It’s the 25th Century and the President of Earth is about to be assassinated.
Meanwhile… The Mayor of London’s cat has gone missing, and it’s up to Capstan and Dewbush to find it. But when they discover an ancient cat flap that for centuries has been used as a gateway to another planet, what starts off as a bog-standard missing pet case soon becomes something altogether more sinister.
With number one bestsellers in both the UK and Australia, to date David has written twenty-two books along with a collection of short stories. He's currently working on his twenty-third, Bluebell Wood, which is the next in his series of fast-paced crime thrillers. When not writing, David likes to spend his time mucking about in boats, often in the Norfolk Broads, where his crime fiction books are based.

Capstan and Dewbush find them selves once again saving the world in their own haphazard kind of way. After requesting the holiday they were promised after the last investigation they are told there is just one more thing they need to do before it's granted. Of course this straightforward inquiry into a missing cat ends up being much more than they anticipated and with plenty of laughs along the way. How these two ever solve crimes is beyond me but I really hope they keep on doing so as I really would miss the books if they don't. You don't have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one but I would suggested reading them as they are very good books and you won't be disappointed.
Funny, irreverent, fast paced and made me smile! A new case for Inspector Capstan and Lieutenant Dewbush to investigate, this one involving a cat flap and world leaders, was the perfect antidote to the work day blues!! This was not a series I was familiar with, but I am pleased I have discovered it and am looking forward to reading the rest.
Another day, another deliciously bonkers book starring the hilarious double act that is Capstan and Dewbush. If you haven't read the previous books in this series you would do well to play catch up before starting this, the fifth in series, as there is a bit of backstory that would enhance your enjoyment. So, hot on the case of a missing cat, on investigating the cat flat that came with the kitty, Dewbush is shocked when it sucks his shoe off. The duo are then both further confused when the shoe is not to be found on the other side of the flap. Where has it gone? And did the cat go the same way? Meanwhile Dick Muller, President of Earth, is playing host to Isabella Pusskins De La Catus, ruler of Callisto who is in a bit of a quandary having suffered from one of Muller's past decisions regarding milk supply. She is a creature of great beauty and Muller is somewhat distracted by his wife-bot's broody determination for a baby so he rapidly gets into a bit of a sticky situation. When Capstan & Dewbush's investigations also start to point to Callisto, it becomes a bit of a race against time to save themselves and, in doing so, hopefully save the planet too. I've already recommended starting this series from the beginning if you haven't already. I'll also recommend you try the sample first as the humour and bonkersness contained within these books isn't to everyone's taste. Me, I love it - the more banal and crazy the better. Yes the books all follow the same formula but then so have a lot of other series both book and film and they haven't suffered. Anyway, sometimes comfortable is comforting when you know up front what you're going to get. As with some, it's not the destination that counts, it's the journey getting there that matters. And this journey is jam packed with silliness and the usual bimbling about. And as for the ending, well, to be honest, series like Doctor Who have been getting away with this sort of abrupt, simple, obvious stuff for the past few series and, to be honest sometimes the simplest solution IS the best. It worked for me anyway! All in all, a welcome addition to one of my favourite bonkers series which never fails to keep me amused and always leaves me satisfied at the end.
Space Police: Enemy at the Cat Flap was a delightful read. Mr. Blake seems to have a similar sense of humor that I do, making the jokes and situations relatable. Capstan and Dewbush make a great pair - they seem to get one another even though they think differently and have very different backgrounds. This is the first Space Police book I have read, but I hope to read the others. Mr. Blake writes these stories as stand alone pieces, so the reader doesn't need to have the full background, and that is a wonderful talent to possess. I did come across a few technical issues that annoy me, but they didn't detract from the over all story. The only real critique I have was with the ending. I was really hoping to see a little more of the fallout. The end felt a little flat to me. Other than that, it's a fun, light read.
Inspector Capstan (or is it Catspam?) and Officer Dewbush return to save the world in the fifth instalment in the Space Police series. Assigned to the seemingly insignificant case of a missing cat, the hapless duo stumble their way into a case which threatens Earth itself. (If you’ve ever been suspicious of our feline friends you’ll be delighted to find it was completely justified.) Humorously farcical and entertaining, David Blake’s got a snappy way with words that put me in mind of Douglas Adams. This is the kind of book you could happily devour on a lazy Sunday in a sunny garden. Even if it was tipping down and you’re confined to the sofa, it would still be all smiles inside.
I received an ARC of this book from the author, and submit this review voluntarily and honestly.
Yep, it's the dopey detectives, once again managing to find themselves investigating what should have been a simple lost cat, only to find a sinister plan lurking in the background.
I'm not going to tell you what this plan is or how they solve it, because you should buy the book yourself and enjoy the laughable adventure.
I love this wacky version of the police in space in the future. Capstan and Dewbush find themselves perplexed by cat flaps that seem to whisk shoes away to who knows where. Could cat people living in a moon have anything to do with this? Could a cat flap be involved in a murder? What is a cat flap? Capstan and Dewbush once again must depend on their wits to save them, so things get very iffy for them. Could the President fall for one of his own dirty tricks? Honestly, Dick is almost too predictable and this could be his downfall. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Capstan and Dewbush have been tasked with searching for the Mayor of London's missing cat, as usual with these bumbling fools they run into a bid to take over earth from cat people in the moon Callisto one of Jupiter's moon's while the earth president Mueller yet again gets himself caught between a rock and a hard place. Hiijinks aplenty
Just when I think, where could this story go next, I find the author already got there. Detective Capstan is so relatable as a man trying to do his best at a job, when so many frustrating things just keep happening. And entertaining, as well.
kindle unlimited, had read all the other ones, have stopped majority of reviewing, but had to do this one just because. The 4's on these is because I don't get part of the humor/humour and maybe that's because not brit, who knows.

Hurray! My favourite intergalactic crime fighting duo are back! I adore this pair, particularly sweet naive Dewbush, the 25th century Penfold to Capstan's Danger Mouse (sorry, haven't come up with a better comparison yet).
I have come to truly love this series, and this is another brilliant addition to it. It gave me a good giggle, and who doesn't need that occasionally?
What can I tell you without spoiling it? Not much, really - you'll just have to read it! Cats feature heavily, although not as you know them - I hope! It's a little bit saucy in places. The President of Earth is compromised. And Gavin gets drunk. And that's all I'm going to say. Oh, except that my favourite 25th century social media platform, Slaptwat, gets a cameo.
It's brilliantly bonkers and utterly ridiculous, and I loved it. It was a joy to read, and fair brightened up a couple of grey rainy days. All the characters are well described, as are their surroundings. The author has a knack for writing the utterly absurd as if it were completely normal. And as I have mentioned in a previous review, I think it's genius to write a comedy series set in a future where humour is outlawed.
Highly recommended for anybody looking for a good laugh and who enjoys the ridiculous, and do check out the rest of the series.
Another funny, well written page turner. I absolutely love this series. It's lighthearted and amusing but still tackles some sensitive issues from a humorous standpoint. I love the characters, both the ones that have been there from the beginning and the ones that are introduced in this book. I also really like the fact that there's a bit of recap on the really important stuff in relevant places. Which means that if you've not read any of the earlier Space Police books, or like me you didn't read them in order, or even if you've not picked on up in a while, you don't find yourself confused by the plot. I read this one in a day, I just couldn't put it down!
This is an absolutely wacky novel! I started with the fifth in the series, which could be why it comes across as a really strange, off the wall romp through space. Capstan (Catspam?) and Dewbrush are a bumbling duo who seem to stumble into the thick of trouble, and magically despite themselves, solve the crime using the epitome of unorthodox methods! It is the epitome of British humor, dry and extremely snarky, a bright change of pace from my normal reads! Thank you for the opportunity to review this work, it was highly entertaining!
Space police Enemy at the cat flap by David Blake. It’s the 25th Century and the President of Earth is about to be assassinated.

But when they discover an ancient cat flap that for centuries has been used as a gateway to another planet, what starts off as a bog-standard missing pet case soon becomes something altogether more sinister. This was a very enjoyable read. I liked the story and the characters. I di hope there is more to come. 4*.
I am a cat person and being a cat person really helps for this book. Parts of the story surprised me in a bad way, but overall I did enjoy the book. I will definitely read the next one because parts of the story seemed unresolved, so I am curious to see if they finish their storylines. PS I had a cat named Pushkin, so I really enjoyed that bit!
Another yarn for Capstan and Dewbush, bobbing around earth and space fighting crime. Some funny moments to be had in the journey along with the inevitable near death situation and miraculous or more like ludicrous escape.
