to portray the love clearly. Just wish the book didn't start the way it did.
So first I want to apologise for taking so long to write my review, I honestly didn’t know where to start. In fact, I still don’t know. I will begin by saying that Her Secret was my first experience reading a Reverse Harem novel. I am completely new to this genre and had no clue what to expect when starting it. I actually had to Google what Reverse Harem meant after finishing the book, I was that clueless. What I do know now is that I really enjoyed it, surprisingly so. It took me a few chapters in to figure out what the book was about, but fortunately Ivy Fox is an amazing writer and therefore I caught on swiftly and realised where the story was leading.
Her Secret is written from multiple POV, which I haven’t been a fan of in the past. Only because I get confused and believe me it doesn’t take a lot. But I have got to stay with this book, it's needed. I wanted to know what each character was thinking. No, you know what, scratch that. I NEEDED to know what they were thinking, especially the men and it worked really well. I will take my hat off to the author, because she was able to write five different personalities and make me believe I was listening to five different men as if they were written by different people.
Again, I really enjoyed this book, it’s opened my mind to a genre I didn’t even know existed, and it is seriously HOT!! The men in this book are above and beyond sexy, they tick all the boxes. I mean what sane woman wouldn’t want five incredibly sexy men chasing her? I have to admit, I did have a crush on one or two of the characters…cough…Mason…cough…Drew…cough cough.
Whilst reading I did find myself stopping and saying “What the hell?” mainly aimed at Freya. Without giving too much away, I will tell you why.
#1: Freya’s and the Perry boy’s parents are best-friends as well as neighbours. They decide to take a vacation together, leaving Freya to move into the Perry’s house with the boys for the duration of the trip.
Er…NO!! No right-minded person would leave their teenage daughter with five, yes FIVE horny teenage boys, who throw parties and drink and have sex, even if they were friends as children. I mean c’mon. Yes, I know what you are thinking Lucie it’s fiction, and because of that fact I will just pretend everything if find and dandy with it. Moving on…
#2: Freya is a virgin, and yet she has an intimate occurrence with each of the five boys over the duration of a few days.
Although what is mentioned above did bother me, I let it go because I did enjoy this book, and it wasn’t enough to ruin it for me. I believed that the boys did have nothing but love and admiration for Freya and she hurt them by walking away, and perhaps they do come on quite strong. But I believe that is just from desperation to make Freya see what they have always seen. And that is they should be together, all six of them, and nothing on God’s green earth is going to tear them apart.
I enjoyed the book. Just a bit odd the way it was written. It was almost a royal vibe that maybe I was missing that the heroine was an actual princess but I didn’t enjoy it. Five men vying for her love and devotion since she was a kid. She loved them back but felt it was so wrong to love them all back. They spend a month together and fall back into love. It is a bit gradual though because they have been so hurt from her ignoring them for so long. Cute story.
This was such a great read! I haven't read too many reverse harem books so I wanted to give this one a try and I'm so glad I did! I wasn't sure what to expect from reading the reviews but man some were just way off. People said the Perry's were cruel but honestly they were pretty mild to me. Yes it kinda had a bully feel at the beginning but it wasn't a dark bully type by any means. I guess it just really depends on how you feel on the matters as to what your thinking. To each their own! However I fell in love with the Perry boys! I wish this book had a little more steam but for this being the first RH Ivy Fox has written it was pretty good!
It took me a fewminutes to figure out how I wanted to rate it. The writing is great. Hardly any typos, if any. That I can remember anyway. I was able to read it in one sitting. And at first I was upset because it didn't seem realistic but then I thought back to high school. A quiet shy girl, nerd mostly, would probably have loved the attention and done exactly what Freya done. If more popular boys read books like this, the nerdy girls would stand more of a chance, lol. I think what threw me off was so much sex in the book. I mean I like that she didn't deal with bullying, and that her biggest problem was herself. I get sick of reading books that you see what the problem is going to be from a mile away. so when a real problem accrued, it caught you off guard. In ways it was real life, in others so far off. I would've given 5 stars just for the writing alone but the sex in it was too much. I guess I'm more of a prude, lol, I would rather it be one of those fading moments. But this book is pretty much all about that more than anything else. Still a good read, just not what I was expecting from the description.
Take two, just spilled my heart regarding this book, only to have my phone freak out and shut down on me. Ok, wow! I loved this book, I started reading, and couldn't stop until the very last page! I love how this book perfectly encapsulated deep, and abiding love, and the setting hardly moved from the rooms of a singular home. It fluctuated perfectly between heartwrenching emotions and sensual and dirty love scenes. Both depictions capture the depth of emotions the female character, and her guys, felt for one another. There's a true sense of unity and a depth of understanding, showcasing the purity of the love they feel. I cried and I laughed and I felt every emotion throughout the book. My heart broke, and was slowly mended up until the very end. It's a sweet and steamy read, and well worth your time to read it! I can't wait to read more from this author! She has me hooked!
Just finished Her Secret and I loved it! I especially loved that it had a natural unforced and fully explained conclusion to it - a genuine HEA and a bright future for them all. I've only been reading steamy romances for an couple of months, but have been getting frustrated with 1 chapter 'books' with cliffhanger endings! It's been a absolute joy to actually read a whole story. In fact the only downside came when I reached the 'other books' page and found I'm going to have to wait through the rest of this year for more - ah well good things come to those who wait (just like the characters in the book 😉)
This was a sweet/sassy story that was just too short. Much like a novella that you jump into their lives all ready and are screaming at them to just spit it out already. Nice but predictable even down to the conflict/ rising action.
A shorter length RH romance. Plenty of angst and light bullying, a great storyline, loveable characters steam romance and a little danger. I really enjoyed the story. I listened to this on audio and the narrators had really great voices and really bought the story to life
This was a seriously great read. I did get aggravated and wanted to slap Freya a handful of times, but she eventually got her shit together and claimed her men. :)
This was a sweet, fast read. I had it done in a couple of hours, so not a very long book; and unfortunately it did feel rushed as most shorter books feel. I did like the story and the characters, but would've liked a little more depth to the story.
I liked this but there wasn’t enough character development. Freya and her boys were interesting but they lived next door and didn’t hash out for why she cooled it With them. I mean 5 years… and no talking it out? Fiction to the extreme.🙄
