From the diary of a dishwasher to the grind of an exotic dancer, For Here or to Go is an astonishing eyewitness account of America's new service economy.
This was cool. I could've handled a little less of the fiction and more of the interviews and personal essays due to the nature of the books subject. When you're covering the drudgery and degrading nature of service work a fictional story can be a bit too "wrapped up" and unrealistic for the theme. There was definitely room for fiction and it was good stuff, but would've worked better if there were less pages dedicated to it. But overall it was a pretty good read. There's never enough being written about labor or the service industry, this is overall a pretty good representation of it's voiceless.
I found the short stories in this book pretty dull and disappointing for the most part. Maybe you just had to be there to appreciate the authors' stories.
