My very first book from the author River Laurent, I took the chance to read an Advance Reader Copy of this book since I’m into tropes likes this. I’m excited yet nervous because I’m not sure if I will end up loving this or not.
Let’s start with the premise of the book. The heroine, Taylor, a now popular rock-star came back to town she left behind for her step-mother’s funeral. Cole, the hero, seizes this unbelievable opportunity to get take her back after bailing on her on their supposed to be audition for a record company, one they’ve been waiting for forever. Taylor got the record’s approval leaving Cole and their dreams together behind.
Fast forward, Taylor becomes successful…
while Cole was nursing a tormented heart back in their town.
That is, until Taylor went back home.
It was a hard reunion for them at first especially on Taylor’s part because Cole made her a promise before that he would always be there for her and obviously Cole failed Taylor on that aspect.
Broken promises. Secrets waiting to be unfold and a vindictive former lover who will do everything to tear the couple apart. You’re in for a ride.
But fear not, dear readers, ’cause our hero’s determined to win her girl back.
Even if you will probably, maybe, hate the hero with some happenings in the book.
But otherwise, all ended well folks. They achieve their HEA after all the drama that ensued.
Overall, the story has been a quick read for me. It was fast-paced flashbacks depicting the lead characters’ old times together. There were some unanswered questions and people from previous chapter that was never mentioned again but not that it would totally affect the story. Just that I think it would be nice if it was mentioned again even if only in passing so just not to left anything behind.
Also, lots of steamy scenes I’m sure you’ve been looking.
And, this has been yours truly, delivering her crazy from my computer to yours. TO THE AUTHOR FOR THE ARC FOR REVIEW COPY.
I just could not with this book... after not seeing the Hero for years, h comes home for the funeral of her step mum, she jumps into bed with with the loser. All though he claims to love the h he was a complete man whore. So to make it even worse he sleeps and date a girl he knew the h hated. Plus when she tried to cause problems, nothing happens to her. She fades from the book, There was very little romance and a whole lot of smut. Not my cup of tea.

I must ask, am I crazy? I read this, wonderful story the other night... problem? I was just going to check out Sweet Revenge, it's the same syp, same story, and same characters. I read a couple of reviews and thought wth did they read? Cole dumped Taylor for a thinner girl? No such thing, everything he did was for her. self sacrificed for her. He definitely wasn't a man whore... this isn't just a different cover, it's a different version if what a couple of reviews said are indeed true about Sweet Revenge, (mentioning this is a perfect book for curvy women?) I'm flat out confused. This book had absolutely nothing to do with weight. I think if this author did an edited version and titled it a different name she needs to make a note indicating that because to make Cole into somebody aweful in a different titled book is an injustice, I loved him! I have to agree when Taylor got back into town, and he saw her for the 1st time in 8yr? That was just ridiculous, I thought what a joke it's going to be, I was wrong and loved it. Damn it was dirty, oh yeah!
I enjoyed this story. It was written well and had a fun vibe to it. It flowed smoothly and I enjoyed the way that we got to see the past throughout the book. It let us get to know the characters better and figure out more of the dynamic between them. This story was a fairly quick read for me but had plenty going on. Nothing too drastic happens in this second chance romance but there are a few forces that want to keep them apart. Things happen in a fairly short amount of time as well but because of their history and the way the story is told, it works. The sex is explicit and plays a part in the story as it is how they kinda reconnect at first. Taylor isn't sure that she can she trust Cole and so Cole's way in is to play that it is just for the 2 days, no commitment. Overall, story was enjoyable and entertaining. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
he was her best friend and wanted everything to work out but when he broke her heart she ran. she knew no matter where she goes she thinks of him. they meet up again. is it all going to be a happy meeting? can they put the past to rest? where will it take them? see by reading

The Promise By: River Laurent Will His Celebrity Girl Come Home To Stay?! Rock star Second chance Romance. She's a celebrity coming home. He's the hometown boy who gave her up. He's ready to claim her now but why did he let her go in the first place?! And can she ever forgive him fully & take him back?! Will LOVE triumph or will old roadblocks stops the show?! I was gifted an ARC of River Laurent's book "The Promise," which is an enjoyable book that I'm glad to recommend. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given. Until next time... Happy Reading!
I don't DNF books, because I am OCD about starting what I finish, but if I was going to put a book down, it would've been this one.
The blurb sold me. The book fell very, very, very short. Like not even the zip code as the blurb.
I never once believed the characters had feelings for each other. I believe they were both extremely flawed individuals, but there was no sort of character development to prove that. One was insecure and needy, the other was arrogant and shallow.
I will likely forget I read this book, and given the fact that a huge problem was the lack of character development, plot and flow, I'm not sure I'll read more by this author, unfortunately.
I love the blurb and the storyline but the book was choppy and didn't flow well. I never believed that Taylor and Cole were truly in love. After not seeing each other for eight years, the first thing Cole wants is to get in bed with Taylor. Other characters were introduced ONCE and then never again. The angst at the end is a woman, reader's have never heard of but it's enough to have Taylor running. The book needed more to get another star or more from me.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.
poor book. no depth at any way all I have is an old story when the love of your life let you go to live your dream then his mom came out of blue and suddenly problem solved . I didn't get a chance to love or hate him. sex is the only thing which is existed even it is repeated scenes without reason . dialogue nothing to say . you can skip any part and you can catch up easily .
The Promise is a sexy second chance, friends to lovers story.
Taylor and Cole were best friends nearly their whole childhoods, clear into high school. They dreamed of becoming famous rockstars and getting out of their small town. And then the day came when they had a big audition lined up, and Cole bailed, leaving Taylor with a shattered heart and the strength to go to the audition on her own. She ended up becoming a huge star and she left their small town and never looked back. Cole has spent the years since Taylor left in a state of numbness, just waiting for her to come back to town so he can claim her, even knowing she'll never come back because he broke her heart. But, when she comes back to town for her stepmother's funeral, he seizes his chance to make her his again.
I liked the premise of The Promise, I just didn't really connect to Cole and Taylor. I had a strange disconnect from them, and didn't care one way or another about them. I found their chemistry sexy, but their characters were pretty boring. Some of the wording was a bit strange, and it took me out of the story. I did end up liking the epilogue, though, and it saves this from a 2 star rating.
Cole and Taylor grew up together. They went from being best friends to lovers when they were teenagers. They start playing in as a duo and when they get a big audition Cole gets drunk and says somethings he doesn't mean. Hurt Taylor goes ahead with the audition and becomes a star. When her step-mother dies she comes back home to deal with the funeral and to decide what to do about her home. Cole isn't about to let her go this time and he asks her to spend the two days that she is there with him. So that he can prove that they are meant to be. Another misunderstanding sends her running but will Cole be able to get passed her lack of trust in him? Can Taylor be the woman that Cole knows she can be?
This was an amazing story about two people that found love young but due to outside interference it was taken from them. This was Cole's and Taylor's second chance to see if they could make it work this time. The chemistry between Cole and Taylor is steamy hot. Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a great love story.
Taylor Rose may have come from humble beginnings but talent and timing propelled her to stardom quickly. It came with a price - betrayal and a broken heart.
As the story begins she has returned home to bury her last relative. She only planned staying a couple of days but that changed when Cole Finlay rang her doorbell.
That’s when life took a sharp turn and so many things changed. They were best friends, partners in music...and friends for life until that night, the night when everything changed. Could they find a second chance amid small town rivalry and unknown circumstances? Let’s hope so because you are going to like these two broken souls.
River Laurent never disappoints and The Promise is a a good example of her ability to tell a wonderfully touching story that will stay with the reader for a long time.
I received a reader copy in exchange for an honest review and upon finishing the story, I have no problem giving the author five stars for another great story...along with my appreciation for a job very well done!
This was a wonderfully written book about second chances and true romance by River Laurent. This book told the story of Taylor and Cole, best friends since they were kids, turned lovers when they got a bit older and then fell out, but reconnected after a tragedy brought Taylor back to their hometown. I enjoyed how the author wrote the book from the present and past storytelling, but it took me a while to follow (but that's on me as I have a bit of difficulty keeping up lol). I loved reading about how Taylor and Cole's relationship began and developed and was sad to read how it ended with Taylor leaving home and seemingly "never looking back". I thought the author did a wonderful job of writing in a way that allowed lots of different emotions to be drawn from the reader, but made sure to include the STEAM (lol). Will Taylor and Cole reconnect and find their HEA? Read this book to find out, I highly doubt you'll be disappointed. I received a free copy via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Where to start....I honestly am not quite sure what to say about this book. It was not bad, but it was not one I fell in love with either. This is more of the 'read at the moment' kind of book and move on afterwards. I rate a 3 1/2 stars for this. I do not feel disappointed but I will admit I did skim through most of the beginning and past the halfway point just hoping I would reach the end quickly. I feel kind of bad admitting that but I just felt annoyed with Taylor because of how she jumped right in, without a second thought, with someone she said to not be able to forgive. I also think there were a few unresolved issues that I felt should have been addressed as well. Either way, this is just my personal opinion. This will probably be a book I will not reread again in the future.
PS.--Don't let my review for this book affect any future book purchases for this author. I have loved all other books from this author that I have read. This one was probably the only defective one.

Cole and Taylor grew up together and their friendship turns to love. Cole had always promised to be there for Taylor until one day he shows a very different side to himself and he breaks Taylor’s heart. Taylor leaves town and becomes a big star, years later she is back in town for her stepmothers funeral and she runs into Cole. Taylor wants nothing to do with him and Cole wonders why he let her go. This was such a fantastic read I really loved the flashbacks to when they were younger it gave more depth to the story, and you could actually see what Cole and Taylor were like as kids. This is another hit by River and she is fast becoming my all time favourite author, everything in this book was fantastic and so heartfelt and what Cole did to Taylor left a lump in my throat. I loved this story and I know you will too and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read and it’s definitely worth more than 5 ⭐️.

Taylor and Cole were best friends then broken hearted by Cole Taylor leaves not to return until years later to her stepmothers funeral. And whom does she see the one man that broke her heart. In this story there is a lot of flashbacks so it helps us learn more about how close these two were at one time.
Now Taylor has everything she could possibly want in LA but it feels like something or someone is missing. This story is fast paced and Taylor and Cole do hook up pretty dang fast. Their chemistry is hot. But when things seem to be going well someone decides to ruin Taylor and Cole's relationship and Taylor believe this person and leaves nor even knowing the full truth even after Cole admits it's not true. It takes his mother to set facts straight with Taylor but now is it too late. I really enjoyed this second chance romance. I voluntarily received an arc copy through Booksprout for my honest review.
Not the best, not the worst. I can deal with the sex that's no problem, it was just there seemed to be more sex than anything else. The plot line was okay. I feel that Cole and (I can't remember the girls name) moved way too fast, there wasn't enough background for me and it was literally like they saw each other and boom they were having sex, I thought she was angry at him and not willing to forgive him but she was willing to have sex with him even though she claimed to still be in love him, it just didnt make any sense to me but I didnt really read it to poke holes in it I just needed something that was fun and light because I needed a break from all the fantasy I have been reading lately and that's what it was. I doubt I will read it again but if I do it is probably for a similar reason. I read it on kindle and found there were some grammatical and spelling errors but I passed over it because I didnt want to analyse and review this in that much detail.
This was a great second chance romance story. Taylor Rose and Cole Finley had been childhood friends from a very early age. He was the one who gave her the first flower she ever received when she was in 1st grade, and that was enough to seal their friendship! Unfortunately, he was also her first heartbreak and she left town. But now she is back to attend her stepmother’s funeral, and Cole wants another chance. Is it too late for that now? Is she willing to try again to get back all they lost 8 years ago?
The story line flows well and lets the reader feel the full emotional impact the characters go through. The book has pain, emotion, drama, friendship, and is put together nicely. The dialog is natural and comfortable. The characters are easily likable. This one puts your heart in the right place – check it out and enjoy!
The Promise Is engaging. Cole and Taylor haven't seen each other is 8 years. When Taylor shows up in her home town to attend a funeral how will she react to seeing Cole, the man who broke her heart years ago? She's a famous pop star and he's still a hometown boy. Can these two put their past differences aside in order to make a future for themselves? This story flips from past to present to help fill and tie the story together. Taylor has a lot of insecurities from her past and not thinking she was worthy of what she shared with Cole. Can Cole convince her to give him another shot? As the story starts to unravel you will see not everything is how you think it was. I enjoyed this book. I thought it was steamy, intriguing, heartfelt and entertaining. This is a must read for second chance romance readers.
The book wasn't quite as good as its blurb, but it is still a good second-chance romance.
Taylor found fame and fortune without Cole by her side, even though he promised he'd never leave her. When she comes back years later for a family funeral, Cole sees his chance to rectify his earlier mistake and he doesn't let anything stop him from reconnecting with Taylor.
I liked Taylor's character, but there were times I couldn't really like Cole. I get that the author was trying to show his dominant side, but it came across as callous and even a bit misogynistic. I did like the twist reveal at the end, though I wish it had been revealed by someone else. They do have a nice HEA and the love scenes were as sensual as we've come to expect from this author. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I love the cover of this book and it’s one of the reasons I wanted to read it. But the story just didn’t do it for me. Certain things in the story are contradictory. For example, Cole saying there hasn’t been anyone since Taylor left one minute to he’s the type of guy to kick someone out of his bed in 45 seconds. Also I found the first encounter to be crude and over the top. She hates him and doesn’t want to talk to him when she answers the door; however three seconds after letting him inside, she’s all over him. This just doesn’t add up for me. A little bit of wooing would have been nice. Instead there’s very little interactions between them other than sex. It’s steamy, but I really didn’t connect with these characters. They both seemed a little too immature.
I received an ARC from BookSprout in exchange for a honest review.
A well written second chance romance with nice storyline and plot. Characters well described, likeable and they develop nicely through the book. Story flows well of the pages and keeps you on the edge. A romance with hot chemistry, promisses, steam, secrets, trust issues, drama, passion and emotional ups and downs. Absolutely worth the read. An absolutely passionate, fun, sexy and amazing story that is different from the usual stories with this theme. I like that about it. The characters are strong and likeable and the fight for their HEA and future.
I like it is written in dual POV, which gives the reader both the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. That makes the story even more emotional and captivating. The twists and turns are so unexpected that they made it worth the read. It is of a nice length.
This is a beautiful, bittersweet second chance romance. A wonderful, well written story that features the romance between Cole and Taylor. Their childhood friendship grew into love which led them to heartbreak. Now reunited, Cole must fight for a second chance with the woman he has never stopped loving. However, getting Taylor to risk her heart again will be no easy task. With plenty of passion, deceit, pain, drama, intrigue and a love made to last a lifetime, this book will keep you turning pages as you root for these two to finally get the HEA they were cheated out of. An excellent, entertaining, emotionally moving read. I'm posting a totally honest, voluntary review after reading this book.
Taylor and Cole have been best friends since nearly forever and through a good mix of present day and flashbacks we learn what happened and why they went their separate ways. When Taylor’s step-mother passes away, Taylor is back in town for her funeral. Things get interesting when Cole shows up where she's staying, to say the least. Taylor and Cole have lots of steamy action together, but she has some hesitations based on broken promises from the past.
I love second chance romances, a good bit of drama and angst, and strong yet vulnerable characters. This story has all of that and more. It was an enjoyable read and I recommend it!
I received a copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Taylor & Cole were best-friends and jig partners on their way to fame when he decided he didn't want fame and she pursued it without him. Now she's back in town for her step-mother's funeral and he wants to take things back to how they were before. River Laurent got me into the plot wanting to know exactly what made them split up and hoping they'd stay together. The story is captivating with its many steamy scenes and different flashbacks. A nice book to dig into when you come in out of the cold and curl up on the couch... I loved how well the characters are developed. I loved how warm and inviting the story is.

This is a beautiful heartfelt romance that was about second chances and misunderstandings. The love between Taylor and Cole is beautiful. It slowly unfolds from childhood into adulthood. You can clearly see how their love matures as they get older. You are also left in suspense about what happened between Taylor and Cole to break them up 8 years ago. Why is there resentment and angry? In the end, everything is revealed and there is a new understanding about what happened and how strong their love really is. Beautifully emotional story that has a wonderful Happily Ever After.

Wow! This was such and emotionally charged book from River Laurent! I was absolutley glued to it and could not put it down. I loved the desperation of Cole to get as close to Taylor, no matter the consequences it brought to him. These two are perfect together. And when his secret is revealed I swear I nearly cried.
