SUMMARY: Published by the Minnesota Humanities Commission in 1991, this anthology brings together vivid stories and poems of Native American, Hispanic American, African American, and Asian American writers. It was created by Minnesota teachers, for teachers and students in Minnesota high schools. Each section is different, still the book is very fulfilling.
GRADE LEVEL: Middle School+
CURRICULAR CONNECTION: I would use this anthology to have students assess how the writing styles change between the various cultures.
this was a book that i had originally used in a college course way back when......it's one that has come up again though as i am now working with teachers that are using it in their classrooms (or at least they're trying to incorporate it in their classrooms). i forgot how good it really is as a multicultural anthology, and i wish the historical society would publish another with more recent stories/poems.
This is a great collection of poems and short stories reflecting a variety of diverse perspectives. Plus, I believe it was put together in Minnesota. Thanks Abby for the copy!
