Werewolves run wild in London. Riots grip the city as vigilantes and protesters take to the streets.
The Prime Minister is determined to contain the disease before it spreads further. She fights back ruthlessly with all the tools of government at her disposal.
But Leanna’s plans are only just beginning to unfold. The leader of the werewolves and her army of Wolf Brothers are already one step ahead of the authorities.
And for the ordinary people caught up in the conflict, daily life becomes a fight for survival.
Wolf Moon picks up from the previous book Wolf Blood (yes you must read that first).
Leanna has hit the ground running and the British government is left playing catch-up.
The news networks were calling it the New Year’s Massacre. Hundreds had been killed in the overnight riots, either in the street battles started by vigilantes, or else by the mysterious and sinister creatures that had suddenly appeared just after midnight, bringing London’s New Year’s Eve celebrations to a sudden and violent close.
The prime minister has called an emergency meeting of the government’s COBRA committee in response.
Leanna wants to be queen of the werewolves, she’s an idealist who wants to make the world a better place. She doesn’t just want to cure diseases she wants to free humanity from all weakness.
“Oh no. I’m not mad. I’m a wolf. You see, lycanthropy is a fast track for human evolution. It culls the weak and gives unimaginable powers to the strong. It will transform the world in ways that people like you are too blinkered even to imagine.”
The problem is Lycanthropy doesn’t spread very easily at all. The virus can only be passed on via a bite, scratch or a blood transfusion. It doesn’t spread through casual contact and so it’s not highly contagious but Leanna is determined to help it along and so she’s started to inject the virus. The main problem she faces is the test subjects are dying, the virus requires a strong host, the weak just can’t survive the transition.
Lycanthropy also appears to effect everyone differently. While everyone grows in strength and athletic ability some develop faster reaction times, improved memory, dulled emotion and empathy and in some cases greatly increased intelligence.
With this information we have to fear for the human race.
We catch-up and with all the characters from the first book and it’s through them the story develops.
Chris and Seth are finally heading out of London and towards Hereford. Liz is trying to come to terms with New Year’s Eve and what happened to her. Kevin sees an opportunity and finally feels things are turning around for him, Mihai is his constant companion. James saved Melanie but he’s riddled with guilt about the things he’s done, he’s mourning Samuel and Leanna’s wants him dead. Chanita continues to work to the best of her ability. Vijay, Rose and Drake are in hospital after their New Year’s Eve adventures. Ben is persuaded to help on the neighbourhood watch and Doctor Helen Eastgate has been watching Leanna closely and knows far more than anyone realises but will she get a chance to get this information out.
This is a riveting read and I’m totally invested in these characters and their lives, I need to know what happens next.
As I said in my review for Wolf Blood this is not my normal read. My genre is romance but despite the complete lack of romance this book has me hooked.
Anyone familiar with my reviews knows I very rarely give 5* but this book came very close.
Any quotes I used are from the ARC and may change in the final edition
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by the author.
Steve Morris hit it out of the park once again with Wolf Moon, the second installment in the Lycanthropic series. This being said you have to read book one, Wolf Blood, before diving into this thrilling tale. In Wolf Moon, we follow a series of characters from Wolf Blood through this werewolf infested apocalypse. You will find yourself asking questions to the characters you follow through this story. Can they change? Can she handle this new world? Is he really so bad? Steve certainly knows how to write a well-written story that leaves you wanting more. I said in my review of Blood Moon and I will say now that an apocalyptic tale involving werewolves is so refreshing and genius that you will never look at the apocalypse the same way again. So strap in for a wild, horror-filled, blood-soaked ride that you won't regret taking and pick up your copy of Wolf Moon.
Wolf Moon is the sequel to Wolf Blood, and boy, it's a doozy. The story picks up immediately after the first book ends, so if you haven't read book one, you probably should do that like ASAP. Trust me. You won't regret it.
Wolf Moon follows a variety of characters from the first book as they deal with the current werewolf apocalypse. You've got Leanna, who's deemed herself Queen of the Werewolves. She and her biker gang of wolves, aptly named The Wolf Brothers, are hell-bent on infecting as many people as possible so they can take over and rule the world. The time of humans is over, according to her.
Then you've got Liz, a policewoman who is trying to deal with what happened to her in the first book. Will she turn when the full moon rises again?
James, a werewolf who betrayed his kind, according to Leanna, is determined not to kill anyone ever again. But when his new friends are threatened, he'll have to make a choice: kill or be killed.
Add in Rose and Vijay, Chris and Seth, and Melanie and Ben, and you've got yourself an interesting cast of characters who are trying to survive not only the werewolves, but the insanity that seems to have taken over everywhere.
The government is adamant that they can keep this new disease from spreading. The newly formed Neighborhood Watch believes they can play God. And the rioters and protesters think they can take on anyone and everyone.
Wolf Moon is just as intense as Wolf Blood, if not more so. It's a crazy ride through the depths of hell, and not everyone is going to survive this one.
I really liked the way the story played out, and the ending left me wanting more. I'm definitely looking forward to a third book.
Although werewolves are horrifying to me, and I normally avoid anything involving them because of my deep-seated fear (thanks, Stephen King!), I can't recommend this series enough. Seriously. So good.
If you enjoy your horror to be visceral and in your face, then you definitely need to check out the Lycanthropic books. You won't be disappointed.
I though that the first book in this series took me on a wild ride, well this was not different. Lol. This book picks up from the first and just WOW! What an amazing read! We have Leanna and her Wolf Brothers our resident Villainess. Liz, the policewoman, what is really going to happen and can she handle it? James, can he really be good? So many things happening in this next book and I enjoyed every single gory, bloody moment. This is Mr. Morris's 2nd book and I must say it is as well written, if not better than the first! I cannot say enough and I am not going to spoil it for those who have not read it yet. However, you do need to read the first one in order to understand the Lycanthropy virus and Leanna's mad plan to infect all humans and takeover the world. The Government's involvement to try and stop this madness and everything in between. I an an avid lover of Wolves and this was just on the right side of mad, vicious and evil for me to completely and totally stay in love with them, Lol. An awesome 5 star read!! I cannot wait for what happens next!
******ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review******
The story continues in the 2nd of this six book series and picks up the story and carries from the end of book one.
The realisation of exactly what is happening is having the desired effect (for the werewolves), and civilisation is crumbling. The government resorts to Marshal Law and makes an apocalyptic situation even worse.
This story manages to convey the helplessness of those who are the weakest in society - the sick & elderly, the fear and confusion of everyone and those who took advantage of the situation for personal gain. The different strands are coming together for our main characters and showing how bad things bring out the worst in some people and the best in others, and how at times, it is hard to determine who the real enemy is.
Book 2 doesn't see as much werewolf action as book one, but it's still such a great read. Leanne and her ilk are determined to spread the virus as far as they can. The story itself is starting to pick up pace and characters are coming together. I read this one faster than the first as I needed to see what happy and I'm glad I have the next one lined up.
I would give this 10 stars if there was an option...
Suffice it to say... I have two words - READ IT!
I read this book in a day... At risk of grievous bodily harm to myself by a hangry daughter. My phone battery went flat and I panicked as to not being able to finish without being plugged in. Roller-coaster-thrill-a-second-page-turner of epic proportions...
I have ploughed through the series like a bowling ball through the pins... STRIKE!
Wolf Moon by Steve Morris is the 2nd instalment in the Lycanthropic Series about the Werewolf Apocalypse. While this book is totally awesome you'll need to start with Wolf Blood, book one of the series. The title says it all this really is the rise of the werewolves and it is everything you'd want in a horror/supernatural suspense novel.
Wolf Moon hit the ground running, New Years was a horror and the werewolf infection has turned into a plague and London has been turned into a war zone.
After the nightmare of New Years, London has been turned on its head. Many are still trying to get out of London while others are digging in preparing for the worst. Along with the people who are trying to flee the city, are the infected and the plague is moving right along with them, undetected it has moved on to other countries and the government has to finally admit they have a problem The Prime Minister, and the military are trying everything the can to stop the werewolves but it is an uphill battle. Leanne has declared herself to be the Queen of the Werewolves and war on everyone who isn't. To facilitate this she has enlisted the help of the Wolf Brothers, a motorcycle gang to help her fulfil her dream of world domination. Good Luck to anyone who gets in her way. The government is working to contain the infected in the hospital allowing them to believe they are in control, but it's all another illusion. Neighbors and Neighborhoods are turning on one another, No one can be trusted, when supply chains are disrupted and necessities are scarce. The police are doing spread thin and one Liz has survived an attack, what will happen to her the next full moon. James, the student turned werewolf, has vowed to never kill again. Will he be able to hold on to his vow and his life since he has turned his back on Leanne. Not everyone will make it out alive and everyone will have lost something. Great addition to the genre and a great series, I can't wait for the next installment. While it is fantasy, at least we hope, you can totally see how it the story would unfold if it happened in your neighborhood. Not only is the action wonderfully detailed and gory, the characters are rounded out and you feel for their plight. Get your copy today and you'll want to leave a light on tonight just in case!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Wolf Moon: The Rise of the Werewolves is the second installment in the apocalyptic werewolf series Lycanthropic. It picks up right where Wolf Blood: The Werewolf Apocalypse Begins left off. The author stayed true to the spirit of the first book - this is a horror, gore filled, take no prisoners apocalyptic werewolf series. Story is told from multiple points of view of characters, both werewolf and human. Everyone's favorite villain from the first book, Leanna, has built up her rag tag team of werewolf warriors and is plotting in her evil lair to take over the world. Meanwhile, some characters are choosing to stay behind and fight or are forced to stay behind for personal reasons while others are trying to flee. Other characters are brought in as well to portray other views of the events, to include government officials. The author continues to portray the human side of the werewolves as he had in the first book. Likewise, the author reminds readers that even though an apocalyptic event is going on, life goes on for some people - teenagers fall in puppy love, guys do everything they can to impress a girl they like, children still care for their ailing elders. Unlike the first book, at times, I felt like the story telling was a bit slow and it wasn't quite clear to me why certain characters were as much of a focus at times as others. I still very much enjoyed the book and highly recommend it for readers who have read the first book or are looking for a good apocalyptic horror series featuring werewolves. Looking forward to seeing what comes next.
Wolf Moon-Lycanthropic Book 2: The Rise of the Werewolves
The number of wolves are growing--being spread intentionally across London by several epidemiologist students who went to Romania with their professor to study his hunch that lycanthropy was a disease that could be cured. He was successful in discovering that lycanthrophy did exist and, after causing lycanthrophy in his three willing students/test subject subjects, he was eaten by them before they returned to London and changed their majors to genetics: one specific female -- Leanna -- using her own blood to study the changes that occurred and, more importantly, how to multiply it. The master plan. A werewolf apocalypse, starting slowly turning unwary people in London through a scratch or a bite. Some died, but the ones who lived became werewolves themselves. Only a handful of people: two children, a school teacher, a computer geek, and a police officer know the actual truth.
This was all covered in the first book which I very much enjoyed. I enjoyed this book as well, however, in this one, the author did not go back and mention any bits of this, so if you haven't read the first one, you are a bit lost and have to try to catch up and figure it out as you go along. Other than that, I would have given it a five. I plan on seeing how Book 3: Wolf War turns out.
After the nightmare of New Years, London has been turned on its head. Many are still trying to get out of London while others are dealing with what happened to them. The Prime Minister is trying everything she can to stop the werewolves but it is an uphill battle.
Then you have Leanna. She is determined to evolve humans into the next best thing, werewolves. The problem she faces is lycanthropy is not easily transmitted through bites, scratches, or blood. Also, humans are weak and Leanna learns that most die from the infection. But she is determined to take over everything with her Wolf Army.
I strongly recommend reading Wolf Blood before you read Wolf Moon. You will be lost and will lose the connection to all of the characters. I loved this story. There are so many players and all have their own events shaping them. But I have to say Leanna is one crazy woman.
If you love a good werewolf story, look no further. Wolf Moon is a great sequel to Wolf Blood, both great additions to the genera. I can’t wait to see what Steve Morris has in store next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
Superb writing from Steve Morris and a action packed story. There were a lot of moving a parts to this one and I really liked the originality that Morris brought.
This novel was very vivid in the descriptions, the writing really jumped off the pages and into my
I felt like I got a solid understanding of the characters in the story. There was definitely a lot of action going on that will have readers flipping pages furiously.
This second book was even better than the first as Britian tries to prepare for a war against werewolves. The characters have flaws but work to be better humans. James struggles not to give in to the savage spirit of his werewolf side, but sin realizes to save the ones he loves he must find an equal balance. Can hardly wait for book 3. Great series don't miss it!
Not the bloodbath book one was and in a way all the better for it as we see the original characters storys fleshed out, (forgive any pun). and given more substance, with each of them trying to cope and survive a nightmare world in there own way. As ever we're left with a cliff hanger plot, and with book three due, time to relax before the war begins and the killing starts, again!!
Complex plot story combining modern science tied to Old World superstition. Great character building with all the trimmings of hero and villian, young and old, tragic, naive, and arrogant. Each chapter builds to a seeming conclusion leading the reader to want more! As werewolf stories go, this series and book are well worth escape reading while sipping wine or having a cold beer.
This novel had a powerful main character and a powerful underlying perseverance. I liked the way the author set up the novel and the history he made sure to give the reader so that they came to understand the situation.
I felt like everything really flowed smoothly and led to an easy read. There are definitely some darker moments throughout, so not for the faint of heart. A wonderful Horror!
Just finished Book 2 of this series and plan to go right to Book 3. Kind of like a zombie tale where an infectious disease is spreading through the world but your turning the population into werewolves not zombies. Very fast paced and great characters - both wolves and humans
Calculated decisions made by the werewolves changes directly connected to moonshine hitting the person to make changing into the wolf possible differences in what is enhanced wolf to wolf really interesting can’t wait to read #3
