Here's what I thought the nth time around: FIVE AMAZING STARS!

It was so good I couldn't even wait for my buddies to read along with me :P. There's so much going on in this book. In addition to my original review below, I'll add what made me fall in love with Devlin and Grace all over again.

#1 He's a charmer with a vulnerable, loving heart. AND he's a god in bed. What else can a girl ask for?

description

Had to update this pic to my Mr Blondie obsession. Devlin doesn't have the beard, but I think the rest of him (except the hairiness) might fit to a T!!!

description

I sooooo wanna wake up next to you!! I'm memorize the Kama Sutra too if this was the guy I got to practice it with :P

#2 Grace is brilliantly funny. Without trying to be. She's tied with the heroine of Dark Obsession (Pure/Dark Ones #8) by Aja James as my fav in the series!

She reminds me of some of my very high IQ engineering friends in college (except they were all male).

#3 The HOTT LOVE SCENES!!!!

description

AJ is the queen of the intense love connection :)

#4 The truly romantic finale.

Grace, honey, you really outdone yourself. Devlin didn't have a chance against all that wooing!

#5 The amazing world-building and character evolution that I've come to expect from AJ

Making me beg for more!!!

description

Below my original review.

I always love everything Ms. James writes. The Pure Dark series just keeps getting better and better!

I love that we meet Sophia again in the prologue and epilogue. I've been missing her from Book 1, Pure Healing. We get doses of Innana and Gabriel from Book 2, a mysterious person from Book 3, the Creature and Ere (who I have my suspicions about),members of the Chosen and Queen Jade, and Tal and Mama-Bear. I love it! Aaaannndd, we get to meet a new recruit, who's pretty badass.

I really bonded with Grace, but I still want to steal Devlin for my own forever mate. He's just so perfect! Sort of the good rake from regency romances that I also like to read, except he's never really been a rake, even though all his comrades think he is one.

And the cliff hanger at the end! I know I won't be sleeping tonight again until I finish Book 5!

I've been going through a reading drought for many weeks. Just can't seem to get into any genre of romance. So I've ended up catching up on movies and TV series to take the edge off. You know WHY I haven't been able to get into a good book?? BECAUSE I'M TOO OBSESSED WITH THIS SERIES!! :)

Nth read: I maintain my original rating of five stars+++>

You know, now that I've been reading with Goodread friends together, I have a different appreciation of this series. Below in my original review I said I like Book 3 the best. Not so sure any more. I might like Book 2 Dark Longing better than Book 3. And I really like Book 4 too because it reminds me of Book 2 with all the world-building and intricate character development and various story lines.

Although I've already read Books 4-5, it's been a while and now that I'm on a roll with Book 4, I STILL can't wait to read the other stories! Guess that's a sure sign of an addicitive series. There are always new nuggets and clues I'm finding as I read. Like

So many mysteries to unravel... So much more fantastical world to explore. It's like every book is just a tip of a gigantic iceburg. I want to know what happens to everyone!!!

And yah! The love scenes! AJ might be my fav writer of schorching emotionally connecting love scenes!

description

I want more!!!

*Buddies, can we start on Book 5 now??? pretty please???*

description

Original review follows

OK, so now that I know how to add gifs, I'm coming back to add them... these things are so cool!

I absolutely LOVE Devlin and Grace. Book 3, Dark Desires is still my fav, but Grace might be my favorite heroine thus far in the Pure-Dark Ones series. She is just so funny! Without meaning to be. I'm a huge Criminal Minds fan, and Sherlock Holmes the series fan, and I love reading about and watching shows about awkward geniuses. They always make the geniuses men, tho, and that's kinda unfair. So I love that Ms. James brought out a female genius who's the perfect match for Devlin.

description

This is the way I think about it: Valerius from Book 1 is my tortured hero. Gabriel from Book 2 is my baby daddy. Ryu from Book 3 is my bad boy obsession. And Devlin is my favorite valentine. I love them all!! I always judge a romance book by whether or not I can fall in love with the Hero, and certainly this series always delivers on that front. But I didn't really expect to like all the Heroines so much as well. And like I said, Grace is my fav!

description

But man, WHY DID IT HAVE TO END!?! And on such a cliff hanger too! I got Book 5 ARC in my mailbox tho... hehehehe. Will be gobbling it up tonight!

He asked silent questions with his mouth: Do you want me? Not this shell that I wear, but me, the man inside? Can you care for me, hold me when I’m weak, accept the bestial part of me that wants to mark you, claim you for my own?

Leave it to Aja James to write such unique characters and incredible world-building. Just when I thought I had some substantial theories, I realized that I basically knew next to nothing. I’m sure I’m just barely scratching the surface here.

Dark Desires was hard for me to rate for many reasons (the obvious one being that Ryu gave me a massive book hangover) but the main reason was that the introduction of more intriguing plot details and other interesting characters, completely diverted my attention from Devlin and Grace. For me, Tal, completely stole the spotlight in this one! My heart completely and utterly BREAKS for him. And oh my word, his little bedtime reading moment with Benji, completely destroyed my heart. AND THE CREATURE? MEDUSA? ERE? I’m SO INTRIGUED. (AND EXCUSE ME, WHERE WAS DALAIR?) I also loved seeing Sophia and Inanna again too.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with Devlin and Grace. It was very funny to see Devlin’s plans get completely derailed upon meeting Grace! They were certainly a perfect match and I liked the romance… BUT not as much as I did with the previous books. Devlin’s definitely my least favorite hero so far… Even with his impressive library, I didn’t connect with him the way I did with Valerius, Gabriel and Ryu. As for Grace? Even though she’s also not my favorite heroine, she was a badass in her own right. I liked her little quirks and all the things that made her unique. I also can’t forget to mention her pet chinchilla! So cute!

Anyway, I’m grateful the next book is about Tal or else I’d combust…

(Also, my heart officially belongs to Ryu... I was so happy with his appearances! How can a man of few words affect me this much?! There better be more of him in the subsequent books…)

Rating: 4.5/5

In a word: YES

This book seriously blew me away... and that is saying something because it does not happen often. I'm very stingy with my straight up 5 stars, but this one earned every single point.

I will be completely honest and say that I was a little worried when I started this book because the h (Grace) was less than warm and relate-able (at least for me). I was not sure how Ms. James was going to make me like her, but apparently she enjoys a challenge - and she absolutely rose to it!

Our H in this story is Devlin, a Dark One who was heir to a Dukedom in his human life which began approximately 230 years ago (as he says, he's still a newbie in Vampire years). As is the case with most of our nearly immortals, he has his fair share of baggage. His main role is as the Dark Ones' tech support and cyber-info gathering extraordinaire, and while he might be considered one of the most outwardly friendly of the group, he keeps his personal life close to the vest. When he meets Grace, he is on a mission to use his well-touted flirtation skills to get information from her about Medusa, an entity whose true identity is being sought by the Pure & Dark Ones as they seek to eliminate threats to their existence. Grace (unknowingly) has been the brains behind Medusa's electronic footprint, which is suspiciously clean. Devlin adopts the user name of a person Grace has been chatting with in her online world and has played the role for a couple of months by the time they meet for the first time face-to-face. The date feels more than a little awkward and somewhat abrupt, so Devlin is pretty sure he's going to need to up his game in the charm department before he gets any information out of the unreadable Grace Darling. Little does he know, she already has him in her sights as her next "orgasms buddy" to satisfy her physical needs as no one would be able to break through to get to her heart.

What I liked about this book:
- EVERYTHING!
- The main characters were unique and fun to get to know - the depth that the author was able to achieve was amazing
- As always, the action was thrilling
- Steamy goodness!
- More details on characters we have been exposed to in the previous books - I got to do the "I knew it!" dance a little bit in this one :)

What I didn't like as much about this book:
- NOTHING. I have never said that, so I will say it again in case you thought someone else was writing this: nothing. Not. A. Thing.

Overall, a superb addition to this ever-evolving and exciting series. So much fun to be on this ride with the Pure/Dark Ones - eagerly anticipating the next installment!

Plot -- 5/5
Main Characters -- 5/5
Steam Level --- 3.5/5
Violence -- fight scenes and flashbacks (nothing "triggering")
Language -- not egregious
POV -- 3rd person throughout

Did I ask to have my mind blown when I went into this book?
Oh... I did?
Well, consider me SHOOK!!

This author is holding me captive with this series. I have other books I'm supposed to be reading. ARCs are piling up and yet... I can't stop myself!

The heroes are divine. The heroines are perfect for their mates. The plots are dynamic, complicated and intriguing. I've been hooked, I am hooked, and I will continue to be hooked until the end!

Devlin was an absolute sweetheart. Until now, I took him as the easygoing, flirty, more approachable member of the Chosen. Now I know better because he is all of those things and more. A perfect gentleman, Devlin was kind and caring, smart and astute, and he was fiercely loyal. He was left a broken man before becoming a Dark One and the lingering pain of his past fed into his present. And then he met Grace.

Grace was not normal, but she was uniquely perfect. With limited social skills and an analytical mind, she approached life like an equation — resolutely, determindly, logically. However, Devlin was an anomaly for her. He didn't fit into a box. He was unlike anyone she had ever met. He couldn't be forgotten. She wanted to have him, be one with him, to claim him, no matter how illogical it seemed.

...this was Grace’s particular dilemma. She was helplessly addicted to everything Devlin.

I loved the way their relationship developed. From their two-week sex arrangement to her wooing of him, these two made magic happen. His open heart and her stunted one were made for each other!
He asked silent questions with his mouth: Do you want me? Not this shell that I wear, but me, the man inside? Can you care for me, hold me when I’m weak, accept the bestial part of me that wants to mark you, claim you for my own?
She answered his mouth with equal fervor and made demands in return: I want you. I want you inside my body, my blood. I want to be inside you too, so deep inside I become a part of you. I want you with a desperation that scares me. So badly I ache when we’re not together. So madly my heart splinters to see you in pain.

I must say that i am amazed by how thrilling, emotional and sensational "Dark Pleasures" is,which is the 5:th instalment in Aja James Paranormal "Pure/Dark Ones"-series that i find so awesome that my mind has become somewhat dizzy right now after finishing it.I must have stated in my other reviews by how captivating i find Aja James writing. She develops and explores in such a vivid way that it gives me goosebumbs because of the way i feel alive when i read this series. In this book the Dark One Hunter Devlin Sinclair have a mission to track down Medusa who is the cause of all chaos and destruction that has happened lately between the immortals and to find her he needs the help of the tech genius Grace Darling who literally flips his life upside down with her extraordinary nature!

Grace Elizabeth Darling is a quiet fire-cracker i actually found myself having a crush on,LOL.She is such a cyber genius that can hack into anything that is digital. As a person she is totally isolated except for her aunt who visits sometimes and the two weeks mating period she have after every couple of months and finds her current prey in the very delicious Devlin.AHH she was such a stranger to emotions that she couldn`t see that the connection she felt for Devlin was blossoming into love and i found it so bittersweet the way she calmly took on his nature and life and the way she woos him in the end.I mean...even i was crushing on her!!!

***
“I think…” Her brows scrunched slightly as she concentrated on finding the right words. “I think I’ve missed you, Devlin Sinclair.”

“Have you?” He meant to say it with smooth nonchalance in his usual devil-may-care tone, but it came out instead like a breathless, needy query filled with uncertainty. -Grace & Devlin

***

Devlin Sinclair made my heart melt puddles. He is one of the Chosen guards of the Dark One Queen and despite being a awesome genius and badass himself he can even cook food, behaves like a old-school gentleman and has wavy dark blonde hair.CAN HE BE MORE DELICIOUS THAN THAT!It makes it even better that he is head over heels in love with Grace and painfully hopes for that love in return thorughout this story.Despite his devilish charm there was so much pain and vulnerability in his soul and when we saw flashbacks into his human past in the Napoleon war my heart broke for his lonely soul who only ever wanted to be loved. Not only did i found Devlin and Grace utterly sexy together..but ahh how cute they also are! They made me melt like butter in every emotional scenes with them together especially near the end after her so romantic proposal!Just come one!!!That couldn`t have gotten any better!Loved everything about it!

I also must mention how much i am dying of tension and curiosity in every scene with the ancient and heavily tortured Tal Tel...and his heroine. His torment and longing shed tears to my eyes and i have not even read his own book yet but damn how invested i am!Then we have the Creature who i only get more intrigued by.By now i have some guesses to who he might be and his connection to Inanna and Benji.I also think Sophia is as lovely as always and how relieved i am that she doesn`t think more about the crush she had on Ere-they are friends.Huh!But i didn`t get to see Dalair in this book so i hope we get more of him in the next one!And another character i have been excited over since "Dark Desires" and that`s Ryu`s father..the ancient Master who also have his own book,YESSS how happy i am over that!Aja James has me completely under her spell again through her very dark and sexy fantasy world of Pure/Dark Ones and i only crave for more!

4,5 'adorable' stars

Review to come soon-ish. I need to get to Tal first 😄😄
Ok, I'm finally returning here for the review. But seriously, it was of the utmost importance to get to Tal first. He is THE priority. Alright, alright, I will stop obsessing over Tal now <3

I didn't much care about Devlin before. Maybe he didn't seem enough of a tortured hero for my liking. Well, how wrong I was. He had a very tragic past too but he was hiding it so well.

Grace was a wonderful heroine as well. Very different which was refreshing. I liked her bluntness and how direct she always was. And how she was wooing Devlin was simply amazing and utterly adorable.

"I'm glad you're not normal," he said, pulling her closer. "You're my kind of unique."

I don't know what else to say about this book. The truth is I pretty much flew through it so I could finally get to OUR TAL (mine and Starr's that is). Sorry, not sorry. I enjoyed it very much. I think it was the most amusing book so far. Grace really was the star of this book and it was also so funny to watch Devlin get carried around by other members of The Chosen - being only 200 years old is barely an infant in vampires eyes LOL so it's not that unusual he is often at disadvantage in a fight. Everyone around him is ancient. And speaking of ancient, I'm looking forward to learning more about Ramses. He is very alluring. I see the appeal now.
***********************************************

Devlin Sinclair, Marquess of Hartington in his human life, was the royal henchman to the New England vampire queen, Jade Cicada.

So, there were some changes. PUC and Starr found these pics. First one is human Devlin and second is his updated version ;)

James continues to weave a detailed multilevel intriguing world!

Grace by far was one of the most interesting and unique FMCs I’ve read. Asperger’s was such an unexpected twist which I was uncertain of but it completely paid off. Seeing things from Graces POV and watching her evolve pulled me further into the world.

One of my favorites has been Devlin. Although I was a bit disappointed in his initial description and his bewilderment at his attraction to Grace. His thoughts on her looks was not complimentary and as his feelings progressed he still didn’t see her as beautiful but as attractive. For me that wasn’t good enough. I feel Grace deserved more.

Secondary characters are stellar. The continued world build is extraordinary. James confidence in her characters and storyline shine through.

Looking forward to the next in this exceptional series!

Happy reading! DD💕

Dark Pleasures is my least favourite not because it's a bad book but because compared to the other books this is just average.

Reading this book made me realise how little I know about Devlin. Devlin is so sweet, his friendly nature is just an armour. Technically he is insecure and have major trust issues, after reading his backstory I get where it all came from. I'm glad he found Grace, she is great for him.

Grace Darling the love interest is a computer guru and hacker, her skills are above that of Devlin. I love her confidence, though she doesn't have conventional beauty and don't understand social conventions she is confident and isn't afraid to go after who or what she wants, in this case Devlin.

Other characters like Inana, Gabriel, Sophia, Benjamin and Talel, Inana's father were also in this. Some of the supporting characters also have POV which I loved.

The writing is straight forward and comprehensible, this book is also a fast read.

I love that the plot is still ongoing despite the different love story. The Pure and Dark Ones are still trying to find the creature behind the fight clubs, they are making good progress. Can't wait to read who Medusa really is.

Update after Rereading:

Welllllll, I loved this book even more the second time around.

The first time, I was obsessed with Grace. This time, while I obviously still loved her, I was more obsessed with Devlin. He's just such a great character. I freaking loved his reactions at the end. My heart totally melted for him!
It takes a real man to fall in love that deeply and I totally admired him for that.

Also... Enlil. That is all.

Original review:
Note: upon rereading, the first 3 books of this series DID very much do it for me.

Okay WOW! Let me start this review by saying the first 3 books of this series did not do it for me. I basically sped-read them to get to the good parts and didn't connect with much of the overall plot arc beyond how it affected the scenes with the main couple. And even those, I didn't really care about.

But me, being a desperate lover of long PNR series, wasn't ready to throw in the towel yet. I told myself to give book 4 a try and if I was as equally uninterested as the first 3, I'd finally give up.

Imagine my surprise when I was absolutely spellbound by this book! I FREAKING LOVED It! I cannot stress enough how good it was!

Grace has to be one of the most unique, multi-faceted heroines I have ever read. I loved every scene with her perspective because Aja James did such a great job of getting inside her head. I don't think I've ever heard of an author attempting a romance with an MC on the Autism spectrum - there are just so many ways it could be done poorly! - but I thought James did a beautiful job. Being on the spectrum was never looked at as being a flaw - rather it was one of the things that made Grace such a great character - and yet you really felt the development she went through to finally understand what it meant to fall in love.

And Devlin! I adored him. He was just so real. And I loved him so much for the patience and understanding he had for Grace, trying to decipher how she communicated, etc. He fell in love so hard and I respected him so much for putting his heart out there after what happened to him in the past, even while knowing that Grace might not be capable of returning his feelings.

And the sex?!? Um WHAT. Let's just say Devlin is a lucky, lucky man. Just read it and find out. ;)

One of the most unique romances I've ever read!

Ha, Grace is so funny. She has Asperger’s disorder and is a genius of anything technological. As is our hero but in a more subtle way (genius, that is).

I loved the difference between the brusque and to the point heroine and the aristocratic gentleman that the hero was born to be. He's so sweet it even aches. I loved their story and Grace's solution in the end. Isnt she simply great?

The story itself did not evolve a lot yet, but it was great nonetheless.

THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, SO FAIR WARNING, UPON READING THE REVIEW.
Dark Pleasures is the fourth installment in the Pure-Dark One’s Series and I have become so impressed with these books. I don’t know what it is about this author, but she keeps stunning me with her books and they are such fast and quick reads, I was so surprised at how fast I was breezing through this one. Even though this one wasn’t my favorite and most of that has to do with the trope that comes into play with this one here. I really don’t care for the casual sex/fling type of setup in romances, but Aja James still makes it work in some unique ways. Now the fun element of this series is that I don’t even NEED to read the blurbs because I know what is ahead will be a story that will work for me because this author’s writing is pure magic and I can’t seem to get enough. I am just trying not to splurge all at once with her books because then I will be out of books from her to read. If you are looking for a delightful mix of PNR and fantasy, then this series is your ticket….

DARK PLEASURES IS A SEXY, UNIQUE DYNAMIC THAT WILL FASCINATE YOUR MIND IN CHARMING WAYS THAT FEATURE:
Devlin Sinclair -Vampire, an alpha, young for his kind, was once part of the English Aristocracy, loves deeply, and is loyal to a fault
Grace Darling -Autistic spectrum, logical, doesn’t care for emotion, sex guru, obsessed with tech and a hacker

Dark Pleasures is a story that begins with an arrangement between Devlin and Grace, of two weeks of sex and in return, Grace will deliver to Devlin all the secrets of the clan that they are hunting that are setting secret battling clubs around the world and are attempting to destroy them. Devlin is determined to get his hands on this information and he isn’t about to complain about two weeks of hot sex with this beautiful woman who seems oblivious to the chemistry growing between them. Grace has always been logical, she doesn’t like emotional ties and doesn’t understand the concept of affection or love. She feels comfortable with her computers and tech as they are easy to understand. But when Devlin enters her life, she doesn’t comprehend these feelings she is having for him and she doesn’t really even like these feelings that are bringing the conflict to her. But while on their journey, Grace may have to come to terms with these new emotions that are drawing her into a relationship she never imagined was possible for her…

Dark Pleasures was such a different type of read than I was actually expecting. But then I am coming to expect the unexpected when it comes to Aja James. I don’t think I have ever read an author that keeps me on my toes as this one does and I do love reading this subgenre quite a bit. I will say that this book while it didn’t reach a top rating from me, I still quite enjoyed the book. I didn’t understand Grace that much and couldn’t connect with her. But I do think she is more on the autistic spectrum, I could be wrong of course, but she just seemed to fit the spectrum from what I know. And I really liked this aspect of a character so withdrawn from the emotional range of human aspects. She is almost like a child in discovering the emotion that Devlin brings out within her. In fact, her character was quite funny in the dilemma she has to face. And Devlin is so patient with her, like seriously, he has the patience of a saint and I found that is what our heroine truly needed. What she is growing into, is taking time and Devlin is willing to give that to her even when it hurts him at times. Now our hero was delicious. I really liked his depths and all the pain he has suffered. We do see some flashbacks but it’s more to see why he struggles with his past. Many of you know how much I despise flashbacks, but in this one, it was just a couple of times and it was brief, so it definitely worked for me. The romance that develops between these two is really beautiful in small ways. It’s the moments when they aren’t sure what is heading ahead for them, that create the deepest dynamics. The way that this author just pulls you so into their journey and seeing them embrace the growths in such a loveable way is such an experience.

Overall I found Dark Pleasures to be a journey of depths, mysteries, and characters that will gravitate you further into their realm of self-discovery and ability in embracing their fate….its simply a ride you won’t want to let go of …..get ready for a tumble to thrill you from head to toe….

Alright to say I struggled with this one would be a vast understatement. I started this book on Feb 10th. I just finished it today.

So let me just get out of the way what wasn't flowing with me here.

Devlin & Grace... In theory, a pairing such as theirs seems as though it can work. Surpassing the difficulties of their innate differences and growth with one another. Collectively and individually.
Sadly, it just doesn't translate organically on paper for me. Their interactions left me cold, indifferent, and at times too awkward. I just was not feeling them together... Which made their ending seem very...I don't have a word for it, but NO comes to mind.

And Devlin seems like a COMPLETELY different guy, than what I've learned of him up to this point of his story. What I mean is, there's a big difference between someone playing their cards close to their chest because of their past. They want to forget it, or suffer it alone, so they give this certain persona or representative if you will, for others to see instead. I get that and to a certain degree, I do believe this was part of Devlin's makeup, given his past. But he showed NONE of his previous personality traits in his own story. I really felt as though I was reading a new character/work up of Devlin.

Feels like he was taken back to the drawing board to fit this story surrounding him. I didn't recognize him at all. And for me that's why so much of this concerning his story just didn't flow organically for me.

I feel as though he should have been paired with someone different. The chemistry just wasn't there. Everything felt forced between them. This side of their story feels like a "Filler" to me. Something to get you to the other side of the series.

Grace, I really like her. She's uncomplicated in an oddly complicated way. She's a complete contradiction of the human condition. But I felt like she needed to be protected in a way.
Like though she's an adult, I felt her in a childlike aura, which dominated how my mind's eye saw and dealt with her.. Maybe this too is why her relationship with Devlin and what all occurs between them just didn't work for me.

What kept me reading was the developments with the other characters. Tal, IT, Benji and so on. Sadly it wasn't enough of them in this one, but they are what kept me going and why this one gets 3 stars from me.

The series as a whole is still one that I would recommend. It's so much happening here. So many awesome things that are revealed and keep you guessing at the same time. I am eager to get more involved in this world. I want to savor and pace myself, but devour it all at the same time. LOL

I hate that I couldn't walk away loving this one as much as the others so far, but that's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes..

3.75 stars 🌟I definitely enjoyed this one as more of the whole story is coming together. Devlin was just so sweet! Grace was okay but she won me over at the very end. I’m so excited to read about Tal. And I want more Sophia! I have a theory about Ere 👀

My second read to refresh my memory for the fifth book and I loved it! I especially loved our main couple - Devlin and Grace. And the way they met for the first time, that whole scene and Devlin's reaction to Grace's behaviour during that encounter - It was funny!

I have adored all our heroes so far in the series and Devlin was clearly no exception, I loved him. He was my serious, old fashioned bookworm warrior with the mask of flirtatious rake on the surface.

"He’d learned how to fight, how to shoot the heart out of any target, how to unravel the most complicated puzzles. How to kill. He learned how to flirt too because charm and friendliness opened doors and made connections better than introversion and bookishness. And he learned that being a charmer, a devil-may-care rake was a fantastic disguise that sheltered the real man inside.”

I loved how despite suffering all the betrayals in the past, he still had the courage to open his heart again so beautifully. He was definitely one of the best parts of the book for me!

Usually, I tend to like my heroes more than their heroines, but Grace quickly won me over with her awkwardness and mad hacking skills. Her reaction (or lack thereof) after learning of Devlin non-human status was funny and great.

"He seemed like a “normal” guy if extraordinarily beautiful.
Well, and there were the fangs and the bloodsucking. But nobody was perfect"

Apart from these two, I completely loved Tal! How my heart breaks for him!! He is my ultimate tortured precious hero and I honestly can say he is going to be one of the best parts of this whole series for me!!

I would also like to take a moment to appreciate Aja James's writing which is improving with her books, it was engaging as well as easy to follow. I especially love the balance she keeps between showing present and past lives of our characters, that's just perfect!

Apart from them, there are so many characters I would like to explore in future books!

This was definitely a great time to reread this one. I thoroughly enjoyed myself a lot and it also brought back so many things I need to know about in further books! Immediately picking Tal's book next!!

Full 5 Stars!

I had such a hard time reviewing Dark Pleasure even though I loved Devlin and Grace’s story like crazy. My problem was my inability to get into Grace’s complex, pure, beautiful, brilliant, unique, and 1/10,000 rare mind! She was a heroine like no other.

Reading about Grace’s life was heart wrenching. Reading about Devlin’s past was hurting my heart in a different way. Their HEA shouldn’t have worked. Yet they were perfect for each other. They were both born a sensualist. He needed to be loved. She did research to give sensual satisfaction to random men with whom she had no ability to connect. But with Devlin, for the first time she made personal connection. She finally learned to love. When they finally came together, it felt like destiny-defying moments. I loved their story beyond words.

I knew for a fact that Aja James did her research extensively for this series. That Grace’s character felt so personal was a testament to this brilliant author. Hope you pick up Pure/Dark Ones series and love every book the way I do.

I really liked this book. Devlin was a character that intrigued me in previous books so I was happy this story was focussed on him. It didn't turn out the way I thought it would at all...not that that's a bad thing. His romance with Grace (who I adore) was sweet. From the beginning it was her who had the reigns, her who initiated everything. Not that he was a doormat not at all. His backstory was well thought out and integrated, better than in the first books.

Grace...sweet, logical and in her own way innocent Grace. I adored her. She's unapologetically herself. The way she changed herself so she could spend her life with Devlin was endearing.

Loved the flashes we saw of the characters from other books. Sophia was the perfect person to open and close the book with. She's becoming more interesting to me. Ere is the Creature...that much I'm reasonably sure of. What kind of mayhem will it cause next?

I'm not really invested in the General/Tal. Can't explain why. Maybe because I was a bit annoyed by his storyline last book? I'll try to like him if only because I like Inana.

Devlin and Grace

There is so much going on in this novel. First, there is Devlin Sinclair and Grace Darling. Devlin is a Chosen Dark One and known as the Hunter. He has spent months tracking Grace's digital footprint. "He was certain she held critical information for getting to his ultimate target -- the enigmatic Medusa, who had orchestrated all of the chaos and violence the Pure and Dark Ones had been combatting for the past two years."

Grace is a single, 29 year old, who is "wanted by several government agencies for her cyber hacking skills since the age of twelve." She works from home as a Enterprise Architect for the "hottest new tech startup Zenn." She has a social disability -- Asperger's. She has three pets. A chinchilla named Miu-Miu and two goldfish named Antony and Cleopatra. Grace calls herself a sensualist.

Second, we have Inanna, Gabriel, Benji and Tal. Tal, full name Tal-Telal, is Inanna's father. They all go to Dark Dreams, the establishment owned by Estelle Martin, affectionately called Mama Bear. Tal is blind and is touching the objects -- trinkets and treasures -- on the shelves when he hears a voice from his past. Mama Bear sees Tal and runs from the room. Tal hasn't been the same since his run in with Estelle.

Third, we have Sophia St. James who is starting her internship at the MET. She is cataloguing the Persian exhibit owned by Enlil Naram-Anu. Enlil is the vampire and shadow ninja who works with Medusa building a shadow warrior force.

Though the book was Devlin and Grace's story, we are visited by many characters from previous books. Each equally important to the advancement of the series. We learn piecemeal secrets to store away for future novels. The plot is intricate and the subplots are intertwined so smoothly a cord is not out of place. This novel is the turning key for future books in the series.

Devlin & Grace.
Wow!
This one was lower on the suspense action, and I took points off for that, but it is high on the mystery. As far as the Adult Romance, it is
Explosive ,
Carnal ,
Wild and Fiery 💥‼

Grace will make you laugh and grin. She has NO social skills. She lives in her head and just blurts things out. She has Autism Spectrum Disorder. She knows what's in her head and what she wants. She has no patience for social interaction. She is also a 'Tech Genius'.

"Now that Devlin had seen her in the flesh, she would only escape him if he allowed it. The Hunter never lost his prey."

Devlin will break your heart. He meets Grace and she immediately throws him off his game. He is the 'Hunter' for the Dark Ones, but with Grace he feels more like the 'Prey'. Grace is about to eat him up.

Characters that we know show up. We are enlightened to some of the mysteries that surround them. New characters also come in to the story. Clues are given. Twist & turns that will enthrall you and keep you on the edge of insanity. Add to this poignant moments that will make your heart hurt.

An amazing story. Superbly written. Perfect flow.

I think I found one typo/editing error.

I can not get enough of this extraordinary series. Now I have to get book #5, 'Pure Rapture'.

Can’t put these books down!

Another amazing book and I’m excited about the next one. The ending was awesome and heartbreaking! At one point I was smiling from ear to ear, and the next holding my breath hoping everything works out. These characters are amazing! Grace had me laughing a lot of the time. Must read series for anyone looking for new books!

*************************************************************

Realized this one was to short to and I’m just going to review this one along my re-reading journey! Another amazing story in the series! Have yet to read one of them I could put down!

Devlin Sinclair is an awesome warrior in my opinion. The fact that in their world he is still considered a baby and doesn’t let that stop him! Just love it. He is super smart and loves anything that screams intellectual! A computer whiz to add on top of that, and has a great sense of humor! What’s not to love about the guy?! He did unknowingly meet a horrible woman, and deal with a lot of damaging family drama, but this gentleman is still a one in a million!

Grace Darling had me laughing so hard at times! I love the fact she says what she wants with no regrets! Has a routine and follows it, knows what she wants, and boy does she go for it! And I love that she is beyond the computer whiz of Devlin! When I picture her I just sit here and think of the hackers movie, and still in my mind she would give them a far run for their money! Or more than likely blow them out of the water!

This series is so hard to put into words I find it that amazing. Not enough stars ⭐️⭐️. This world is amazing and it’s awesome to read it! Aja James paints a beautiful picture in every book! And I can’t wait to re-read the next!

Happy reading! 🖤🖤

I am loving this series. It is not often that I get blown away by an author's ability to draw me into connecting with characters. With each book I read, I get more immersed in this world, more in love with the characters, and I never want to leave! I need to slow down, I'm going through these too quickly, and I can't seem to help myself....lol! Kudos, Ms James, I am now an avid follower of your work.

RTC!!

*Full Review*

It's always those nights when you decide to start a random romance that you've had in the TBR pile so long that you forgot you had it that you end staying up way too past your bedtime.

And you know when you finish a romance and you're like, yeah I'm going to need 10 more books with these exact same characters?

That's how I feel about Grace Darling and Devlin Sinclair.

This is like. A wonderful mash-up of Regency hero and modern heroine. Not only that but vampires! Like, this is the mash-up I didn't know I needed but YES!! From the beginning, sparks flew. Devlin has impersonated a hacker that has been chatting with hacker Grace Darling in order to see if he can ask for her assistance in taking down Zenn, the organization that she works for, and has connections with the mysterious Medusa.

I'm going to be honest that I'm still not sure what is going on with Zenn, Medusa or all the other characters. Not because it was confusing so much as I loved the MCs to the point of ignoring everything else. I noticed I did this too for Jade and Seth's book (Pure Ecstasy) where I was fine with some of the subplots but was most invested in the MCs.

I love Grace Darling and I love Devlin Sinclair and I love them together! Grace is a female hacker with Asperger's and she is incredible - I love how straightforward she is in certain situations. She was unintentionally hilarious about her sexual needs (how her staring and silence was interpreted by Devlin as a big fail on his part to charm her but was actually her deep interest in him), but also so full of yearning towards the end. I loved how those words, a human and a vampire cannot be together, could be interpreted so many different ways :')

Another reason I think I loved Grace and Devlin is the angst is similar to Jade and Seth where the females are all about the sex and the males are like, ok but what about love :( The heroes have so much vulnerability and longing it's so good.

I also love how Aja James plays with past lives and reincarnation. All of the stories I've read in this series have past lives that are significant in the lessons they must learn this lifetime.

There are about 13 novels in this series and while I haven't devoured all of them, Dark Pleasures and Pure Ecstasy are top favs!

💝 FREE on Amazon today (11/29/2018)!💝

Blurb:
Devlin Sinclair, the New England Dark Ones’ Hunter, is on a mission to track down the elusive and mysterious Medusa, perhaps the ultimate nemesis the Pure and Dark Ones have been battling in recent years.

But he can’t do it alone.

Grace Darling has isolated herself from the world since a very young age, after her parents’ death and because of her own social disability. Awkward and brilliant, a born sensualist, Grace agrees to a blind date that changes the course of Destiny.
She has the skills he needs.

Their chemistry is off the charts, but will she, can she, give him the love he craves?

Without a doubt my absolute favourite!!! 💖💖💖💖💖

dark-pleasures-by-aja-james-henry-cavill-scholarlysabrina
This book was written for me. Devlin Sinclair*, Marquess of Hartington, was made for me. Thank you, Aja James, for this precious gift. Everything was just... *chef’s kiss*

I was glued to the book from the beginning, no force on earth could have wrestled my attention away.

Honestly when I saw that the 4th book was about Devlin, I was sorely disappointed. I wanted to read about Tal! (He’s still in this book though phew, more on that later.)

I eased into it anyway thinking well I guess it would be fun to see this fascinating flirt brought to his knees by Grace. I’m like, yep, I knew it. I knew he’d be paired with a formidable match, someone immune to his charms.

I love it when the hero is so confounded by the heroine that he’s rendered speechless, losing control of the situation by degrees. And I also loved that he wasn’t immediately attracted to her. I LOL’d so hard at his decidedly unromantic study of her profile:

...her eyebrows prodigiously thick and expansive, nearly meeting together in the center. Her eyes were an unremarkable brown but framed by sooty, long, extravagant lashes that spread around them like spider’s legs, or perhaps a centipede’s.

In contrast, her notes on Devlin:

Face: classic, sapphire, bumpy nose, thick lashes. Form: tall, hairless, lean, muscled, angular. Sound: deep, husky, rich, soothing. Smell: clean, crisp, minty, male. Taste: salty, spicy, chocolatey—

And he was plotting ways to inveigle an invitation, oblivious to her single-minded determination.

“Is this the Grace Darling version of shucking shoes upon entry?”

This powerful Hunter wound up as the prey, dragged back to the lair of an unarmed human. I laughed so hard!

Then we find out he’s a Marquess and I’m like omgomg he’s a devil-may-care rake come to fuel my historical romance obsessions!

I had settled for a reformed rake, but what I got was even better! The more I got to know him, the more I loved him. I love when a charmer only has the calculated façade to achieve his means but is really just a cinnamon roll inside. His dry humour, his modesty. And the Marquess killed me – a polyglot erudite with an eidetic memory. Like do you know that you look like? And you want to add scholarly to the mix of reasons I cannot survive?? And with your valiant, righteous, love-hungry heart! Have mercy! You could have just been bookish and that would have been enough for me, you know.

Devlin is so soft-hearted; I don’t know how he could have gone without love. Another mom that deserves my wrath. And that ludicrous Lavinia. Yet he didn’t turn hard, bitter, or vengeful. Wonderful man. Do you want me? Not this shell that I wear, but me, the man inside? Can you care for me, hold me when I’m weak…

Grace has Asperger’s, I adore this representation so much! I loved her analytical mind. A man flashes his fangs at her and she just thinks, fascinating. Nothing can faze her, not even if all she had was a plotted plant. And it was so cute whenever she felt jealous. I’m grateful that she took down notes because it gave us the scene where he had to confirm his privacy while reading said notes.

This time, I got to travel back to Hyde Park. And to imagine being in the mansion at Hyde Park Corner on Piccadilly! Yet another cancelled plan, wanderlust sated by these books. And guess who’s adding Apsley House, the London townhouse of the Dukes of Wellington, to her future itinerary?

The plot for this really stood out for me because it was such a believable historical romance plot 💕

If there weren’t enough good things about the book, it featured letter correspondence, a sure-fire way to make me weak in the knees. So romantic!! We need more women courting men!

Devlin’s story sends a strong message of hope. If you haven’t found The One, don’t despair. It took him 200+ years, but his soulmate finally found him and look at them, happily ever after 😍

Others:

Each time we see Tal in this book it’s devastating, I probably cried harder for Tal than the MCs (though Grace crying is a close second). I really can’t wait to read his book!

It was nice to see proud Papa Ryu. Ugh too many wonderful heroes, how exactly am I supposed to divide my attention? (said she to no one, frantically, unhinged)

You know I didn’t even notice that Sophia wasn’t around in the 3rd book, but she’s growing on me.

*Golden-honey waves of hair streaked with sunlight, perfectly symmetrical and evenly spaced features, dark blonde brows arching elegantly over heavily lashed bright blue eyes, the type of blue that sapphires envied. A blade of a nose that drew attention to sculpted cheek bones and the fundamentally masculine hollows beneath, a wide, full mouth that looked like it smiled a lot, bracketed by faint grooves that hinted at dimples. That’s him right!

Now I am officially hooked on this series and I am really happy I stayed with the series/author. This is by far my favorite book. The book focused on the main characters and their story with only minimal secondary characters/other events happening, which worked wonders for me and my brain.

4.5 "I'm Not Normal" Stars

So ya'll know I love this series. Like Love, Love! Like I'm obsessed with this series...

The characters are well written, the story is extremely thought thru & fleshed out, & the plot flows well from book to book. Ya'll, I cannot brag on this author enough.

I really liked the Hero Devlin. I loved his back story. I understood him & felt his vulnerability. The side stories were a treat. There was a couple of of Twist that were a nice treat. Lots & lots of Great For Me...

My ONLY issue was I didn't feel connected to the Heroine. She has Autism Spectrum Disorder. I can emphasize with her, but I have a hard time connecting to her. I did feel her struggle with her disorder & how it impacted not only her but everyone around her. Where as she didn't "feel emotions" or or connected to people I have the opposite problem. I feel TOO MUCH & connect deeply to people. But that is TOTALLY MY ISSUE. Grace was still a great character & I feel like the author did her justice regarding her disorder.

I really liked how these characters balanced each other very well. Each was what the other needed. She needed to feel & he needed to be felt. That was beautiful! The ending for them was perfect!

I graciously received an ARC of this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
