Rate this book
From award-winning author LJ Evans comes a heart-searing, small-town romance between a too-swoony-for-words rock star and a guilt-ridden new college grad…

“He sounded like he looked. Sultry. Intoxicating. Bad Boy. Good Girl Mia was screaming in my head to back away from the boy.”

Bookworm Mia Phillips is back home, trying to pretend she's got it all together while taking over the family car dealership. She’s an expert at hiding her guilt and the regrets she has over a man who never really loved her.

Derek Waters is spending the summer touring with his band and trying to forget everything he left behind in L.A. Falling head over heels for a small-town girl is completely out of the question, and yet he can’t seem to get the enticingly sweet Mia out of his mind.

A spontaneous purchase at a charity auction means Derek has the perfect excuse to ask Mia to go on the road with him, and her guilty secret means she can’t say no.

But when the road trip ends, will they be able to walk away without permanent damage to their hearts?

Inspired by Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Outloud,” My Life as a Pop Album is the second heartfelt standalone in the My Life as an Album series. If you like unforgettable connections, emotional journeys, and beautiful prose, then you just might adore this series.

Also available in the My Life as an Album series box set with exclusive content.

I absolutely adored Mia and Derek's love story! Instead of a traditional review, I'd like to leave you with some of my favorite quotes from the book, as they can do more justice to the story than any words I could provide at this time.

"It was full of deeply felt words about humanity being a collage of mistakes made beautiful. I was a book girl, and words were like a drug to me. They could bring me under with a well-positioned adjective. His song was like that, drawing me under."

"God help me, I let myself be pulled in by it. The look. The happiness. The unexpectedness of it all. How could I help it? Somehow, in the process, my heart had lightened just a little, and so I let him keep me with him for another three songs because it had been so long since my heart had been lightened."

"It made me wish again that I could trade places with my brother. The superstar with so much potential versus the girl that was pretty much invisible."

"You, Little Bird, have given this old soul something to sing about at last."

"And I know these scars will bleed,
But both of our hearts believe
All of these stars will guide us home."

Oh my goodness, I loved this book! Mia and Derek’s story was so fantastic. I love a good rockstar romance, and Derek wasn’t your typical rockstar in the best way possible. The road trip was a lot of fun and I loved watching these two fall in love and Mia find herself and stand up for herself and what she wants and needs.

As much as I loved the ending, I wanted so much MORE. I feel like an epilogue would have went a long way with this one, but I’m hoping we get more of this couple with the other books in the series. I see Seth’s book is next and I’m equal parts anxious and excited for it!

LOVED IT! I was nervous because book 1 hit me so hard, but book 2 was just as fabulous. I adore romance series that have connected but different main characters from book to book, and this did that in an excellent way. Cam and Jake were "there" throughout this entire book, but Mia fully had the story as well. It was swoon-worthy and I inhaled it. Excellent contemporary, sexy romance - NOTE: this one is a LOT more adult in a sexual way than book 1, so not appropriate for school libraries (book 1 WAS okay for that). It had travel and music and adventure and lots of bookish references.

Thanks a million to the author for providing me with an advance copy for review purposes!

This was a story of finding love in the midst of grief and guilt and taking chances to find a happy ever after.

Good Girl Mia lost her brother and she is suffering from severe guilt as his body rejected the kidney she donated. Mia is a responsible, play it safe type of girl. She meet Dangerous Derek while he is on tour with his band. They have an instant connection and Derek invites her to go on tour with him. Mia makes an out of character decision to live in the moment and go on an adventure.

I loved this couple! Derek and Mia complemented each other. They are both dealing with their own demons but Derek was able to see the guilt that Mia was festering. Not even her family and friends realized the burden she was carrying. He called her out and forced her to face her problems to make the steps towards healing. Derek had some really nice romantic moments that made me swoon. I just wished we got some of his POV.
"Haven't you figured it out yet?"...I couldn't respond, so I just shook my head. "I think you've been my only type my entire life."

I loved all the Ed Sheeran references and quotes throughout this book. I also loved all the secondary characters especially Derek's bandamates. They were really fun. I will say that if you are planning to read My Life As A Country Album, then make sure you read it first because there are definitely spoilers in this book. If not, this book can definitely be read as a standalone.

Holy Potato Peels, this was SO GOOD!

Good Girl Mia is the sister of Jake from book one. After listening to that audiobook, I knew I needed her story. And what a story it was.

A road trip romance? Okay!
An opposites attract? Yes, please!!
A very well-written and emotional and captivating story with a swoon-worthy hero? Oh my gahd, give it to me now, YES!

With each turn of the page, this story got better and better. My love grew stronger and stronger. You know those romances where the hero eventually does something wrong or does something he shouldn’t, something that totally screws up the relationship with the heroine? Yeah...no...that did not happen with Derek. He just kept getting more and more lovable as the story progressed.

The ways he showed Mia he cares, the ways he helped her step out of her shell, the patience he showed her, the support he gave...my goodness, Derek was everything! He captured my heart from the very moment he entered the story. A rockstar with a huge heart. I was smitten! He’s understanding and protective and so very caring and loving and OMGosh, I could go on and on. Trust me when I say he’s a BBF you’ll fall for immediately.

Romantic? Yes.
Passionate. Most definitely.
Sexy AF who will do anything for his girl? OMFG YESSSSS.

LJ’s words are poetic, pure magic. The music references, the playlist, all absolutely perfect. Especially since I love Ed Sheeran!

How Would You Feel? Oh em gee. The feels!! This story was full of them, but when Derek sang that song for Mia? Emotional doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt. It gave me chills and brought some tears and I just wanted to hug someone.

I absolutely adored this story and its characters... every single word. From beginning to end, I was captivated. It’s full of ooey-gooey goodness and gave me all the warm fuzzies.

Just like book one, this one has so much heart, so much passion, and all the heart-grabbing, heart-squeezing goodness that will make you never want to put this down. That, my reader friends, is the magic of LJ Evans’ words.

The narrator for the audiobook was perfect.
And guess what?
I’ll be diving right into book 3!!

ughhh i’m falling so hard for little miss evans’s writing. I loved getting to know Good Girl Mia more and Derek??? He is the perfect book boyfriend. HE IS SO DREAMY!!!! Mia thinks of him as a BB (bad boy) but he is soooo not that, he is such a soft boy🥺🥺🥺 I’m kinda offended Mia thought of him as a “book boyfriend from a Jamie Mcguire book” cause excuse me??? My boy is nothing like those toxic assholes, stop.

This one made me tear up everytime Cam and Jake were brought up and everytime Derek said a sweet thing like:

”What if you’re my dream?”

like bruh, just take me. take me NOW.

i loved their impromptu road trip and their quick but sweet adventure. Both Mia and Derek deal with guilt and I’m so honored to have watched them find love while working on that. OH and the band was gold. I loved the boys. Mia had a bit of a stroke at the beginning I think. That girl did NOT know how to act around Derek lmao. It was part annoying part funny.

I really really love how the songs are incorporated in these books. This one was about Mr. Ed Sheeran so ofc it has all the feels. The next one is about THE true bad boy of this world, the Cuban hottie Mr. Seth and it features the songs of the legend Bon Jovi, IM SO EXCITED!!!!!

I'm thrilled to finally be able to share Mia and Derek with the world. Their heart broken souls have called out to each other for healing and forgiveness. I hope that all of you who take a chance on reading this novel find words that make you feel like you've shared their journey with them. Happy Reading!

This was a fun sweet story. The characters and their struggles were very relatable. Mia and Derek work so well together and compliment each other so well. They both have their own demons to overcome and I really enjoyed seeing them navigate life and their relationship, finding a way to make it work. Derek has some real swoon-worthy moments. I liked the secondary characters, especially his band mates.

The audio is wonderfully narrated by Sarah Puckett. She's become one of my favourite narrators and was the perfect choice for this.

OMFG!!! SWOONING AND MY HEART SQUEEZED FOR THIS BOOK!! L.J. Evans is a First time AUTHOR for me and She Had Me Melting over Derek Waters!!! My Life As A Pop Album is OUTSTANDINGLY EPIC & BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN!!! THIS Book is NOT for your typical Love story with Hearts and Flowers but an Emotional Rollercoaster Ride of Raw Emotions!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK and Had me at the Very First chapter alone!! AND I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!
Good Girl Mia Phillips lost her Big brother Jake and blames herself for Not giving him the life he set out for himself. She carries a guilt so great that her feels like she should live her life under a rock and not take risks for the sake of her family. Until a Tall glass of Man Steel with Stormy eyes walks into her family dealership. Derek Waters is not your typical Alpha Male but according to Mia, he is definitely dangerous & off limits. You see, Derek is a musician and is on Tour with his band but decides to play for charity event that Mia & her family is giving in behalf of Jake.
Of course, they have Instant connection and he invites her join his band for their remaining tour of 3 weeks. He promises her an adventurous journey from Tennessee to California. Mia is resistant at first but makes last minute decision to live in the moment after talking it out with her parents.
Derek & Mia both have their deep festering secrets of grief and guilty consciences but together they some how bring it out of each other which is breathtaking. Derek Waters has a way with Words that Makes you Melting your Panties and his Charming Ways turn your into BUTTER!!
Also LOVE How Ms. Evans corporates ED SHEERAN's Songs into Their Storytelling and gives you ALL THE FEELS you can ask for in a book. This Book is Beautifully written and has an Rollercoaster Ride of Raw Emotions with the characters themselves plus friends & family.
I'm DEFINITELY STAYING TUNED for MORE From LJ Evans!!! THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK FROM START!! YOU ARE NOT GONNA PUT IT DOWN!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And then he reached for me, wrapped his arm around my waist, and pulled me onto the grass off the sidewalk. We started dancing in the moonlight under the stars by the river. There was no music, but Derek seemed to hear his own in his head. And I swear I could hear Ed Sheeran in mine. And Ed was telling me how he found a girl, beautiful and sweet. How he was dancing in the dark, with her between his arms, barefoot on the grass, listening to his favorite song, and how he thought she looked perfect tonight.
Derek twirled me and then pulled me up close to him. “What am I going to do with you, Miss Mia?”
It was the most romantic moment I’d ever had in my whole life. And my body was softening into his while I waited for him to kiss me. I’d wanted him to kiss me for what felt like a century already.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Haven’t you figured it out yet?” His voice was still husky. I worried it was from too much reading and singing, but it only made my heart beat faster.
I couldn’t respond, so I just shook my head.
“I think you’ve been my only type my entire life.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I don’t believe in having sex just to have sex.”
My turn to stare, because what? What twenty-something guy didn’t want sex without strings? Wasn’t that what had started this whole three week journey? Him wanting to sleep with me? I knew he wanted me. He’d pretty much said that. But I could also hear Hayden again, telling me that my imagination stopped me from seeing reality. My holes in my heart started to bleed a little.
“I don’t know what to say to that,” was all I could say.
This did bring a smile to his face. Not his huge one. Not the one that stretched his cleft into its own smiley face, but one that did lighten his mood.
“I have a solution for that,” he said with so much innuendo that I was right back to not having to doubt. He did want me.
And he proved it by kissing me. A slow kiss that burned from my toenails slowly up my legs to the pit of my belly and up until it reached my heart where it caused melting to occur all over again.
5 Star review of My Life AS A Pop Album (My Life As An Album #2) by L.J. Evans
Audio Review:
I was a little uncertain going in to this one, but once I got through the first couple of chapters I was hooked. L.J.Evans is a new author to me and although the second book in the series, you certainly can listen to it as a stand alone as enough of the back story is mentioned for you not to get lost.
This book certainly was an emotional listen, there was so much angst, guilt and suffering that was conveyed well by the narration of Sarah Puckett
Still really from a devastating loss which she blames herself for Mia is unable to move on with her life. When Derek Waters suddenly enters her world, she knows that her life is about to change; just how much of a change she has no idea.
I loved Derek, he was totally swoon worthy on so many levels and the way he felt about Mia was heartwarming. His caring, love and willingness to do so much for her really touched me. My heart just broke for Mia at times, her pain, anguish, guilt and suffering was palpable.
However, despite the angst and heartache, it was also humorous and had me smiling and laughing out loud at times.
The narration was very good and added to the listening pleasure. All in all a book that really tugged at my heartstrings.
Ms. Evans has the wonderful ability to draw you into the story from the very first page. Good Girl Mia is certain she knows her path in life but the second Derek walks onto the scene both Mia and the reader know that there are so many more, exciting things in store. The relationship that develops between Mia and Derek is sweet, genuine, heartwarming and infused with just the right amount of heat so that the slow-burn builds in a way that you know is definitely going to pay off. Without giving too much away, reading this book was like going on a wonderful adventure. There's glitz and glam and exciting new experiences, a few secrets, and just enough drama to keep the story moving along. Another fantastic book from Ms. Evans. Highly recommend.
I loved this book just as much as the author’s debut novel! This story revolves around Derek and Mia’s young love, but it has so many other layers that bring more depth to the story. I enjoyed following the young couple as their relationship developed, but what I loved even more was how their relationship led to individual self discovery. So true to real life! I really liked how the author involved so many characters from her first novel; it helped me connect to the characters and story right away. This book is filled with love and passion, and it’s a beautiful coming of age story. I can’t wait to read the next book!
Before I even start talking about this book, please understand that these can be read as standalones, but to truly understand all of the emotions in this one, you need to read My Life as a Country Album first. You won't be disappointed. It's just as good as this one and you'll be happy to be able to understand Mia just a little bit better.
I don't even know where to start with this review. Right from the beginning, I was sucked into this book and it didn't let me go. My Life as a Pop Album hit me in the feels, I laughed, cried, swooned and just wanted these characters to live happily ever after. When I read the last page I sat ther with a big smile on my fave. LJ Evans has a way with words and I don't think many authors can do what she does.
Mia is getting ready to take over her father's car dealership and finish school. She has her life with her family and that's all she needs. Except there's so much more to Mia, because she's still dealing with so much grief (read the first book in the series for the whole story). She's not really letting herself heal though, because of the guilt she feels. Mia thinks she needs to be strong for her parents, because she's all they have left.
I loved Mia so much. There was definitely an instant connection. When I read about book lovers, I can always relate. The way she described books and how she used them to describe things was just perfect. Mia could definitely be a friend if she was real, haha. This story was such an incredible journey for her though. Slowly the walls she built up got peeled away and she finally had to deal with what she was feeling. By doing so, she got to feel so much more though. I loved her emotional journey and how she let herself open up to so many new things even though her brain was screaming that she needed to be "good" Mia.
And then there was Derek. He's a singer in a band and from the start, Mia describes him as a book boyfriend. Honestly, if I ran into a Derek in real life, I probably would too. Even though I was only reading about him, I can picture his smile. Derek has definitely made his way to the top of the list of book boyfriends. He's sweet, caring, protective and seems to see right through someone. Even if they're doing their best to keep things hidden. And for a singer, he's so down to earth.
Add Derek and Mia together and that brought a big smile to my face. They really were made for each other. The connection was there from the start and they really bring out the best in each other. Derek gets Mia to slowly open up and let herself try new things and maybe even truly be herself instead of how she thinks she needs to be. I loved how things developed between them. I can't give too much away, because you really need to experience this for yourself. It will definitely leave a smile on your face.
Besides this amazing love story, we get an amazing crew of characters. Derek's band members are so much fun and the characters we came to love in the first book do make an appearance as well. Add Jane the kitten and this cast was complete. I'm normally someone who needs a dual POV, but I don't feel like I missed a thing with only one in this story. Also, something else makes this book really special. Each chapter is the title of an Ed Sheeran song. I listened to the playlist while reading and it was perfect. When music and words combine this way, I'm a very happy reader!
Guilt and Heartbreak! Must Read!
Like every other book of LJ Evans’ this book made me lol, cry, just everything. It is a roller coaster of emotions as you become enthralled in her words. The guilt that poor Mia has lived with since her brothers death is unimaginable. Yes, she did what she could to save him, but in the end it did not work as they wanted and she blames herself for it. Then she gets her heartbroken by a boy whom she thinks she loves. Thankfully, Derek is there to teach her to be herself, to come out of her shell. While she teaches him that he’s worthy of her love! This is a MUST READ!!!
***This can be read as a Standalone but there is a major spoiler for book 1 so I HIGHLY recommend reading in order***
L J Evans continues to wow me in this series. Book 1 crushed me but this one moved me I other ways. So much emotion. (Spoiler for book 1- but you know this if you read the blurb). My heart broke for Mia and her guilt over Nate’s death and well as her self imposed “sidekick” status. She lived so much in his shadow and it was beautiful to see Derek get the “Little Bird” to fly free on her own. Derek has some on his own demons and guilt but they truly helped each other become their true selves. It was lighter that book one but still filled with emotion and I was swooning for Derek just like I did for Nate (maybe even more so - I’m a sucker for musicians)
Bonus to see Cam and Blake happy together too. I’m so loving this series and it’s quickly becoming a favorite.
Soon as I finished book 1 of the series My Life As An Album I was ready for more of this world!
Mia’s narrative and version of events was not lost on me per se in book 1 but you don’t realize just how much everything affects her whole entire life until you get to this book. All edges of her life are affected by the events of book 1 in every way. To see her let her hair down and live a little was just what her character needs. Being pushed out of her comfort zone and facing some of her demons.
This series is unique in how it’s formed through a series of playlists while also poignant and beautiful.
Rating - 5+++
So, I recently read My Life as a Country Album and fell head over heels in love. The minute I finished, I knew I needed more. Thankfully, My Life as a Pop Album was right there waiting for me. I demand you read these books in order. If you haven’t already read book one, feel free to stop reading this right now, and go back to that review, because it is a delicious story that will be spoiled in book two. Since this series is an absolute must read, you don’t want to spoil it for yourself.
This book takes place after Cam and Jake’s story and follows Mia (Jake’s little sister) and Derek, an up and coming singer on their own journey. I couldn’t love these two more. They are both fantastic characters in their own right. Mia is like an onion. You have to peel back her layers one by one to see who she really is. On the outside, she has it all together, but inside she is a bit of a mess, and who could blame her? She has so many emotions she needs to deal with, but isn’t sure how. Derek has his own set of layers. On the outside he is carefree and happy, but inside he is trying to move on from a past that isn’t fully behind him. Histories that need to be overcome is definitely part of what draws these two together, but there is so much more to them.
When Mia and Derek meet, there is instant chemistry. The attraction can’t be denied, and it continues to grow the more they get to know each other. While they may seem an unlikely pair, I loved watching them discover and embrace their true selves as they were together. They allowed each other to be the very best versions of themselves, and it was beautiful! However, with lives on such different tracks, could this really last?
This book is full of ups and downs as we get to know these characters and their pasts, but it is not the ugly cry book one proved to be. Although in complete honestly, I cried through the first couple of chapters, but they were hangover tears from book one. Even without the ugly cry, this book brings all the feels. I truly connected with these characters and felt so happy when times were good, swoony when times were great, and heartbroken as they faced their own set of obstacles.
This book is a must read! Fans of the series will love checking in with many of the characters we have grown to love as well as meeting new characters along the way. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for My Life as a Rock Album, because I am absolutely greedy and need MORE! Seth has been intriguing from the beginning, so I can’t wait to get to know him better and follow his own journey.
Update: I just listened to this on audio, and it was PERFECTION! Sarah Puckett brings all the feels. She absolutely killed this narration! The storyline is still perfect. I fell in love with Derek and Mia all over again!
"They were fireflies colliding in the sky. Beautiful and brilliant."
This is the beginning of the journey that is Mia and Derek. L. J. Evans continues to guide her characters journeys with lyrics. After all, "sometimes words have a much more lasting impact on you than anything that anyone ever does."
The path that is Mia and Derek is lit by lyrics that have you listening to the playlist on repeat as you read. You'll stop and go back and listen to the words of the great philosopher and it only enhances your understanding of the expressive passage that Mia is traveling.
Ms. Evans once again, opens our hearts, reaches in and rearranges them with her words and evokes emotions that are so palpable you'll think of her characters for years to come…especially when you hear a lyric from this book.
My words do not bring justice to her ingenuity. I just hope my words have you open up her book and fall in love with all that is Mia and Derek.
A few of my favorite lines:
"To err is human; to forgive, sanity."
"Humanity is a collage of mistakes made beautiful."
"He was vivid colors and all humanity wrapped in a beautiful collage…"
*This is the second book in the My Life as an Album series and must be read after book one, unless you want spoilers!*
*Audiobook Review*
This is the second book I've read by LJ Evans and it just made me a forever fan. The first book in this series was outstanding but really broke my heart so I was wary to pick this one up. Thanks goodness I did! This had all the heart and soul that I loved about the first book without all of the ugly crying. Not to say I didn't shed a few tears, but they were mostly at the beginning and relating to events that happened in the first book. I absolutely adore the way the author sets up the chapters to songs. While the first book was all about Taylor Swift, this one gives us Ed Sheeran. I don't normally enjoy books with a low heat level, but this was done so well, (just like the previous book) I honestly didn't even miss he heat. Mia and Derek just made me smile and left me with a full heart.
Sarah Puckett's narration was just as wonderful in this one as it was in the first book. She is quickly becoming a favorite narrator of mine. I look forward to more of this series. Highly recommend!
Mia has never been able to forgive herself for not being able to help her brother however she also hasn’t told anyone about her feelings as she doesn’t want to burden her family. She has finished college and returned home to manage the family car dealership and be the perfect daughter.
Derek is a rock star who has just signed a contract. He presents an outgoing happy façade on the outside, but on the inside he has his own demons. From the moment that he met Mia at the dealership he was enchanted. They have an instant connection and he is determined that she go on tour with them.
This is a story of self discovery, healing and new beginnings as with each other they are allowed to be who they are, demons and all. Full of emotion and angst this story also has a lighter side that will bring a smile to your face. I can’t get enough of this series and I didn’t want Mia and Derek’s story to end.
I really really really enjoyed this book! I think I've been waiting to get the chance to read this book since I read the first book. That was a beautiful and sad story. This story doesn't compare to that in the deep factor, but that's okay. It was a different story entirely and didn't need the depth. The narrator was terrific as always. She's one of my favorites.
I don't really have much to complain about as far as this book goes. I really related to Mia in so many ways. There were some things I wish had been explained in more detail. Especially a certain scene where Mia reveals something to her parents that she's kept a secret for a long time. I'd of liked to see more emotion and closure there.
Overall, I really enjoyed this. I can't wait to read many more books by this author. She really knows how to pull a reader in and emotionally wreck them in all the best ways possible. I fully recommend this book and the book before it.
Good Girl Mia has done everything right in life. Graduated high school, went off to college and then back home to run the family business. She is determined to help her family in any way that she can, especially since the tragic death of older brother, which she still feels guilty about.
Derek, the hot AF musician, comes strolling into Mia’s place of business and her life. He has his own baggage that he’s dealing with, having grown up at the Playbabe Mansion and his dad is an alcoholic. Being on this tour is just what he needs. Only now, he wants Miss Mia to accompany him.
My Life as a Pop Album is inspired by Ed Sheeran songs. If you like sweet girls, musicians, music or abs you will love this one!
I'm a picky reader. I want a story I can feel. I want to be so wrapped up by the characters emotions they feel like my own. I want a book that breaks my heart to pieces then puts it all back together again and Mia and Derek's story did all of that and more. So many books out there skip over how harsh life can be, they focus on just the love and sex. Which I get, it's an escape. I'm so thankful Ms. Evans doesn't do that though! Her beautiful way with words just floats off the page and straight to your heart pulling you in and allowing you to feel Mia's heart. Following her as she learns to forgive and allows herself to heal was such a pleasure and a breath of fresh air in a genre saturated with alphas and all their trappings. Just a joy to read! And another one-click author for my list!
An inspiring and genuine story of overcoming the deepest grief and the most self-deprecating guilt.
Mia is a good girl. A pleaser. It’s her job to make sure everyone around her is okay. But the thing is…she’s not okay.
And when she meets Derek Waters, the rock star with his own demons that he hides behind a gorgeous smile, he pulls her well outside of her comfort zone, and she eventually has to face her grief and guilt head on. But he is with her, loving her, every step of the way. And that is the best part of their story.
The unconditional love and trust that Mia and Derek have for each other is evident in every heartfelt word that LJ Evans has written for them.
Mia’s story is a heartwarming tale of finding true love…for someone else and also for herself.
Swooooon meter is off the charts !!!!!
Derek is NOT your typical 25 year old guy, he’s sweet, swoony , patient, understanding , deep, loving, charming, hilarious but parts of him are also broken. Mia sweet sweet innocent Mia carries so much misguided guilt that it breaks my heart... she punishes herself for things that she had no control over. Derek comes along and brings so much into her world . He literally brings her to life and it’s so beautiful to read... Derek will make you swooooon .... and Mia will make you wanna hug her and take away all her pain....
I am loving this series
I absolutley loved this book.. I was a little cautious driving into this book after the first one crushed me in the best way. This story follows Mia and Derek as they seek forgiveness and find love during an epic adventure.
This is not your typical love story, it is packed full if real raw heartbreaking emotion. And love that heals their hearts..
Derek is a swoon worth BB :)
This series will be re-read many times.
Audio Version: My Life As A Pop Album by L.J. Evans (Author), Sarah Puckett (Narrator)
LJ Evans must have been a poet in another life. Her stories read like a sonnet put to music. The characters stir deep emotion and the words melt their way right into your heart. My Life as a Pop Album puts heartache on full display. Derek and Mia could make sweet music together, but it's the baggage in their past that has them playing the wrong keys. Can they find the right melody to turn their love ballad into a happily ever after? Evans lyrics are an inspiration to read. Sarah Puckett turns a beautiful mess into a breathtaking wonder. Evans and Puckett make the perfect duet team.
I read this months after reading "My Life as a Country Album," and diving back into this world (where Jake and Cam still "were") was comforting and felt like home. Mia is stuggling with some inner demons but has an opportunity to go on an adventure. Enter Derek, a sweet, genuine, sexy, up-and-coming rockstar. The relationship that develops between Mia and Derek is real, believable and infused with just the right amount of heat and slow-burn that you know is going to come to an explosive peak! The characters and their struggles were very relatable. Mia and Derek work so well together and compliment each other so well. They both have their own struggles to overcome and I really enjoyed seeing them navigate life and their relationship, finding a way to make it work.
The audio is quite beautifully narrated by Sarah Puckett. She's become one of my favorite female narrators and was the perfect choice for this story.
I'd like to thank LJ Evans and the Audiobook Obsession Review Team for gifting me this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
