For fans of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries comes a new addiction impossible to put down.

She's in love with her best friend. A family grudge could tear them apart. And a supernatural secret could get them killed…
Robyn can't picture life without her childhood best friend Jayden. And now that they’re in high school in the sleepy town of Shadow Hills, she’s hoping they can take their friendship to the next level. But when their parents suddenly forbid them from seeing each other because of a centuries-old family quarrel, the few blocks between them might as well be worlds apart. She also can't help but wonder if the flirty new girl in their neighborhood with her sights set on Jayden has put another nail in the coffin.

While her parents keep her under lock and key, they let her older brother roam free late into the night… even after a local girl is found murdered. Between her brother’s nighttime excursions and her parents’ odd behavior, Robyn starts to worry that the killer may be living under her own roof. When danger lurks around every corner, Robyn must decide if she’s willing to risk her family and her life for a chance at true love.

Flesh and Blood is the first novel in The Vampires of Shadow Hills YA paranormal romance series. If you like star-crossed chemistry, headstrong heroines, and riveting family drama, then you’ll love Willow Rose’s heart-throbbing series.

Flesh and Blood by Willow Rose is the start of a YA vampire series. Robyn’s parents always favor her older brother, and the favoritism has been getting worse as her brother is about to go away to college. She just wants to be able to spend time with her best friend Jayden, but her mom is threatening to take her out of her school if they are caught hanging out together again. Soon, her older brother Adrian starts to display some strange behaviors, and people start to get hurt around the town. Robyn’s parents don’t see anything wrong with what Adrian is doing, but Robyn knows something is wrong, and she is determined to get to the bottom of it with Jayden’s help.

I was really looking forward to a good YA vampire novel, like the ones from the early 2000s, but this one was just disappointing. For starters, these characters acted far below their ages. I had to constantly remind myself that Robyn was supposed to be 16 years old, most of the time she read like she was 13 or even maybe younger than that. She wasn’t even smart about half of the stuff she does! At one point, even though her mother had told her not to have Jayden around, she had him sneak into her room? That’s like….literally the easiest way to get caught. There were so many things they could have done to avoid getting caught together, but it’s like they didn’t even know how to do basic things. If you can’t text the person, use a messaging app on your computer or something. If your mom only sends you to school and home, you could just meet up secretly at school. So many opportunities wasted, and I was just shocked that they couldn’t think of a single good idea of how to meet up. And their little “arguments” made me so mad, like they bickered like 8-year-olds in the middle of an important investigation that involved both of their brothers. It was honestly just so funny that I couldn’t take the story seriously.

Getting back to the brothers, I couldn’t understand the parents at all. They want to keep their daughter locked up, but they literally don’t care about the other kid getting hurt, caught, or possibly doing something to hurt someone else. I will get more in-depth with this in my review of book 2, but I couldn’t skip over how ridiculous the situation was. If their parents really had a secret to hide, why wouldn’t they hide one kid and then not even take precautions for the other. That’s putting a lot of trust in the other kid, which doesn’t make sense given how off the kid had been acting most of the time in the book.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this book. I am halfway through book 2 as I am writing this review, so I am going to finish the trilogy, and my opinion hasn’t improved any. Definitely skip this trilogy!

Teenagers with toothy parents in suburbia

Teenagers lead interesting lives as their parents destroy friendships, bicker, and act strange. There are murders and attacks, always after midnight in the neighborhood. What is going on? Ends on a huge cliffhanger. Fun read.

Robyn has a feeling that something is different in her neighborhood. Her mom is as intimidating as ever and her dad seems more complacent and doesn’t want to rock the boat too much. On top of that her brother turns 18 and does a complete 180 in the looks and attitude department. She’s been warned to stay away from her best friend of over 10 years Jayden and she is adrift. When a new girl moves into their town she makes a friend but also she’s competition. Together despite parental warnings they come together to try to solve the mystery of her town only to find out her parents are key players in the mystery.

Let me explain why I gave this story 3.5 Stars. At times it felt very very immature. They didn’t have conversations like 16 year old kids In fact they sounded a lot like my 8 year old. The story was all over the place. I don’t know why we had to hear a million times for Robyn to stay away from that boy I got it by the 3rd time they said it. The vampires sizzled when they are mad. Her brother suddenly turned emo and goth and well that seemed like a vampire cliché to me.

I also think where are other supernaturals involved as well. It had such good potential with a story of teenagers solving a mystery. These kids could have been extraordinary but all in all it was just an ok read for me. I hope book two is a little better and solves some much needed questions.

"The Scary Nights"

This is a spellbinding paranormal story well written and geared to be enjoyed by young adults, and will be enjoyed by adults who enjoy this genre. How can one not trust their family? As Robyn listens to the constant arguing of her parents, she feels they are ruining her life. She's been forbidden to hang around with her boyfriend. Soon, a new girl in town begins to flirt with the boyfriend ... the parents couldn't care less about it. Soon a local girl is found murdered. There are strange sightings at night of a man wandering about. Can it be Robyn's brother who has broken his curfew? This story will raise your heartbeat. It's full of terror so don't read at night or you'll be peeking out your window looking for a wandering man. Highly recommend.

The writing style confused me a little, wasn’t sure who’s POV it was and had to go back a few pages a couple of times. Also it wasn’t really made clear until half way through the book how old the mc was.

I did however enjoy the story, it’s obviously a little community of secrets and I can’t wait to find out what they all are hiding... surely they can’t all be vampires ? Due to the fights with the next door neighbour I’m thinking maybe a werewolf family too?

Strange things are happening in affluent Shadow Hills, and the teens are beginning to notice! First there is the trouble with the Jones and Smith families, lifelong friends, embroiled in a bitter unexplained feud for the past few months, which they try to force on their children, best friends, Robyn and Jayden. Ever helpful sidekick, Amy, tries to keep everyone together. The new girl to the neighborhood, Jasmine, that they all try to make welcome. Then come the disappearances and murders of schoolmates, secret meetings at the local haunted house by a group of parents. What's a normal teenager to do? Investigate of course! Pick up your copy of Flesh and Blood for some answers. There are many things lurking in Shadow Hills!

I purchased this eBook after enjoying Willow Rose’s other Vampire story “In Cold Blood”. This one reads much more as a YA paranormal adventure. The plot flows nicely and simply follows the lives of a group of teenagers and their families who are living in a “keeping up with the neighbours” type of community with lots of secrets. The thoughts and feelings of the characters are relatable as they try to figure out what is happening so it makes it an enjoyable read.

Vampires and I'm sending werewolves as well

So many unanswered questions! I'm incredibly glad the next book will be out shortly. I'm picking up a hint of werewolves going on with Jayden and even Melanie. Can't wait to see if I'm right.

I will start with what I liked about the book.

The story in general is interesting. The book starts with a murder then goes back 10 months to when the neighborhood teens meet the new girl on the block so right away it catches your attention. We do not know what species each family is but there is enough context and clues to make a guess on most of them. The suspense and mystery throughout the book are also particularly good, I read this book in 3 days, and it usually takes me a lot longer to read a book even though this is truly short.

Now to what I did not like about this book.

The main character, Robyn, is annoying af. She is beyond a normal teenager with her dramatic, victim personality. I will say I hated most of her POV chapters which is about 75% of the book. Also, THIS BOOK ENDS IN A CLIFFHANGER. I mean there are zero answers, there are 2 murders and 2 attempted murders during the book and none of them we find out who is responsible. We also do not even know what species they are except for one family and that is because it is extremely obvious. The series could have been combined into one book. I will not continue reading.

Lastly, I would like to add that I did not like some of the things the author wrote. She wrote a few chapters in the POV of Jazmine who is black, however, she was very stereotypical with the character and irrelevant to the story. Also, I hated the part the author included about the vampires stating they take illegal immigrants to feed from because “nobody ever misses them.”

I enjoyed reading this paranormal mystery. The characters were fun, the mystery was intriguing and the murders were fun. However, as this is the first in a series, not a lot is resolved by the end of the book. I would have preferred a more complete story.

Usually I start off with the things I didn't like, just to clear the bad out of the way first. Not saying this was a bad read, but I'll get there eventually. The first thing I need to make known to any questioning reader is, its mostly told in 1st person point of view, but what I hadn't expected was the occasional 3rd person point of view, which I do think fit together nicely.

It was a page turner alright. Maybe because the chapters were short? It moved at a fast enough pace that I wasn't in any danger of wanting to claw my eyes out over long, drawn out descriptions. I also like a good paranormal mystery, so this was right up my alley. I also wont deny the book cover art is amazing! The book also started out great that it had me hooked and I ended up reading this in 2 days.

Now for what it lacked, the things I wasn't crazy about. Paper thin characters. They needed more depth. I don't think I was able to truly connect with any of them yet. The mystery behind what killed that girl also went unsolved, so that might make a person feel kind of cheated? Also, I thought the usage of some adverbs were unnecessary.

Some dialog felt unrealistic. It was sort of like reading a first draft in some parts. But my only pet peeve was usage of the word 'heck'. I guess I am just one of those people who doesn't care too much about how I speak but that would go way off topic.

I don't fully grasp why seeing the word a few times annoyed me. Probably because it was used a bit too much. At least saying the word 'hell' can't be too bad a thing, even if this is a young adult book. I also think there are ways around using the word 'Heck'. Why not simply change "Oh hi sis. What the heck are you doing out here?" to "Oh hi sis. What are you doing here?" It gives me the impression that the author was trying to squeeze as many words in possible to meet a deadline.

All in all, not a bad book. I'm still interested to see what happens next. Even though I think the story is someone geared closer towards a pre-teen age. It can't hurt to continue reading.

Robyn’s parents are fighting with themselves and the neighbors. They have forbidden her from spending any time with her boyfriend and are just making her life difficult. Then her brother starts breaking the curfew without getting into trouble and does a 180 in behavior and looks. If that was not enough for Robyn to question her parents, maybe the midnight meetings and over coverage in the sun is. Then local girls are turning up murdered. There is something odd happening in the little town of Shadow Hills.

This story is a good YA paranormal story. Robyn is fed up with her parent, especially when she is not allowed around her boyfriend and a new girl in town is sniffing around him. Of course you have the mystery of who is killing the girls and who is next. But I loved the vampire and potential other paranormal creatures in this little town where everyone knows everyone else and all about their business.

I love Willow Rose’s books but I’m sad to say that I have not had the opportunity to review one in a while. I grew up in a little town and this is exactly some of the stuff that I remember and not necessarily in a good way. You can tell that this story is geared to YA, not all of the conversations flow as well and I admit that I did have some issues of who was narrating because of how the story jumped around.

Beyond that I really enjoyed Flesh & Blood. I can’t wait to dig into Blood & Fire.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

I had received this book from a Goodreads Giveaway.

This book was a fast paced novel. I had devoured it within hours (I sat in one spot for a couple of hours and immediately wanted to dig into the next novel).

This is not the typical paranormal mystery romance that we are all familiar with. Yes it is evident that the families in this neighborhood are clearly not human, except for our protagonist, Robyn and her three friends: Jayden (her best friend), Amy (the stress baker) and Jazmine (the new girl on the block). However you don't find out much about these paranormal families. You receive glimpses or clues to determine that something is just off about them. Enough to hook you and beg for more!!

But just like first books, this one is setting up the series. It starts off with the odd things, like Robyn's brother is acting out of the normal and dead people are ending up in the lake. But are the two connected? The answer is sadly not in this first one, but it adds so much to the suspense!!! There are also a forbidden best friend relationship that you just root for but obviously the sugar coated relationship would do this series an injustice, so throw in the new girl in this mix and the plot thickens! And of course over bearing parents who are the crazy health kind. But who are they really fooling?

I could go on forever. But spoilers are no fun.Go read the book!!!!

If you are looking for a fast pace, lose yourself in the moment, paranormal romance lover, this book is for you!! I highly recommend this hidden gem.

The blurb reads:
"Flesh and Blood is the first book in a fun and frightening series of romantic paranormal mysteries. If you like terrifying thrills, flesh and blood characters, and vampires without the sparkle, then you’ll love Willow Rose’s tale of suburban terror.
Buy Flesh and Blood to discover a dynamic series that puts the bite back into vampire lore today."

In this I think the book fails. There is not terror and so far the "bite" is more of a nibble. This is very short and make no mistake, it is a YA novel. For that I give it a little bit of a pass on the whole teenage angst thing. Although the title mentions Vampires I think we will find many supernatural characters in Shadow Hills. I'm looking forward to finding out. For this one, the book was almost over before the story actually acknowledged there were vampires although the signs were there. We don't have any background on how they came to be or what their characteristics are and I felt that some of that should have already come out. I also had a problem with the ending. It wasn't so much a cliff hanger as we reached the end of the chapter and there wasn't any more. There should be a better way to lead in to the next book in the series rather than just stopping in the middle of the story. Absolutely nothing was wrapped up, it just ended. I will read the next two since I bought a boxed set but we'll see if I continue after that. Stay tuned.

Willow Rose wrote the first book in the series The Vampires of Shadow Hills in a way that left me wanting more. Wanting to find out more about Jayden, Robyn, the rest of the teenagers, and their families. Written for YA, but I am comfortable allowing my twin tweens to sink their claws (or fangs in this case) into this book, nay, novella. I would deem this more novella due to how short it is; easily read in an hour for me.

While I feel the story-line did jump around a lot from places, timeline, and even first to third person, it is chalked full of murders, disappearances, mystery, secrets, and the paranormal. Kept me entertained until the end where I felt it was cut too short. Love the cover art and can't wait to continue reading and reviewing my way through the series I received as part of this book tour!

The cover was so beautiful i was itching to get my hands on this book but unfortunately the story wasn't as great.

The story follows Robyn and her love interest and two other girlfriends as they discover a murder and a attempted murder, discovering in the process a secret about her family.

I felt the characters needed to be a touch younger as they did not act like 16 - 18 year olds, more like 10.....

The POV was all over the place we had it from the victims from the characters, i couldn't get a grasp where and who i was meant to be reading, the Author doesn't label the chapter as such.

The characters were one dimensional, and profess love to each other at the drop of a hat, it just all seemed a bit juvenile, the romance was a bit stupid as it made no sense really maybe if the author left that out and made this a book for children it would have been better.

There is a neighbourhood where the teenagers interact and there are tensions between the parents
Robyn has a crush on Jayden. Annie is a friend. There is a creepy house.

Jasmine moves to the neighbourhood. She finds the place creepy, the neighbours scary and the changes in her mom unsettling.

It appears that the older brothers are turning 18 and have started erratic behaviour. The parents actively dislike each other.

After a short while it looks like this may be like the HULU show Runaways where the kids are good , have good intentions and have creepy parents

However the depth was simply not there. Characters were not relatable and interesting. The thrill was not brought out. The ending was horrible

To a reader like me , it just read like it was a vampire werewolf book that wasn't well written. I cant really see this being a long running series as it seems like very few people might go on to read the

A great YA paranormal story for any age

Willow Rose has jumped off into a new series (The Vampires of Shadow Hills) in a spectacular fashion. While a teen book it should hold the attention of all paranormal fans. Robyn is part of a vampire family living in a neighborhood of all kinds of paranormals and trying to figure out why her mom hates her boyfriend's family. Plenty of mystery and soul searching for Robyn and her friends. My only complaint is that the POV of the characters is not clear from chapter to chapter and leaves the reader wondering which character is speaking...could have been an easy solution simply by titling each chapter with that characters name. Give it a try anyway because this book is worth it.

Wow, this was a really good book. If you like audiobooks, dont hesitate to get this one. It's short but sweet. I liked the suspense as to what each family on the block were. Imagine a little community neighborhood that is made up of supernaturals. I think I would like to live there. But this neighborhood is a little strange. They dont much like outsiders seems like. Now imagine you have no clue your mom is a supernatural. This is what Robyn discovers. I didnt like her mom. She was so controlling and always shoving veggie smoothies down her. The book does end on a slight cliffhanger. But the next one picks right up. And this author is always having her books listed as free. She is so generous.

Review: slight spoilers.
Yes, I enjoyed it. Was i overjoyed to be reading it? Nah, not really.
First the bad: so stinkin slow. So predictable. Very rated G. No real action. I described it to my sister as Stepford Wives with vampires. At least I think ita vampires. Everyone keeps talking about seeing a wolf. I don't know for sure. The most frustrating thing for me was the constant change from 3rd person point of view to first person. Pick one!
The good: easy to read. No real obvious grammatical errors. Characters are pretty diverse.
Overall, this is a book about kind of a cookie cutter suburb with dueling soccer moms that are obviously some kind of supernatural creatures and yet their children have no idea...okay so that's a bit hard to grasp.

Good YA story

I received this book free from one of the book sites. I do not remember which one! This is my honest review.
I don't care how old you are, this is a good book.
Strange things are happening in Shadow Hills. Best friends turning on each other, people sneaking out of their homes at night and people entering "abandoned houses...and that's the adults!
Follow 3 teens as they try to understand what's going on in their neighborhood & their own homes!
This is not a stand alone book, but the beginning of a new series. This author is amazingly versatile across genres & age groups.

This book has a GREAT plot and the writing is good BUT it ends in a cliffhanger so if you don't like cliffhangers, this is NOT the book for you!!! I don't like cliffhangers unless I know there is definitely going to be another book out soon that will continue the story.

I found this book to be interesting in the relationship between Robyn, her mother, and her brother. (Warning: brother is very clearly the favored child). There were some scary parts in this book and some parts weren't explained too well but, on the whole, it was an enjoyable read while I'm stuck in my apartment during this Coronavirus epidemic.

flesh and blood

Audio & book review

A lot of times the POV was confusing and it took a beat to realise who was “speaking”. This was a quick read/listen and is the start of the vampires of shadow hills series.

Think of this as twilight’s little sister, we have teenage angst, love triangles and vampires- and I’m sure there will be more supernatural beings coming in the next books. This is a very YA series and at times I forgot the characters ages - they seemed younger than 16 years, but then at times I remember what I was like at 16 lol.

Looking forward to delving further into this series.

Ummm...what was this?? It was s mess. It felt like it was written by a middle schooler. I’ve never seen a book jump from first person to third person whenever it was convenient. It was so strange. I seriously feel like I wasted my $1. And the timeline; I never knew how much time had passed between events. She talks about her brother’s hair growing long and losing all of his muscle mass....that takes weeks to months, but by the end of the book, only a month has gone by. The “romance” was so forced that it was painful to read through.
